Loved the Buddha. It reminded me of the one in Buddakan. I came here on a Saturday. The establishment is well designed. It was just unbelievably crowded. Don't expect a quiet sit down dinner. I dined with a party of three. We sat near a birthday party of a teenager and their parents. They were very loud. I couldn't not hear my dinner guest without reading their lips or getting super close to them. My food was very tasty. I would dine here again on an off peak day. read more

Because I was not sure on the coat check policy or if they even have a coat check. I took an Uber there with just jeans and a long sleeve dress shirt. You can believe how cold I was while everyone else with heavy coats were still cold. I waited over 45 minutes before I can even ask a question to the bouncer. I asked what is the deal? I saw so many other people getting in before me. He asked, "Are by yourself with others". I replied, "just me". He said" Hold on, I be right back. I will see what I can do for you". He showed up ten minutes later (I had to stand near the bouncers because they had heat lamps above them). He explained that without reservations I wouldn't be able to get in but if I open a $150 bar tab then he can let me in. Looking at the reviews where it seem like people that are just dancing and playing hip-hop and pop and none of that EDM junk. I thought I would be able to get in as many other well-dressed blue-collar people. Nope, I was wrong. I only went here because of the recommendation of the bartender when I was asking on places to go in New York. She recommended this place and Avenue which was both of a waste of my time. Great food but a bit on the pricey side. We came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty packed for midweek. We waited about 20 mins (For 2 people) for a table as we didn't have reservations. The decor and ambience is great. The service however was pretty slow,we were seated on the top most section and there was only one waiter taking care off all those tables and he forgot our appetizers and served the main course before. He was nice enough to give us a free dessert which was also just as delish as the main-course. read more

I'll have to say the food was superb! Atmosphere excellent, but it only takes 1 employee to ruin an excellent place!!! I can't and won't complain about the food or our food servers, as they were excellent, however the door guy or security guy going into the club section of the restaurant was a coomplete arrogant piece of.... So for very special VIP guests, (meaning you probably haVe to reserve a high end table, or spend some serious bank to be a VIP) your allowed into their club through a special door in the restaurant. Haha.. we weren't those special guest, though our dinner bill came to almost 300$, I'd think it would make us somewhat special, guess not!!! Anyway, after dinner we decided to check out the club section of the restaurant which the entrance was outside on the other side of the restaurant. When we got there, a small group of people had gathered lining up to enter the club. I walked up to door guy to ask a general question. I asked what the cost was? I also explained that we had just had dinner here, he was a bit cocky snd arrogant and stated, "oh for you it's gonna be 20$ and 100$ minimum at the bar" something to that respect. I was like huh? Really? He looked at me with his cocky attitude and replied sarcastically, " yes, really"!!! So I looked at my girlfriend and said let's go baby, we're out of here!!! Went here for a work lunch meeting. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. Our waitress was very pleasant and we enjoyed our food for the most part. Ordered the chicken salad, branzino, short ribs ( don't get them) and peanut cake for dessert. After an hour back at the office, we were both experiencing discomfort (stomach aches and D). The restaurant itself is very nice and the customer service is great. I went there to have the duck. The Peking Duck was very tender and tasty. However, the menu says that it's for two but it wasn't. The average 5 year old could finish it and still want dessert afterwards. At $88 it's probably not what you would except. Beware. read more

If I could give this place zero star I would, let's start by reservation for 10 pm on Saturday night, we didn't get our table until 11 pm, the place is beautiful, nice atmosphere, ambience, the music is a DJ spinning pop music, very loud, you can only speak with the person next to you, now the best part, For the hype and type of restaurant, I had a server taking orders, She didn't even introduce herself, No explanation of the menu, tour, no specials, So that was very disappointing, so here she comes taking orders like a diner, actually in diners I can get better service, The drinks, lychee martini, literally was lychee juice, so I ordered a beer next cuz at least they don't make that, I ordered the duck for 2, comes w some pancakes in paper that if u are careful you'll eat the paper cuz the server don't tell u or warn you about it, the duck was good but for $84? I've been acquainted with Tao for quite some years now, but only with the nightlife scene. Recently I've visited the establishment to dine and I must say I have been cutting myself short. Once you get over the Asian influenced design that includes the famous Big Buddha, relaxing dim lighting but vibrant music... the menu will attract you. I usually order the Kung Pao chicken, which is the only Kung Pao chicken I enjoy. I've also had the scallops(4) which come pan seared dressed in a creamy curry sauce(note that the scallops are a very decent size). For dessert, the best thing on the menu is the lava cake that comes with salted caramel ice cream. To die for. The service is okay, I've definitely had better but it can be a packed out place(especially on the weekends). The drinks are strong so you'll definitely get your monies worth as well. read more

Went there with family and friends. Great atmosphere but the food was sub par. We ordered a round of appetizers. Potstickers, TAO salad and the lettuce wraps. Potstickers were just as good as the frozen ones you get from Costco actually the Costco ones are better. The salad well let's say you should just take a pass on that one. The lettuce wraps .... I didn't try because of the undercooked egg on top. It was like a poached sunny side up egg. Kinda a surprise for the table. The entrees came out. We had the miso Chilean sea bass and the TAO lo mein. The bass wasn't good. It tasted like eel and the lo mein wasn't anything special. Friends had the orange crispy chicken which I sampled and it tasted like your typically asian fried chicken smothered in a sweet syrup orange sauce. If you want Chinese food save your money and get it from a "China 1" or whatever your local Chinese restaurant is located in the strip center where you buy groceries, it'll taste better and you'll save $100+. read more

Do not go here. Went for my friends 21st birthday and asked the bartender with the long oval face if they did anything special for birthdays. He said "Tequila shots" and proceeded to pour us tequila shots. Only after he poured all the drinks did he say "open or close tab". He tried to make it seem like he would give the birthday girl a free shot but no. Very non transparent for a bartender. Extremely overpriced, even in NYC, and no one was friendly. They took a parties card and told them they had to spend $150 minimum. They did not do that to our party. When questioned they said "it's at the bouncers discretion." So the bouncer decides who has to pay a minimum and who doesn't? On what factors? Feels very very wrong. Not a single person working there smiles, they were very curt and rude, and when I confronted security about the bartender, he said "how old are you anyway?" I got in.. so I'm over 21? Why was me bringing up my concerns an indication of me not being of age? He then rechecked my ID. Overall, jus a terrible experience and they do not make you feel welcomed at all. read more

They made us wait 30 minutes for our reservation for four people. Which I've heard is on the lower end of waiting times. I think that's a little cheeky - especially since booking a reservation is an agreement and if you can't honor that, then you're essentially wasting my time. The place is very buzzy, but the service isn't great. It's just so busy that the servers don't notice when you need things. Never in life have I been so degraded! Last night I gathered a group of my girl friends to this venue as a favor for a friend of a friend who just started promoting Tao night club. We were promised free entry, free drinks and free coat check and for 6 single young girls in college that sounded like a deal. Instead we got insulted, left out in the freezing cold and screamed at. I was in contact with the promoter the entire night prior to our arrival and when we got there not only were we waiting in line for over 30 minutes in the cold, the bouncer was so rude and arrogant screaming in my face specifically to "GET BACK" in order to have a conversation with him. When I initially just wanted to tell him who I was there for. To add injury to insult the promoter whom I had never met before, came outside seen our group and went back inside to text my phone to say "you're with a big girl we can't let you in I'm sorry!" Mind you not one of the beautiful ladies I was with was over a size 8. So if that's considered "big" to this pathetic club they should probably wake up and realize health is more important than being a size 2!!!!!!!! As a person in the fashion industry attending fashion shows with actual models and important people who actually matter, I have never been treated with such disrespect!! If I could give zero stars i would. This incident happened last summer but as i shame my friends for going to this place for dinner tonight i feel the need to leave this review. Last year my boyfriend was to play an after party for a boat cruise at the Tao club. After the boat party, we head to Tao as he was the opening act. The manager was rude from the moment he set eyes on us. We weren't allowed into the club area yet as they were still setting up, fine. We sat at the bar with some friends and ordered about $500 worth of food and drinks, total. Once we were allowed into the club, the manager continued to treat us with the utmost disrespect, dirty looks, whispering to the girls working the floor. I finally had to say something to him as he was being very unprofessional to not just the "talent," but now paying customers. The bouncers at the door wouldn't let the other DJs playing into the club!!! And the manager had the nerve to ask my boyfriend to play longer!!!! Thankfully he'd already been paid and we were out of there within the hour. I will NEVER return to this establishment again. read more

Incredible ambiance, friendly staff, excellent service and the food was insane-so delicious. We had the vegetable spring rolls, lobster wontons (my favorite thing I ate in New York all week and it came in this broth that I ended up dipping the spring rolls in, it was heavenly) a few sushi rolls and the lobster kimchi fried rice which I never would have ordered, but my boyfriend insisted on. I'm so glad he did, it was incredible. I had a cocktail I wasn't too impressed with that had coconut and bitters, but he loved his lychee martini. The huge Buddha statue was breathtaking and since we came after a Broadway show (11 pm reservations-hysterical), the place was mostly empty and it was nice and quiet for most of the meal. Deducting one star because the bathroom was down 2 flights of steps (whew!) and a group of busboys set up camp near our table to have loud, dramatic talks about ladies when we got our entree. read more
