Every now and then it's nice to enjoy a "fancy" takeout dinner without having to spend the time going out, and Five has become one of our favorite places to order from. The food is consistently excellent. The tagliatelle Bolognese is my absolute favorite, and my husband always orders the lasagna. Both dishes are incredibly flavorful, taste authentic, and have been consistently delicious every single time we've ordered. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five has to do with the takeout experience. One of the things that makes dining at Five so special is the warm bread with the olive tapenade that you receive at the table. Unfortunately, that isn't included with takeout orders. When ordering through DoorDash, you're also paying higher menu prices, surcharges, and delivery fees, so the overall cost ends up being more than dining in while receiving fewer of the little touches that make the restaurant feel special. I completely understand that dining in and takeout are different experiences, but I would love to see the bread and olive topping included with carryout orders, especially for the customers spending just as much (or even more) through delivery services. It's those thoughtful extras that would really set Five apart. We'll definitely continue ordering because the food is outstanding, but I hope they consider extending some of those signature dining-in perks to their takeout customers.

And then we promptly forgot to actually take the menus with us. :( This is a prix fixe menu where you have a choice for each of the courses (think DineLA style), and the menu apparently changes all the time, according to the whims of the chef (which is the most fun). We also shared a wine pairing and the sommelier was fantastic in telling us about each of the wines. Wonderful experience. Our server, Trevor, was great! We loved the pecan pie cheesecake (my partner says it's the perfect thickness - as in, it's not very thick at all, and manageable after a large meal. I also really liked the sesame crusted tuna, and the wagyu beef was amazing. My partner got a casarecce for one of the courses and she loved that. The flavors in that are super intense and really delicious. We were seated in the garden patio, and there seemed to have been an engagement party that evening, but you couldn't hear anything from the garden patio - it was very peaceful and chill. Looking forward to visiting again when we are in town! For $78 for a prix fixe menu ($62 for wine pairing), compared to LA prices, we are down!
