Tarbell's is by far our favorite place to be in Phoenix. It is the best spot for a date night or dinner with close friends. The food, drinks, service, and ambiance are consistently spectacular. You truly feel like a VIP every time you eat here. Whether you choose inside or the patio, the atmosphere is calm and the wait staff are attentive and kind. The food menu changes intermittently, but we have yet to be disappointed after trying almost the entire menu. Couldn't recommend this place more! PS Please bring back the hamachi crudo read more

We were very disappointed with our experience at Tarbell. The tables are packed so closely together that both our waiter and the person seated behind me repeatedly bumped into my chair throughout the evening. We waited about 90 minutes for our food, and after asking for an update, the manager apologized and told us our meals were being plated. Unfortunately, it took another 30 minutes before they arrived. The chicken fennel sausage pizza was extremely salty. I could only eat a few bites. The chicken entree and was decent and about what you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber, but the Scotch beef was terrible and a huge disappointment. This was our second visit, and unfortunately it will be our last. read more

Wonderful dinner, this was my first time here for AZ restaurant week. Very friendly and accommodating staff. I had their signature restaurant week drink. I was skeptical of the ginger the drink but it was perfect. I started with the ceviche. Honestly this was the best ceviche I've had. I then had the beef entree and it was great reminded me of short rib. The finish was the chocolate dessert. Wonderful but rich enough I had to eat it slow and only could eat half. The rest went with me home. My only issue here was it seemed loud and it wasn't that busy. I'm not sure if it's the acoustics in there. I had trouble hearing the person sitting next to me. read more

I'm embarrassed to say after being on my list for far far too long, we finally just tried Tarbell's for the first time. Our service was exceptional. I drink a ton of water and my glass never got even half empty before being refilled. We had escargot and the flavor was wonderful. Then we ordered the seabass special, the ravioli and green beans as our main. When our server came to check on us I was honest that while our seabass was AMAZING, our ravioli was tough. The manager Andrew went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and happy. Even insisted we try the gnocchi which was also incredible. The flavor and texture were rich and heavenly. We also had the cheesecake and chocolate cake for dessert. Both were great, but that cheesecake will be a tough one to beat the rosemary caramel and creaminess of the cheesecake were INCREDIBLE. We felt welcomed and well taken care of. For the bad new: Your wine list, while impressive, isn't approachable. We were excited to select a nice bottle of wine to go with our dinner. And while we enjoyed the Caymus, it was the only moderately priced bottle at $80. Everything else on your wine list is double, triple the price. Why wouldn't you have some whites and lighter reds at a similar price point? I may have thought I was out of my league dining here but a glance around a nearly full dining room revealed we were the only table with a bottle of wine. I love wine. This restaurant was on my bucket list for quite some time. My husband made reservations for Valentine's Day. I do wonder if our less than pleasant experience was due to the busy Valentine's Holiday. Since it was early and we had a long night ahead of us I opted for a mocktail. I believe it was called a hibiscus refresher. It was probably the best thing that I had at the restaurant. For our first course, we had the Pulled to Order Mozzarella (gf) with local organic tomatoes and basil pesto. The texture was a bit grainy, and the mozzarella was very salty. For dinner I had the Wagyu Filet Tips* (gf) with Italian gravy, polenta and roasted vegetables. Once again, my dish was very salty and the vegetables were not al dente. The best culinary experience we have had in a long time - from exceptionally superior service (glasses were never empty, table cleaned) to beautiful environment, but the food was exquisite - 100 out of 5!!! Be sure to visit for special occasions. We celebrated Mother's Day early, but we saw a prom date, Anniversary and Birthday celebrations too. The service started with bread service and water. We ordered Tarbell's wine. We started with the chicken fennel sausage pizza - the crust was perfect and the spice level phenomenal. Plus, we had carpaccio - thinly sliced beef with arugula and a crushini- wonderful. The beef melted in your mouth. We each had a different main course; all were superb. We highly recommend every meal (see pictures). We ended with two desserts. This was an exemplary experience. Had a Father's Day dinner here, the restaurant has an upscale ambiance so dress appropriately. We ordered the caviar to begin, could not recommend more. For the entree I had the Spicy Angel Hair Pasta. The flavor profile of the dish was well balanced. I would return to try some of the other dishes on the menu. Great white table setup inside and a large bar. They had some really good old fashions and wine selections. We had a large group of 10 and they treated us well. Everyone really seemed to enjoy their meals and the service. I got the steak with fries and the steak was very tender and cooked well. I was excited to try Tarbell's as a somewhat regular viewer of Check Please Arizona (and having tried many restaurants that have been on the show). I was curious to see how Mark the host's own establishment would measure up to the many excellent places that have been featured on the show. The menu prices definitely made the splurge range for us, so we came here for as a fancy birthday celebration. We came with a reservation on a Sunday night, and it was pretty sparsely occupied inside, yet they seated us at a strange corner table. We had to ask to be moved because decided the setup was too awkward for the number in our party (and of course this was after a difficult scoot into the back center spot in the booth). So that wasn't a great start. We were a little bit aghast at the prices of wine by the glass. The "cheapest" options approached $20/glass; there were maybe 1-2 around $16? Let's say you have two people drinking two glasses each, plus tax and the percentage servers expect as tips these days, you do the math, yikes! There was some excellent bread with I think basil olive oil to start off. For dinner, nothing jumped at me and not being super hungry I didn't want to commit to an expensive fish dish (what I would typically choose) that doesn't lend itself well to leftovers. So I chose the hand cut ribbon pasta with chicken sausage in parmesan broth - since I don't eat pork or beef, I was excited to have a dish like this be an option for me. When it first arrived, it looked really good and I thought maybe I would actually finish the whole thing. As I got into it, the sauce was much richer than I had anticipated, and had I not known it was chicken sausage, I never would have guessed. It was greasy like pork. I started to notice my stomach feeling off. Was there pork casing, perhaps? I know that's a risk, and I probably should have asked, but the thing is I didn't really know what else to order so I just wanted this to work out. The pasta itself was fantastic and fun to eat. I took a good amount home thinking this should save pretty well, but my stomach continued to feel bad the entire next day and I wanted nothing to do with this dish again. After our entrees, they delivered us a GENEROUS caramel Happy Birthday cheesecake dessert. It was pretty delicious albeit a little too sweet (although this could be influenced by my questionable stomach). More than enough for the 3 of us to share after not-so-light dinners. I did really like how upscale the place felt. I had tried to dress nicely but especially later on there were some diners that came in dressed really fine that I actually felt a bit drabby! However since it wasn't a really busy night I'm not sure what is typical. All in all, this place would maybe be worth another try if there became a menu option that really appealed to me. I feel like it has at least 4 star potential had it had the right dish for me. Just with the prices and so many other solid establishments in this part of town, I don't know for sure I'd want to take the chance. read more

Absolutely delicious food and great service in a elegant/modern dining setting! I recently had dinner here with some colleagues. This location was recommended to us, by a few folks that live in the area or visit frequently. I 100% know why. Staff greeted us as we walked in the door, with big smiles and a gentle hello. It was like visiting a friends house. They verified our reservation (which I highly recommend) and took us to our table. As we walked to the table the other staff members also greeted us with "Hellos" and smiles as we walked by. So incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were brought fresh glasses of water menus within seconds of sitting down and our drink orders were taken. While we waited for our drinks we were brought delicious bread. We enjoyed the bread while perusing the menu. The menu is not pages and pages, in fact it is well thought out and curated to over special meals that all read like a chef special. I can speak for our table that all were wowed by their meals. I ended up with the 4 day bolognese which was absolutely incredible. and I was "sold" on the add on of a 10oz meatball. It did not disappoint. the pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was flavorful, not greasy, it was thick and stuck to the pasta. SOOOO GOOD!! The meatball was incredible. Tender flavorful and hearty. I couldn't finish my food, it was just so much, I wish I lived locally as I would have taken it home for next day leftovers. The service was so very attentive and offered suggestions for drink and food to my colleagues. Great recommendations that went over well and didn't seem forced. The chef came by to check on us. and The owner came by to check on us and chat for a bit. He was very engaged and walked to each table. Such a friendly atmosphere. I 1000% recommend this restaurant. Had a great dinner last night celebrating our anniversary at Tarbell's! We had a great server who was very personable and took the time to ask both of our names. He went above and beyond and brought out the grilled peaches and ricotta for us to try to start as a gesture from himself and Tarbell's. The peaches were so fresh and paired perfectly with the prosciutto and ricotta. It was a nice light dish to start our meal. For entrees, I had the blue crab gnocchi and my boyfriend had the moon river ribeye. My gnocchi had so much flavor with the sweet corn, light sauce, and crab. Such a great summer dish! I failed to get a picture of the ribeye, but it was also very flavorful. On the side, we tried some Mac n cheese which was super rich and creamy. It probably could've been a meal on its own! Last, we enjoyed the cheesecake for dessert. I was super impressed with Tarbell's. For a Friday night it was a bit quiet and I'm surprised considering how great everything was. I had the pleasure of dining at Tarbell's at the end of January to celebrate my birthday with friends. There were about 8 of us and, having made a reservation beforehand, I was calling to confirm and was offered the private room for my party at no extra charge. Getting there was fairly straightforward but parking is limited so definitely plan to valet (it's free + tip) if heading towards the restaurant at night. Even before you walk in you are greeted by friendly staff and, upon entrance, you meet the dim lit cozy vibes of the restaurant. The bar looked big and beautiful but I only got a glimpse as we were seated promptly at our reservation time. Our wait staff was perfect, just the right amount of attentiveness and knowledge about the menu. They even have a sommelier on staff who floats amongst the tables offering wine suggestions based of your mood and meal. Food wise, everything is delicious. We ordered the shishito peppers, calamari, and hamachi crudo appetizers. The hamachi was another level of excellence; it was cut a little thicker with a creamy wasabi base and assorted toppings. By far the best hamachi I have had, so light and creamy delicious. Fresh house bread and dipping oil are available on the table and can be requested more as needed. For my main I ordered the bolognese with a giant meatball add-on, WOW was this so good!!! The fresh housemate pasta, melt in your mouth meatball...to die for! Many others in the group ordered the Scotch Beef (a somewhat house specialty) and they absolutely loved it. It was all quiet when the food arrived, that says something for our loud group! Dessert wise, I was more than shocked at what they brought for the birthday dessert. I was fully expecting a tiny little something enough for maybe 3 bites but, to everyone's surprise, our server brought out 3 full size desserts for our party! We enjoyed the cheesecake, chocolate moose, and profiteroles...all sooooooo good. The chocolate moose and profiteroles were my favorite and, fair warning, they are huge. Overall there were absolutely no complaints and for the price of the meal, it's almost a steal for the quality/quantity/excellence of service received. 10/10 recommend and I look forward to the next time I am able to visit. Great, prompt , friendly service The roast chicken was amazing. The mashed potatoes I could have kept on eating. The chicken was roasted to perfection When I saw the size of the meatball I laughed. It was huge. Tasty The beef carpaccio was pretty good. I loved the hint of lemon in the greens. The bread served with it was okay. The disappointment of the night was the cheesecake. The cheesecake itself was amazing the rosemary infused caramel sauce was the big let down. I have had this before so I know what it is meant to taste like. We shared this dessert. I would have sent it back except the group I was with had tucked into by the time I took a bite. The caramel sauce was burnt. Rather than tasting rosemary and caramel notes there was the bite of a sauce that has been on the burner to long. I love this cheesecake so I was truly disappointed read more

So it was bad. I hate to write his but we had abysmal service. After apps came out we waited and waited and waited, about 30 minutes. Finally server comes over and says we know it's taking long, sorry. At this point the table next to us who sat down 20 minutes after us has already turned. Then manager comes back 7 minutes later apologizing. But still no food. Finally, mgr comes back offers us complimentary wine, ok nice touch. About an hour after we ordered we receive our food. Food arrives, waiter asks is everything ok, I didn't have the heart to tell him the arrincini (spelling) was ice cold and my sea bass was lick a salt lick. I would give it another shot given the reviews but at those prices, it should not be a gamble. Oh by the way they did comp our meal in full, so I have to give them props for that. read more

Went to visit friends in the Phoenix area and we all went to Tarbell's for dinner. He said he had seen an episode of Check Please and said it looked good. The fish was very fresh and the wine list is amazing. The waitress was fantastic, but a guy who kept stopping by was a little stiff. A smile goes a long way. Our friend could not decide between the thai noodle and the mussels, so they offered to split the 2 and do a half/half, which was very kind. He loved both of them. The scallops came with a side of agnolotti which contains eggs and I'm allergic. So the waitress said I could have the same side as the seabass special which was sweet potato and spinach puree. Delicious. If we're ever back in the Phoenix area we will definitely go back. read more

It was pretty busy on a Friday night at 7:30pm, but they were able to get us sat pretty quickly. The service was amazing! Super attentive staff. Everything we had was so delicious! In fact, I only got pictures of a few items because I was too busy eating!! But, for appetizers we had the mozzarella, mussels, shrimp tempura. All were sooo yummy. Around the table for dinner we had clam chowder, salmon, Scottish beef, scallops, filet mignon. Everyone loved their dinner, but the filet mignon was ridiculous. It literally disintegrated in your mouth. For desert they brought the birthday kid a cheesecake and OMG. The BEST cheesecake I have ever eaten in my LIFE! I can't say enough about this amazing restaurant. It was recommended to us by the resort we were staying at in Camelback. The food was homemade and amazing and some of the best we've ever had. In addition we ordered a bottle of Niner, which is an excellent Paso Robles wine and a bargain at $70 per bottle The staff there were super friendly and volunteered the number of years they have been working there: 8 years 10 years 33 years. Had a beautiful evening celebrating our 23rd wedding anniversary last night, thanks to the warmth of the staff, the excellent quality of our entrees, and the lovely, cozy setting. Our server pulled out all the stops, including a complimentary dessert-to-go with a special message! The manager came to our table twice, and we really enjoyed chatting with him. My favorite part of the whole evening was that every member of the crew made us feel like we were joining them as family. They were so welcoming and accommodating and it truly felt like we were long time regulars at a mom and pop favorite, with the elegance of an upscale dining experience. My husband ordered the ribeye and he said it was the best steak he's ever had. He raved about the wild mushrooms and vegetables... kept talking about how they were perfectly cooked and seasoned.
