My wife picked this out of several choices while on vacation. It was a great decision! The sushi was fresh and delicious. I went with a meatball soup that was outstanding! The portions are of generous size. We bookmarked this restaurant as a definite "must return!" The tables for two are a little closer together than I prefer, so it's not the type of restaurant you go to for a quiet, private conversation - at least not at peak hours, but it's private enough. My "go to" sushi place. Quality sushi at reasonable price, and also travels well for my pandemic carry out orders. I have not eaten in the restaurant in the past year, but I have seen that they have spaced their seating and are very clean. I have been going here for years and have consistently received friendly service and wonderful sushi. I always recommend Takohachi when people move to or visit the Arlington area. I try to call for pick-up as opposed to ordering through other services so they don't have to pay fees. Occasionally I will have to call more than once to place an order, but I think that's just because they are clearly in demand in the area ;) read more

Great value for good sushi. $1 nigiri all day long is a nice way to go for an inexpensive sushi lunch. It's a fairly standard selection of fish, but they do get some nice specials. I love that I can almost always get good uní, hamachi harasu, and hotate. Lately ankimo has been available as an appetizer. My go-to casual sushi spot. Because of Takohachi, sushi has become part of my regular diet. I have been several times already, and sometimes twice a week. It's conveniently located in between my workplace and home, so I can easily go for lunch or pick up after work - before it gets busy. I just can't get enough of their $1 nigiri sushi - which is at all times and includes the entire menu. Aji! (horse mackerel), uni! (sea urchin), hotate! (sea scallop), and yellowtail belly are often at market prices elsewhere. The quality of the unagi (barbecued sea eel) is also amazing - melts in your mouth, with a not-too-sweet glaze. This place is like crack to me and I'm addicted. I'm glad it's so busy for dinner that they run out of some types of fish every night, because that keeps the fish fresh. The tip is to go for lunch, when it's quiet, quick, the sushi cuts are full size, and they are fully stocked (except for the elusive flounder, which they never have). I always get a small plate on the side, often from the izakaya-like specials menu or the cutesy handwritten signs posted everywhere. It's fun to try a new one each time. Otherwise, my stand-by is the vegetable tempura appetizer. Oh, and the hot green tea is free if you ask for it. I don't normally order dessert, but they have an inventive selection of specials at any given time that is not too sweet. My favorite surprise was the mascarpone mousse with jelly, especially when they had passion fruit available to top it off. I'm tempted to try the potato tempura with green tea ice cream (!) next. Takohachi is a Japanese mom-and-pop restaurant that is actually run by Japanese people, a rarity in the DC area. And now that I've finished this write-up, I'm craving sushi again. Delicious $1 nigiri all day! The value for the money here is insane, and the sushi would be delicious even at a much higher price point. Presentation and taste are just on point. Rolls are excellent, too. Sitting at the bar is especially fun - the chefs are personable and clearly proud of their craft. Haven't tried anything besides the sushi and miso soup, but I'm sure I'll eventually try some of their other dishes. Came here because of the close proximity to home and the $1 all day nigiri. We ordered 18 pieces of nigiri, age dashi tofu, and a bottle of sake to start. The $1 nigiri was such a good deal that we wanted to sample before ordering a bunch. The first batch of sushi was decent enough. The second batch was okay. The uni in the first batch tasted a lot fresher than the second one. Overall, the quality was just ok. I suppose for the price you can't complain too much. You get what you pay for. I was so excited to see a sushi place open back up in my neighborhood, and this place did not disappoint! They have an extensive $1 nigiri menu and the food is excellent quality. We had tempura, which was light, crispy, and flavorful. The miso soup was excellent, and the sushi is excellent quality and they don't skimp on the portions. So many $1 sushi places tend to slice the fish paper thin and/or make the rice to fish ratio huge so you fill up on rice. Not here! The sushi is perfectly proportioned. The nigiri menu has a wide variety, including 3 types of roe and quail egg. They had only been open about a week when we were there, so they are still working out a few kinks like any new restaurant, but they were not so bad as to ding them a star. For example, the timing of food coming out of the kitchen needs to be improved (eg; my friend got his food much earlier than I did), and the table they sat us at wobbled horribly (likely assembled wrong), but we moved to new table that was fine. However, service was friendly and very good at refilling water and tea. This could very likely end up being a regular place for me. I can't wait to go back! read more

It does not get better than $1 nigiri. I usually get the salmon, eel and yellowtail and all taste fresh and good. There are many sushi options though for any palette. They also offer cheap appetizers like beef skewers. I would stick to their sushi, we had ramen and a bento here and they were mediocre. read more

I with my family including 2 young kids went here for lunch today. And the owner asked us to leave the restaurant because they said my kids were too loud for the restaurant ( which there were not at all) and even if they were bit noisy they should not have discriminated us and tell us to get out. What do they expect from kids. We didn't even start our food, they didn't even give us utensils and she just asked us to pay the bill and leave. I would not suggest this restaurant to anyone who have kids. They should put a signage outside that kids are not allowed. There was only 1 server for whole restaurant and they just couldn't manage it. I have never ever seen this kind of service and discrimination in any restaurant. read more

Very good sushi rolls! The menu has very good variety to choose from! They also have a a special menu with simple and cheaper rolls! All are delicious! It's great that they even have a $1.00 Nigiri menu! Pretty neat! I've checked out the desert menu and seems pretty good, although I haven't yet tasted it. Maybe next time I will! I have experienced dining inn and takeout and both are great. I highly recommend this restaurant. They have a good staff and the chefs are very fast. All the sushi items we ordered were good. Both nigiri and rolls, the fish tasted fresh and I was really happy with it. Also ordered the vegetable tempura and fried shumai. I would probably prefer the normal steamed shumai going forward but my husband loved it. We did also order the curry tonkatsu ramen. We didn't end up eating any of it. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either. I am used to eating really frickin good ramen so I guess you could consider me a ramen snob. I will return for the sushi but definitely not the ramen. I used to like this place but after what happened yesterday, I won't go back. The manager is horrible to say the least. I complained about paying for what I didn't order. Stopped by for lunch and ordered the Sashimi Lunch Box priced at a modest ~$12, and it comes with a miso soup, salad, 1 mini shumai (dumpling), a couple of pieces of lightly fried tempura w/sauce, seaweed salad, rice, and of course, the sashimi - 3 pcs of tuna, 2 pcs of salmon, and 2 pcs of yellow tail. The GOOD: The quality and freshness of the fish was very good. If they keep this part of their restaurant up and consistent, Takohachi will be alright. The shrimp tempura was also perfectly battered and fried. hot, fresh, and not too oily and heavy. The [not so] GOOD: Though the quality of the sashimi was exceptional, the size was not -- smaller than expected. Everything else about the lunch box was average at best. The salad dressing could be improved. As part of the fried tempura spread, a random red bell pepper slides into the picture. A bit out of place if you ask me. Soda is non-refillable (probably better this way for my health but not so good for the business). Service was a bit under average. The waitress was polite but could have been more present especially since it was slower (1-2 other small tables). I will be back to give their $1 nigiri deal a shot. What a pleasant surprise! This place just opened up about 10 min away from us and we have been wanting to try it out! We decided to test out their fish by doing the 1$ nigiri. We have eaten a lot of sushi, both coasts, internationally, and all over DC and Va. Their fish is incredibly fresh, some of the best ive had! We were really impressed! What a great new find (this review is based on takeout dinner and dine-in lunch). Sashimi, spicy tuna roll, rainbow rolls on par with other restaurants...very good. Dine-in lunch was fantastic. Bento boxes are an amazing deal. Soup, salad, shrimp and veg tempura, and the entree. Ginger pork was awesome; but the Cali roll and sashimi box was perfect. Plenty of food. I come here all the time when I want sushi. The $1 nigiri is of courseee the way to go because you can't get a better deal. And it's not like they're itty bitty pieces either, I usually get full off 12-15 pieces, some people I know order up to 20. You can always buy more later if you want. I always go for white tuna, salmon belly, and yellowtail belly. Sometimes I get the uni or eel if I'm feeling adventurous but you can definitely tell it's not the best quality. You absolutely HAVE to get the fresh wasabi though (if you like it). Just put a lil dollop on each piece of fish; it's much better than the horseradish imitation. Also recommend the takoyaki and beef skewers!!! So good. It's never crowded here but the sushi can take a bit of time to make if you order a lot. read more
