Despite the mixed reviews about the staffs rude behavior and below average food, I decided to try this place as it was late in the town with only 1 Indian restaurant. It's reasonable to expect delays on a weekend but the way the hotel staff handles orders and any requests is not acceptable. When i enquired about takeout, I was first told 30 minutes wait time by one staff and about 10 minutes later informed it will be 40 minutes minimum. Decided not to take a chance and went to next door pizza place instead as it felt they simply didn't care for how long the guest might have to wait. I saw guests waiting inside the restaurant for 30+ mins and pleading to leave without food as there was no sign of their food arriving. I am sure it's due to short staff(which is usual in such Indian/Asian restaurants )and also it being a busy weekend , but the tone and words the staff uses can be polite. read more

Wonderful food and nice staff. Loved all of the yummy sauces, all distinct flavors, typical of Indian food. Very pleased that our mountain community has a good Indian restaurant. We will be back to eat in or take out. Garlic naan. Yum. Loved the veg samosas too. We had 3 diff chicken dishes- the butter sauce, the garlic ginger sauce, and the tomato based butter sauce. Got garlic naan with chicken tikka masala. The garlic naan is wonderful and would definitely get again, but would say the chicken tikka masala is definitely not a good as other Indian places. As Oakhurst does not have many Indian food places, this could satisfy your craving. read more

Have eaten Indian food for 30+ yrs. I got naan, lamb tikka masala medium and saag paneer medium and a pint bottle of flying horse. I thought it was excellent. It was different than my regular Indian back home but very interesting and tasty. Sometimes when you order Indian moderately spicy it sacrifices taste-I did not find that to be the case at all. It was flavorful despite me ordering as moderately spicy. Highly recommend to anyone that likes Indian cuisine. read more

We were visiting Yosemite and wanted to try Indian food, so based on reviews we picked this restaurant. Sadly, had unpleasant experience with taste and service. We were given wrong takeout and when pointed out, had to wait 1hr for our order to be prepared. The restaurant seems to be more focused on customers dining-in and bothered less about getting the online order ready despite their mistake. After an hour wait, the order we received was wrong again. Our order included one non-veg and one veg curry, but we received two non-veg curries. If wondering, what's a big deal in this.... we had members who were only vegetarians. It appeared as if the restaurant was oblivious to their mistake and hoping for feedback here to be taken earnestly. read more

Great place to eat after a long day at Yosemite. If you like Indian food; this place has flavorful food in my opinion. I ordered the chicken briyani; it is a good serving size(I think it can be split to 2 people). My husband ordered the lamb curry; he said he liked it. We both had left overs. The inside was roomy and had good air circulation. The only downside was we got to the restaurant about 45 mins before closing and no one took our order for awhile. What an extraordinary experience! We are from Chicago and have eaten a lot of Indian food over the years. The food at Tandoori Express was so much better than most restaurants offer, such a wonderful surprise. The butter masala was a sumptuous blend of mild spices and sweeter than what we have at home, just delicious. The mango curry was better than anything like it we have tried at other places. Also highly recommend the sweet naan- it is great by itself and adds so much to the curries as well. The staff and servers could not have been friendlier, and service was great. The food was amazing! We just came from the mountains and followed the smell to this place. We got the samosas which were sooo tasty. The garlic naan a classic and sweet naan which I definitely recommend it real adds to the spicy savory curries we had. We got the lamb tikki Marsala the lamb was tender and it was exceptional. We also got the goat vindaloo. I have never had goat before so that threw me but it was tasty and the spicy but still fresh sauce! They were packed when we got there and they had to start turning people away. They were supper nice and even gave us free desert for having to wait. We visited this place by accident . What a surprise ! The hosts are gracious and courteous , the food is authentic indian - all items are exactly how they should be . The lassi, the paneer , the lentils ... I couldn't be more happier . No doubt , this place is better than most indian restaurants I have ever been to in usa . Hint - if you are doing the treks in Yosemite like we did , I would order in bulk takeout and keep in refrigerator . By the time u come back from 10 mile treks, it's easier to have good food in hotel room . We did this for 3 nights and can't thank Tandoori express enough ! Truly a great overall experience. Customer service was exceptionally good even though they were extremely busy. We had a party of eight without a reservation and they were able to accommodate us nicely even though it was late and right before they closed. The food was authentic and fresh tasting. Stayed in Oakhurst for the week to visit Yosemite. Was nervous about finding decent places to eat, but oh man, tandoori express did not disappoint! I'm Indian, and it's usually hard for me to find consistently good Indian food at restaurants but my boyfriend and I ate here about four times in a week, and it was delicious every time! We've tried to chicken korma, butter chicken, chicken biryani, samosas, chicken 65, and mango lassi and everything was so yummy! The chicken 65 was my favorite and the samosas were the best I've eaten at any place so far. The chicken biryani is flavorful and the chicken korma has a great texture with the addition of nuts. Definitely try it out! You won't regret it :) read more

Greeted and seated quickly. Server was courteous and attentive. Now the food, was amazing. Didnt expect a whole lot, but when it came out the portions were shareable and delicious. We had tikka masala and rogan curry along with garlic naan and veggie samosas. Was some of the best we've had but definitely the best all-around! came here last weekend and the entranceway was absolutely packed with people; some wearing masks, others not so much. it was 7pm and it took about 45 minutes from the time we ordered to getting our food, so be prepared for that if your timing is something similar to ours (and that's what they quoted us too, so no harm there and no foul -- just a datapoint) the food itself wasn't bad; the tikka masala was sweet and not overly spiced, and the samosas we're good with the sauce they provided. nothing we ordered was totally mind blowing but it all definitely hit that fatty carby protein spot after a long day of hiking, which we were all very thankful for they sent us home without part of our order but it was my fault for not checking right away (we were starving) and they were very quick to get us what was missed besides. i think overall they were just blindsided by demand this evening; their phone was ringing off the hook with a line out the door -- which is great because it's definitely a good option which looks like they're here to stay they were allowing people to dine in also, if that's what you're looking for. thanks for the food! i'm sure we'll be back in the future read more

Best Indian food I've ever had!!! my girlfriend and I had a really long day inside of Yosemite and we're starving when we came out of the mountains. I went last night to celebrate my anniversary and everything was delicious. My wife and I are so glad to have some more variety in the mountains. Food was mediocre at best, worst part was that they served us on paper plates with plastic cutlery...at that point they should just offer to go only. They seated our party of 4 right away but the host seemed like she didn't want us to be there, and brought us only two water bottles for four people. We waited for another 20 minutes for her to come back and take our order, and after she took our order, she never brought our other drinks. We had to ask one of the cooks and he brought us extra water and coke. We waited nearly an hour after ordering until all of our food came out, and it was pretty bland as far as Indian food goes. First Customer!!! Yay!!! I saw this place when I arrived Nov 17, 2020 to spend some time in Yosemite. It wasn't open until today and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Manchurian, and Garlic Naan and it was delicious and flavorful. I also love the fact they serve sparkling water. While visiting the area, we came across this restaurant. We had looked at reviews, overall proclaiming authentic and delicious Indian food, with recent reviews being incredibly low solely focused on the food quality. We were really in for a mix bag. When attempting new restaurants, especially ones with highly varies reviews, we typically will have the servers, owners, chefs, or other persons serving the restaurant to provide suggestions and some feedback. We had talked to a woman who was an absolute joy, sharing that they typically decrease heat levels due to varying pallets of the high amount of tourists here. Once we confirmed that we enjoy the heat of the cultural cuisine, we were shown some top recommendations and provided information that every dish can be customized between 3 levels of heat/spice (mild, medium, spicy)- if you do not order specifically, you will be served the assumed default of mild heat. We followed suit in the recommendations along with a few add ones simple out of curiosity or preference. The food was fabulous, filling, and a fair amount of heat (we went with medium, but would suggest spicy if you often enjoy authentic Indian food) and the sauces were perfection. The staff were caring and obviously take pride in their restaurant. I would absolutely recommend this place for a nice dinner after a hike or touring the area. read more
