We had a FABULOUS time here and Peter was AMAZING! The whole place was a vibe. The Blue Sake and the purple haze sake is off the menu but highly recommend. We got the House Sushi and added Uni, Smoked Salmon, Toro, and Spicy Scallop and the quality was fantastic. The fish was very fresh and they came in generous portions. I love this place. It's right on the corner, so I pick up sushi every few weeks. We've eaten in a couple of times, too. Service is always friendly and attentive, and their menu is quite reasonable, especially for sushi. We'd go there more often, since it's so close and so good, if they had more Asian shrimp dishes for my partner (who feels as affectionate about shrimp as I do about salmon sushi). I really love their sushi, especially the salmon skin rolls. Not every sushi place has these wonderful things - and at Taku, they fry the salmon skin so it's crispy and crunchy - delicious! SO YUMMY! No wait, tons of seating. Went here with a friend of mine and got dumplings, seaweed salad, and two rolls. Got the shrimp tempura and assorted fish rolls, which I thought were amazing, loved the spicy mayo as well! Both rolls were presented very elegantly and were so delicious. Didn't break my wallet either, only spent about $20 each for some high quality sushi!! The boats looked so fun and I will definitely be back to try one of those. I don't ever write reviews, but I have to I'm this place. I've been fortunate to eat at many of the best sushi places in big cities, but Taku has some of the most creative and delicious sushi I've had the pleasure of trying. 2 things stood out to me: (1) I always ask what's good / fresh when I walk into a place. It drives me crazy when I hear things like "Oh it's all good." I've been into Taku 4 times now and the sushi chefs have steered me in different directions each time. They take the time / effort to actually think about that. (2) I'm a big fan of Uni, and they have some of the most creative uses I've ever seen. I typically order it with quail egg, but I make it a point to order their "Uni town" every time (toro, scallop, Uni, and caviar). It may be the single most decadent and delicious thing I've ever had. They've got all the basics down (good cure on saba, very generous portions). The rolls are creative and tasty if you're into that side of things - definitely not the same old, same old. Do yourself a favor and don't order the "safe stuff" you could just as soon find in a supermarket. The sake menu is okay - good selections but limited. Kitchen is fine for things like katsu / udon, but this is a sushi place first and foremost. This place is legit. Do everyone a service, keep their place packed and in business. It's a real diamond despite what you'd expect based on unassuming location / storefront. read more

Recently gave this place a try as our normal sushi spot increased prices beyond what we were willing to pay. We have only done takeout so far but we are really impressed with the quality! We had actually given up eating the eel at our last place because the quality was so bad every time we ordered it. The eel here is delicious and tastes fresh. We also love their "Sandwich" specialty roll. They are very friendly with reasonable prices so we will definitely be back for in person dining! They do a lunch time bento box special that I am really excited to try. Pro tip if you are trying to save money, calling in your order seems to be cheaper than placing online. Prices are higher online and there is a fee. We've ordered on the phone and it's very easy. Definitely recommend giving this place a try! read more

Very happy and friendly service. The fish quality was outstanding and my only complaint is that it took a while for take out in an otherwise empty restaurant in the afternoon. I couldn't tell how many sushi chefs there were from sitting at the bar, but there was one large family at a table and that may have been why we had to wait. We ordered a smoked salmon Philly roll and the sashimi Naruto (which has cucumber in lieu of seaweed). Both delicious. They have BOGO hot sake for happy hour and that was enough for my husband and I to enjoy ourselves and watch sports on TV while we waited. We will be back. 100% read more

Only reason I placed four stars and not five - they have 3 tvs that are all set to YouTube or something like images of Asian cities. Maybe get cable? I would give five stars. I know that sounds obnoxious, but the food is great, my companions are fun, but we end up looking at our phones for score updates etc. we end up at varsity inn across the parking lot after we get our fill of fish! Have only been once, but this is a very solid sushi place. Got a mixture of "cheap" rolls (tuna, spicy tuna, yellow-tail) and one specialty roll. Everything was exactly what you want/need/expect out of this kind of sushi place. Four stars is not because they did anything wrong, just because this place isn't in that top echelon of sushi places like Sushi Den, Uchi, Matsuhisa, Makizushico., etc. For what it is, I think Taku is perfect. Caveat: I didn't try any nigiri or sashimi, which is often where sushi places separate themselves. But, again, this place to me strikes me as more of a rolls place than a omakase-type place. May give it a try in the future and, if I'm proved wrong, update my review. read more

I read good reviews from Yelp so went there to get Chirashi to go requesting only salmon and yellowtail with additional charge. They didn't check the order and I ended up with salmon only. I decided to give them another chance and ordered the same thing. Waitress was kind enough to waive the extra charge this time. However, both salmon and yellowtail are from left over pieces, all small and thin. Maybe they don't feel the need to have good presentation with regular pieces like the ones dined in. One of the worst sushi I have ever had. This is a new sushi restaurant close to me and I was hoping for Taku Sushi to be good. We ordered a lot of different items in order to try many different things. The biggest problem was that the sushi rice was mushy in all 7 rolls we ordered. The spicy tuna was mushy also which lead to gross roll. The miso soup was good and flavorful but even the Tacuyaki was cold in the center. I eat sushi all over the U S even from gas stations and this was the worst I have ever had. I hope this was just an off night and it gets better. read more
