I used to come to Tan's often over a span of 20 years and when the original owners ran the business. I've been here several times over the past year to give the "new" establishment a try. The staff are always friendly, there is ample parking, the shop is clean and they have a good selection of goodies. However each time I've eaten their donuts something seems off. The donuts look good but just don't taste fresh and they always leave a fatty/crisco/lard residue on the roof of my mouth. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall on Mission Ave. you have Tan's donuts. Clean little place that's kind of like an all in one. Bagels, bubble tea, smoothies, oh.. and donuts. Got a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel and it was just great. Good bagel, some melted american cheese, delish. Happy New Year! Which means donut time!! Having a donut and a warm beverage is the best way to start the new year. Tan's Donuts was open for my dire need of fresh, scrumptious donuts. Most places are closed for the New Year, which is kind of disappointing. However, Tan's came throughhh. The owner is super friendly and very attentive. Some donut shop owners are real pushy and rush you when you try to pick out your donuts. This place isn't like that. Donuts are delicious and the place is very clean. Went in last Monday to treat my toddler and it was great. The cake donuts were excellent, as were the raised glazed and chocolate covered long johns. No complaints here. This is still a neighborhood favorite. But, I have noticed the donuts are not as fresh as they once were. When Mr. Tan ran this place (for a couple decades or more) he never sold a donut that was not cooked early that same day. He would also donate the left over donuts to charities. This is an OK place now; if you need quick donuts from time to time. Be prepared with cash! They take cash only, but do have an ATM machine inside the store. When I mentioned "This is not convienant for me because I hardly ever carry cash" to the lady behind the counter. She said "we are only small business". I politely mentioned to her that I may not be back because of the cash situation. She said "no problem no problem, we have lots of customers." It seems like the owners my need to catch up with the fast pace of easy electronic commerce and a little customer service. Its OK to smile and greet your customers. Came here this morning to get a dozen doughnuts to kick off the morning for me and my family. I ordered a variety of the classics; chocolate bars, sugar bars, and glazed. I was disappointed they didn't have maple bars because those are my mom's favorite. The service was fast and the lady working was very nice.
