Always down for a malatang spot. Heard about this new spot opening, so had to try it. It's in the same plaza as Asian family market, so there's a huge parking lot. Can get busy, but it's not awful getting a spot. There was a bit of a line out the door, we waited ~20 min? The interior is super clean and pretty. The little koi river in the middle is cute. I loved the ingredient selection. There's a huge variety of meats and vegetables. Everything seemed pretty fresh which is a must. There's plenty of workers keeping each ingredient well stocked as well. I also like the variety of soups/dry mix. The one thing I was disappointed by was the lack of variety at the sauce bar. And the condiments were poorly stocked too. I opted for the chicken soup. The broth was very rich and flavorful, but it was a tad too salty. Otherwise, no issues. Got here on a Friday @ 6:30. Parking was a bi*ch. After stalking an old man out of the grocery store, I got a space. There was a line out the door and it took about 30 minutes to be allowed to get our food. The food was well presented and there was a lot of unique and common choices. Once you pay, your number is printed on your receipt and when you food is ready, it will show up on a screen. I ordered the Szechuan spicy broth. It was about 5-7 minutes and my food was ready. The broth had a thick layer of red oil and I couldn't see the broth. The flavors were good and I couldn't taste the numbing spice. Once I drank through some of the oil, I got to the broth. It was good. The decor is modern and there is a lot of fake plants. There is even a fountain down the main table of the restaurant with goldfish in them. I thought that the food was decent but there weren't as many options or the stock was low on a lot of the items. The customer service here was super friendly and helpful! There only seemed to be one gentleman working the front and although he seemed busy he was still able to provide great service which I appreciate. I was soooo happy to have found this place and that it closed late. I came here almost 10pm on a Saturday. I really appreciated how they asked you if you want regular or less sodium.. but okay here's the catch. My partners soup (the sichuan spicy) was sort of decent on seasoning.. but the oil level of it was just way too much. You can see it in my photo. Now moving on to my soup, the hot & sour one. I ordered this one less sodium, but it was extremely sour and salty. Their sauce bar everything was also salty in the ingredients, not like ygf malatang where it's not overly salty unless you add sauce. On top of the extreme sourness it was also so oily. I hope this review reach the owners to make adjustments because I was so disappointed. I enjoy sour things but it just wasn't seasoned correctly. Now moving on to the order coming out, it came out really quickly. I should've been alarmed by that. My partners food, some parts of the ingredients were not warm. Mine was just okay warm but it should be nearly boiling hot. I hate to complain but I definitely should've returned the bowls of food we had. Instead I separated my food from the soup and made it sort of bearable. After leaving & heading back home on a 20ish minute car ride, during the ride I felt sick. Right when we pulled into my neighborhood I had my partner pull over and I projectile vomited everything out. I hope they improve everything and make sure their workers are cooking the food long enough because my body rejected it so fast. I felt sick the whole night & dealt with stomach aches the following day. I'm upset because I really wanted to like this spot because it had so many options, now I don't think I'll be returning. My partner and I love Malatang so we've wanted to come here for a while. All the food was very fresh and they had a lot to choose from, probably the freshest meat, noodles, fish/meat balls at any Malatang place. However the soup was not that good, very salty which made our experience go down quite a bit. The place is self serve but the servers were very nice in helping you. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice but eveyrbting was so crammed you could only fit one person in the walkways. Overall, very good selection of ingredients but a not so tasty broth, probably would not come back. read more

Overall I think malatang is overpriced. Before you know it you pile on massive amounts of food and your meal is now $30 for mediocre soup bowl. It's a huge bowl so if two ppl can share a bowl it might be more reasonable. I'm not obsessed with malatang like some folks. It's ok and fun from time to time. Choices were plentiful, they give you a big bowl to fill. It's easy to get carried away which you find out when you weigh it. The restaurant was super clean. Staff were very attentive and cleaning up as soon as a mess. The buffet area around the food was clean. The food was delicious. 2 large bowls of soup, 2 drinks, tip came to 75.00. I brought my kids here and my 12 year old picked WAY too much stuff and ended up with a $25 bowl of soup! They boil everything until everything is cooked so the meats do tend to get overdone. There's no point in getting wagyu when it gets boiled to death! It does take some time to cook and I do like how there's a teeny tiny sauce bar but wished there was a bit more options there. I got the "tiny bit spicy" broth but it was a mouth numbing broth without the flavor so I didn't enjoy it that much. My kids got the chicken broth and both liked it a lot. If you have food allergies stay away. The buffet you use to gather the food you want cooked has been thoroughly contaminated by all the previous user's tongs. Each attendee takes ONE tong & gathers all of your food from each bowl using the same tongs. Shellfish and all?!!! When I got to the check out I about laughed in the face of the cashier who asked me if I had any food allergies before they took my bowl to the kitchen for cooking. If I did I would have aborted the mission early on, because their kitchen wouldn't fix all of the damage done. I don't know if this is against dept of health regulations for a buffet but it seems extremely risky for anyone with food allergies (the way their tong situation creates constant cross contamination across the full range of all of their food products). read more
