Maybe because I like my noodles more al dente, I was not a fan of the noodles they use. We got dumplings and baos too which are tasty and good. I came here after visiting Fuyu Ramen. I ordered their Miso Ramen with extra chasu instead ground pork. Simply put, the miso brothe is just like your traditional miso ramen. My only beef with this ramen is that they put too much shredded cabbage that I honestly felt like I was eating cabbage ramen. I couldn't even enjoy consuming my noodles without having an insane amount of cabbage getting in my way. The toppings were like any typical toppings, black wood ear mushroom, bamboo shoots, boiled egg and my least favorite topping to have in a bowl of ramen...bean sprouts....why the hell are bean sprouts in a bowl of ramen....The only thing I have to say about the toppings is that the chasu pork slices were nice and tender, just a little bit on the seasoning. The noodles themselves were okay, wavy type but for some reason the noodles weren't really working with the brothe. All in all, the ramen was passable but I wouldn't order again. My boyfriend and I arrived Tamashii Ramen at 4:20pm. The restaurant was not busy at all. We were quickly seated. We came here for a late lunch but just missed the lunch hour special. We ordered Okonomiyaki for the appetizer. The Okonomiyaki was really good. We both enjoyed the flavor and the texture. I ordered the curry ramen with fried chicken and my boyfriend ordered dipping ramen with pork. The curry ramen broth was decent. The noodles were on the chewy side. I like my noodles a little bit softer. The fried chicken was just okay. Some cuts are better than the other. I believe some of them are dark meat instead of white meat. I would prefer all white meat. The flavor was okay. My boyfriend liked the dipping ramen here. There's not a lot of ramen places around this area. I think if you are craving on a hot steamy ramen on a cold day. This can be your choice. I tried their regular ramen with pork before and that tasted delicious! Being from Florida our Asian food is typically lackluster. You really have to search for good authentic Asian cuisines and to get ramen I have to drive pretty far so something kinda average. Also the temperature is constantly at boiling outside so usually my go-to isn't piping hot and spicy soups. Different story in NY in december. I immediately couldn't stop thinking about a nice hot bowl of ramen and we ate here on my last night visiting. This is a tiny spot and when we got there it was a slight wait (about 20 minutes). The smells coming from the kitchen were hypnotic. Once we sat down i had a bit of sensory overload with how many ramen option there were. I decided on the kara miso ramen and my friend got the vegetable ramen. It came out pretty quickly and was piping hot filled with yummy stuff. The kara miso ramen has pork, egg, bamboo shoots, scallions, noodles, bean sprouts and a delicious glob of spicy sauce in the middle. I mixed it up and dug in. It was so amazing. The broth is what dreams are made of. Prefect amount of spicy and miso flavors. The pork was tender and delicious and the soft boil egg was so scrumptious all soaked with this amazing broth. Astoria is filling up with restaurants worthy of visiting. This has been in my bookmarks for a while and I finally got to go this year. After going to Japan , I found a love for dipping ramen and soo glad that this was an option here. Nothing beats what Ive had at Tokyo station but Tamashii was a pretty good experience and meal. I have ordered takeout many times from this hidden gem. Their ramen is one of the best that I've had. The prices are very reasonable too. For lunch, the cha siu rice bowls are about 8 bucks, albeit in a smaller container than the dinner dishes. Nonetheless, they pack it to the top. I like to add a side of veggies (bak choy or brocoli), taking the price up to about 10 bucks. Such a great deal for lunch! I've had the cold and hot ramen bowls. My favourite is the cold ramen with dipping sauce. The dip tastes so authentic. The flavours are similar to that of dishes I've had in Japan. I don't recall seeing much of an outdoor seating area. But indoor seating is available. Though the only times I've been there are during the day and it was pretty empty. My friend can't eat pork so in the "notes" section we asked for no chashu and to possibly sub it with chicken. We got a call from them a few mins later asking us if we would prefer the veggie miso soup base since the other has pork. We opted for that and we were not disappointed! Chasyu ramen - was watered down broth and bland. There was too much cabbages thsn noodles. Shrimp bun-tempura shrimp. Was good but greasy Pork bun- too much sauce. Takyaki- ok drenched with sauce. I use to love this place, me and my friends were going to have dinner there tonight. Until I saw how the waitresses with the glasses treated all the delivery people horribly especially this girl, she was so stressed because she had waited already 20 min and her order wasn't ready. All she tried to do was to give good customer service. I felt so bad for her BECAUSE SHE LOST AN ORDER WHILE WAITING FOR NOTHING. IT was actually a turn off. Instead my friends and I decided to try the new Peruvians restaurant next door and guess what. Best Decision ever. We randomly stumbled upon here while looking for the halal food cart across the street (which was no where to be seen at 12:30pm on a weekend!). Intrigued by the reviews on Yelp and our love for ramen, we decided to check this place out. We ordered the takoyaki appetizer, a kara miso ramen, and the champon. The appetizer came with four takoyaki balls and topped with what appears to be dried onion flakes. It came piping hot and they are very generous with the octopus; so yummy! The champon was absolutely delicious with a deep savory, smoky seafood flavor. I never had anything like it; very delicious with just a hint of spice. The kara (spicy) miso ramen is definitely one of the better spicy miso ramens I have had in general; the flavor is rich and bold, and the portion is humongo. The egg was perfectly boiled and did not cost extra which is nice. The noodles were al dente. Of the two ramens, I prefer the champon just a little more because it is more unique, although they really are both fantastic. Everything was on point and just soo delicious! Cannot wait to come back. Service was good and friendly. I'm a fan. I fell into a deep coma after I got home. I am probably going to get a lot of flak for this ramen review as well, but I don't see why people go bonkers over Ramen. I think it's good, but I never had an amazing Japanese ramen dish. I love Japanese food, but I think the flavors in ramen are too muted, they don't offer a lot of pronounced flavor. I know ramen is known for it's subtle nuances, but I think it's too subtle for me, maybe it's the Thai in me that is used to explosive Asian flavors. They had me at potato wrapped shrimp. I find it amazing that even after working in this neighborhood for close to 20 years, I can still be surprised and delighted by a restaurant that I have never heard of. This is one of them. Above par Ramen is not hard to come by in this part of Queens, however, that just makes the bar that much higher. And I must say that Tamashii Ramen has successfully challenged that bar. Pull apart tooth tender with just the right blend of seasoning and texture, that makes the entire sensation from taste to swallow, very enjoyable. There are 3 things I look for in an awesome ramen shop. 1) broth - must be flavorful and not too oily. can't have hella fat chunks 2) noodles - thicker and more el dente in texture. I like having chewy noodles 3) eggs - must be soft boiled and running eggs. So my ramen covered 1 & 3 but I forgot to ask for the thick noodles, which is my fault not the ramen shop's. I came across Tamashii Ramen while looking for places in Queens that offer okonomiyaki. I was happy to see that somewhere did so made my way down here. In addition to the okonomiyaki, they also had bao that looked amazing and takoyaki. I ordered all three. Perhaps I'm a little biased having lived in Osaka, which is known for its amazing okonomiyaki and takoyaki, but it tasted a bit bland. Though the few places that carry it in NYC arean't nearly as good as the ones in Osaka (or Hiroshima for that matter), this wasn't even fantastic by NYC standards. Not horrible, but mediocre. The bao was the best part and I'd recommended that the most. I'd still come here if I was in the area and craving okonomiyaki, because there aren't that many places in the city for it. (The only reason it's 4 stars instead of a million is because of the service. It was that bad). Now - keep in mind this was my first legit ramen experience ever. We got there at dinner time on a Saturday and the place is s m a l l. She told us a 5 minute wait but we ended up waiting 20. When we sat - we had enough time to decide our entire meal because it was about another 15 minutes until we were acknowledged. We decided to start with pork bao buns (SO GOOD) and seaweed salad. As a meal I ordered a classic Miso Ramen. Fantastic choice. The pork bao buns were soft and incredibly flavorful. I could have already died after that. The Ramen came out and it was easily the most delicious soup I have ever had. I love that their noodles are al dente. The pork was so tasty. The egg was the, well, egg on top. Small ramen joint right in the middle of Astoria. My friends and I stopped by here after seeing the high ratings and reviews here on Yelp. Upon getting seating, I originally was planning on ordering a ramen dish, but I later was craving a crispy and fried dish, so I settled for the chicken katsu with curry and rice. The venue was cozy and had a very homey feel. I liked the wooden tables and the clean restrooms. The wait staff were very attentive and courteous. Our waitress even went above and beyond and provided our party with a complimentary bowl of edamame, as we sat and waited for our orders. My chicken katsu with curry and rice was very delectable. The katsu was fried to perfection and wasn't too dry like most fried meats can turn out. The medley of corn and veggies provided a great change of taste after eating the katsu. Both ladies working the day I visited were extremely polite and attentive (I wish I knew their names, but if it helps it was on a Friday, October 2nd around 4pm).
