For a coffee shop, not great coffee. I love coffee and trying out new shops. This one is not it. I have been here a few time and each time I give them a chance and they let me down. Their coffee just tastes like rubber bands to me. They load the iced drinks with so much ice, you only get 3 sips before it's all gone. They do have good food though. I do enjoy the pasties and bagels, even if they are a bit pricey. This place is always packed and it's difficult to find a seat during peak hours. Coffee, breakfast, and more in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii... I was going through my stuff and found a Loyalty Card for Coffee Talk. I remember that I had been there before, but when? What did I have? Luckily, Yelp saved my photos! I had some time this morning to get a Matcha Latte with Oat Milk and a Lox & Everything Bagel. I had my drink "hot" in a ceramic mug at a high top table by the front window. Other customers were in the various places around the cafe. There's an enclosed glass room, counter seating, and a few tables and chairs in-between. Patrons were chatting with each other, doing FaceTime on their laptops, and working remotely while I concentrated on my photos. Tip: once you enter the shop, find the end of the line to the left and queue up. One of the two baristas will call you to the counter for your order. My latte was made, then the barista rang me up and I sat at a table. My takeout order was brought to me at my table. Parking is either Municipal Parking Lot, or metered street parking. I found a "free" space by the crosswalk on 12th Avenue. (If you want free parking, go either on a Sunday or a holiday when metered street parking is free.) I was afraid to get a ticket, so, I drank the Matcha Latte quickly and placed my used mug into the dish pan by the Self-service station. Located on the corner of Waialae Avenue and 12th Avenue, Coffee Talk is a popular place. It recently advertised an expansion to its menu: adult beverages in the evening. Coffee Talk has been around since 1992 and has no sign of slowing down! Note: I'm glad that I took my generous portion of Lox & Bagel home. It was quite messy because the capers kept falling off; the salmon slices were large and had to be folded; and the tomato slices & slivered red onions needed to be placed on the spreadable cream cheese! Went here for the first time and... just awful. The service was off from the start. When I ordered an iced matcha latte for myself and my partner, the barista immediately started making it before I could even finish my request. I had to shout "with oat milk!" because she was already in the zone, ignoring the other details of my order. I also wanted to add syrup, but the drink was already done by the time I could mention it. Frustrated and confused, I waited for her to finish and come back to complete my full order. It felt rushed and disorganized, especially since I had 4 items to order. After making my partner's iced matcha (we just skipped the syrup), she handed us our drinks and rang us up after the fact. Is that normal? It also felt like she just wanted us to leave. When we sat down to wait for our breakfast, things got worse. We waited a bit, then the staff called our order. My partner went up to grab it, and while we were sitting there, an older woman (likely the manager) came over, asking if we'd ordered food. She said they'd been calling us, and I explained my partner went up there right when they called. She then scolded us for ordering to-go when sitting down, even though we explained it was our first time and we didn't know. Trying to de-escalate (funny, a CUSTOMER de-escalating a staff member), we apologized, but she kept going on about their sustainable practices. I get it, but her tone was off. Really wanted to give this place a glowing review, but my experience was pretty mediocre. It's a cute spot with a nice vibe and great location, but the service was just okay. The quiche was disappointing, the frittata was bland, and the croissant sandwich was decent--better than the other pastries we tried, but still not memorable. My lavender latte was good, though the heart design faded quickly. My brother's matcha latte didn't even get a design--seems like they gave up on his. Also, how do you have a coffee station with no creamer? The tables were wobbly, too. Overall, it's a charming place to chat over coffee, but the breakfast pastries were a letdown. Comprehensive and fun menu! Specialty drinks all seem super delicious. I tried the Thai Nitro which is a nitro cold brew with condensed milk ($7 after tax). I like nitros and it was perfect. Nice and creamy up top. It can get a little crowded at the entrance. The woman who helped me was super helpful and patient. She went over popular items with me when i explained it was my first time. The coffee cake ($4) has notes of yuzu and it is so yummy! Both my coffee and my cake are 10/10. Went there midday on Friday. This place has retro looking nostalgic interiors and is cozy. There are a lot of seats and it seems like many people stay for a long time. What I love about this place is they have good decaffeinated coffee and vegan cakes as I prefer to drink decaf and am lactose intolerant. read more

The first stop on my Sunday routine. The staff is amazing. At times, the line is long but seems to go fast since there are usually 3,4 baristas. The doctor says "no caffeine" so my drink of choice is a decaff latte with almond or oat milk. My snack is almost always the vegan oat cake. The banana bread is also good. This is my favorite coffee place on island. Parking is a bit tough, and lines can be very long. Staff are friendly and efficient... so it moves rather quickly. They have a great variety on their menu and lots of delicious pastries/food. There is plenty of seating inside, but it can get pretty loud. I'm sure most people who've been to Kaimuki before know Coffee Talk already for their great caffeine laden drinks, baked goods and awesome staff. But now you can get all that plus alcohol. Rebranded to just The Talk, this previous coffee shop is now a late night hangout too. The staff have created a vast and eclectic menu of drinks so that everyone is bound to find something to fit their taste buds. My personal favorite is the Japanese tea garden. Don't worry if you're not an alcohol drinker, they have non-alcoholic drinks that taste great too. There is a non-alcoholic black sesame drink that I love. Or you could get a late night snack. Their tiramisu is dense and delicious and can be ordered with a shot of liqueur. It has definitely been added to our list night hangout spots. read more

Stopped in Coffee Talk to pick up a few drinks before heading to the beach. When my friend ordered a caramel macchiato, the cashier asked if she'd like a true macchiato or a Starbucks version. She was also kind enough to explain the difference. I picked up a Turkey Avocado sandwich. It was a huge sandwich for only $10! Real, thick pieces of turkey with avocado, greens, lettuce, and a mustard aioli. The rest of their pastries looked delicious as well. Note: There are no prices listed anywhere in the store! It was my first time here, and I was excited to try a new coffee spot after hearing good things. I loved the vibe as soon as I walked in, and the staff who took my order were kind. I ordered a matcha and a pastry to go, planning to sit with my friends--who were also visiting for the first time--while we enjoyed our drinks before heading out. However, an older staff member approached us and came off very rude. She told us that if we ordered "to go," we needed to leave, as in walk out and go, rather than sitting there. She also explained that if we had said "for here," they would have served us with sustainable cups and plates. I'm all for that and wouldn't have minded doing that if we had known--it was simply our first time there, and we didn't know their policies. We apologized and explained it was our first visit, but her attitude didn't change. She then mentioned they were closing soon and that a jazz band would be performing in the area where we were sitting, implying we wouldn't be able to stay. She said we had about 45 minutes and added, "Who knows, maybe you can stay longer," which felt sugar coated, dismissive and unnecessary What could have been an enjoyable first experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the lack of kindness and patience. A little understanding would have gone a long way, especially for first-time visitors. While the coffee and atmosphere had potential, this interaction left a sour impression. read more

We had a party of 15 people, the owner Liz Schwartz, prepared a perfect lunch that included a delicious sandwiches and salads plus included finished off with a scrumptious desert platter! We stopped by after picking up malasadas from Pipeline Bakery as they are conveniently located across one another. Malasadas + coffee = the perfect combination! Upon waiting in line and taking a cursory glance at their menu, one thing about Coffee Talk stuck out in comparison to the plethora of other cafes I've been to-their menu does not have prices...Before even ordering we asked the barista the cost of specific drinks and even she had to play around with the iPad and let us know, "around $4-$5" which are stereotypical cafe prices. We eventually ordered their Holiday specials: Peppermint Mocha with oat milk Gingerbread Nitro Latte They both tasted different-good different in comparison to Starbucks but at the end of the day, my only gripe is their lack of transparency, which I shared via Instagram DM with them. I don't think the cost of a coffee or latte will fluctuate one week to the next, and I would hope they don't pay their employees with that kind of mindset. read more

They've changed the name to Talk Kaimuki and reopen on Thursday Friday and Saturday nights from 6p-midnight for cocktails. Brittney is a master mixologist and has created an amazing cocktail menu, selected gorgeous glassware and barware and transforms the space into a cozy bar. Feels friendly and intimate but also with lovely fancy delicious cocktails. She and her staff are warm and friendly, will help you choose a drink based on your preferences. Reminiscent of bar leather apron level skill and professionalism but much more approachable, friendly and fitting for Kaimuki. For now only 3 food items but the cheese plate was full of food and beautiful to look at like everything else here. There are days where there will be pop up food menus from local businesses like nana ai katsu also. What a lovely fun addition to the neighborhood. 4.5 Stars All the parking for this coffee shop is paid (with some limited free parking in residential), but it is rather plentiful. The inside of the shop is decorated with cool local-made tables and the large windows let in vast amounts of natural light...perfect for enjoying your tasty latte! The lattes here are pretty special! There is an expansive menu of unique lattes but we ended up ordering the thai-dee haupia latte and the Nutella latte. When the Nutella latte came out, the barista (who was very nice and attentive) said it was a mocha...which is technically correct. That being said, there wasn't very much hazelnut flavor in this mocha. The thai-dee haupia latte was very tasty and if you order it iced, you can get a very cool picture! I grew up hating coconut but when in Hawaii, do as the Hawaiians do! Definitely see myself coming back here for this latte! read more

This is a nice internet cafe with great coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. They also offer alcoholic beverages, but I didn't try those. The staff is friendly, prices are reasonable, and you can use the public Wi-Fi for as long as you want. It would be better if the kitchen had a toaster oven to warm up your breakfast instead of just a public microwave. While the microwave is good for heating coffee, it made my delicious almond croissant limp and gooey. This is my first time here, but it won't be my last. read more

I've always been in love with the idea of doing work and studying at coffee shops and told myself if & when I ever did start working out of cafes, this would be one of my first to visit. And I finally got a chance to check it out! It's a very colorful, hipster spot on the corner of Waialae, and not only is there ample parking in the two public lots but also a good number of street parking stalls. There's free wifi, outlets, a bathroom, a very extensive food and drink menu, lots of seats and beautiful natural light. I got the hot matcha latte, and it was on the sweeter side which I wasn't expecting. The matcha taste was fairly light and overtaken by the sugar. I also got the cinnamon croissant which was quite hefty, but again also pretty sweet. I'll definitely be back because this spot checks off all the requirements I need for the perfect work spot, and hopefully I can find food & drink options that I like more next time! read more

Located right on Waialae Ave on the corner, you need to find street parking or on the side they have a public parking lot which you need to paid a machine and you will get a ticket and pay for it when your are done. The bagel sandwich was good and tasty you can get it on a bagel or croissant sandwich. The Pina colada coffee cake was tasty but pretty heavy meaning not light and fluffy but it was good & different. The Banana bread was very tasty and flavorful. Chocolate chip scones was also good and tasty. The coffee was very good I like dark coffee so I enjoyed the house brew. They had cold brew which was ok If you want to bring your pet you are allowed they have inside seating and also seating outside in front the store or a lanai area partially inside and outside. read more
