Our Baxi tankless (at our Long Beach, CA condo) went out and we put a claim in with our home warranty company. They sent out 4 "plumbing companies" and all said they couldn't fix the unit. They all said to replace it to the tune of $12,000!!! We then contacted Phil at Tankless Solutions who knows Baxi products and was able to take the tank (that the 4th plumber removed from our home!) to his shop and troubleshoot the unit. I can't say enough about the excellent service provided by Phil's Plumbing. However, this review is about our need for service, and Phil's effort, through a telephone conversation to save me the service and repair cost. This has happened twice, in two different situations. I called asking for service with a unit under our sink. Phil (yes, the owner) called back and I explained the problem to him. His response was something like, "Before you have to pay for the service call, try this. If not, try that. In both situations, it worked! My Navien NR210A is about 6 years old. I called on Tankless solution again since my recent repair. Robert came back to check problem with my Navien. I have very hard water. Robert went over his work from 12/15/2015. He then called Navien Tech support. It was determined by Navien that I most likely had a internal leak in my heat exchanger. Robert went thru documenting what Navien requested and they approved a New replacement tankles NPE 210A. Yesterday Robert and Alex from Tankless Solution came back with the new tankless and re-installed the new tankless. They were at my house over half the day and with Phil's recommendation I added a expansion tank. Phil is very knowledgeable on how to install tankless water heaters correctly. Our Rinnai Tankless water heater was not providing continuous hot water all of a sudden. After doing some basic maintenance myself, the problem was the same with no error codes showing. I was stomped and figured I needed to call the pros. So I called Tankless Solutions, as Mr. Phillip had previously helped me before. I left them a message, as this all happened over the weekend. Phillip called me right back and suggested we do some troubleshooting over the phone after I explained my issue. He assured me that my issue was not with my water heater but possibly a plumbing issue with one of my shower mixing valves creating a cross connection problem. He even walked me through on how to look and fix the fixture. He was right! I ended up finding the fixture causing the issue and fixed it. I'm very great full for this company and Phillip. I even offered some sort of a service fee and he didn't want to charge me either (who does that now days)! This is the one of the few certified Technician of the Eternal water heaters we could find in Southern CA. With that in mind, pick another tankless brand like Rinnai or Noritz for example so you have service options and are not held hostage by this company and their questionable charges and lack of scruples. Oh and get everything in writing regardless of what's said, because, as we found out, its easy to fall prey to a good guy attitude until the bill arrives and what's in print overrides the forgotten promise that underbid the competition. Always call to confirm they actually plan to show. More than once, the day taken off from work and set aside was wasted waiting for a no show or hours late that had to be rescheduled completely or resulted in extra time wasted on our side. Or the senior technician who could do all the troubleshooting wasn't the one sent. And if you don't live in close proximity they feel justified to charge extra and over invoice price discussed. We actually paid for a service charge on top of the written invoice. Service charges, just for showing up even if the solution is not resolved is $180. So that when the part that supposedly will fix the issue arrives that's another $180 for the first 30 minutes and then its like the wild west. With no set price to pay. Again, at their mercy, which is nonexistent. We paid and way more than necessary just to get rid of them. If, in future, we have any additional issues, we'll be buying a Rinnai or Nortiz and finding a new tankless service company., it would be cheaper and definitely less hassle. We paid more in labor than it would have cost to completely buy another brand unit and do a new installation, with another company. If you too have an eternal water heater and do decide to use this service I have no doubt that you will eventually come to what the company feels is a great solution and have your issue resolved. At least great for them money wise.... Eventually.....But at what price of time, hassle and excessive service charges? read more

I inherited a Navien tankless water heater when we purchased our current home. Almost immediately, we began having hot water problems. I called Tankless Solutions (Plumber no 5) because they were on Navien's list, and Phil came out. He was very knowledgeable and said our unit wasn't getting enough gas from the line. Also the unit was undersized for our house. He recommended replacing the unit, and running a dedicated gas line at the cost of $7,200! I asked for a breakdown of the cost, but he said he didn't do that? What? I wanted to know what he was charging for what. Doesn't everyone want a breakdown? I called Ferguson, who sells Naviens, and they said the unit I needed cost $1700-1800. So what was the other $5,000 for? Phil couldn't tell me or wouldn't tell me. Needless to say, if you have deep pockets and totally trust what he is charging you, then go for it. I had the unit replaced by my contractor with dedicated gas line for $3,265. When the power went off in our neighborhood our tankless water heater started flashing some codes, and would not work. Phil the owner of the company came out to our house within two hours and fix the problem for us. Unfortunately 1 star is the lowest rating the site allows me to give. Phil's Plumbing was the warranty plumber for my Rinnai tankless water heater. When it wouldn't start, company tech support gave me his number. Phil came out and charged $180 for 10 minutes to look at it and claim that it was my fault. He then told the company that my warranty was voided because someone crossed the wires. I had been on vacation for a month so it must have been a burglar who came in to do it. He then charged another $180 service call to install a computer board which he charged me $350 for. He also warned me that my water heater wouldn't last 5 years. That gave him the opportunity to charge me more money to descale it and put in a new filter. This water heater was 1 year old. He then ordered a gas valve from the company and told me he wanted another $180 to install it. I paid more for him than for the water heater. Now the company doesn't want to honor its warranty because of his false claims. STAY AWAY!!! read more

The owner Phil has a great crew, contacted him on Sunday evening at 11:45 pm and received as call from him at 8:05 am the next morning. Memorial day of all days, told him what the problem appeared to be over the phone and he offered to come out that very day. Told me how to trouble shoot over the phone and if that didn't work out he would send someone to my house if he couldn't make it out. Low and behold he sent me two of his BEST GUYS: PHIL H. and OSCAR. They were timely, professional, very knowledgable, effecient, clean and courteous. They went above and beyond to try and fix my existing Tankless water heater by Rinnai. When the damage proved too extensive, Phil H made some calls to Rinnai and was able to replace my entire unit that was still under warranty. So I didn't have to buy a whole new unit, thank goodness for that. Phil H also recommended a Clean Filter Media System to keep my new unit running in good condition since I live in a "Hard Water Community". I am so pleased by what they did, I wish I had them install it in the first time around. It probably would have saved me a lot of grief. My experience with Phil's Plumbing goes back to April 2016, I wasn't getting any hot water from my tankless water heater. At the time my son's family with my infant granddaughter were living with us. I was in a panic, adults can live without hot water for a day but not an infant. I called a couple of tankless repair plumbers including the business who installed the unit. Everyone said the earliest they could come out wouldn't be until the next day. Phil @ Phil's Plumbing told me you have to have hot water with an infant. He dropped his next appointment and was at my house in the next hour. He repaired and serviced my unit and I had hot water. Then in July, the hot water went out again. I called Phil's Plumbing and this time Phil P. called back. He explained where he thought the problem might be. Since they had just serviced my unit, he opined and expressed confidence that it should be working properly. He believed it was a glitch with the unit itself. After a few telephone calls back and forth and an unsuccessful reboot, Phil called the manufacturer of the unit and arranged to have them walk me through another reboot process. This reboot worked and it saved me the charge of a service call. Phil P. was patient, thoughtful and was successful in enabling me to fix and reboot the unit at no cost. Don't believe all the hype. "Philip" convinced me on the phone that he could fix anything and that he was certified and knew the machine backward and forward, blah blah blah. Having spent years doing computer trouble-shooting, I appreciated the fact that problems CAN be diagnosed if you put some effort into it and said he had spare parts and testing equipment and assured me that his $235 charge was worth it. IT WASN'T. He came out, said the pc board was probably bad, couldn't guarantee that a replacement (for $500) would work, and that we needed a new tankless for $2300. I don't think so. I bought one brand new for under $800 and installed it myself in about 2 hours, and it only took that long because the bolts that supported the old unit weren't in the exact same place as the new unit. He even admitted that replacing the unit wouldn't take much time or be much work, but that his "company" had "standard rates" that had to be adhered to. I'm not a plumber nor do I have plumbing "skills", but if you already have an installation and you're just replacing a unit, don't get ripped off by these clowns. read more

Very disappointed the flexible tubing used from the gas meter to the tankless was unprofessionally installed. It was ugly with big gaps between tubing and house making it vulnerable to damage. We asked to replace with galvanized that hugs the building & is less vulnerable. Owner blew us off when we requested him to replace the pipe as a separate job we would pay for. He was defensive of his job, suggesting neatness does not matter and quoted us a ridiculous dollar amount. We went elsewhere and got a very professional job for 25% of the cost of his quote. read more

Danny is a terrific technician working in tandem with Phil. Both helped navigate the details of my Home Warranty Insurance Company policy who ultimately is paying the bill for the services. I was so pleased with the phone discussion and allowing me to try to trouble shoot over the phone before committing to an appointment. When it turned out I determined I really did need their professional help, they made a convenient appointment time for me, called the day before to confirm, arrived on time and explained the mechanics of the tankless water heater and walked me around the house with them as we tried various faucets. Called Phil after 2 of the "top" Google plumbers came to my house and each told me that my tankless water heater needed to be replaced. The first company quoted me $2400, the second, $2200. This did not feel right, so I called Phil. He guaranteed me over the phone that he could fix the problem. I called because I am having issues(multiple error codes) with my tankless water heater(Rheem). I spoke with Phil who was super helpful in trying to determine what the problem was. He advised me it still might be under warranty. So I gave him my Make, Model & Serial #. He then called the manufacturer & found out that the part is still under warranty. He is having the part directly shipped to me, and when it arrives, he then will replace it. That saved me a initial service call of $160.00 for him to come out and diagnosis the problem. Philip is what all plumbers should aspire to be. He is responsive, professional, and does what he says he'll do. He installed my tankless water heater and put in an entire home water filter and softener. We have very hard water where we live so we chose the Nuevo filter and softener. Needless to say, that did not work well for us, and our water was still very hard. He came out and installed a new softening agent and told us to try that for a few months. After a few months, we were still having issues with our water so we bought a high-end Pelican system. This system was much more complex than the Nuevo to install as it has more parts and complexities. Philip stood behind his previous work 100% and replaced the entire system for me at no charge. I didn't even ask him to do it at no charge, he just offered because he felt bad the last system didn't work. Very few times have I ever had a person take so much pride in his work.
