Only take out available and 1 table outside. They were out of the papaya salad at lunch time which was odd. The egg rolls and panang curry were just aright. Nothing too special about them. The curry did have a nice flavor but much tofu in it. The tom yum had a lot of onions but flavor too vineagrey. Order at the window and pick up at window. read more

This is it. This is the best Thai food you will get in San Jose and will even go as far as to say, South Bay. It's a cute little hole in the wall place, where the staff are so friendly, and the food is incredibly delicious. The seating area is a bit small, but we've always found a table to sit at on Friday evenings. The Pad See Ew and Pad Kee Mao that we usually order are so full of flavor! This is a solid 3.5 that could go to a 4 with a little work. Daughter got Veggie Ginger Stir Fry and an iced coffee with Boba. She said the coffee was a bit too sweet but she would probably get it again. The stir fry had nice flavors and was loaded with mushrooms. She was very happy. I got the Pad Thai with chicken - medium spicy. I could not taste any heat at all. The noodles just kind of laid there in your mouth. For what it was, it was bland. We also ordered a side of Veggie Egg Rolls - which were absolutely excellent. So the food was 4 ish. The table was "sticky" and the silverware had a "haze" to it. On Fridays we both work from home, so when the clock strikes 4:59 we leash the pupper and step outside for a walk. We usually end up in Downtown Willow Glen on Lincoln. Tonight she stopped us at Tarah Thai and said, "it's been awhile since we had Thai, should we try this?" I needed no convincing, she had me at Thai. With our dog in tow, and the temperature dropping, we decided to order take-out. I stepped into the small dining room which had four tables and saw the sign on a kiosk which said "take out orders only." I tapped the screen and navigated a fairly simple menu to order our meal. A friendly staff member breezed out of the kitchen and on her way to serve a table of diners asked, "do you have any questions I can answer?" Nope, I'm figuring it out. After ordering and using tap to pay, I stepped outside to wait for our meal to appear at the take-out window. It took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. I could see into the small kitchen and noted a few staff appearing to enjoy what they were doing. We made the trek home and unpacked our meal. At first I felt like the portions were on the modest side. Thai food is seldom known for large servings, but to be fair my eyes were bigger than my stomach. There was plenty of food. I'm sitting here typing with that good type of discomfort that comes from eating well. We had: Roti with Panang Curry sauce: at $8.95 for two pieces of roti and a small side of panang curry this was not a great value. Still, it was as good as roti can be. We enjoyed it. 3.5/5 Pad See Ew (medium heat, with Prawn and beef): this was our favorite dish. The medium heat level had a nice zing. It needed more egg, but there was a lot of prawn and the wide, flat noodles make the trip home and still maintained their integrity. 4/5 Shrimp Potted with Vermicelli (hot heat level, shrimp and pork included): the pork belly was smoked and very tasty, but there wasn't much of it. They did provide quite a few shrimp which were cooked perfectly. The vermicelli was quite dry and stuck together. The heat level on this one was a slow burner and enjoyable. 3/5 At $56.55 for two entrees, roti and a side of steamed rice this was on the expensive side for take-out which didn't involve a delivery app. I try to do take-out in person like this as much as possible because the restaurants make more money these orders than the delivery apps and it also saves me money. Thai food is not known for being cheap so it is what it is. This quick service Thai place is no threat so some of the better sit-down spots nearby, but it's convenient, tasty and so close to home that I can see it becoming a regular place for us. read more

Tarah Thai is great for takeout during the pandemic. You can order online directly from their website for takeout or thru Doordash for delivery. My husband and I enjoy the green curry, pad kee mao, and pad thai from here. We've also tried the pad see ew by accident (we made the wrong order lol)- it was ok, but we just prefer thai food that is spicy :) We usually order medium or spicy for the dishes from here. Food is served fresh, hot, and seems pretty authentic. The green curry especially is full of ingredients and has big chunks of eggplant. Prices are very reasonable here for Thai food. Good Pad See Ew, but I do wish it was more flavorful! I got Tarah Thai Kitchen delivered through Uber Eats today and the delivery was fast, with no issues. The portion size of the Pad See Ew was great and I love that it came with a lime. However, I do wish that the dish had more flavor and the chicken was a little less dry. The meats they have are seafood, chicken, and pork (no beef for some reason?) and each dish that you order typically comes with rice and a salad, if you did not order a noodle dish. We ordered the Pad Thai, the Pad See Ew, and the Basil Pork, all of which were AMAZINGLY delicious. The noodle dishes were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and texture was neither overdone or undercooked. The basil pork was very delicious as well and something that I would definitely personally recommend to others to try as a main dish. The staff here were pleasant and willing to help you choose if you are unsure what to pick. The staff is great, food comes out quick and they have a great takeout service as well if you're driving through downtown Willow Glen on your way home. My partner and I have been here twice and both times we really enjoyed ourselves. The first time we went here with the sole intention of trying out the beautifully plated pineapple fried rice. It did not disappoint and we got a few other things as well that were delicious. A big plus is that they have an outdoor patio attached to the side walk and it is very nice. Especially on a hot summer day. This time we went we sat inside and we each got something different. I love Thai yellow curry and it was delicious, I got the chicken option and it was an absolute delight. We also got the shrimp egg rolls and they were so good. Scrumptious with a crunch! I'm pretty sure that I've had a good experience here before, but we had a pretty disappointing takeout meal today. The Basil Chicken was okay, but a third of the container was empty, leaving a pool a liquid on one side. The rice was overcooked and mushy too. We ordered the Pad Kee Mao hot, but there wasn't a single piece of chili in there. There wasn't much meat or vegetables either, just a bunch of clumped noodles. We tossed most of it. Stumbled across this place when the sushi restaurant down the street was closed for the holidays. The ordering system was easy but they don't send you a text when the food is ready. I got the pad see ew with medium spicy and there was definitely a kick. I'm not sure why they don't have a mild option so be careful if you can't really handle spicy food. The staff are very friendly too, which is a big plus. There are thai restaurants that are located much closer to where we live (South SJ), but this is worth the drive. The Masaman Curry and Panang Curry are pretty good. Pad Thai ( Gluten free sauce) also good. Medium is the perfect amount of spice for me. You could feel the heat but it didn't overwhelm or make you suffer as you keep eating. But 3 stars because 1) the Mango sticky rice was missing and 2) someone made the *conscious decision* that it would be acceptable to substitute it with Egg rolls. My family ordered about 7 dishes and when we got home we noticed one of the dishes was replaced with a yellow curry. I was hesitant to try this place but for the wrong reasons. We had passed by a few times and would do a double take because the aroma was mesmerizing through a cloth face mask. Many years ago, our absolute favorite place to eat used to be housed here (Stumpy's). So when we would see a new restaurant here, we would sadly keep walking. Today we decided to give it a shot and just ordered some chicken pad see ew so we can try it out. Later we regretted not ordering more because it was delicious.
