Great, with that understanding, there are no pictures on this post. I took my dad to dinner on Veterans' Day and we both enjoyed the Firecracker Shrimp, I also got the cucumber salad. The shrimp was served hot and was delicious. The flavor was a perfect contrast of spicy and tangy. My dad and I were very pleased with our meal. The service was also great! Surprised the wife, by bringing her lunch However, while eating the sushi, there was a live bug between the ginger and wasabi . We stopped, called them and they said I could bring it in and they would refund what I paid. The manager seemed apologetic and offered to remake the order - thanks - but no thanks. The concept of this place is intriguing. Mexican and Japanese cuisine served together. Refreshingly good is the best way I can describe this restaurant. I was surprised with a visit here today. Never heard of this restaurant until a Facebook post. I am glad I paid attention to the post. The sushi is the real deal. Off the lunch menu, I order the Triple Tango Roll which consists of salmon, seared tuna, avocado, cucumber, and more. It was delicious. The wait staff is amazing. They constantly check in with you and clear the table frequently. The only negative thing is it's not that spacious. It's not a true issue unless you're trying to dine and it's full so you must wait. Did a curbside pick up order. Normally I'd wear shoes but today I was in a hurry so I didn't throw on shoes and just drove there 20 minutes. I get there and they said oh we're busy so hold on. I was out on hold and looked at the time, 25 minutes had gone by... nobody ever came back. Thank goodness I didn't pay ahead to save time. Fourth time to Takosushi...seemingly becoming a go to place for me in the area. We always get the fried asparagus. It is panko battered, fried, and served with a sweet soy based dipping sauce and some of what I call Yum-Yum sauce. I had a Crunchy Shrimp Roll and two pieces of Yellowtail and Salmon sushi. All in all pretty good. The service has always been great. When the weather is good, they have outdoor seating. I like Takosushi. This restaurant reminds me of New York restaurants mainly because it's fairly small. However, the intimate atmosphere is cool. I've visited Takosushi so many times. I've dined in and ordered take-out. Each time, I'm pleased. On my most recent visit, I sat at the sushi bar for the first time. Mainly because there was a good number of customers dining. It was also a bit chilly that day and it was a good seat if you didn't want to feel the draft from front door. We had a great waitress. My friend was indecisive about what she wanted to order and the waitress did a good job of explaining all the options. I ended up ordered The Folley Roll, which was a special. I also ordered Miso soup, vegetable spring roll and a cocktail. I enjoyed everything. This is a great spot in the Summer. You can sit outside. I absolutely love outdoor seating. Also, the parking is good in the evening. This is because all of the surrounding shops have closed. I'll be back. One of the best places to get sushi in Augusta. read more

Takosushi had very visually appealing sushi that lacked quality. While it may make for good photos, my appetite was not satisfied and neither was my wallet. My visit makes me question the credibility of the local "best of" ranking system. - Small restaurant in a cozy shopping center - Fairly fast service - Rolls had either too much sauce or no flavor at all - Check out my pictures! I ordered the Cucumber salad ($2.75) that came with (guess?) cucumbers! They were also kind enough to put some crab stick & sprouts with Ponzu bitter at end. It was crunchy and a good inexpensive appetizer. The rolls I ordered really confused me as some were delicious, others very bland. Luck of the draw? My wife and I started with the Jesse's Roll ($11.95) which was very flavor packed and melted in my mouth. The best sushi is the kind that can almost disintegrate as it sits on your tongue because it's so fresh. We went on to try the Japanese bagel ($5.95) that came with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and scallions. It was good, just not anything special. I wish we wouldn't have ordered the Triple Tango Roll ($10.95). It was dry and ribbery. Not a good sign of quality! I had really high hopes for this roll. It came with shrimp, crab, avocado & cucumber. It was topped with spicy seared tuna, white tuna, salmon and teriyaki drizzle. The Crazy Susan Roll ($10.95) was next but it arrive slathered in mayo. It was almost inedible. It had shrimp tempura, fresh shrimp, crab, cucumber & avocado in a soy wrap. It was flash-fried, topped with teriyaki Glaze & Takosushi sauce. After that we tried the Shrimp Tempura Roll w/ Soy Paper ($7.95) but it really didn't have that much shrimp. I've never experienced that before. Gulp. Overall this place was too hit or miss. The spicy slaw on the fish tacos was delicious, but they're not kidding when they say spicy. The Chile relleno was good, but when compared to all of the other flavorful dishes, it was my least favorite. While the Tempura Asparagus and Queso are really good, the Southwest Tuna Tartare is a MUST ORDER for spicy tuna fans. I've never had a bad roll there, but my go-tos are the Hot Mama roll (try it NOT fried!), the Volcano roll, the Unforgettable roll, and the cucumber salad roll. The Crazy Roll is a great roll for sushi beginners! Don't forget to try their housemade ice creams! They're usually pretty good and occasionally inventive. On recommendation from a friend, I came here, as I love sushi, and he raves about it here as his favorite sushi place.. That being said, I had a helluva time finding the place. It is small, and in a strip mall. I passed it 6 times before I found it hidden (to me i guess) on the second level of the shopping areas.. Trendy atmosphere, and the place was packed. The staff was super friendly, and all the customers appeared to be having a good time. I started w/ the Miso soup and cucumber salad. The Miso was very good w/ lots of Tofu and scallions as I like. The salad was good, but the "sprouts" were actually shredded beets. Ruined the salad for me, as I do not like beets. You can order without, just need to tell them. Lots of cucumbers, very little crab in comparison. Next round was the Yellow-Tail and Salmon Sashimi. The fish was excellent and well proportioned for the money. Great flavor. Then I asked e waiter what he recommended. It was the Tataki Tango. I had the junior portion, as I wanted to leave room for other things. His recommendation was spot on. The flavor of the seared / spiced fish, the ponzu and cucumber was wonderful. Once again beware the beets, as they used them between the cucumbers and seaweed.. After that I tried the Fried Green Tomato roll which had a great flavor with shrimp on top of the roll and jalapeño / cream cheese inside w/ the tomato. Really good. I finished it off w/ the Dan's 49 roll which had their version of crab and shrimp salad and jalapeno's. Tasty, but way too much mayo in the "chop chop" sauce. Since I was being treated by a family of the faint of heart to raw fish (they ordered mostly) , Takosushi is the perfect place for anyone to experience eating "sushi-style" foods... lots of cooked seafood... I'm quite impressed with the variety of sushi rolls with cooked meats offered! The flash frying and tempura is just so perfect for the south! My group went overboard for me on cooked fish, tempura and flash frying. The SPACE is small (so we were warned of our party of 7 that we only had 1 1/2 hour to eat, but nearing 9... the place wasn't standing room anymore.) No problem... I can't imagine squeezing any party of 8 or more... but I'm sure they must make-do!... oh, there's always the Sushi bar if room is available, that's always fun! SAKE - I've learned during my 13 year travels in Japan, that drinking good chilled sake is the way to go... the idea is that the warmth of your mouth brings out the flavor of the sake, and if one were to heat their sake, then this heats off most of the flavor... just a difference of preference. We came right after lunch on a Wednesday, there was no wait or crowd. We were greeted promptly and the service was incredibly speedy and professional. I ordered the crazy roll and veggie egg roll app. Both very flavorful and fresh! (Be warned the egg roll only came with 2 pc.) my bf got the chorizo quesadilla with beans and guacamole salad. I've been hearing about this place for a few months now by friends saying it's a great sushi place with a nice asian fusion twist. Overall this place is good. My server was very friendly and helpful, he was constantly checking on me to see if I needed anything or to take empty plates away. The food came out fairly quick and tasted great. I had the cheese dip with chorizo and chips which was amazing! I also had the pajama roll, biggest loser roll, and rainbow roll. I highly recommend the biggest loser roll. I be had better sushi but this place serves pretty decent and fresh sushi. My only complaint would be the over priced hot green tea (most asian restaurants serve free or low priced hot tea). This location isn't very big for 10+ ppl groups or parties. The lighting is dim and the ambiance is pretty casual. I would like to come back and try one of their fusion dishes. read more

The food here is sub par and overpriced for the quality. They should learn from their fellow fine dining restaurants in the center... as in not just the high prices. They'd do better shrinking their menu significantly and give higher quality ingredients. Their sushi is far from fresh and the sushi chefs that are in the dining room could stand to learn some manners. Cussing loudly and being rude to others while in a small dining space is just not the environment I recommend in the slightest. The one good aspect is the servers are always great! Atmosphere: Can't say much here. Since it was Masters week, they had a tent with tables in the front where we decided to eat. Inside is fairly small and tables were close to each other. Had better at authentic Japanese restaurants that was similarly priced. 3) Potstickers: Were a little on the hard side. Sauce was good enough to compensate for the chewiness. 4) Shrimp Shumai: Was also a little on the hard side. May have been cooked by Chef Mic. 5) Firecracker White Fish: Below averaged taste. Nothing special. Just deep fried battered white fish covered with some type of fusion sweet sauce. Summary: I'm from Atlanta and have been to many international restaurants. Went here due to some good reviews but i would say this place is average at best. Price was high for the quality of food. This is supposed to be a fusion restaurant but I didn't see much fusion of Japanese and Mexican in one dish. Japanese and Mexican dishes/appetizers were separate items in the menu. The menu has a wide assortment from guac and chips to a fancy sushi roll. the one thing you must must order it s TEMPURA ASPARAGUS. This is so delicious. I cannot talk about it enough. It's literally so good!!!!! Our server was super nice and attentive, came back at the right amount of time to check in on us, remove plates, and refill waters. Overall the quality of the food was good, even though some of the items were on the pricier end, but I don't mind paying more for higher quality and this place did! Look, I don't want to sound like one of those CA sushi snobs but, well, yea, I am one of those CA sushi snobs. And while I really wanted to love a place that puts Godzilla on its menu I have to rate it fairly based on what I ate. And what I ate was definitely A-OK but nothing more than that. For one thing, my sushi was warm-ish. Definitely not the proper temp, which should be very cool. Everything I got - from the individual nigiri pieces right on up to the rolls - were closer to room temp. And when it comes to fish that ain't so good. Now, I will say the pieces of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and everything used in the roll tasted fresh and had the right mouthfeel, so this wasn't a case of poor quality fish. But the temp thing kinda soured my experience. Even the sushi salad I got came out a bit warm. Basically everything I had was really tasty but the warmth of the fish killed it. Maybe this is a refrigeration issue? I dunno. Great staff and very kind prices, though. So they've got that going for them, which is nice. read more
