Well this was my first time coming here because I'm working in Naperville now and had a craving for sushi. Naperville Illinois is pretty diverse with all these ethnic foods that I don't have to go to back to Chicago or some other suburb. Anyways the sushi tasted fresh both the salmon and the tuna however they posted up for warning sign saying due to the demand of seafood they have to increase the price despite they didn't update their menu. They're bento box was reasonably priced bizarre but I was expecting to have more sushi than Maki rolls as the combination but it was delicious nevertheless I ended up getting the beef bento box. It is run by a Korean owners so they also have a Korean dishes to like bibimbap and possibly bulgogi. It was a bit peculiar because of the fact that it was treated more of like a Subway restaurant approach. So don't expect to be sitting down on some formal tables or chairs almost fast food like. Which I thought was odd or peculiar next to how they conducted their orders. Also you must order $10 worth of food if you're paying with credit card. I've tried here July 2023 & although I first heard of it thru Yelp reviews I'm still on the fence if I'll go again when craving sushi or Pho. That being said since it was first time visit I ordered bento box which you order/pay at counter. Not a big place (tables across the wall & small counter facing window near entrance. You pick where you want to sit & wait for your order to be picked up (again at counter) Definitely a family run business; seemed semi busy due to the fact it was weekend of July 4th & ambiance is very casual along the lines of grabbing a quick lunch solo or with a pal but definitely not a place if you want visual appeals & wait staff to serve you. Food was okay~again I only tried bento box but left not feeling like OMG meal was so memorable I can't wait to go back~suffice it to say if I'm in the area & crave sushi I may give it another try but keep in mind my first & only visit was July 2023 & I still haven't craved going back altho I'm in the area a lot! read more

My rating is 3.5...rounded to 4 stars. My colleague and I found this place thanks to Yelp one day as a potential place to do take out for lunch. Unfortunately, it was closed because they went on a vacation. Well, we finally got a chance to go put in an order the other night for dinner. And overall, we were happy we did but good thing we did not order it for lunch for at least 5 people. While the wait time was greatly underestimated (she quoted 15-20 minutes, and it look about 40 minutes), the portions were good. The pieces of sashimi I got were surprisingly big. They use a spicy sauce that has a good kick. Plus to them for not defaulting to spicy mayo for the "spicy" factor. Other general comments, this restaurant is casual. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. In fact, it looked like it was more of a grab and go atmosphere. While there were only three people working (as I could see), the staff was nice but weren't attentive with an updated wait time or just simply to check in as we were sitting there waiting. Another cool thing was the little Asian snacks they have available for purchase near the register - again, furthering the more grab and go atmosphere. Some items they had were pocky, hi-chews, and etc. While I don't know if I'll go back because of the wait, I could be convinced because they have a big menu. Also, the portions are good. read more

Took my wife here for date nite, We were a little hesitant just because of its size its very small and often hard to get a seat. We stopped in early midweek and got a table we were craving sushi. We order a few rolls they tasted very fresh, A few Korean plates The Spicy pork, The Kalbi short ribs and the Beef Bulgogi everything was excellent. my only complaint is the portions are a bit small but were still excellent. read more

Writing this review as I'm eating my leftovers (they're yummy-if you were wondering). It was a really small place and a kind of difficult to get seating, but on a Friday night thats understandable. Food was overall very good. Sushi was awesome and reasonably priced (spicy tuna and deep fried rolls were so good!!!). Other parts of the menu were just alright, I didn't love the miso soup and fried rice but I'm also a bit picky. So many amazing things on the menu though, would definitely come back! read more

The Korean food is tasty. The beef bento box was $9.99. You get a nice mix of beef and vegetables. You also get a side salad and a California roll. The raw fish here is not fresh. I ordered the typical sashimi fish such as salmon, tuna, red snapper and white tuna. The salmon even had an after taste. Very disappointing. I was hopeful since a customer commented that the fish was fresh and he would only come to this place when out in Lisle. To me, his standards must be low. The spicy salmon was quite spicy but the sauce masked the quality of the fish so you would never know. If I ever come here again, I'll only choose the Korean dishes. read more

I would give this establishment zero stars if I could. I will preface this by saying I will never in my life order from a place like this. My first order a few months ago, I asked for soy sauce and the lady jokingly said of course we always put soy sauce. We receive the order and, lo and behold, there is no soy sauce. I actually called back to complain and a different employee answered, who was very apologetic. Ok. Whatever. Only, I had absolutely no soy sauce at home (the bottle had just broken). That was why I had specified to please include soy sauce. Today, I decided I was going to place an order for small get together with friends. A somewhat large order. So, I peruse the menu and come up with the best combination of rolls and sushi that will accomodate our sushi preferences, and call to order. After listing all the items in my order, the older woman who was taking the order proceeds to let me know that for every single order of an item, there will be a $1 surcharge on the online listed price for that order (whether is is a roll with multiple pieces, or just a sushi/nigiri). So I ask her why and she proceeds to basically yell at me over the phone that the price of RICE has increased such, that temporarily they are implementing a surcharge, and this is not listed on their website published menus (nor any indication of a temporary surcharge). Also, that they do not know how long the surcharge will be in effect for, but it is in effect now. I inquire about this and try to figure out how much this is going to add to my bill given that it is a large order for many people, and it turns out it adds about 40 dollars since I was ordering a lot of individual sushis. Like - GIVE me a BREAK. But not ONLY that, the breaking point was that the lady taking my order was not allowing me to speak or ask questions, nor even begin to complain or express my discontent with what she was telling me. So completely rude and uninterested. Yelling. And truly - absolute Highway robbery with this "temporary surcharge". Missed out on a sushi lover over here - I will never order from your establishment in my life. Not if you were the last sushi restaurant on Earth. I will give my money to Wild Rice, which I ordered from instead for this evening's get together, to my absolute delight given that it is WAY BETTER than your food. The food at Tanaka warrants 4 stars but everything else could use a lot of work, rounding the review out at 3.5 Let's talk about the good. I am usually skeptical of places that serve two types of cuisines, here Japanese and Korean. They do well in both departments. We usually get the sushi meal which is a lot of food if you're hungry. The sashimi salad bowl is well priced and delicious as well. The teriyaki bento box is all around well made lunch go-tos, plenty of food. The udon noodle bowl my kids love again well priced. I've even ordered a sushi catering platter, was a hit at the party. Where this spot falls short is in its service and the actual restaurant. Upon entering you'll get a big whiff of chlorine cleaner. At least I know it's disinfected. A bit of a turn off if dining in. Second is the cashier lady. She's no nonsense and if she gets your order wrong, it's always your fault, no attempt to correct. When i preordered my sushi platter, they had no record of the preorder when we got there to pick up... no sorry, no accommodating thoughts, essentially "sorry, your bad." Amazing pork tonkatsu!! And love the sushi (nigiri). Like to order à la carte to get the pieces I want. All super fresh, never had any fishy or bad tasting fish. Love the sake, tai, hamachi, scallop. Located in a small strip mall (next to Dunkin Donuts). When it's not busy parking is fine, but Friday late afternoon parking is crazy (even just to pick up takeout). Expect a 45min-1hour wait to pick up takeout for Friday dinner (which is fine, just plan ahead!) No issues with tree nut allergies here. read more

I just had lunch here with my wife. I had the Tanaka box and she had the bimbimbap. Our meals were top-notch. The Tanaka box had spicy tuna roll, 6 pieces of sashimi and 3 pieces of sushi. The fish was generous in size and very fresh. My wife's bimbimbap was pretty authentic and she really enjoyed it. When you walk in, there is a big menu on the wall to your left and in front of you. There is a lot to choose from. You can also order ala carte sushi/sashimi. After you order, you sit and wait for them to call your order. Avoid This Place at All Costs! I recently tried to dine in and it was hands down the worst dining experience of my life. I never write reviews even for bad service as I just won't go there again. But if I could give this place zero stars, I would. The short haired cashier who takes the orders has the absolute worst attitude. The restaurant service options on google says: Doesn't accept reservations. This means it's first come first serve with limited seating. Unless another patron comes in and demands your table and asked us to rudely move because she wants the table to sit together with her party. When we told her there's plenty of empty front window seating together she wasn't satisfied and had the cashier tell us to move. The cashier tells me this table is for larger groups instead of approaching with an apologetic attitude and requesting if we don't mind moving. The table has no sign posting it's reserved for larger groups. When we declined due to the woman's original rudeness, the cashier kept up a harassing dialogue of why we can't give up our seats since she has a bigger party. It was so unpleasant I ended up asking for a refund. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this establishment that lacks basic hospitality etiquette. read more

This family business has been around for years and the best option for good Korean food in the area. Sometimes the food quality is a bit mixed especially their galbi. We only order their galbi when we are really craving the flavor as often times it is either fatty or the pieces are tough. They do offer a wide variety of options. Seating is limited so during peak lunch/dinner times it can hard to grab a table to eat in. Takeout is a good option if you are able to call ahead. I eyes *might* have been bigger than our stomachs, but we powered through and ate our way through two bowls of miso, a spicy tuna, a Cali roll, unagi, salmon, some shrimp thing (not a fan), their signature roll (GET THIS), and what I'm going to guess was a Philly roll that tasted like the greatest ham and cheese sandwich I've had. While there we saw the rest of the table were filled with non-English speaking (or at least non-English in that atmosphere) Asian people, including an Asian mother and her young son who bowed to the table next to them before leaving. So that means it's super Asian, right? Right? Either way, I'm craving it right now and I can't wait to go back and try their mega huge bibimbop bowl. As we walked in we were greeted by a lovely young lady eagerly awaiting to take order. Since it was our first visit we grabed a pencil and menu sheet and begin our sushi and roll journey. I agree with Candice, our eyes were hungry and I was checking everything in site...LOL! I am a miso soup junkie so you know I couldn't leave without trying a bowl. Service is super fast and product is fresh. I tend to not use a soup spoon when eating miso soup, so I pick it up and slurp it quietly. I pretty much enjoyed every bit of sushi we ordered (spicy tuna, salmon, unagi and even the shrimpy nemo thing). I absolutely loved the energy Tanaka brings with their little dine in spot. Its a beautiful decor and prices are reasonable. We definitely left with a sushi coma. Amazing! Delicious! Wow! If the owner ever decided to open up a restaurant they better make it really big! This place is fairly small yet cozy. You order at the counter and then they will call out your order once its ready and you go to another counter to pick up your food. I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon and a tuna roll. The udon was Japanese comfort food! The tuna roll was excellent as well. This place was so good I came here twice in one week! It's official, I LOVE Tanaka Sushi. You just cannot beat the Tanaka box special anywhere...ANYWHERE. The fish tastes fresh and the price point is out of this world. Every time I go this place is busy with take-out or people who are dining in. The sushi chef is very friendly too and gets to making your rolls right away. My parents usually get one of their hot soups or bento boxes (I'm the only one who gets the sushi), and the hot soups are delicious too. I've even seen some diners get basic egg fried rice! Everything about this place is perfect, I cannot believe it so affordable yet is on par with all the other Japanese restaurants I have ever been to (including large metropolitan cities) whose dishes are easily 2x the price. I came back home for the holidays and there were 3 things I NEEDED in my belly Naf Naf, Portillos, and Tanaka Sushi. Stopped in for Sushi to go with my Jimmy John's #12, and was pleasantly surprised to find out they also serve Korean. I ordered the Bulgogi, extra spicy, to go. I don't know if it was because my order was to go, but I didn't get any Kimchee with my order. I hate the shredded cabbage with mayonnaise and ketchup dressing, but that is what I got. I will ask for Kimchee next time. Bulgogi was very good. Great mix of meat and onions. The seasoning could have been a bit more spicy, but they probably thought I couldn't handle the heat. I can. The Misso Soup was excellent, and I don't normally like Misso Soup. I will be back. Maybe I'll try their summer special, Neng Myoun, or maybe the Dduk Bokee. read more
