Staying up the street at the holiday inn express and wanted an afternoon pick me up. They recommended Tang & Java. It's a adorable roomy and clean spot tucked in a nondescript shopping area. The staff are friendly. There are coffee, teas, smoothies, homemade gelato and a variety of food options. The latte was made well. The gelato was smooth and creamy. It was also air conditioned which provided the respite needed from the valley heat outside. Would definitely recommend coming here over some corporate coffee shop. I would like to clarify my review I recently posted. My review was based on my visit to Tang and Java 1 week ago. Prior to the fires. Due to the quality of the drink I bought and the disappointing service, I have not gone back. I had gone to this cafe numerous times in the past, and although the service was lacking and the parking situation was terrible, the drink was great. But last week the drink was also bad and I had to throw it away. I'm planning on going back next week to try again. Yes! A gelato spot plus coffee and teas and food?! Dropped by this new spot but def going to be a local favorite. Staff and customer service so welcoming. So happy to have a new found fave coffee shop that has a little bit of everything. This place is special. Never seen a tea/gelato fusion, but as soon as I walked in I could tell this was gonna work. The two baristas/workers (Daniel and Marian) were super nice and helpful! They gave me samples a few gelatos and every flavor made my mouth explode with flavor it tasted so fresh and high quality. They also recommended their matcha ice latte, banana cream pudding, and ube cookie. EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. I have a nut allergy and I had a reaction from something, but nothing in their menu said anything about nuts from what I tried. Official opening won't be until April but they are fully operational now. Yes the parking can be a bit problematic but this is the valley. Coffee beans are sourced from Cafecita, a women owned and operated coffee company who work with sustainable women owned coffee farms and co-ops, and a percentage of purchases goes to support women's nonprofit organizations around the world. The owners make their own Gelato on site and are always looking to create to new flavors. What else could I ask for in a new establishment? Community involvement? Yeah, they're already plugged in. As for the coffee, I had my usual dirty Chai with oat milk. It was very creamy and the Chai was the usual flavor. I must be the only one that likes my Chai on the really spicy side. Will have to just have the espresso next time to gauge the coffee. There was a yelp check-in promotion for a small order of poffertjes, small discs of dough finished with either Dutch syrup or Nutella. Also had tastes of the Madagascar bourbon vanilla gelato (no bourbon involved so a bit disappointed but nice vanilla) and the Biscoff gelato (very good!). Love finding places like this during my travels. It's obvious that the purveyors gave lots of attention and thought to important details. Thank you Shir for taking some time to share your story! From the moment I discovered Tang and Java, I came here everyday while on break and explored all of the offerings on their menu. Diana and Sheer are amazing, truly dedicated to their craft, and they make the BEST gelato from scratch! This is the only place on our 2 week cali vacation we visited twice since we wanted to try out as many places as we could. We love that the large cup size is actually large, other places large cups are tiny. First time we went I got the ube iced latte. I wasn't sure about it since I haven't had ube before, the friendly woman working there let me try the ube gelato to get an idea of the flavor. It was really good so I went for it! My husband got the iced matcha latte with oat milk, he liked it a lot that when we came back he got that again. When I went back I needed some caffeine so I got the iced salted caramel toffee latte, really good. Prices are comparable to Starbucks prices which I'm OK with. It seems like gelato is their big thing there, they make it in house and have a cool sign in the back that says gelato lab. So many cool flavors. I need to make it back there for the third time to have that! I also tried the yummy Profiteroles which they made to order, yummy snack. I noticed in the corner they had a summer menu which I hadn't ordered from that looked really good, they should move the sign to near the register. Ambiance is cute and quiet, soft music.. love it! I love the sea salt caramel! I haven't tried anything else because it's just too good. The longer you take to drink it, the better it gets. The staff is always super nice and pretty quick. I REALLY, REALLY wanted to come on a give them 5 stars but I just can't. For the most part the place is great and MOST of the people working there are friendly. Idk why they, the main one is and older women, make it a big deal when I order a Vietnamese in a large cup.... I'm anemic and I love the extra ice to chew on when I'm done with my drink. No one, NOT ONE other employee has given me an issue about this and I've ordered it multiple times. But this lady, this lady just seems to hate it. Like I'll pay for a bigger cup, I'm not asking for extra coffee, just extra ice in a larger cup. What the big deal? That if I get a larger cup you actually have to give me the actual amount of coffee as opposed to a getting the small cup that the Vietnamese coffee comes in and only getting a fraction of the coffee? I loved this place. I was so happy to have found it and now I'm dissatisfied and disappointed. That lady just does it for me. She doesn't even have a friendly demeanor when you walk in. She always looks like she doesn't want to be there. Sad to say I won't ever come back. Update: 7/5/24 Thank you for your reply. Sadly, in all of this you have confirmed that it is about the cup. Like plenty of other small coffee shops that I've been to, none has had an issue offering a larger cup. Some even charge me for the cup, which I'm ok with paying. Not once did I say your coffee wasn't great. Your coffee is great in a small cup and in the large cup. It taste the same to me in either cup. You saying for me to bring my own cup.... No. Not once have I been asked to bring my own larger cup for ice. I like my drinks with extra extra ice and since it seems to be a problem for you to let go of that extra large cup, I don't think you deserve my business. I understand that if I'm going in for a speciality latte that I'm in for something sweet, but my Maple Oat Latte was sickeningly sweet, like I was drinking a hard candy. I felt like my teeth my might start hurting if I had more than a few sips. My partner also got a matcha latte and had a whole conversation with the cashier about how he doesn't like sweet drinks... and his touch of honey turned into something so sugar it was undrinkable. This was a nice find in the Woodland Hills area. Located right on the corner of Falbrook & Ventura, it's situated in a small strip mall with 3-4 other establishments. Definitely a possible parking nightmare if you come at the wrong time. The shop has a few tables to enjoy your dessert. It is a little bit narrow. I like that they provide samples of their gelato. From what I can remember, I think there's about 16-20 different flavors. I do think it's a little bit pricier than other places, but tbh, I haven't been to a gelato place since last year and this could be the affects of inflation. My favorite has to be the biscotti flavored gelato. It's so smooth and creamy and with a nice buttery cookie flavor to it. Reminds me of cookie butter from Coffee Bean. I ended up getting a pint to go. I also ordered the ube and cookie dough to enjoy. They were both good, but the cookie dough was pretty light in flavor. There were chunks of cookie dough which I find that it has too much sugar crystals in it. The ube really tasted like good. It wasn't too sweet, the finish wasn't as creamy/smooth as I would have like. I also tried their affogato with vanilla. The coffee was bitter, but with the vanilla, it create a good balance. Make sure you check in to Yelp so you can get 5 pcs of their poffertjes. They're like mini pancakes that are made fresh to order. Definitely a place I would like to come back to to try their other items. read more
