This unassuming little red gem is barbacoa taco heaven to the T. Im born and raised in Austin and these are by far the best barbacoa tacos I've had living here! They remind me of family bbqs back in Mexico, the tacos transport your palette to another level: no fat, no grease, no BS! Did I mention she LOADS the tacos up with meat...These tacos are the bomb.com don't take my word for it and go try for yourselves! I've tried the top taco places on Yelp to my disappointment but this place is the real deal!!!

Listen...I don't get the allure of breakfast tacos. But, this morning my brain and my belly ignored that fact and I woke up craving the edible vehicle of potato and egg...and cheese. It turns out it is tough to decide which taco truck to take your business to, but fortunately my fellow yelpers were spot on about Anaya. Pros: Green salsa is "da bomb dot com"! Really it is tasty! Tacos are hefty, no skimping here Come in a nifty little to-go package The ladies are lovely Cons: Umm...they weren't free? That's all I got. and I stood in the rain to get these. Oh, $5 for two potato/egg/cheese tacos. Pretty straight forward, right? No, I don't know if the were locally sourced, organic, non-gmo, pasture raised tacos...but I'm ok with that today (because of that salsa verde!).

I read a review that said this place has really good carnitas. That was all it took for me to grab a coworker during our lunch break yesterday and drag him to this place. We passed by the place the first time because it's actually a block down from Airport on Guadalupe. It was a little after 2pm when we got there. There was still a somewhat steady stream of what looked like locals picking up tacos, so we were encouraged. I had the carnitas and my friend ordered chorizo and eggs (his fav no matter what time of day). My carnitas were good, and he said his tacos were also. We both agreed that the tacos are better at El Tacorrido on Lamar and Rundburg.

    Barbacoa and el pastor taco

Plain and simple delicious tacos. No frills, sides or unnecessary nonsense to feel like you got your moneys worth. Believe me you will without all that at this place. This place is right by my house which may be a bad thing now that I have had their food. Wow is all I can say. I had a barbacoa and el pastor taco. The lady asked me if I wantes cilantro and onions and I said yes. Fresh and amwzing toppings. I enjoyed the barbacoa more than the el pastor! Two tacos and a mexican coke made for a happy full belly and a great lunch!!!! Really inexpensive!

Seriously, try this place out. Best taco truck I've tried in Austin. Very unassuming and hidden gem.

Nice customer service. Food was typical Americanized Mexican (iceberg lettuce, cheese and beans).

Forget those uber-trendy food trucks that charge $3+ for a taco, this place is the real deal! Tripas, lenguas, chicharrones, oh my! This taco truck is parked in the parking lot of a shopping center that has various types of shops (tortilleria, money cashing, etc.). I've never seen it move - so I assume it's called this place home for quite awhile. The truck has a tented seating area where you can enjoy all the delicious goodies. Tacos are less than $2 and they are adorned with cilantro, onion, and a lime wedge -- that's how you dress a real taco! The corn tortillas are homemade and just the right thickness. The carnitas is flavorful and full of crispy bits. The barbacoa is not the best I've had, but I'm not complaining. They also have tortas, gorditas, sopes, and refreshing aguas frescas (big azz cup for $2.50!) to wash everything down. They also have two salsas: a spicy red sauce and a cilantro/avocado cream. Both do the tacos justice. Tip: You might want to brush up on your Espanol when you come here.

The best part though is that they have a whole menu and a few clustered tables that can be found filled with Mexican workers around lunch time. A testament to it being good and cheap food. Their fajitas are delicious. Seasoned with a tangy adobo that I can't pin point, but thoroughly enjoy. They sell all of their meats on dishes in tacos, burritos (just large flour tacos at this location), and gorditas. My favorite is that they also sell everything by the pound and their sides in various sizes too. You can take a whole Mexican meal with fresh tortillas home and all you have to is lay it out and enjoy. Perfect for home style take out that might be cheaper than the fast food joints. It will definitely be way way better. The food isn't brought out super fast outside of lunch, but that only means they put time into getting it out to you. Give them a try.

What's a pick-a-dilly? *scratch head* When he went on to vaguely describe something about chopped pickles mixed in a snow cone, it sounded kind of gross to me; nevertheless, I still had to try one just because I'm always up for trying something new and he kept raving about them. The little green trailer is parked in front of a laser car wash right next to a Shell/ CMart gas station on the corner of Westgate and Slaughter But don't get it confused with the other trailer in the parking lot called Bella's Tacos as they are two separate businesses. If you are driving west on Slaughter, you'll see a little sign that says "Home of the Famous Pick-A-Dilly." Top G is owned by this sweet family from the Valley who told me that is where the pick-a-dilly originated from. Talk about ultra friendly service with a smile. Maria is the super friendly mother who chatted with us and told us that all of their syrups are homemade, giving them a more authentic taste. But it doesn't stop their because they also sell roasted corn topped with all the fixings. I'll have to review it in a later post when I come back to try it. Ok, so what the heck is a pick-a-Dilly you ask? First you pick a flavor for your snow cone. Maria said that the most popular used when ordering a pickle dilly is cherry or strawberry. I went ahead and picked cherry as I thought sour cherry made more sense then sour strawberry. But then again logic is all out of the question because pickles and snow cones don't make sense together period. Or do they? Maria put a layer of the fluffy New Orleans shaved ice in the cup first then a layer of finally chopped/ minced pickles followed by another layer of shaved ice then squirted the cherry syrup, and finally topped it off with more chopped pickles, sal limón (Mexican sour salt), and a little Mexican chili powder. OH MY GOSH can we say capitol S to the O to the U to the R!!! *Whistle* It was lip puckering awesome! Man, talk about an intense sour treat! A must try at least once for people who love sour stuff. I think Maria and her son got a kick out of my reaction. The small was definitely enough for me and was super cheap at only $2. Now, if the pick-a-dilly doesn't sound like something you'll enjoy, they serve regular snow cones as well with thirty-something flavors to choose from, but if you make it out to the trailer you might as well step up to the plate and experience something unique. Way to go Top G for your entrepreneurship and marketing something one of a kind in the city of many food trailers! I'll be back!

The beef samosas were absolutely excellent crispy, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of our meal. Between the rolls, I preferred the shami kabab roll over the chicken tikka roll, though both were enjoyable. The mango lassi was decent, but not particularly memorable. The sweet lady behind the counter was incredibly kind, and it's clear that the people running this place are hardworking and passionate about what they do. We were visiting from Houston and took the food back to our hotel room for a late-night snack. We're so glad we decided to stop by! Mona's (a portmanteau of the parents names' first syllables) has a small menu of traditional offerings, from samosas, patties, parata rolls, and chutneys. The truck is helmed by Momma Mona but her twin sons run the operations and have crafted the recipes. I tried several items and it is absolutely ridiculous how delicious everything was. The samasos of potato (papa) were expertly crafted and reminded me of flautas de papa when they are done right. Crispy, flavorful, and "light" ... just perfect. The parata rolls, made from an egg based recipe, was expertly crafted; the shami kabab was filled with beef. Paired with the mint chutney, it was a great balance. The sauces were on point and varied in heat level, but nothing excessive. Sameer (sp?) explained that the sauces are a bit on the milder side to accomodate the taste palate but the spiciest version had some punch. Last but not least was the beef patty which was a stellar, absolutely phenomenal flaky pastry with their signature shredded spicy chicken. It rivaled some of the best bakery offerings I've had, the flakiness left me laughing out loud from the quality. Whenever I venture into another culture's cuisine, I can certainly tell if I like it or not, but not how rooted the dishes are. I appreciated Sameer's discussion of his families food; his mom has been in the industry for years and finally decided to venture out with her twin sons. I'm glad they did. The craziest realization was that there was likely so many drunk patrons who stumble out of Shangrila at 2:10AM likely have no idea they had some of the best Pakistani food you can find. *Shout out to Joe from Taano Beverages for the rec; he's neighbors with Mona's. Always lovely to see small business genuinely support other small businesses.

I could have ordered wrong granted the red bell pepper sauce was never added per my tastes -however I think this dish requires some tweaking.
