Huge sashimi bowl, hand for size
    Ariel H.

Cute family owned Japanese and Korean shop! Not a ton of seating and it fills up during meal times so come early. Clearly a neighborhood favorite and the owners know many of the guests that came in. Great prices & value. The sashimi bowl is huge. Seafood noodle (udon) had lots of seafood and the rice cake dumpling soup was light and flavorful. The katsu was crispy and had a lightly sweet creamy sauce! Cafe type of service where you order up front and pick up your food from the kitchen counter. Remember to put back your trays/dishes after you're done! Note they don't take Amex, only Visa or Mastercard.

The best place for a quick but satisfying lunch or dinner. This shop has been here for over 10 years and the chef and his family have been providing the same high quality dishes with friendly service since they opened. Great Korean set menu but my recommendation has to be their jjampong or spicy seafood noodles. Quick, clean, and great dishes, can't go wrong. FYI, closed on Sundays for those that want to order sushi party trays for the weekend.

I LOVE coming to Tanaka for Korean food! I don't often have their sushi because I love their Korean food so much. As other reviewers have stated the sashimi rice is super good and I highly recommend the seafood jjampong as well as the cod fish egg stew. The food comes out really quickly and every dish is really flavorful. Overall, I'd recommend this place with confidence, I regularly visit this place and will continue to do so.

Tanaka Sushi is locating in a strip mall and is a small restaurant that can seat about 20 people. There is no tableside service, you order at the front and pickup from the counter. There's also complimentary self-serve hot tea on the counter. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I came around 530p on a Saturday and there was a short wait for a seat, but no more than a few minutes before we got a table. By 6p, there were more spots available. Tempura $10 - You get 12 pieces with 2 of them being shrimp. The batter is just ok, and there were too many squashes and potatoes in the vegetable ratio. I prefer a variety - green beans, broccoli, etc. Both the rolls I tried were delicious! They tasted fresh and the rice was nice and chewy. It was hard to pick a favorite between the two, but the House Dragon has the advantage with the eel. --House Dragon Roll --Red Dragon Roll .|\---/| | o_o | .\_^_/..2022

I've come here quite a few times in past years, lovely little restaurant, has a couple seating options but never had any issues finding a spot. You come in and order at the front and take a seat. They'll call out your order and you pick it up at the counter. Food is served super fresh and hot. I like getting the katsu don because the dashi soaks into the katsu and rice, marrying the flavors together nicely. The way it's made just feels like home cooking. Rice is piping hot and fresh! Saba is super delicious and very well made, my mom loved this and says she'd come back for it since other places don't make it well, but this tasted fresh! In the winter they don't have water but they do have self serve tea, and the tea is super hot. It takes awhile to cool down. Wish they did have self serve water available. Overall delicious food, friendly service, and fast at making food, great place to grab a cozy meal.

Avocado Roll (6)and Spicy California Roll (6)

This place does a nice mix of Korean food and Japanese. I started with some rolls that included avocado rolls and a spicy California roll. They were delicious and I would definitely order them again. I ordered a spicy chicken dish then went ahead and said extra spicy please. It was sooooooo spicy! I'm glad they came through. It was a nice plate of food. I was sweating. I enjoyed the miso soup it came with. There were some small pieces floating in it that I wasn't sure what it was. The cabbage salad was so dry. It had a strange texture. I did like the dressing it came with. It was a little pricey but not outrageous enough to not come back. Overall this place is worth checking out.

Spicy pork is hands down the best you'll ever find in the area. Service is quick, and the girl at the cashier was very kind and friendly!

    Sashimi Party Tray

Whenever I'm in the area I always go to Tanaka sushi for their Nabe Udon. Their broth is the best udon broth I've ever had and it's ruined udon at other places for me because I can only think about how Tanaka's is better. Their tofu stew is good too, although not the typical Sundubu Jjigae you would expect so be aware of that if that's what you are wanting/expect. Their sashimi is top quality as well. Got their sashimi party platter and every piece of fish was fresh and delicious. They put lemon slices as garnish but also gives it a slight hint of lemon that's really refreshing when eating the sashimi. They were also really helpful determining the appropriate party tray size since we were looking to feed 9 people and wanted to make sure there was enough sashimi to go around. It's part of a very small strip mall and is a pretty small store so there is a lot of takeout especially now during Covid, but there are some small tables to eat in at this place. Parking right in front of the store or along the nearby storefronts. This place is family-owned as well so come support a local business with great food

    Gyoza

Had lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon. They don't have a lot of seating, and it was about half full. This is a counter service restaurant but with a full menu. I got a variety of things, and everything was tasty, but not amazing. The Tanaka tower was the best part of the meal. I would definitely order it again. The gyoza were deep fried and puffy. The tempura was light but maybe needed a little salt. The galbi marinade was less flavorful than what I've had other places. The staff is friendly, and I would go back to try other items.

Spicy tuna, California rolls, nigiri, and sashimi!
    Daniel Y.

This is the sushi you're looking for in the Western burbs of Chicago. The quality of the fish, how it's cut, the flavor of the rice, the ratio of fish to rice, and the prices are all in alignment with one another. The service is friendly. Just call or ask if you can substitute an item, if you're looking at chef's specials. I'll have to try the Korean food, but for Japanese food, this is now my go to in Naperville!

Food safety! I ordered the $27 Tanaka Box from Uber Eats and it came with a roach. Please work on your cleanliness. I opened the bag right away so it must have come from the restaurant.

I loved our AYCE Korean bbq dinner at Seocho Garden. I was craving kbbq (and not from a chain…read morerestaurant but a friendly family-owned type of establishment) with a spread of banchan and lots of red meat. We found this spot in Lisle and headed straight there. We were 2 adults doing the AYCE ($40/per person). This meal set included choice of unlimited meat, banchan, rice, fluffy egg, veggie pancake, and certain salads. Other items were à la carte like their cold noodles ($5) and lettuce to wrap your meat or kimchi jigae, if you wanted to supplement the basic set. The food was so fresh. The banchan tasted like it was made by my friend's mom (highest compliment), and the meat was delicious. We chose bulgogi, and garlic marinated beef and an unmarinated one. There is a warning that they would charge if there were too many leftovers, so we were careful not to over-indulge since we were just 2 people. I absolutely LOVED the cold noodles. The soup was slightly sweet, buckwheat noodles were so chewy as intended (I was able to eat this without cutting it out with scissors) and included a half hard-boiled egg, slice of Korean pear, and slivers of cucumber. I would come back just for this dish. I was tempted to get the kimchi jigae but knew I wouldn't have room, and also it was sweltering hot outside, in the middle of summer. The service was friendly and quick. We came on the early side, around 6pm so the place was not packed yet with larger dinner parties. Our cups were kept filled with water and we were checked on frequently; our grill was cleaned as needed. This is a spot where I'd love to bring my parents when they visit the burbs (frame of reference is that they love San Soo Gab San in North Park). On the inside of the restaurant, there were tons of 4x6 print outs of customers over the years. I loved the family-friendly aspect of Seocho Garden. They have clearly been a staple for kbbq in the community. Four shining stars. We'll be back!

However, Seocheo Garden is the closest to what I remember while living there. I find the food to be delicious and reasonable price. The service is perfect because I will admit, the button is genius instead of also being interrupted by servers. The restaurant isn't fancy but it is designed to be simple since it is about the food and having time with friends and family to talk. The all you can eat is worth the price, however, the minimum is three meats to order for the table so I found two people isn't enough since they pile on the meat. 3-4 people is perfect! I will continue to go here!

This one's building looks like a beautiful lodge. While there is an online Yelp waitlist (that goes up to 6 people), we had a party of 8 so I called the restaurant and they were happy to put my name down for a reservation. We came to celebrate my dad's birthday. We brought a cake to share, and when we arrived, our server was gracious enough to store it in the fridge until we were ready. We had 6 adults and 2 kids. Kids under a certain height (I forget the details exactly) are free. So we didn't have to pay for the little ones, and not like toddlers appreciate hot pot anyway. It was more, "how do we make sure they don't touch the pot?!" which went totally fine. It's to position the high chairs the furthest away from the knobs/hot surfaces. On our end of the table, we got the half-half broth of classic marrow and the gold cabbage marrow. The golden marrow was SO GOOD. I would get this again and again, because it's hot/sour; the flavor of pickled cabbage and the spice of Szechuan peppercorns. Our server said the spice builds over time, and it did. It was so flavorful that I barely used my dipping sauce. If you like hot/spicy and sour, choose this broth, it is DELICIOUS. The sauce station and the prepared food buffet was located in the middle-back of the dining area. It's a little packed and cozy in there, especially during the dinner rush, you may need to wait a little longer or keep an eye on the area to determine when to get out of your seat. This same area has self-service personal ice cream cups, soda, additional toppings/veggies/proteins, buffet (fried rice, fried chicken, egg rolls, fried buns) AND the sauce station. What I did love is there was a gentleman who was making balloon animals/hats/characters for sale near the front of the restaurant. He says he does this occasionally when he doesn't have other gigs like parties or weddings, etc, so my kiddo and my niece each got a cat and a bunny, respectively. This made their day! And it was nice for them not to be strapped into a high chair the whole time, and have something to entertain them. Overall, 4 shining stars! It would have been great if they had private and semi-private rooms like the Bridgeport location, but I think this wasn't possible due to their building. It looked like they took over a from a Mangia Bubala Roadhouse (Italian and Jewish fare) which took over from a Connie's Pizza. This place has gone through some changes, but it looks like Happy Lamb will be there for the long-run.
