This is my third trip now to Takosushi. The last two times weren't memorable in any way and I couldn't form a review upon leaving. It wasn't bad by any means, it just wasn't anything to write home about. I had the same experience today but the service was so slow at lunch, we ended up being there for about two hours. I'm not sure I would ever be able to recommend this place to anyone and not so sure I'll be returning. That being said, the firecracker shrimp had pretty good flavor. They messed up and brought an extra order of the same shrimp and ended up letting us enjoy that one as well, so that was nice. One of the previous times I was here, I did enjoy the tempura asparagus but that's not enough to bring me back unfortunately. read more

First of all don't judge me, What was I thinking, I placed the following for me and my man. Dan's 49, Crazy Roll, Crazy Susan, Spicy Salmon and a Smoked Salmon sushi. Yes I did it and added a smoked salmon quesadilla as well as extra chop chop (CC)with every roll. Greedy I know,But I was willing to put the time into the gym and pay for it ( in more ways than one)coming in just shy of a cool hundred, it was worth every penny!!! I ate for 2-3 days enjoying every delicious bite. The dan's 49 which comes with it's own salty, sweet , toothy bite of (CC) was amazing. Will I be back, of course!!!! Initial impressions - trendy place with eclectic crowd - sashimi was sliced quite thickly and tuna and salmon were very good - ummm... escolar as part of chefs choice is problematic for some (I won't get into the, ahem, explosive reasons as to why here) - complimentary cucumber salad with bento box was refreshing though soy dressing just sat at the bottom of the bowl missing its opportunity to shine - asparagus tempura while interesting felt a little heavy on the grease; breading issue? - rainbow roll was average plus - sushi rice was average plus Overall: I get why this place is popular. Good food and hipster fusion vibe. Portion size is healthy. While I prefer more traditional sushi joints, this is certainly an option that won't disappoint - as long as you have realistic expectations. I'll probably be back and give the southwestern side of the menu a try. I love to order multiple appetizers like the tempura asparagus (always a must), ahi poke, ika salad (they have THE BEST), and crazy caprese salad (who knew mozzarella with tuna would be so good). Get the wasabi vinaigrette on the side and put it on anything you get, it's so good! read more

Meh. I've experience better, FOR LESS! I went to Takosushi pretty excited to only leave with a mediocre feeling. The parking lot was extremely packed because of the surrounding restaurants, but keep in mind this place is very tiny. This is not the best example of sushi because it could be better. The sushi is just not very fresh and not very good quality. The sushi lack creativity, lack of flavor, lack of sushi skills. I did like the soft-shelled crab roll. It was they only one that was good. Also I expected to see Tako on the menu, since it is in the name, no such luck. Octopus is a popular sushi item it is sold under the Japanese name tako. Maybe they are named after the Tako hiki, a Japanese knife used to prepare sashimi, or Tako, the Swahili word for "Buttock." I think the Swahili version fits the best seeing as it was a pain int the buttock to get in with the jammed parking lot, a pain to sit in with the crowded table arrangements and a pain in the buttock to eat my warm sushi. So, let me preface this review by saying that I am not from here. I just moved here from Houston about 3 days ago. I didnt know anything about Augusta prior to moving here so I needed lots of suggestions. Several people mentioned this place as a great place for sushi. So, I decided to try this place out today for lunch after looking at townhomes to rent. I sat at the sushi bar and decided on the Flaca to drink, which is basically a skinny Margarita. Being from Texas, I've had my fair share of margaritas. I didnt know margaritas could be screwed up this bad. It tasted awful. I didnt want to be rude or waste alcohol so I choked it down. Now, the way I judge sushi restaurants is by ordering sashimi because that's the way you know the fish is fresh and then you know the rolls will be good to order. So, I'm looking over the menu and notice that tilapia is all over the menu. Ummm... seriously? Is this a joke?I have never in my life seen tilapia on a sushi menu. There have been articles where restaurants have traded the low quality tilapia in for other fish and passed it on for other fish, but this place was just calling it like it is. This was a new one for me. I texted all my friends back home and they couldn't believe it. I was a little worried, but I pressed on. I decided to order the sashimi sampler, but instead of the tilapia, I got the hamachi, which of course incurred an upcharge. I'm totally fine with that. I get my meal and notice that there's no Wasabi or ginger on the plate. Is that the norm around here? Do they not serve all sushi automatically with Wasabi and ginger? Another first for me. Very weird. Good thing I was at the sushi bar because I was able to get some quickly. And LOTS of it. I eat the hamachi first... annndd I bite into a small bone. Yuck!! I get the bone out and eat the rest. It's okay. Not the best. The rest of the fish: tuna, salmon, and escolar are fine. I couldn't bring myself to eat any more of the hamachi because I didn't want to bite into another bone. And that's what I paid extra for. Oh well. I had finished my drink a while back and nobody asked me if I needed another. I piled my things on my plate and the 2 pieces of hamachi were not addressed, which is fine. I didnt want any confrontation. So, the service was a little lax in my experience. All in all, I don't think I will be going back to takosushi. It's just not worth it to me. I'm not sure if this is just the quality I am to expect of the restaurants around here and I need to get used to it, but dammit... sigh. The queso with chorizo is delicious, best in town. The enchiladas were okay- I'm used to authentic Tex-mex where there is filling inside the enchilada besides just chicken. Absolutely LOVE this restaurant! Definitely one of my favorite in Augusta. I recommend starting off with the tempura asparagus - i could eat the asparagus for days. Cary's roll & the super krunchy are also two of my absolute favorite rolls! the teriyaki sauce is delectable. There are some downsides - 1) although the location of the restaurant is perfect (in surrey center), i feel like they could definitely expand due to the popularity of the restaurant. the other day i was literally sitting arm to arm with a complete stranger in their back booth because of the lack of space. nonetheless, takosushi only gets crowded during the typical times (such as dinner on a friday night), so try getting here for an early or late dinner if you don't want to sit in such a congested area! there's always the option of sitting outside, which is nice, but it's been raining nonstop in augusta lately so you might not want to risk getting rained on :) 2) the rolls are definitely pricey - about $10 for one roll, which comes with about 6-8 pieces of sushi (so you're paying $1.25-$1.60 per sushi). the other day, my boyfriend and i ordered two rolls of sushi along with the tempura asparagus and the total came out to about $35 with tax. that isn't too expensive for dinner, but considering that we only had about 3 asparagus each & 8 pieces of sushi, it was definitely more than if i bought sushi at kroger. that being said, this ISN'T kroger quality sushi, so i guess you get what you pay for! :) 3) the service is questionable. i feel as if the waitresses and hosts that i always get here (which has been A LOT since i frequently visit this restaurant!) are always courteous and well-mannered but are never friendly and open. that being said, i recommend that you come by here if you ever visit augusta! the picture that i posted is the cary's roll, which is perfect in every way possible. read more

Takosushi was my first restaurant experience in Augusta. Not sure how representative of Augusta it is, but it's nice to know there's a hopping Asian-Mexican fusion place in the area. The menu didn't seems so much like fusion items as it was sushi and Mexican items listed together. The place was surprisingly crowded for a rainy Tues night. It was loud too, so in a group of 6 people, we had to shout and repeat a lot. The service/price/food were all ok. Nothing nearly as catchy as the name of the place. read more

Do not recommend at all. Not sure if they changed their practices or not but when I was there a few years ago, some fish were put in metal kitchen containers. I remember the tuna was soggy since the metal containers were sitting on top of ice instead of in the sushi showcase. I complained to the head chef at the time because that was unhealthy and unsanitary. He said not to worry about it... Look the other way. Also, they didn't pay me for working 2 days. read more

The atmosphere was welcoming for the most part but the spot was a lot smaller then I had imaged so if course there was a slight wait. About 25 min for 3 people on a Friday night. Not bad. We wanted to sit inside so the greeter took my name and said she would call us when ready. After sitting in the car for 15 min we walked back up so we wouldn't miss our name and ended up waiting around outside. As soon as we sat down, OUTSIDE, they gave us menus. I was kind of irritated about that but I was still excited to try the food. The waiter was friendly but did not give us refills until we were about done eating and as it started to drizzle outside no one came to offer us an inside spot. Another turn off. I would actually rate this restaurant a 2.5 instead of a 2. They have a decent selection of rolls....all good portions and flavorful. But I question the success of their "asian-mexican fusion" when it seems they only got half of their fusion right. My boyfriend and I also ordered flank steak fajitas and they were disgusting. The steak had no flavor and was SOOO tough and chewy that we couldn't eat it. It was also over-cooked when we asked for medium rare. The beans and rice also were very bland. It seemed to me that only their apps had some kind of fusion of cuisines...other than that, all the main entrees were either one or the other. This is one of my favorite date night spots! Its a small place but they have indoor and outdoor seating. The service is always speedy. I love: queso dip with chorizo, dynamite roll, fire cracker roll, shrimp tempura roll, the list is endless. I've never tried any of their southwestern entrees because I've always been lured in by their vast sushi menu.. Its the one place in Augusta that has good sushi! Can't wait to go back. read more

Takosushi has been on my bucket list for years. It just always seems when we come to Augusta that we have other events going on. After being at the National all day, we drove over to Takosushi for a quick late lunch before heading back to the ATL. It took awhile to decide on mexican vs. sushi, but I settled on mexican since it had just turned rainy and cold. I really wanted to order an a la carte taco or enchilada, or even get 2 different enchiladas, but was turned down. Huge bummer, as I wasn't that hungry and I knew I wouldn't take home leftovers, and I hate ordering more food than you really need. I got green chile pork enchiladas and they were just meh. I really took issue with the lack of flavor (described as "incredibly spicy" by our waitress) and how bone dry they were. It just really turned me off and I didn't come close to finishing my food, which at almost $16/plate was ridiculous. The folks that got sushi seemed to enjoy it, and for that reason alone, I will leave this at 2 stars. The service here just seemed off too. I didn't feel welcomed - I felt more like a burden on the waitress. I overheard staff yelling at one another, and that's never good to see as a patron. It just started off the whole experience poorly. I also inferred that there were no a la carte options so that you had to pay at your yingyang for a massive plate of food. HORRIBLE FOOD! RUDE MANAGER! This place was once the best place for sushi! I use to always get the crazy Susan , Jessie's roll & the beef brisket nachos. Last night was our first night eating here in several months. We ordered take out. I ordered the crazy Susan, Jessie's roll, pyramid roll, & the brisket nachos. I was livid when my husband brought home the take out! The Jessie's roll was stale & rotten fish. I could not even eat a single piece. The crazy Susan roll was over battered & over fried. It tasted more like fair food... NOT sushi! The pyramid roll was not what the website described. I got some garlic smelly disgusting asparagus crap instead. It was too late for them to remake anything so the manager said to come back the next day. My husband brought home two crazy Susan's this time & one brisket nacho. We both started laughing. The rolls were over battered , over fried & falling apart in the box. I kid you not , the rolls were hard as rocks. The brisket was NOT what we have ordered the past 10 times we have ordered it before. It had orange pieces of mush in it, big chunks of very spicy chili stuff & red chunks in it. We called up there & the manager was rude and argued with us... Said that's how it comes, some nights it's different. Ummm ok? Some nights it's made differently? I've never heard of that one before.... I guess they need to specify that on their menu! Sigh.. We ended up giving our food to the dog. This makes two nights in a row that I have went to bed hungry. Takosushi was the choice for a Tuesday evening dinner with two of my close friends. I arrived a couple minutes before my friends and after a warm welcome from the hostess, I went ahead and requested a table for 3. The restaurant itself is not very big but luckily a table of 4 had just left and the hostess began preparing that table for us. We were seated and our server Meredith came over right away. She brought us waters and answered our many questions about the drink menu, giving her perspective on the martinis we asked about. After several minutes of indecisiveness, we each ordered a martini - one was the cucumber-based martini, another was (I think it's called) the Miki Tini, and I got the key lime-based martini. I wish I could remember the exact names of each because they were all very different from each other but delicious in their own way. Mine was like key lime pie in a glass without being overly sweet or overly sour... YUM! We also started with a bowl of the green chili queso dip while we poured over the multiple pages of sushi rolls. The generous serving of warm queso came with plenty of chips and a side of salsa. I ordered a volcano roll while both of my friends got the crazy roll. In the few we waited, we continued to nosh on the queso, Meredith checked to make sure we were good and also filled our waters. The sushi came out fairly quickly and I could tell it was very fresh fish. The volcano roll was perfection - Tuna tartare, cucumber, fresh tuna, avocado, takosushi sauce & teriyaki glaze. I did trade a piece of my volcano roll to my friend to be able to try the crazy roll. The Crazy Roll (Shrimp tempura & cucumber, topped w/ fresh shrimp, crab, avocado, teriyaki glaze & takosushi sauce) was the perfection combination of crunchy and savory. We chatted for awhile as we enjoyed our meal. Despite how busy they were, we never felt rushed or ignored during the meal. It was very nice that Meredith was able to split the queso three ways so that we each had our own check. In addition to the sushi, she was definitely a highlight. read more

My wife and I met each other here for lunch. We split the smoked salmon and goat cheese quesadilla. I'm not much of a fan for sushi but loved this blend of mexican and sushi. We started with a cup of the edamamae and love those things. The blends of cheese and the salmon fused nicely and I ate all of my half. Staff was very attentive. Wish they would place nutritional information on the menu (calories, etc.). Service was very quick, the place filled fast and we were one of the first ones in for lunch. For some reason I hadn't heard about this place. It's in a nice area but it's quite a small restaurant. We didn't have to wait long for a table because it was just the two of us. Plus the tent as still out in the front post masters week. I would say there are about 10-15 tables for two, which can of course be combined. There's also a sushi bar with seating. The concept of the restaurant is weird for me. I assumed it would be a fusion of sushi and Mexican food. Nope. There's some sushi (actually a good variety) and then some Mexican food. There's also oysters. I don't know what's going on with all this. Anyways, the food- I had a pretty basic roll (Japanese bagel- which was just like a philly roll). It was pretty good, nothing amazing. The hubby got the taco burger which he really enjoyed. It looked quite large to me and he was stuffed when he finished it. All in all, it's a decent restaurant. My husband and I just moved to GA about a month ago, we eat out for many meals as we continue to wait for our belongings to arrive. We are very disappointed with the lack of good food in this area, but we are so lucky to have found Takosushi within days of arriving. I would say that we eat here close to twice a week (extreme, I know!) My husband loves their salads and claims their shrimp are the best he has ever had! I love the triple tango roll... pretty much all their sushi is great! The Wasabi Vinaigrette is bomb- on a salad or roll, and the chips and queso are killer. We haven't had much from their South West menu, but looking around at other tables while we eat, both East and West options seem equally enjoyed. The service has always been great; Sydney is a sushi master with great customer service, and the buff Asian guy (I don't know his name) is on it! Takosushi also offers a military discount, which is pretty much the icing on the cake. We personally think the atmosphere, service, sound track, and quality of food are better at the Augusta location, and it would be nice to have one closer to Ft. Gordon. read more

Went to the location at Surey Center. GREAT choice of sushi, very reasonable prices. I highly recommend the fatboy roll & triple tango rolls. If u go with another person u should do the Sushi and Sashimi platter for two. GREAT SASHIMI and u get to add two other rolls on top of that. All for only 39.99! My first time going to this place was today, I ordered one sushi roll and it took 35 minutes to come out. There were a total of three tables occupied. My sister got her food out after 35 minutes but mine came out wrong. The waitress proceeds to tell me that I'll have to wait for another. The food never came out.. she apologized about 10 more times. I told her to just take the order off of my bill. The manager never came out to apologize. She passed our table about three or four times. Very dissatisfied I would not recommend. read more
