    Customizable malatang
    Jocelyn T.

This is an amazing place to customize a bowl of malatang. The broth is very flavorful with a peanutty base. They recommended 0.3/0.5 spice level instead of 0 or 1 and it was perfect for someone who can't handle much spice. I liked all the toppings you could choose from. I chose the tteokboki, bok choy, fish balls, glass noodles, mushrooms and sliced beef. You then weigh it and there does seem to be a 1 pound minimum for each bowl. They cooked it very fast and it was great!

Have you ever thought about trying something new for lunch/dinner? I recently visited Tanghuo Kungfu Malatang, the delightful experience, along with that, makes me excited to share it. Malatang is not only a tasty dish but also fun because you can enjoy a warm soup filled with many ingredients. It is becoming popular because of many good reasons. Imagine the simple pleasure of enjoying a tasty bowl of soup that warms you and brings you joy. The broth at Tanghuo Kungfu Malatang has an amazing flavor. Because I wanted to be careful with the spiciness, I asked for a level 1 spice when I tried it. The taste, to my complete surprise, proved that It was not particularly hot; however, a truly good kick made me genuinely smile. The flavors mixed well together, making every sip of the broth enjoyable. It felt like a completely warm hug during every chilly moment. A number of people would likely enjoy the broth, as it has wonderful flavor that is not too strong. Even if spicy food is not usually something you eat, this is a great option. One of Tanghuo Kungfu Malatang's best features is that you can customize each bowl. The experience becomes more fun when ingredients are hand-picked. There is a selection of fresh vegetables, multiple seafood options, and flavorful noodles available. Each bowl can be prepared to individual preferences by any person. Want more mushrooms? Yes, add them! Prefer extra noodles? No problem! You can make something special and just for you by creating your personal bowl. This is quite a bit more than only a meal; it is an entire experience that permits anyone to be original and savor all things anyone loves to eat.

This was my first time trying out this concept! I love the idea of being able to pick your ingredients and then picking how those ingredients would be cooked. They have two options: Hot Pot or Dry Pot. I chose the hot pot option and it did not disappoint! Also, the spice levels vary. I ordered mine at a level 3, while my friends ordered their bowls at level 2 and I was able to taste a significant difference in how spicy it was. The pricing is also extremely reasonable. I put a lot of food into my bowl, and it only came out to $19! I will definitely have to come back soon. :)

I had the stir fry, friend had the soup. Tasted awesome!!! I was surprised how flavourful the stir fry was and it's something different it came with rice surprisingly. Ordering was pretty simple ans you pick your food at the counter after your beeper beeps. Service was friendly at checkout and he cleaned our table without asking. Will be back!!!

I recently visited this cute malatang restaurant in Carrollton and had a great experience! This place has a truly special no-tipping policy. That is something unique for this place. Malatang comes in two styles. It can be made either with broth or stir-fried. We chose to try both to make a comparison, as every single one had its appeal. We picked spice level mild (#1) to know how hot it would be before we ordered something with more spice. The broth version offered ample flavor, large size, and wide-ranging comfort, differing from the stir-fried version, which featured both a satisfying wok-kissed aroma and a noticeably more intense flavor and even spicier even if we both asked for mild. I found that the amount of ingredient options was great, as there was enough variety to customize your bowl, but not too many choices, especially if you do not know much about malatang. Picking ingredients was easy because everything was clearly labeled. Because the service was both quick and efficient, the whole process was smooth. Overall, it is a great place for people trying malatang for the first time or those who already love it. I would certainly return at some point to sample a considerably hotter spice.

If my girlfriend had to pick between me and Tanghuo, I'm afraid she would probably pick the latter. We were in town for 3 days, and we went twice, that should tell you everything you need to know. The food is so good, especially the dry pot (mala xiang guo). If you like malatang, this is the place to try. No tip because it's self service, too. The pickled sweet radish also paired nicely with the malatang. Service was fast and the lady was very nice.

So yummy! You grab ingredients that you want and they cook it for you in the back. It's pay by weight and you have to get 1lb. They had a good variety of ingredients and I really liked the broth they cooked with. Very peanuty. Workers were really nice and the food came out quick. It was clean inside and there were quite a bit of people but no wait.

    Addicting every time!

Good, fresh & clean! Can't wait to come back and eat it again! Friendly staff. When you come in, wait to be seated if it's busy. If not, grab tongs and a silver bowl. Add your fillings: noodles, veggies, protein decide if you want broth or stir fry. Minimum 1lb & we can weigh our bowls as many times as we like. There is only one type of broth but we get to pick the spice level. The stir fry will be Spicier just FYI. The level 1 for the broth has a nice little kick of spice already (there is a subtle taste of peanut in the broth so if you hate that skip the broth). If you do not like spice at all opt for 0 spice. Everything was tasty and I loved that the fillings like the veggies were so fresh and crisp!!!

This build your own malatang place is super yummy. I got the soup which is a little peanuty--I do wish it was a little spicier--but would definitely return to try the dry version. I went close to closing on a Monday night so it wasn't too busy, and everything is self-service. You pick out all your ingredients then take your bowl to the counter and pay. They cook your food for you while you wait and let you know when it's ready.

Fun and Delicious experience! It's a small space but when you go in you grab your bowl and start piling on all your favorites. They charge by the pound of ingredients you choose, with a minimum of 1lb/$14.99. Since it was my first time there I wasn't sure where to start but I definitely wanted cabbage and shrimp. All the ingredients that were laid out were fresh and crisp. I got quite a bit of ingredients and handed it over to the extremely kind workers in the front. They were so sweet!! My bowl was about 24.99 and was worth every penny. The broth was rich and delicious. The meats were grilled before cooking in the broth and added extra umami taste to our bowl. My shrimp was perfectly cooked and savory. A nice hot soup with a crispy coke was the perfect scene for our group get together.

Moving from Colorado to Dallas and found this place, and it is so worth it.

Moving from Colorado to Dallas and a week later found this place so makes me feel like this is gonna be my comforting food to keep me from missing Colorado :)

Excited that another Malatang place is here in DFW. The restaurant is bright and really cute. All the silverware is self service and you have to put your tray back as well. I love being able to pick my own toppings. The toppings area is kind of small compared to the other malatang places but still has a bit of everything. The broth is good and if you are spice lover like me, definitely can get the highest level. Can't wait to see how this restaurant progresses in the coming months. It def gets pretty packed, even on a weekday.

Great place! Came here on a cold and wet Valentine's Day, pretty easy check out process, wish I knew how much it was per pound. I got the medium spice (2) it was good but I should've gotten a 1 if I wanted to taste my food at the end lol

As we were waiting, we noticed that 4-5 tables were done eating and paid their bills. All got up and left, the staff quickly cleaned the tables. The cleaned tables were empty for another 15 minutes. The lady that took our names down took a while to call the next customers. Seems like we were waiting just to wait...she sat one party down and waited another 10 minute to sit the next group... anyways, after we waited for a good 40 minutes, we were finally called to be seated. Sat down and was immediately served with water and took our order down. Time for the food review: Chicken popcorn - nice crisp and texture, but lacking flavor. Felt like it needed a dipping sauce. Pork lard rice - disappointing, bland Pork intestine with green mustard - this dish was okay.. Crispy garlic salted fish - fish was nicely fried and flavor was good. Probably the best dish so far Crispy pork chop - this is the reason why we came here.. we wanted to find a dish like May Ice cream. Unfortunately, this was a huge disappointment. The pork chop was extremely salted. From the skin to the pork itself. Walnut shrimp - this dish was foul. Who puts sprinkles on the side?! Tasted like I was eating an ice cream shop. The shrimp was also dry. Overall, not worth going and waiting. Food was lacking.

Came during the soft opening in September 2025 with excited expectations based on what we've heard, hoping to find a new go to Taiwanese spot. Unfortunately we didn't find what we were looking for. I admit this was the soft opening and things may improve, and for their sake I hope they do. Biggest issues for us were lack of flavor in the meat and multiple proteins being overcooked. The sauces they used had the flavor but it seems like the meat just wasn't given the time to marinate because the meat itself was bland. That coupled with proteins being a bit dry from being overcooked and you don't have a good combo. If they can tweak their prep process to let the meat marinate then it would solve most of the problems though. The best dish was the fried pork chop rice by far. A bit on the sweeter side so it just depends on how you like it. The bok choy it came with was basically raw though had more crunch than the pork chop. Service was also a mixed bag. The server was super nice and helped give us recs but it just seemed like they were still getting the hang of working in a restaurant. A glass of water got some food in it so the server took it away but they never brought us a new one. Again, soft opening so I give that some grace, but food has to be more on point for a new restaurant to make it. So all in all, there are definitely some kinks to work through for them. Normally I wouldn't write a review for soft opening but given that there are old reviews here plus food quality missed the mark more than I think it should've, I think people on Yelp should get a heads up.
