Arriving on campus for two weeks now, I have been to this place a couple of times already. My previous visits have been decent, but today was a pretty big turn off. I was order X89(I forgot the number that's in place of X), and I ordered strawberry green tea with boba and without ice. I got the boba fairly quickly, but here's the issue: I took a sip, and I tasted only green tea. The second sip I took was all strawberry concentrate. How do you mess that up? I can only assume that the boba was not stirred or shaked properly. Hmm. Honestly, I'm sure there are better options for boba, but 1. There are out of reach for me atm and 2. I have discount. I'll come again, but probably less often. Would be nice if there was a little more effort put into making it(I had prior experience making boba). 2.5/5. read more

I really love this TapEx, I don't know what I did before PC East opened. I use the walk to PC as a study break and the milk tea to keep me awake during a long day of class. I used to get the popcorn chicken, which was great, but I switched to the tofu snack. Both are good, and even though they're snacks it seems like really large portions. I've never had the spring rolls, but from what it seems they're well-received. I always see tons of people there, but the service is still fairly quick, especially if you're only getting a drink. It was my first time at this location yesterday and frankly, I was expecting that they would have the same taste and quality of food as the ones in Convoy and college area. But boy, was I wrong. I ordered mild and that was the hottest of the hottest. I had them to go so I cannot return them anymore. The fishballs did not taste anything like the fishballs I had at the other Tap Ex locations. Being the only boba place on the UCSD campus, this place is ALWAYS poppin! For such fast service, they make good drinks too so it's definitely talent! My student org actually had a fundraiser here and we were given the choice of getting 20% of the proceeds going to our org OR give our members an instant 5% discount (which was a little bit more of an incentive) and 15% go to us too. Aside from Panda Express, this is the only place at UCSD to get authentic Asian cuisine. With fabulous prices and even better food, I really enjoy eating at Tapex on campus! Their servings are ample and the fried chicken and boba tastes just like the fried chicken and boba I had at a night market in Taiwan. The lines are long but that's how you know this is a great place for food and drinks! I especially like their Snowball drinks which are mouthwatering. So if you're ever hungry and craving some Asian food, stop by Tapioca Express for good food for good money! read more

This is one of the most convenient and tastiest places to grab a quick snack or meal if you're on campus! The line may seem long but it always goes by super quick, and the workers are really friendly! Plus, it's open pretty late so it's perfect for late-night studying at PC. Everyone always loves the crispy chicken, and the grilled chicken steak is surprisingly really tasty! The boba drinks are decent, but the food is of very poor quality. Crispy chicken has too much batter and an uneven dispersion of flavoring. Meals are low quality and way over prices for the amount you get and the quality of food you get. read more

I was only introduced to TapEx a year and a half ago, but living on the UCSD campus, I've had my fair share of experience with this TapEx. The drinks are usually decent quality (I tend to get regular milk tea with boba or snow bubble of varying flavors), but every once in a while I'll get a pretty low quality drink. As for the food, it's not worth it at all! Last year I got calamari rings, and fish balls the previous day and I got food poisoning for the whole week. A few days ago I decided to brave a spring roll with shrimp and pork, and I don't know if this was the explicit cause, but I got some serious digestive consequences the next couple days. I haven't tried their popular "crispy chicken", but the smell just reminds me of the calamari breading and I don't find it appealing at all. The one food item that I actually enjoy and perhaps is my guilty pleasure at TapEx is their steamed pork buns. This is purely my own taste, others with more experience in the world of such food will probably think they're low quality, but hey, they don't send me to the bathroom and they taste decent. TL;DR Drinks are decent most of the time, food is overpriced and might bring severe digestive problems. AVOID SEAFOOD AT ALL COSTS!! read more

The other day my friend spilled his entire drink on the floor and even though it was his own fault lol, the staff came out and cleaned it immediately! Afterwards they gave him another drink for free! Having a Tapioca Express not only on campus, but right in the middle of it makes this place very convenient and easy to get food while heading to your next class. The crispy chicken snack is definitely enough to satisfy one's hunger, but if they want more, they can get a whole meal instead using Triton Cash. The Kendo Club at UCSD was very lucky and glad that they were able to organize a fundraising event at this Tapioca Express. The whole process for organizing the event was very easy and we would definitely like to be able to do an event like it again sometime soon :D read more

So I went back and this time asked for my mango milk tea to have half the syrup in it because last time it melted my teeth off. The cashier noted this, but when I got around to sipping it at home, it was still super strong. Stong to the point of gross. I don't know what happened. Maybe they doubled it! Also I thought I was ordering the Happy Hour milk tea but I guess I didn't, and paid full price. I didn't catch the cashier's explanation but I think he said boba isn't covered. If I wanted to make a fuss I could've changed it but having boba is why I get milk tea. My main beef was the syrup request not being met, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. I may give it one more try but otherwise I'll go to Convoy St for my next fix. read more

Honestly, the food here is as great as the service. This one worker named Haidii(?) I think gave out the best service to me this one time. She took my order and I asked her what drinks I should get. She enthusiastically listed out her favorite drinks and what add-ons I should get in my drink. It was a busy day too since this was around noon and there were a ton of people waiting in line. So I was contacted by the manager here and he apologized for the poor service and quality of food the first time I came here. He also offered me a complimentary meal which I accepted. Let me say that he is definitely one of the nicest managers I have ever met and I could tell that he was genuinely sorry for my first experience. Again, it is great when managers actually care what their customers think and try their best to improve their quality of service. This guy who goes by the name of Voldemort gave really bad service. He was impolite, looked angry, and he knock down my drink without even apologizing. I ask him where the suggestion box is and he pointed at the trash can. When I told them that I wanted to speak to the person in charge he literally laughed out loud like a maniac and threatened me with his Killing Curse. Tapioca is one of the most friendly places on campus! I love the food there! I come from Asia, and I can say that Tapioca has authentic boba and food! Personally I recommend triton milk tea with mini boba and the squid balls. read more
