Best sushi in auburn!! Love all of the different rolls and they are always so friendly and kind!

So happy we found this spot. We ate there Tuesday and liked it so much we went back Friday. We look forward to eating here often.

3rd time is not the charm. Rude service. 1st time was when I asked to sub spicy tuna with spicy crab (this was never a problem before) & was told "we don't do that never have". Um 1st that's a lie & 2nd really? You can't sub an item? 2nd time I went a week later & got the steak and spicy crab roll, it had a literal inch thick of masago across the WHOLE roll. It was nasty. 3rd time was today. I ordered two rolls over the phone and was told it was $27. For TWO ROLLS! Embarrassing to admit this but I didn't have enough. I asked to only get the Manhattan (since my husband has been craving it & it's his favorite roll but they've been closed for a MONTH) and they said no your steak crab roll is ready you need to pay for that. I'll add rudely & no way to help a customer out. I guess being closed a month made them stingy. I'm sure they'll be glad but they defined lost my business. read more

Service is awful. On multiple occassions we've been forgotten before we even got our drinks. When it happened on our anniversary, we vowed never to patronize Take Maru again. The sushi is so-so; the unoriginal sushi you can expect from an establishment so far from the coast. The fish is frozen and tasteless, so they make up for its lack of flavor by deep-frying or over-saucing their more expensive rolls to try to justify the price. If this place is looking like your best option, then just skip sushi tonight. read more

We have enjoyed our food there twice, but service is sub-par. Both times they have forgotten items we have ordered. They seldom return to ask for refreshed beverages or if you like the food. You have to get up to ask the girls for help, and they are always standing chatting by the kitchen pickup. Management: great food - service staff needs to step up the plate! No atmosphere, no variety, no alcohol, and got the feeling I was in the middle of a game of "playing restaurant." I can't believe I hadn't been here until I moved down the street from the restaurant. Lunch here is probably the best value for the $ in Auburn if you like sushi at all... Not bad for a sushi place away from the coast. We took my mother here as her first trip to try out sushi. Tea was good, as was the miso soup. The cucumber salad was a bit different than other sushi places, but still very good. If you're ordering vegetable tempura, they seem to have a very limited choice in vegetables, only receiving onion, broccoli, and sweet potato. Sadly, no carrots. The inari wasn't too bad, though it lacked some flavor. Usually the inari that I'm used to has more sweetness to it. This one didn't have much flavor, though was still okay. My boyfriend ordered the spider roll and thought it was great. Service isn't the best as it took awhile for us to be greeted and seated. I do think the server was shy, which is why things may have seemed slow, but she was very nice and knowledgeable. I would come back, but am open to trying out other local sushi places. read more

Good quality sushi, with a lot of variety of rolls (more American-style). The lunch special is great and well worth it. My favorite roll is the Lobster King roll, often served as a special. It's always a tad bit quiet and reserved inside. Service is a bit awkward but when I'm there I like to get down to business and eat. For Auburn, a place not in the coast, it's a cut above! read more

After reading plenty of reviews, we knew not expect fantastic service (it was so-so) so this review is simply about the food. If you like a variety of sushi and love getting lost in choosing what you want, this is definitely the place to go, they have EVERYTHING and their menu is organized pretty well. (Tempura rolls are listed together, rolls with eel are listed together, baked rolls etc etc) The first thing I always watch for is a fish smell and there was NONE so we knew we were good to go. We ordered the Snow White roll, the rainbow roll, the dragon roll, tobiko sushi, Ika? rings (calamari) and tempura veggies. I was SO happy to see they had a tobiko roll as you can't always find this option everywhere (it's the little red flying fish eggs wrapped up like a sushi roll). Everything was fresh and delicious and presented very nicely. I would have liked more veggies with the tempura veggies, there were two potato slices an onion ring and a piece of broccoli, so not much. Also, don't get the hot tea, it's just not the tasty green tea you can get elsewhere, it was just some cheap tea bags thrown in a pretty kettle. Otherwise everything was great! read more

My wife and I went to dinner there on Saturday. It was one off the nicer dining experiences in a while. We started with edamame, which was spicy-robust, and the agedashi tofu, that was cut it smaller pieces, crispy and spot on. We both had the sashimi dinner. The miso soup was really good and the salad came out with the right amount of a nice ginger based dressing. The fish was great and the uni was fresh and sweet. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Looking forward to going back. read more

This was so good. I had spicy beef lunch box my other had Japanese fried chicken and we shared a volcano roll. Came with yummilicous miso potstickers great salad shumi (lil dumplings). The volcano roll crab and creamcheese with spectacular sauce. The people here are so nice new to the area so stop by say hi and give them support they deserve it. read more

Been here twice and the fish has been Very fresh! Super friendly service! The second time we ordered to go and there was a lot wrong with order but we think it was the language barrier over the phone. They did rectify it by giving us a free roll our next visit! They were also ready to hip in there car and deliver the right order. I told then it wasn't necessary but I really thought that was nice! We come to this restaurant at least once a week. It's by far the best in Auburn...and surprisingly an awesome sushi restaurant for our neck of the woods. They know how to make sushi...warm and well seasoned rice, fresh fish, and beautifully made and decorated. Everything we have had has been very tasty and delicious. My favorite, which I order consistently every time, is the Alaska hand roll and the Hamachi hand roll...just one of each and I'm good! read more

We recently moved to Grass Valley from Sacramento. We love sushi and had a few favorite places in Sacramento. I was a bit nervous about sushi "up in the hills" but have been pleasantly surprised. We first tried a place in Old Town Auburn and it was pretty good. We didn't want to drive as far for sushi the second time so we went to Take Maru. I wasn't expecting much from a sushi place in a strip mall but we loved it! The decor is very nice to start with. As soon as we walked in the door, we forgot we were in a strip mall. We ordered the yellowtail jalapeno cold appetizer and a special scallop and cilantro appetizer. We also ordered salmon nigiri and the Doobeedoo roll. Everything was delicious! All of the sushi tasted fresh and tender. The service was excellent and the prices were reasonable. We prefered the food, atmosphere and service at Take Maru over the place in Old Town Auburn. Wow...I've been coming to them for the past 2-months to get their Sushi Bar lunch. I'm hooked. Best place to go to for your sushi fix. I drive down from Lincoln Way all the way to Grass Valley Hwy to get my fix too! It's that good!!! Usually get the Ebi Tempura Roll with a Spider Roll. Meal comes with Meso soup and small salad. Great price at just $8.95. Service is alway's served with a smile too!!! Next time your in North Auburn look them up, you'll be happy you did. read more

I have been eating here since they opened over two years ago and I LOVE IT!! The food is wonderful and the service is great. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the waiter, Jason is always pleasant. If you have kids or non-sushi eaters order the Udon Noodles, they are excellent. I love all of their rolls, but my most favorite is the Manhattan. Also, it's priced right and conveniently located right on highway 49. read more
