I was disappointed with this place the first time I tried it almost a year ago and had talked myself out of trying it again....that is until this past weekend. The prices are fair as far as Bellingham food is concerned. Unfortunately, the food just does not make it that worthwhile. We ordered three dishes: Chili Chicken, Saag Paneer, and Paneer Tikka Masala. I have had all three items at a variety of restaurants, and while they may vary in flavor a bit, the core flavors are the same. That being said, these 3 did not taste anything like what I expected, which was a bit odd. They had too much or too little of certain spices and threw off the taste of the dish completely. The flavors weren't bad, but they weren't great either. I was also disappointed that the Paneer Tikka Masala had only a handful of very thin paneer slices. For a dish comprised of just paneer and sauce, there should be a solid amount of paneer provided. I don't know that I'll return again given the two average experiences I have had here. But give it another year...maybe I will? read more

First time at Tandoori Bites, and as other reviewers have stated the butter chicken is outstanding. Its not exactly what I would expect a butter chicken would look like visually, with the trademark red color, however its uniquely deep in flavor. Medium spice was perfect, bordering on hot. Seekh kabob was also excellent, as was the naan. Only dish that we didnt enjoy was the pulao which was maybe spiced with rose water. I have been here a few times over the years. The first visit, about three years ago, I wasn't blown away by the food or the service. Not that it wasn't good it just didn't stick out. My family came in about a month ago and it was amazing. From the food to our server it was memorable. The eggplant pakora is light and delicious. Disappointing! 1. on line menu says they offer lunch and dinner thalis. They don't but will tell you they do and then bring you the special of the day which is less than half a thali in terms of the variety of items served. The food is flavorless compared to the same dishes from other Indian restaurants. Are they using and reusing the same sauce or leaving it on a steam table too long or watering it down or what? The ordering process alone was a nightmare. They have a sleek, easy to use menu interface, and then absolutely no way to actually PAY WITH A CARD. Seriously. The payment options for online checkout were "Pay with cash in person", "Pay with card in person", and "Call back and pay with card on the phone". Why?! If I'm going to have to call anyways, why order online at all? When I actually do call, it takes two tries, because the first time someone answered and immediately hung up. When I get through and I ask why there is no option to pay online, the worker acted confused at why I was even asking. "Just pay over the phone", he told me, like it was 2005. Of course it takes three tries to get my CC number written down (almost as if online ordering exists for a reason). And to top it off, the worker had the audacity to ask if I wanted to tip "15% or 30%". This is for pickup, mind you. Lastly, I asked if I could make this a curbside pickup, I was told flatly no, that they were unwilling to accommodate that request. The good: I've eaten here twice, the prices are good depending on what you get. They have great lunch deals, their naan is delicious and the stuffed naan is a great deal. The tandoori chicken is excellent and the butter chicken is pretty good, but the chicken was sparce...I maybe got 8 chunks in my entire order, the rest was sauce. I really wished there was more chicken because it was very tender and good. The bad: The rice was not good. It was not aromatic at all, it was crunchy and grainy and tasted like it was reheated from the day before. I ordered take out and they forgot one of my items so I had to walk back to get it. They did make up for it with some free dessert though, which I was greatful for. Came here on my way from Vancouver to Redmond. The food itself was only OK though, at least when I went. I ordered the Aloo Gobi (potatoes and cauliflower) and a Naan. The Aloo Gobi was made very spicy (as in, it was hot). The dish was missing some basic expected flavors (tanginess of the sauce, etc) though. There was also no salt in the dish. The potatoes did not appear to be cooked completely. The naan was cooked well but did not have a completely authentic flavor. The food was not terrible, but my experience was below average. Stopped and got dinner to go last nite. Been here many times and will come again. I usually have Lamb Vindaloo, but this time I got Goat Vindaloo. It was delicious! But the one down side was there were numerous bone and bone shards in the meat. Have never had that issue with lamb. So while it is delicious, be careful when you bite into the goat chunks. Bellingham has not had good luck with Indian cuisine, so I was a bit hesitant at first. We have been several times since they opened and now remodeled. My worries have been assuaged, this is very good food at a great price. The remodel allows more intimate eating in a nicer setting. We do take out as it is close to home and fairly quick on service. My housemates wanted to buy me dinner for my birthday and asked me to choose a place. I wanted to try someplace I had never been, so I searched on Yelp and ended up at Tandoori Bites! Let me tell you, best choice for Indian Food in Bellingham I have found yet! Tandoori Bites is located in a very unassuming strip mall which might give you pause before you go in, don't worry, it is GOOD! I got 3 Star Chicken Saag which was not as spicy as I was expecting, next time I might order a 4 star and see what happens, what can I say? I like to live dangerously! We had an early dinner there was no wait, we got an order of Papadum and their Mango Chutney is to die for! I may just eat it with a spoon next time! We finished off the meal with desert, I had the rice pudding, and I do love a good rice pudding! The waitress/ owner (?) was so very accommodating and friendly. She told us that the restaurant has new owners and is now open more regularly, apparently the schedule of the place used to be unpredictable. She also told us that they will be adding a buffet soon for lunch. The prices are really great and each of us took home leftovers! I look forward to trying more of their dishes. This is the best Indian food in Bellingham. The most flavorful Indian curries, best Tikka Masala, and their Chili chicken is great. The owners are passionate and somewhat present. That said, I will probably have to stick to only going for lunch. Lunch has always been great, good service, great food. Dinner on the other hand was not a great experience. We came in the door, the server said simply "sit where ever you like." Fair enough, my wife and I sat at the only open and clean table that was available, where we waited, and waited. Only for the server to come over and tell us that our table choice was "silly" because we were only two people and we were sitting at a four top, and that we "must move, incase a bigger party comes in." OK then, we were ushered over to another table that wasn't even cleaned, and remained unclean for quite some time. We ordered everything at once, Garlic Naan, Vegetable Pakoras, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Chicken Vindaloo - Hot, and one soda. The soda didn't come until after the Pakoras (after asking for it three times). The table next to us ordered at roughly the same time, and their food came out first, which was fine, until the server gave our Vindaloo to their table instead of their Chicken Curry. Our food came out shortly after, about 45 minutes after we ordered, the Tikka Masala looked great, the Naan smelled great, but what was supposed to be Vindaloo clearly was not, no potatoes and it was bright yellow in color. No matter though, even though we voiced our concern to the server he assured us that "this is the Vindaloo, have you tried it yet?" OK, we were hungry and just wanted food at this point, the Tikka Masala was great, the Vindaloo ended up being Chicken Curry, which was good, but mild, and not the Hot Vindaloo we were craving. After we got about half way through, the server came and checked on both tables. By this time the table next to us had gotten into the hot vindaloo and realized it was the wrong dish, good food, but the wrong dish. When each table told the server that we got a wrong dish, he quickly told us both that "the kitchen screwed it up." No, the kitchen made it right, and made it very well, you screwed it up and brought it to the wrong tables, and offered no solution. He blamed it on the kitchen and walked away as if there was no problem at all. No apology, no offer to bring the correct dish. Terrible service. All that being said, we will still return for lunch because this is the best and most flavorful Indian food we have had in Bellingham, always fresh, I love the fresh ginger on each dish, adds a nice pop of flavor. We hope the service issues get worked out, this food is too good to be weighed down by poor service. read more

I ordered Seekh Kabab, and it was good actually. Only the amount of it is not pleasing if you are simi-hungry or very hungry. I also got a mango lasi, which was not what i expected. It didnt taste that great, more of a water. Their prices is a little bit high. And the service is not great at all. When i came in to the restaurant i had to sit myself and help myself to the menu, and the place was empty. After awhile, the woman who works there came out finally. She didnt seem friendly. The food took 30 min to get to my table. After i finished eating, the woman brought my check and kept coming to ask me if i am ready to pay. I decided not to get any dessert. I ordered the buttery chicken because it's mild and I was sharing it with king jr. One surprise was the amount of chicken in the buttery chicken. King jr.and I counted all of 12 half inch cubes of chicken in the pint size container of buttery chicken. For the princely price of 12.50 I'd have expected a little more chicken in my buttery chicken! A dainty dish indeed (to set before the king). Garlic naan was freshly made and delicious. Tandoori Bites is located in a throwback-to-the-80's mini strip mall complex thingie. Just look for the green rectangular sign the reads "Tandoori Bites Indian Cuisine". Congratulations, you made it! The inside is split into two sections; the smaller bar side and the slightly larger main dining area. The lighting was perfect and the minimal decor is suffice for the space. The staff was very friendly and helpful when it came to inquiries on specific dishes. We ordered the Paneer Pakoras (deep fried homemade cheese dipped in lentil paste, $7.95), Garlic Naan ($3.75), Chicken Tikka Masala (boneless chicken, marinated in yogurt, garlic, ginger, and mild Indian spices, $12.95), and the Malai Kofta Kashmiri (dumplings of fresh vegetables and cheese cooked in a mild almond and cream sauce, $9.95). Everything was SO good, cooked and seasoned perfectly. I'm getting hungry just recollecting the meal to write this review and will probably call in an order right when I'm done. Wow, it's been such a long time that I wrote a one star review that I'm actually a bit excited (I prefer my review distribution to approach Gaussian). The restaurant is located off of 32nd Street, next to the Chevron gas station. It is nestled between QQ Li and the popular Burrito King. Inside, the place is quiet and clean. There were not many customers there when I went; in fact, I was the only person there. I ordered a chicken biryani and came out 15 minutes later. Perhaps the place was trying too hard in making it good but instead messed it up. The rice was extremely soggy and mushy. My taste buds couldn't discern whether I'm eating rice or goulash... The entree was sprinkled with coconut shavings and had peanuts inside, which tasted a bit strange. The portion was large and the server was attentive. In the end, the food just tasted like something from the middle ages. Hopefully the other items are better here. read more

Amazing Indian food. You can really tell the spices they use are fresh. They brought us out some hot chai after we sat down, we didn't even order it, it was delicious. When we got the bill, I saw we weren't even charged for the tea - very nice touch. The naan is amazing! Had the tikka masala and I was very pleased with the sauce. Chicken was good - not overly amazing but not disappointing by any means. Had more than plenty to bring home as leftovers. This place will most certainly become my new go to Indian spot. read more

Called in a take out order and was told they were super busy and wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes. No problem. Gave them 40 minutes and when I got there they said just a few more minutes. Which is fine. The place looked clean and busy so that's always a good sign and they had a busy take out business too. They said my order was ready so I paid and left. When I got home I opened up the bag and I had the Butter Chicken and Saag Paneer and.... That was all. It didn't come with any rice?! For about 11 bucks each I hope it was just a mistake. Because then it would be pretty pricey. I just assumed it came with rice. I've never had Indian before where you had to ask for rice. Maybe they were so rushed they forgot? I'm not sure but I was too lazy to go back and I happened to have some rice on hand. The food was good after waiting 20 minutes for my rice to finish cooking. And I would go back and try them again but I'll check first if rice comes with it or if it's extra. read more

Wow!!! I am so sad to be writing this. My favorite Indian place has gone straight down the porcelain throne! We have been here 4 times since they did the expansion on the other side with the bar and all have been extremely disappointing. So the first time after the expansion was done we brought my dad to try Indian food for the first time. We sat on the bar side in one of the new booths. The booths were horribly uncomfortable and there were nails sticking out of the wall from the crappy construction work that was just completed. Then our waitress was running around like a chicken with her head cut off and she only had four tables and kept forgetting stuff we would ask for. The food took longer than 45 mins to come out too. I chalked it up to the new addition and also the new servers they hired and thought they just needed to work out the kinks. Second visit we get the same waitress. (Insert eye roll here). Our food came out cold and she was all over the place again and it was dead in there. Again, I convince myself it's the new servers and they are working it out. Third time and we bring our friend from out of town. It took 15 mins to be seated and 30 mins roll by and we haven't even received waters at our table!!!! We get up and walk out. By the way it wasn't busy again!! Fourth time my husband and I are dying for some potato pakoras and chicken tikka masala. There are only two other tables in the restaurant by the way and our potato pakoras come out. These used to be my favorite thing to eat and when I bit into it I wanted to violently projectile vomit!! The pakora batter was completely different. Instead of being light and crunchy like they used to be they were half cooked and the batter was thick and heavy. It wasn't even the same texture. The mint sauce that came on the side tasted like it was weeks old and didn't have the same fresh taste it used to. Then we get the chicken tikka and it's awful!!! There were 4 small pieces of chicken in the whole dish and they added a bunch of green peppers in it which were never in the dish when we first started coming here last year. The peppers ruined the dish and totally watered down the tikka. Poor service this many times and now the food tastes like frozen crap!! I don't think I will be testing this place a 5th time! This place is very nice. The people are very gentle and you feel welcomed. The food taste is inconstant. One day, we had the best Chicken Tikka and it tasted very fresh and yummy. The Nan tasted so good and freshly baked. We enjoyed it very much. We like it so much that we decided to come back the following week just to order it again. The second time it did not taste the same. Nan was OK and the food was average. I am not sure if this was because we were very hungry in the previous week or if the taste is really inconstant. Those of you who say this is the best Indian food you've ever had need to get out more. Granted, it's probably the best in Bellingham but it is absolutely no way the best I've had. I've had the lamb curry and butter chicken here and I have a few gripes about both dishes along with the service. The lamb curry wasn't bad, just alright. I feel like the curry was missing an ingredient. The dish wasn't anything special. I ordered the butter chicken... but it would've been more accurate had it been labeled tikka masala. I'm not sure why this sauce is tomato-based, but it is. Had I wanted a tomato-based curry, I would've ordered one. Both times I've eaten here was through take-out. Both times I didn't receive napkins or utensils. The reason why this place is always empty is probably because customer service is lacking. They are trying to cut costs no matter what it takes. The portions certainly reflect that. If you are at WWU and are craving Indian food, this is your best bet. But, if you cant wait and go to Cedars in Seattle or Curry Corner in Olympia then I would personally do that. Namaste, bishes. read more
