I met up withe some friends here for coffee - was my first time here. The inside of the cafe is a bit crowded, especially around the register area, it gets pretty congested. No clear indication of where to line up and which way the line goes. I got the cold brew, and it was ok. Nothing to write home about. I was surprised how many people were inside the cafe, considering COVID restrictions. I'm sure they have air purifiers running, but the cafe didn't have any open windows or doors, yet a lot of seats and many people seated pretty close. Yes they have plastic barriers between tables, but considering many people have their masks off to eat/drink, it made me a little uncomfortable. I wish it was a bit more open air, at least keep doors and windows open. read more

I don't often leave 1 star reviews, but Coffee Talk consistently disappoints on quality of food, coffee, and customer service. The only thing that is always decent is the breakfast sandwich, but after they forgot to put my husband's order in and treated us like we were crazy people who forgot what we ordered is the last straw. I've lived in Kaimuki my entire life, and I try to always support local businesses. I will NEVER be patronizing Coffee Talk again. The Curb or Bean About Town are much better options for your morning caffeine fix! read more

Coffee Talk is my go-to place for catching up with mentors or friends. The setting is super nice and I love the ambiance. On the practical note, if you're coming to study, depending on where you're seated there aren't many outlets available to charge laptops. When it gets busy it can become a bit loud and servers might be a bit preoccupied. However, I've always great costumer service and help when ordering drinks/food. I gotta say, I'm a Lavender Latte lover but I'm not a big fan of theirs. However, I do love ordering their bagels and desserts. read more

Awesome place and super fun environment! Been coming here for years but the last year have been coming less and less as staff seems to become more and more agitated. Red head always has her panties in a twist so beware!! Sometimes management even seems to be a bit irritated with customers when there is a rush despite customers not doing anything but standing in line. Quality food and beverage but customer service can use a little work. I think a change in system could be beneficial for everybody. I went to Coffee Talk the other day because I've always liked their coffee and I wanted to support a local business. I really appreciate the variety of lattes they have. This is a great spot to go to if you want to try something new. However, I have to knock them down to one star due to their lack of social distancing efforts. Yes, masks are required and all dine-in is limited to 90 minutes maximum, but they don't have any other guidelines for customers who are ordering at the register. They need to put up some type of sign or tape on the ground to show customers where to stand. Although they have very little space at the register, they could easily open the front door and have the line go outside, guided by signs and tape to keep everyone six feet apart. Instead, the front of their register is very chaotic and the more people that enter, the more confusing it is for customers to figure out where to go. In addition, they could easily clear out part of their dining area as a waiting area. Instead, everyone was waiting at the register and that just added to the chaos. On top of that, the staff was helping more than one customer at a time at the register. As someone was paying for their drink, I was called up to place my order. I had absolutely no idea where to go and eventually had to stand right next to the other customer ordering. The same thing happened to me when I paid for my order. I also noticed that the staff do not seem to be following  proper guidelines with each other. There were four people behind the counter working very closely to each other (the space behind the counter is not that large). In addition, the woman who made my drink wasn't wearing a mask, she just had a bandana over her face that she had to keep pulling up. Although I know they say scarves and bandanas work as well as masks, I think people handling food should be taking the highest precaution as possible. Maybe Coffee Talk could provide this kind of protective equipment to their employees to make sure everyone is as safe as possible.  Although I normally enjoy coming here, I hope Coffee Talk steps up their health regulations because what they currently have set up is not acceptable in today's climate. read more

This place is a total letdown when it comes to the quality of coffee and customer service. To start off, their coffee is mediocre. Flavor notes from all my visits are always the same: super sour and acidic (nothing special). I don't know what the training process is like there, but staff obviously don't know what they're doing when it comes to calibrating their espresso. Secondly, their specialty drink items lack any distinctive flavors or complexity. It honestly seems as though they're more interested in the quantity than the quality of their products. In addition to the disappointing coffee, the staff, ESPECIALLY the older women, are extremely rude and uptight. When I attempted to place my order, the cashier responded with the most careless demeanor. It was clear that they were disinterested in providing a positive experience. Any questions or inquiries I had were met with impatience and a condescending tone, as if I was burdening them with my presence. The complete absence of basic courtesy and professionalism was astounding! It's disheartening to see a coffee shop that fails to prioritize the fundamental aspect of delivering a memorable coffee experience. Don't waste your time going here. read more

I come here fairly often (whenever I get my nails done at Head to Toes nail salon upstairs). But today is the worst it's ever been. Despite there being 4 people behind the counter I was in line (behind 2 people) for 15 minutes. It is really close to where I get my nails done, but after today idk if I will come back. The time my bf and I came they gave us the wrong drinks. And today my Nutella latte was the most watered down drink I've had in a long time. Is it just me or is the world so weird POST-COVID? I was super excited to sit in a cafe for the first time after surfing the other day and luckily Coffee Talk allows indoor seating. My bagel and salmon was absolutely delicious and they gave such a large portion that I was able to take some home for a hana hou for lunch! I like coffee talk. I like kaimuki and I like coffee, so it makes sense that I'd like coffee talk too. Honestly, if there were a Starbucks in kaimuki, I'd probably frequent coffee talk less. However, I'm partially glad kaimuki is still filled with independent stores, not huge brand name places like Starbucks. It adds to kaimuki's appeal and makes it a pretty special place. The workers here are friendly enough. One of the girls working asked me about my college hoodie because she was applying to the same school. We had a little conversation and I enjoy talking to high school kids about college :) The menu is very extensive. There are a variety of juices, coffee drinks and teas. There are pastries and more hearty options. I like getting the orange juice and a pastry and sitting to people watch or do some work. I haven't gotten coffee because I always feel kinda warm in coffee talk. I guess I could get iced coffee....Lots of people come here to have informal meetings and there are always a bunch of students doing homework too. You can get a wifi password at the cash register when you order. There is limited street parking (and the parking patrol in kaimuki is fierce!), you can also park across the street in the private lot, but it'll cost you 75 cents an hour. Come if you like to support local businesses (especially those in Kaimuki! Yay Kaimuki!) and on't mind having to pay for parking. :) read more

Love Hawaii, hate the hype. We keep seeing long lines and people waiting for hours to be seated, just to get mediocre food at steep prices. The local restaurant owners know, when they provide slow service, long lines form, and other tourists see the lines and associate it with great food/service. Perpetuating the long lines for their mediocre food/service. In a city where the primary customer base is a one time tourist, the food doesn't have to be good, as long as they can force a line to form. Coffee talk is the contrary to the norm. In an island that's guilty of taking advantage of the naive tourist. I didn't knowingly speak to the owner/s of this establishment but have determined they must be well traveled and possibly come from the east coast of the main land. Their classic Nova Lox and Cheese spoke to me. Crusty bagel with chewy center, the likes of any great New York Jewish bakery. Accompanied by the complete compliment of appropriate fixings, right down to the capers. The cup of coffee I had was incredible. It didn't taste like the pure Kona coffee most places clout. Kona beans are extremely acidic and bitter, brewing up a cup that's stronger tasting than most people prefer. Coffee Talk's coffee beans taste more like a blend of Kona, African, and Sumatran beans. A much richer blend with bold highlights and chocolaty, nutty flavors with pumpkin spice undertones that make it unique and desirable. Equivalent to a special Valentine's blend that a more global place with a siren as a logo offers once a year. We tried many of the goodies from the display case as well. All though everything was outstanding, I'd highly recommend the butter mochi. My kiddo approves! This is truly an establishment that I saw locals come through. Service was what I'd expect as a regular at my local café back home, food was delicious (appropriately priced), coffee was superb, and I didn't leave feeling like I was taken advantage of. If you're visiting on vacation, I'd recommend Coffee Talk as one of your first stops. Set the expectation bar before you visit the "popular" YouTube recommended places. read more

Tucked away on the corner of Waialae and 12th Ave. tucked away, not even. Lol Not your ordinary coffee franchise or tiny coffee hang out joint. But this place is so unassuming from the outside. Parking is everywhere surrounding this place, just a matter of finding one :D Hence, don't judge a book by its cover saying. Walked in, bam, it's huge! I definitely miss my old 'hood coffee shop! After 8 years of patronage and being spoiled by the great coffee (it took a while to appreciate it after having to drink Starbucks - which has taken a very steep downturn in quality during those years), the only comfort I have is knowing I have access to equally good coffee here at Uptown Espresso (which ranks #1 among locals). The Coffee Talk shake was always a great treat on a hot August day or dessert after a good meal in the neighborhood. The veggie burger - that was my addiction. Served on a wheat bun, with spicy aioli and avocado (add option), it's a winner in my book. It could be due to the fact I was a regular, but I've never experienced bad service there. Carden cooks up great Tuesday lunch specials now and he's very friendly and helpful. The owner support local music/bands and offers the under 18 crowd a place to hang out and learn magic tricks or attend shows. They offer dog biscuits to canine companions and they're allowed to hang out with their owners in the shop - always well-behaved (and I'm not a dog person). Free wi-fi is a bonus. The bathroom could be much cleaner and they tend to sell out of the veggie burger w/ avocado, which is why I'm not giving it 5 stars. I can't wait to walk into the shop again one day! read more

I love Coffee Talk, and so happy they are still open and serving coffee. I love Liz and the positive energy of the staff she hires. I love the selection of ono kau kau, pastry, scones, quiche and breads. The prices are reasonable, the service is quick and friendly, and it's a great place to hang out and talk story. So this morning when my daughter offered to run up to Coffee Talk and pick me up a coffee and scone I was stoked. But auwe! For the first time ever, and I have been a regular since their old location, the blueberry scone was dry as F and junk. Blueberry are in season so no excuse for those horrible ersatz healthy tasting (tasteless) crappy scones. Believe me this is an ANOMALY! Tried the Oatcake (pretty tasty and moist, and was one of the better vegan-friendly treats I've had on occasion), as well as some of the specials, including: the Cinnamon Roll Latte, and the Dirty Chai Latte. The shop's overall vibe, drinks, plentiful seating areas elevate Coffee Talk to one of my fave coffee stops on the island. However, although I want to give this place five stars, the line to order/pay was a bit dysfunctional: ended up standing awkwardly at the front for several minutes since they seem to take your order, then immediately proceed to prep your drinks without having you pay beforehand. This also resulted in several other folks hanging around near the cash register, which caused confusion as to who was in line, who had paid (if anyone), and who was just trying to retrieve their order. read more

Even when it was time to pay the transaction wasn't complete before she walked back towards the conversation. This place used to be great and worth the now 20 minute drive since moving for their coffee. I've always ordered the iced Nutella latte and my boyfriend the iced tumeric honey latte. They were delicious!! Now, maybe 1/4 times they are made correctly and taste like they should. The majority of the time they look like (as the picture shows) and taste like normal lattes.
