Tamashii is solid for several reasons - after COVID it's been hard finding places that stay open past 10PM for a hearty meal after a long day at work. Add some rain and a couple friends- what more could you ask for but a big bowl of consistently good ramen and perfectly fried appetizers? The staff is super attentive and kind at all the Tamashii locations but shoutout to the Astoria team working their butts off serving everyone and handling the endless delivery orders. As a personal preference i say opt out of the 'Tamashii Ramen' and go for the Kara Miso- their ironically signature ramen dish is known for being "light and clean"- which isnt what I'm looking for when I'm opting for ramen as a meal. The selection of meats and broths is also great making it difficult to choose from. I love the miso-based ramen and the champon and curry ramen. You can tell we like them spicy. We ordered taco wasabi, okonomiyaki, Ika karage for appetizers. Then Hubby ordered dumpling soup and spicy vegetable ramen with seafood for me! Of all the dishes, the not-so-authentic word was Ika Kara-age, or fried squid. The flour they use is a bit different than the typical taste of the Ika kara-age. I've had this plenty over the years at Japanese restaurants; therefore, I could tell the difference. We liked the taco wasabi and plan to order this again next time but will order for each instead of sharing it with Hubby. What's mine is mine. What's his is mine! Yay! After being disappointed by Tamashii's shoyu ramen multiple times in the past, I recently came back with a lot of hesitation but was pleasantly surprised. My standards for ramen in the US is not high, but their shoyu ramen was honestly the only one I've still had to this day that was just not good at all. It was an odd combination of flavors that didn't go well at all together. (My roommate at the time also went separately and agreed...we're both Japanese if that gives us any credit) This put me off so I stopped coming here for 5+ years until the other day when a different ramen restaurant I wanted to go to was unexpectedly closed. This time I had the kara miso ramen, which in comparison was much better. Nothing spectacular but exactly how you'd expect kara miso to taste, a bit on the salty side with a hint of spice. I went during late lunchtime on a Friday, and there was only one waiter so she seemed a bit busy but she was pleasant and attentive.
