Overall rating 3.5- We were very excited to find another Irish restaurant/pub to try. Unfortunately, we were initially disappointed as we were waiting for possibly about 7-10 minutes to finally get seated for our 3pm reservation. Yes, I was worried being late to my reservation when I arrived 10 minutes after but no host or manager was in sight to seat us. When the host finally arrived, we were seated at nice high top by the bar and were able to look over the menu. Then after few minutes deciding what we want and conversing with the table; I noticed no server came by to take at least our drink orders. I went to find the non existent host multiple times to ask if we have a server. The host helped got us our server and we decided to order food and drinks as it was taking too long. We noticed that there was event or party areas being prepared but we felt neglected and couple tables around us. However things were starting to get okay when we got our food before our drinks? Well anyways it was a good pint and the food was delicious. Spice bag was flavor but could use more chicken for $6, Steak & eggs and chicken waffles were a hit. We came to Tara Mor to celebrate a friend's birthday. Their second floor venue was reserved for food and dancing. Our food options included their sliders, chicken tenders, Brussels sprouts, roasted carrots, bruschetta, pita and crudites, and vodka pasta. Some of the food options were done really well, especially the carrots and pasta. Some items were good but not spectacular, like the sliders. Other items were not my favorite, including the Brussels sprouts. Drinks were also available. Lots of good things that people said about the specialty cocktails, though they were a little pricey, considering NYC pricing. Good experience? Yes. Would I come back? I ate an early dinner at Tara Mor during a work trip to NYC. After a long week, the idea of a Sunday Roast was too good to pass up. I arrived at the restaurant around 4:30pm and was seated immediately without a wait. The restaurant filled up quickly though, so I do recommend making a reservation if you're wanting the peak dinner window. This review actually pains me, because on food alone this would be 5 stars; it was the service that dropped the ball. But I'll get to that later. All the food was fantastic. I started with the Irish Spice Bag and the Homemade Sausage Roll. The Irish Spice Bag is fun and flavorful and comes with a delicious curry sauce. The Sausage Roll was hearty and savory. Note: the Sausage Roll only comes with two pieces - so it's best for parties or 1 or 2. For the Sunday Roast I went with the Lamb Chops. Everything on the plate was delicious. My only complaint would be that the Yorkshire pudding was barely room temp, if not outright cold. There wasn't a ton of meat on the chops, but this is typically the case for lamb. I think next time I would try the short rib instead. Let's talk about the service. First impressions were good. The hostess was great - she was friendly and offered to store my suitcase for me. However my actual server was probably the least attentive server I've experienced in years. There was a long gap between taking my drink order and coming back for my food order. After taking my food order I didn't see him again until I got my check. And I had to flag down the host to get him to come back. I had finished eating and was sitting there for almost 45 minutes before he eventually came back. At which point he just nonchalantly dropped off my check. I actually would've been interested in dessert, but he didn't offer, and worried I would be waiting around for another hour - I didn't bother to ask. Had such a great time at Tara Mor that I stayed here from 4:30 pm until almost 8 pm. Don't worry, I ordered plenty during that time and made it worth their while. But I thought it'd be worthwhile to give you an idea on how much fun you can have at this place -- there are just so many cocktails to try, draft beers to sample and bites to eat. The interior of this bar is really upscale looking, but the prices don't match the ambiance - especially during happy hour. I was impressed with their happy hour options, especially the midtown mule made with passion fruit for just $12. I also had a pickle martini, which was everything a pickle lover could want in a martini - 10/10. Eventually, we moved on to beers - the pilsner they have on tap here is light and tasty. We also grabbed some guacamole which was fresh with hot, crispy chips, and the ricotta and toast. Service was also on point -- though at the end it was super busy and there was a bit of a wait, but if you'd seen how packed the place was by 8 pm you would've been impressed that how well the bartenders here were managing things. A great place to watch sports with a great selection of bar food and drinks. They have a great aesthetic of not just a sports bar but it's decorated nicely as well. I visited Tara Mór on a Monday evening and was greeted warmly upon entering. The vibe was casual and classy with Irish sayings adoring the walls around the room. I liked the bar area with a random door separating the seating. I am unsure of the bartenders name because he didn't offer it when I sat down. This is an NYC hidden gem. We came for dinner and wow it is an amazing upscale Irish Gastropub that also has a very scenic area for just chilling with your friends. We ate at the main dining area (also a great place for events perhaps). We were floored by a few things: a. How amazing the food was. I ordered the Sunday roast with short ribs, and it was delightful. We had a British and Irish guest and they both agreed that it was a delightful roast (although the stuffing was a bit unusual). Tara Mor, once known as Alligator Pear (not sure why they rebranded) is a great restaurant IMHO and is an ideal spot to grab a couple post-work drinks. I didn't go during their HH but I definitely would return for that. I believe I had the Fox's Revenge and it was quite good and strong. I also had the Sam Said So which tasted great but wasn't strong. For food, my friend and I shared the loaded fingerlings and the alligator sausage. Both were really good and yes what they say is true, alligator indeed tastes like chicken. I enjoyed the fingerlings more, it is quite heavy but it's tasty. The only thing I didn't like was that the bartenders were clearly arguing about something quite loudly and I just don't feel like that's appropriate. I celebrated my milestone belated birthday here. This place was previously Alligator Pear (confusing, because this name was no longer outside; it's Tara Mor now) hosted a private seated pre fixe dinner ($69) on the 2nd floor Mezz Lounge for me. It was difficult to get a hold of the Events team at first because it was during the holiday season, but I persisted. I stopped by beforehand to see the space and met the owner who gave me a tour. There was a 1 time $45 administrative fee to secure the place. After establishing this, it was smooth sailing, from figuring out the pre fixe menu, to updating the number in the party. The interior was absolutely lovely, full of elegance and beautiful touches. The whole place was spacious and classy. On the Mezz Lounge, there were 3 tables, coat rack, bar area, and pretty lighting. I chose to sit at the table farthest from the entrance, with comfortable booth seating. I had chosen the 2 course pre fixe menu ($69), which included 3 shared sides, individual entree, and 2 shared desserts. We started off with Cauliflower Gratin, Sweet Potato Fries, and Grilled Carrots. The Cauliflower Gratin was satisfyingly cheesy and well seasoned. Sweet Potato Fries were very tasty, wonderfully crispy, full of sweet potato flavor, and I'm not easily impressed when it comes to this type of fries. Grilled carrots were glazed with a slightly sweet sauce, as well as nice and soft. For my entree, I had the Lamb Chops with salad. Lamb Chops were perfectly charred, juicy, delightfully tender, and full of yummy flavor. The desserts included 7 Layer Chocolate Cake and Creme Brûlée Cheesecake with Salted Caramel Ice Cream. This was brought out with a lit candle in each one and singing of Happy Birthday. I enjoyed both. The Chocolate Cake was oh so rich, thick, decadent, sweet, but didn't have much hazelnut taste. The Creme Brûlée Cheesecake was lighter, nicely creamy, with a lovely caramelized crust. Service started off a little slow and the waitress was stressing me out about figuring out payment. It got to the point when I had to let my friend handle that part. With a group of 30 people, it took awhile for orders to get in, which cut down our time to eat and we only had the space for 3 hours. (The restaurant had a prior engagement right after and I booked a private karaoke room nearby directly following the dinner). The servers also had to collect either ID or credit card, then charged everyone individually at the end, which was also time-consuming. Besides that, the waiters were friendly and mostly helpful, with all the food coming out in a timely manner. Prices were a little on the expensive side. Overall, my party experienced a truly memorable, fun filled evening here. I would love to return in order to try the Fried Calamari, NY Strip Steak, or 30th Street Lobster Roll. read more

I had inquired about a couple different rooms and group sizes but they were so patient and sent over a lot of details and pictures to help me decide. Once I chose a room they sent the contract over and it was pretty much settled! We rented out the speakeasy and had the entire space to ourselves. The night of, Young and Tommy were our bartenders and they were phenomenal. The espresso martini here is so good - I had 3 of these LOL. We had control over the aux which was fun to be able to play our own music. They also let us bring 2 outside cakes. So many of my friends also loved the venue - we got a lot of compliments throughout the night! This was the second event I've attended at Alligator Pear (first one as an attendee). I celebrated my birthday dinner with 17 guests during the holiday season in one of their private spaces, the Oak Room. This is one of the few places in NYC that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for a semi-private or private dining experience. That's a win in my book! From the beginning, communicating with their event coordinator, Steph, was a breeze. We went through all the event details and contract fine print over email, which made everything super easy to organize. Plus, I got to visit the space beforehand to make sure it was the perfect setting for my big night. I had the option of serving my guests a prix fixe menu, but I went with family-style dining and made my menu selections a few days prior. Overall, the food and drinks were tasty, though some of the portions could've been a little bigger considering the price. The Oak Room was beautifully decorated with Christmas cheer, which was a lovely surprise. I also brought in my own decor, including balloons and flowers. I did request tapered candles, but they didn't have them on hand that day. However, the staff improvised with other candles, and honestly, it all worked out. The staff was attentive, friendly, and best of all, not overbearing. They allowed us to enjoy the celebration without interrupting our fun, which was much appreciated. They even surprised us with free champagne to celebrate our engagement. We never felt rushed and some of us even stayed behind way after the party ended to enjoy some additional drinks. A very pleasant surprise to cap off the workweek. My Skipper and I stopped by around 5:30pm last night (a Friday) for an impulsive nip; I don't recall how this even got on my radar, but I knew it had a good cocktail reputation and we were willing to risk lingering in this neighborhood to give it a shot. (In defense of the area, there ARE some random decent spots, but you have to weed through a lot of tourists and riffraff to get to them and it's almost never worth it. More often than not, I'd recommend walking five or 10 blocks south or just full-on waving the white flag and jumping on the PATH for greener pastures.) Right away, I liked that Tara Mor was busy but not overwhelmingly so; it's somehow pretty chill despite the chaos. The Skipper had gotten us a side table away from the bar, which still felt like it was in the thick of things but still set apart so we could easily hear each other. Like most Irish bars I've been to, it's pretty dark - good for resting the eyes, not so good for photo quality. So it goes. Tara Mor has a legitimately good Happy Hour for the city - a handful of cocktails for $12, and two apps for $24. That would play in the suburbs as well, for what it's worth. We took advantage of both. On the booze front, I was intrigued by the Fox's Revenge, which was not on the HH menu, but I thought the bourbon/berry vibes there were worth the few extra dollars. Honestly the weakest point of the experience, and it wasn't that bad. It had something on the bottom of the drink that almost made it mulled - I never confirmed what it was, but I'm assuming seeds from the shrubs? Unclear, but I like drinking my drinks and not eating them, so that's one I'm probably not getting again. Well mixed/made, but a little too fruity for my palate. The second drink I had was the Midtown Mule, which WAS on the HH menu. Excellent. It had an extra nip to it, which we spent a little too much time brainstorming about before deciding it was probably just a heavy ginger beer pour that I'm not upset about it. One of the better mules I've had in recent memory. What really sets this place apart for me is the food. I had a decent lunch so I wasn't even thinking about munching on anything (beyond the surprise seeds or whatever from the Fox drink) but the Skipper wanted to take advantage of the apps deal. I'm glad we did because I would 100% come back to have everything we sampled and I don't care if a nip is involved or not. We chose the Irish Curry Fries and Chicken Tenders, both of which were phenomenal items. The Skipper was initially more enthusiastic about the idea of the Curry Fries than I was, but that changed as soon as I dipped the fries - I don't think it's ever occurred to me before to mix curry and fries, but it's really not all that different from an edgy poutine. Truly awesome. And despite being one of the most pro forma, mainstream apps you can get, the Chicken Tenders were impressive - not a dish you expect to get an elevated version of, but they were cooked perfectly and their special dipping sauce (I think it was some kind of chipotle mayo maybe mixed with jalapeno?) was also really good. The service was fantastic as well, and it involved a changing of the guard in the middle, which is always potentially fraught with peril. Completely seamless and the Skipper was especially taken by the Irish accent of one of them (a huge point in NYC's favor - not unusual at all to be in an Irish bar with Irish accents. We should talk about it more.). I do think they're risking some real drama with the bathroom situation, which involves having to navigate down a flight of stairs to access. I would be stunned if drunken nutters aren't stumbling up and down those on a regular basis, but fingers crossed on that one. Neither of us ever recommends establishments in this neighborhood. Please do yourself a favor, take notes on this and don't waste 15 minutes pacing up and down the street like I did trying to find "Alligator Pear" as they decided to rebrand out of the blue. Besides that snafu, the dining experience here was great. I booked a reservation here for a double date as the other couple was visiting NYC for New Years. For drinks, I was intrigue by their Mexpresso Martini ($16). Compared to a regular espresso martini that uses vodka, the Mexpresso Martini uses tequila and I am a fan of this twist. For food, we ordered the Grilled Alligator Sausage ($19) for the table. The sausage was placed on top of mashed potatoes, mushroom demi, and pickled red onions. This is definitely a New Orleans thing which takes me back to popping Alligator Bites, but in a sausage form, which tastes a lot better, especially if you pair that bite with some of that mashed potato. The entree, I ordered the 30th St Lobster Roll ($32), which was made with Maine lobster, soaked in herb butter in a brioche bun. I don't know the significance of 30th St, but this Lobster Roll was delicious and they toasted the brioche bun to perfection. My fiancee ordered the Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon ($38), which came with wild mushroom & butternut squash risotto, grilled asparagus, and lemon butter sauce. This looked like a very filling meal and getting a few bites the salmon along with the risotto was terrific. Overall it was a very nice experience. We didn't feel rushed at all, which is a good thing as a lot of restaurants these days focus on turnovers. There's usually a server available that will come by and we would place new cocktail orders. The ambiance is a bit on the finer dining side, but they do have a full bar that occupies half of the space, which was super loud and crowded. Would come back again in the future. read more
