Finally gave this spot a try today and honestly can't believe it took me this long considering it's only about 7 minutes away from me. Ordered the flautas plate, super burrito, and torta, and every single item hit. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and made with care. The portions were solid too. One thing that really stood out was the atmosphere and service. Gerri, the owner, is a super cool and down to earth guy who was genuinely friendly with both the staff and customers. You can tell they care about the experience here. The whole team works together well and the line moves quick without making you feel rushed. Also appreciated how straightforward the menu is. Los Comales has been the staple taqueria down the street since I was a kid. I grew up eating their nachos, and they taste just as good now as an adult. The line can be a little long, especially around lunchtime, but the staff is always friendly. Even though the food might not look amazing, the flavor is always there. My go to is the veggie nachos. I've been coming here for years and didn't know the name of the place until today. I took that as a sign to finally write a review. There's something unique about the sauce on their super wet burritos (#7) and when I get a craving for it, nothing else will do. I have tried this burrito with every meat variation and they are always consistent in flavor. The size of this burrito is big enough to share or split it into 2-3 meals (my breakfast, lunch and dinner). If you time it just right, you'll beat the line out the door. read more

I love this place! I only ordered the burrito when I eat here. I usually get the red or green tortilla and I always get chips. When you think of classic California burrito this is it. I have been coming here for 13 years when burritos were $5.25. The last 3 times the burritos have been full of rice and tasteless. Best burritos in Oakland by far. Super customizable, they will let you add whatever you want (even enchilada sauce or nacho cheese). Their most popular meat is the pollo asada but their boiled chicken is also a banger. Really friendly staff and totally affordable prices! I think I've eaten here about 200 times. read more

Hole in the wall without any seating. They make the food really quickly similar to Subway as they make it as your order it. I ended up getting a super shrimp burrito which they cut in half for me with some mild salsa on the side. The burrito was pretty good as the peppers gave it a slight crunch and the rest of the burrito had a nice creamy and juicy flavor. Have been coming here a long as I can remember and have introduced people to this place. It's truly family run as the son has taken over the business. They are open less hours but the food is tried and true. The one downside is they don't offer on-line ordering and I actually think that is great. You can call in your order though. They have been offering tomatoes and spinach tortillas before they were a thing and one of the few places that off black beans as well a refried beans. My sissy requested this place since it's next to her favorite activity park to walk her dog or have lunch, and she's been here a couple of times prior. I ordered two super grilled chicken burritos with all the fixings. The burrito did not reach expectations. The meat was not as moist as it seemed behind the protective glass. The burrito wasn't made any different than any other typical burrito I can say, other than they did not melt the cheese as most taquerias do, and as I prefer. That was a bit disappointing and not satisfying. I wasn't even offered a drink to purchase with my meal. The burrito wasn't up to par with my expectations in size or satisfaction. I like how your order can be customizable, it's similar to Chipotle's style of filling in your order. You have the options laid in out in front of you and you tell them want you want inside (depending on what you get). Got 3 Carnitas Soft Tacos with added cheese and sour cream, came out to be about $10.50 ($2.50/taco). Even comes with the options of beans at no extra charge. They give you a lot of meat, which was great, until I tasted it... The meat wasn't flavored well, just plain carnitas, didn't stand out. Friends got a burrito with carne asada and a carne asada quesadilla. Seemed pretty busy, they have a lot of traffic coming in and out of the place. I prefer this location over their Montclair location (even though it's closer) because Los Comales has more options on their menu, and you can't beat their prices. There's always a line out the door, so don't come here if you're on a time crunch . To avoid the lines, call in your orders. I usually get the regular burrito, and that's more than enough for myself. Comales has been consistently great since I first ate here twenty years ago. Always the best food. You tell them exactly what you want. No surprises later when you open your take out at home. Personal favorites are the super wet burrito, smothered in enchilada sauce and cheese. This is a two meal size burrito. Also like their fresh shrimp fajitas. Shrimp is cooked when ordered. Due to new safety restrictions a counter long Plexi shield separates customers from staff. Move down the line to pay, turn right past more Plexi to pick up. This keeps customers separated. I visited during a mid afternoon period and found no line. Staff was cleaning the customer side of the Plexi. Everything was very clean. Best Mexican food in the Diamond district.
