The seating in the restaurant was a great variety during a week night. Seems to be like a neighborhood gem for great takeout. Food was yummy and satisfying! I had great expectations for this new Tampopo. I have been a customer since their time on Bennet Ave and visit their sister restaurant on 187th. The food quality was decent. Not great. Broth for the ramen mediocre, spicy noodles overcooked and tasted like a cheap Thai restaurant. But what really bothered me was the slow and confused service. Ordered a bowl of Ramen which took over 45 minutes to make. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and the only reason I can think of was the take out orders during lunch time. The waiters were moving around the restaurant a lot but kept forgetting to bring drinks from the bar or dishes from the kitchen. So drinks weren't cold and food wasn't warm enough. They have a lunch set that features a smaller portioned ramen bowl, with well proportioned appetizers, such as fried gyoza or chicken karaage. - Spicy Miso Ramen, (3.5/5): pretty standard ramen - I like how half an egg is already included in the price. the pork was slightly sweet which was surprising, and the corn was a nice touch. Their garlic edamame is a new fave of mine. Their bok choy is good as well. They have what I call a lunch special where it's a mini ramen soup a choice of gyoza and a can of soda. It's very filling. Very cute ramen spot in upper manhattan, and I appreciated that they had a lunch combo so i could get a mini ramen, half an appetizer, and a drink, which was the perfect amount of food for me for lunch. The miso ramen has a very light and delicate flavor which I enjoyed , however the mushrooms were a tad too sweet for me after some time. The veggie gyoza is fantastic as an appetizer. Everyone that knows me knows I would kill for some ramen. The assumption is always that in New York the best is downtown but this place beats that stereotype. They have great combos, everything is always cooked to perfection and the menu is very straight forward. No fluff, or gimmicks this place's food speaks for itself! The staff here is quick on their feet which I love because usually when I visit it's on limited time. One day, I do want to come with enough time to enjoy the vibes. The place is smaller than most, but clean and cozy. I recommend calling if you're a group of 3 or more. Every single thing I've had here (close to the entire menu) is cooked to perfection and the panda cup they have is SUPER adorable. Their drinks always do the job! I recommend any sake! Simple, but effective bowl of ramen in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood. I walked out and really saw some unsightly people doing unsightly in the streets as I walking to the subway to get home. Okay, enough of that. This is about this little ramen bar that looks straight out of Tokyo. I have never been to Tokyo (it is in the cards for any of you that is following my travels), but from what I have researched, close enough. The ramen and food as a whole is tasty, but pricey. It comes with plenty of noodles (get extra), and a flavorful broth. The chashu pork is grilled and charred perfectly. I really enjoyed the bao buns here. Two to an order but they work well. I did not like the service here. It is aloof and fairly unfriendly. My server seemed to have that, "I wish I were anywhere but here right now" name tag and was more interested in flirting with the kitchen staff than catering to my needs. The music playing in the background about songs concerning heart attacks, for a meal that is notoriously high in salt content, was fairly disconcerting. Maybe do not play that when you know the food you are serving. Just saying. Poor choice. Was quite surprised to stumble upon a ramen place like this in Washington Heights. Of most the ramen places in the area, I would say this may have been one of the better ones I had the opportunity to try. There is not a lot of seating and it's quite a small restaurant. There are about 10 or so bar seats available for people planning on eating here so it's not the best place for groups. The service was quite fast. It's a very streamlined place with quick service. There was only one person managing all the dine in services and he was quite nice. I ordered a mini spicy miso ramen combo with pork gyoza and was a big fan of the idea of mini ramen combos. I feel like ramen bowls are quite filling and expensive alone I tend to feel guilty about ordering an appetizer but this avoided that for me. Of the ramen I have had in Washington heights this is definitely on the better tasting end. They only provided 3 pork gyozas which I evaporated quite fast. I feel like the chicken karage is a better option for the mini ramen combos. It was relatively inexpensive and was quite fast to come out, the meal was done within an hour. Let me tell you, this hole in the wall shop can take my money any day of the week now. I came in here looking for some good ramen in the upper part of Manhattan. I was happily surprised when I saw a spot that had great reviews. When I arrived, I was surprised by how small it was. I got there and had to wait (which in my mind was a good sign). I waited about 20 minutes to get a seat for 2. Note that these are all like "bar" seating with about 10 seats across the entire venue. I grabbed the menu and immediately ordered a beer and dumplings as an appetizer. I enjoyed them both. Next came the Ramen. I got the Spicy Miso Ramen. I thoroughly enjoyed this and actually asked from chili flakes on the side to make it spicier (it could've used more of a kick). Was super happy with the food, the quick service and the ambiance. It was long awaited, but we finally made it in for dinner. Got in at 5pm and the place filled up fast. Absolutely horrendous experience tonight. I ordered my food online at 8:15 p.m. and arrived at 8:40. I then sat and waited another 25 minutes for the order to be completed. When I arrived, they told me it would be ready in 2 minutes. I finally walked out with my food at 9:05 p.m. -- 50 minutes to receive two pork bao buns and the vegetable curry rice. I walked home in the pouring, freezing rain, only to discover that the curry rice was completely wrong. What I received was basically a bowl of potatoes -- no peppers, no mushrooms, nothing even close to what the menu describes. According to the menu, the vegetable curry rice is supposed to include egg, bean sprouts, lotus root, and shiitake mushrooms. Instead, I got a bowl of whatever they threw together and rushed out the door. I couldn't return it due to the weather, so I was stuck with an incorrect and carelessly prepared order. Not only will I never spend another dollar at this establishment, but I plan to share this experience with others in the Hudson Heights/Washington Heights community so they're aware of this failure. read more

Maybe we came on a busy day, they had us waiting over 30minutes, standing by the door and having to move every time someone came in to pick up an order. After standing there, I also believe that they have a huge clientele on delivery orders. The place is very cozy, but the service was slow. Some plates were delicious, some didn't live up to my standards, based on my friend's. Once again, I came with my bf and my (fan lover of ramen) mother... we shared appetizers: Steamed (pork) bao buns, Pan fried gyoza dumplings and Fried pork katsu. For entree I had Shoyu ramen with chicken karaage added on, my mom had Shio classic ramen, and my bf had the Spicy miso ramen with pork katsu added on. We LOVED the appetizers, every single one was super tasteful and different in flavor, but we were mind blown by the deliciousness of each appetizer choice!! The ramen were not as we expected... the eggs were so cold, we couldn't even eat them, my broth was salty, my mom's broth choice lacked on flavor, they took so long but our ramen didn't feel or taste like it was freshly made, only some components, like the add ons, but that's that. I would definitely come back to try more of their appetizers, try their rices and maybe their stir fry. But for sure wouldn't come back if I craved ramen only, not my first choice for it. read more

This was my first time here, i literally went an hour before closing. I was greeted right away by a very friendly waiter. I picked where i wanted to sit & right away they brought me the menu & water. Personally I think this style of dining is perfect for Japanese street food. I just wanna eat some yummy food and drink a beer and head out. I came on a Sunday night and had to wait maybe 5 or 10 minutes before a spot opened up. Service was friendly and fast. I got the chicken donburi and a Sapporo. It was fine but I didn't love that the chicken don came with quite a lot of mushrooms, and the nori was very thick slices (I think it's better with little tiny shreds so you get the taste without the texture). Food here is amazing. However that was not the issue. On february 14th, my partner and I came here for some night time ramen. It was all going well then a homeless person came in stinking up the place and begging for money from the customers. He harrassed us over our food for 5-10 minutes before the staff finally asked him to leave. He haggled money from me and another patron that day and even threatened my partner and I to attack us once we leave. This was extremely distasteful, frightening and frustrating as it took entirely too long to be handled and we were not at all regarded for the harrassment we endured. I have not returned since then and do not plan on it since I reached out to management for reconciliation and I have yet to receive a response. The pork was old and the whole dish lacked flavor and personality. Ramen always comes burning hot, but not this one... It was barely warm. Quite frankly, it tasted like I'd tried to prepare it myself at home. I hate to sound such a downer, but this was one of the least appealing ramen I've ever had. Yaki ramen hakata style: same issue with the pork, although very generous in portion. The rest of the ingredients didn't particularly enrich the flavor of the dish. It was a 25 minute wait and hugely busy in the meantime, which is always a good sign - some dine in and lots of takeout.
