I have to give them 3 stars for effort and cleanliness. Other than that, really not my place. Arriving at 12 noon (I know, wrong time to go) there were only 2 tables at the time and a party of 4 ahead of me. I ordered 2 of the Taco Thursday special as I never order this one and not sure ... and oh ... you only have the 1 choice on Thursdays and not like Tuesdays where you have more choices of meats. Not impressed with this one as it was tough and chewy. Do not remember the name, unmemorable. After the first Taco I ordered a Chicken Enchilada. Arriving quickly she stayed the plate would be hot. Well ... the little kid in me has to touch. Was only between warm and hot. More patrons were arriving and I took a bite of the Enchilada at the end. Okay hot though from past experiences it usually is not hot in the middle. And I was right, between warm and hot but not hot enough. The kitchen was starting to get busy though don't RUSH the food just to get it out, only needed a few minutes more. The Enchilada Sauce was tasting the same as last time which is ??? Service was spotty though won't get into that one. read more

Their carnitas is out of this world. I can easily say it is the best carnitas I have ever had. I could eat their carnitas tacos every day of the week. I also really like the flavor of their rice. It is one of the best I have had. Avocado salsa is delicious to add to your taco, or use as a complement to their chips. Now, the reason for the 4 stars and not 5. I have gotten the family takeout meal (20 tacos + rice, beans chips and salsa for $60) and it was amazing. The chips were fresh and some of the best I have had. That visit alone would have gotten 5 stars. However, since I had take out I dined in one evening, and the chips were overcooked and not near the quality I had experienced the first time. Also, it was a little unclear upon entering if you ordered at the counter, or sat down for service. The gentleman directed us to sit at a table as I tried to start my order. Not a problem, except he was not very attentive for the establishment not being busy. I had to ask (x2) for avocado salsa to accompany the chips, and refills took quite some time. All in all, this is a solid spot for some really delicious tacos. I just might prefer take out vs. dining in. read more

I ordered 7 tacos- ranging from the al pastor, carnitas, fish taco, and beef. Of course the order can't be complete without a side of fresh guacamole. I can't remember what I had but they were all delicious. One thing I loved was the salsa bar, which you head to for your toppings and salsa for the tacos and chips (complimentary). I'm a huge fan of cilantro, salsa, and limes on my tacos so this was perfect. Everything from start to finish was to die for. We couldn't even finish and had to take it to go. Truly a hidden gem with unlimited toppings at the salsa bar. OH LAWD. I'm drooling all over again while writing this review. read more

Great customer service, super friendly. Clean tables and floors. Have a tv. Ordered 6 tacos and was ready within 5 minutes. Parking lot is a little awkward if you have a big vehicle, small car you should be fine. Bathroom for guests only, did not go in so not sure how clean. Not a lot of shade in parking lot either and I believe first triple digit day 102 it is too hot to leave dog in car. I did not see any seating for outside. Will update once I eat my tacos. read more

This Mexican spot is pretty good relative to other ones here. Fogon in Seattle set the bar so high for me that every other Mexican spot has been "whatevs..." for me. This does not mean Taqueria Don Jose isn't good. They give you chips and you can grab your own salsa (their salsa was very good). I ordered grilled fish taco place with rice and beans. Honestly, it would have been good except the price for 2 fish tacos, rice and beans were $16. This is definitely overpriced because the fish wasn't the most amazing ones. It was slightly on the dry side although their sauce gave slight juiciness to the tacos. I got the spicy one but didn't taste any kicks. I also felt that the tortilla wasn't homemade (fell apart a little easier than usual homemade ones). If I were to review this without ever having to try Fogon in Seattle, I would have probably given this spot 5 stars. read more

I am Guessing their more busy at lunch because dinner on a weekend night we were the only people their. Food was okay, not my favorite Mexican spot but wasn't horrible. I'm not sure how I haven't rated this place before. Honestly, I'm amazed this place isn't more popular than Garcia's. It has quality food, friendly service, amazing salsa bar, and a very clean seating area. It also offers take out. Only reason I think Garcia's has an edge is location. We live close by and often eat here. Food is consistently good ! Portions are also fair, although I'm not a big eater. Never had any complaints or issues here, staff is always friendly. Head-shakingly disappointing is the phrase that best sums up tonight's experience. On the night before the holiday I thought there'd be a mad rush of customers, but when I called in our to-go order, I was told it would be ready in 10 minutes -- so, great, right? When I arrived to pick up our meals, the restaurant had about six diners eating in, and a gentleman behind me waiting to place his order. (It's important to note that they weren't real busy.) The hostess cheerfully went to get my food, but realized too late she had forgotten to ring up my drinks. I was in a hurry to get back to my husband (hard at work on a reno project at home), so I told her it was okay, skip the drinks. Despite my request, she cancelled the transaction and started over. I was a little annoyed but, fine. She then handed me two cups and told me I could serve myself at the drink machine in the back of the restaurant! She misread the look of surprise on my face, and thought she was being helpful by repeating herself a little more loudly. I was not at all comfortable leaving my bag of food at the cash register, but having no choice, walked to the back and served my drinks, looking over my shoulder every few seconds to keep an eye on it. Then, while juggling drinks, food bag, purse, she cheerfully wished me a happy holiday as I struggled to push open the door to leave. Uh, thanks. Arrived home to find no salsa had been packed (I guess I was supposed to get that too?), the complimentary chips were stale, my asada was on the tough, chewy side, and so inadequately seasoned I finally gave up on it and served it to my dog. My husband enjoyed his chicken enchilada plate, but not as much as he has elsewhere.... TDJ, some constructive advice: Please take the few moments to serve the drinks and a tiny container or two of salsa for your to-go customers. Pack them properly. Making the customers perform these services for themselves, when they're not able to stay to enjoy a leisurely meal, was surprisingly cavalier and incredibly inconvenient. When customers need to rush in to pick up a food order they reasonably expect will be packed and ready "to go" -- it's quite frustrating to be provided the least accommodation possible. Worse still is, on the tails of the subpar service, discovering that one of the meals was woefully tough and bland, pushed an already unpleasant experience over the top. Definitely not inclined to give our business again to an establishment that skimps on the most basic of services it could so easily and reasonably have provided. Every other place does, so please, step it up a bit ... and by all means, marinate and season that asada. 30-min Update: So my pup REALLY liked the asada, so to be fair, added another star. ;-) read more

Great food! Good service! Can be a little pricey but worth it! Generous amounts of food. Al pastor tacos are my favorite..I've also had the chicken hard shell tacos really good just not as much flavor as al pastor which is understandable. The green sauce at there salsa bar is a little spicy and it's so good. read more

Since my wife and I are addicted to their tacos, we rarely venture to other menu items (sometimes I can't resist a carnitas burrito, which is enough to share or have for the next day's lunch). Her fave is the asada taco, but my go-to is the al pastor. We get six assorted tacos for ~ ten bucks including tax and tip on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Good beer selection. read more

Three words: Al. Pastor. Tacos SO GOOD! Mine unfortunately did not come with any pineapple, maybe you have to ask, but regardless they were delicious! Thank you Don Jose, I just dropped in for a couple of tacos, a chile verde and an Al pastor, and they were excellent. The chili verde was tender and flavorful and spicy enough, but not overly spiced. There was lots of meat, and to tell the truth I take the two tortillas and make two tacos out of each taco and still was quite happy. The salsa bar has lots of choices and looks like they put it out and small batches. I like that. The green salsa and the salsa fresca we're tasty and nice. Now that Al pastor taco was lean and meaty and doubled into two tacos as well. I think I'll be coming back to try other things on the menu and see what else this cook can whip up.
