After hearing everyone rave about this place, I decided to come on a Saturday morning before 9am. There's quite a bit of street parking and if not you can probably park in the Ralph's lot. The store was not busy when we went and I was super excited to see such a beautiful presentation of pastries. We decided on a butter croissant, pain au chocolate and a couple of sandwiches. When my food arrived it was terribly underwhelming/ sad. The sandwich had one carrot and a super burnt sandwich lol. How could they serve this? This place is inconsistent and pricey. First time i got the Vegetable Quiche, coffee and a few items to try at home - Vegetable Scone and a cookie. I asked if the quiche could be heated. It was still cold when I got it. For the most part it was delicious until i got to the crust which was chewy and I could not break it sorry my metal fork so totally unpleasant. The cookie was okay and the vegetable scone was great. Next time I got two vegetable scones to go and a small iced tea. The iced tea is tiny and cost $4.75. Totally overpriced for an underwhelming drink. I had the scones later and they were very salty. For the price I expected better. read more

Came here for lunch with friends on a random Tuesday. I wasn't exactly sure how to order, since there was both a menu and grab and go. I ended up doing grab and go for their Tuna salad sandwich, which was fantastic. Their snack/pastries were really good too. I like that you can pick up loaves of bread as well. I also tried their special apple juice which was amazing, serve it over ice and it's perfect. We ate outside on their patio (only space to eat) which was nice since it's beneath a tree and you can have silverware or disposable. It was very fast to order and to get food, so great place for an outdoor catch up with up to a group of four. read more

I used to drive past the Santa Monica location all the time and thought about trying the bakery but felt weird about it being in an old funeral home. I ended up moving away from the westside and never got the chance to check it out but was so glad to find out Pasadena has its own location that's not haunted by ghosts. Awesome morning buns are a must try! I would come back just for those special pastries alone. They have the most wonderful hint of orange. It's kind of like eating a French toast croissant. I will say that Tartine is a little pricey though so I'm not sure how often I can realistically frequent this place. Each pastry is about $5 - $6. I bought 3 ham and cheese croissants and 2 morning buns. So 5 pastries was $30+. Free 2 hour street parking was easy to find on a weekday around noon. Line also moved rather quickly when I was there. I was so excited to see a part of SF in socal and came in one afternoon so I can grab some food, some bread and a drink. My god, I forgot how expensive this place is, but honestly Idon't mind paying for good food especially nice fresh bread but this was not it. Coffee is basic but good, 10/10 I can't complain But I'm giving 2 stars for my absolutely horrible bread that I got. I got a loaf of bread, but when Iwas inspecting it all they were all soft. Like, the exterior of the bread should be crisp, you know, when you have that sound when you scrape the edge of your knife on. Not at all. None of them. So I figured their bread is a soft bread. Nope. it was soggy. I think they put the bread in their bags and taped them CLOSED too early, so the heat from the bread condensated on the inside and made the bread soft and soggy. Increased one more star because the croissant I got was decent and flaky and crisp. I was so disappointed. I bought this amazing olive oil when I was out in italy and was so excited to eat it with some amazing bread and it was not it. And quite possibly will put you out of business, guaranteed. And now, onto the croissants. Who sold their soul to make these croissants?! I finally ventured forward to try them and I was ASTOUNDED!!! I tried the almost croissant. It was thick and heavily flaky and crispy because I was told only after asking that it's baked twice. Although being scolded by a doctor friend for eating "unhealthy croissants that probably had lard in them" I had to see what this is about. I blocked my mind about the disgusting lard but I doubt it. It's too bad they don't have vegan. When one is a great baker, you would think they would rise to the occasion and make the HEALTHIEST croissant, which is the vegan croissant. At least I will age more slowly eating vegan. So this has got to be the best almost croissant in the WHOLE OF PASADENA.. and yes, I know, it will be busier after this posting. And it's a little over 7.00 whilst the plain bagel is around 5.50! - but once in a while it's okay. I think the almond may rival anything in France! My cat loves their swirled dessert. Visited Tartine - Pasadena and I am pleasantly surprised. This location offers plenty of street parking and outdoor seating and it's located next to Yoga Six. They offer a variety of loaves, pastries, quiche, hand pies, and dishes with toast. Highly recommend getting the croissant loaf and the poppy lemon tea cake. The croissant loaf is so buttery, flaky and soft; perfect for breakfast during the week with my morning matcha. The poppy lemon tea cake is another delicious pastry that goes well with hot tea. Moved to Pas last summer and didnt't realize until today that we have a TARTINE here, oh my my. Did a sando, coffee and gf cookie and all was 10 out of 10. As a GF eater, the sourdough still works for my tummy which makes the options here endless and yummy. Parking was a challenge given it was Sunday but can't wait to come back here. So my sense of this Tartine is that while the baked goods continue to be superb I don't think that whoever is planning the food has the most refined palate. Like at the original Tartine *everything* was exquisite down to the little gem salad. But at this Tartine they make choices like broccoli and cheese for the savory scone - broccoli can be kind of funky in a no-good way - and the "meat"'quiche has some kind of taco-powder-adjacent sprinkled topping? It's just kind of a low-note palate and not for me anyway. The scone was over-salted and the tuna salad just not very yummy. Still, the bakes are amazing! The bread is wonderful. The coffee very good. And the spot is leafy and shaded if somewhat noisy. The workers are friendly and fast. I'll come back and just order carefully. read more

Having heard so much about the Tartine I wanted to try it. The place is small but has everything you need. I immediately found the baguette and some other sliced bread who is the lady in front of me said they sell out fast. They also sell a variety of baked goods, sandwiches, and of course several of coffee and tea drinks. There is no inside seating, its only outside. Which to me didn't matter since I was grabbing the goods to go. The staff were very helpful and quick to help. I brought home the baguette, sliced bread, a slice of the lemon poppy, and Marble cakes. I was a little disappointed at the extra "4% Employee Benefit" surcharge - a little unusual especially without any real notice. The initial milk foam was a nice texture, but after a while, it tasted like any normal latte. I was disappointed at the size options; I wish there were options to order larger sizes. Latte's not consistently good and dont taste the same as Sycamore Food menu hasnt rotated in 3 years. I tried Tartine for the first time in SF and followed it to DTLA and now to Pasadena! Opened January 2022 and located on Green Street by luxury condos not too far from Old Town. FOOD: Breakfast Sandwich- eggs, sharp cheddar cheese, seasonal greens, aioli, sweet potato bun. The sandwich itself was mediocre. Eggs were fluffy and the sweet potato bun was so soft which made it a bit hard to eat. It may have been better to order add-ons to jazz up the taste. Otherwise, I would go with a different sandwich next time. Daily Special- Turkey and ham with Gruyère cheese + a pickled carrot on the side. This was a great sandwich and so flavorful! Porridge Bread (precut)- a soft and moist bread that a perfect snack or breakfast choice. Lemon Cake Tea Cake- fragrant and dense in texture with almond powder sugar. A very tasty treat. AMBIANCE: The bakery is unassuming on the outside with several patio seating. PARKING: There is plenty of street parking. PRICE: The prices are on the higher end, but their bread is made daily. I loved the multilayer structure of the croissant. That's indication of a good crafted pastry. No wonder Tartine has won so many awards. With technical prowess and refined creativity leading to delicious results, Tartine has won a number of prestigious food awards. It won a James Beard Award for excellence in baking and pastry, and it's regularly named to "best of" lists in the Bay Area and for the United States as a whole. So now that Tartine is here locally with locations throughout LA, we don't have to go to SF in order to get the taste of the famous and delicious breads and pastries. read more

Your sandwiches are ok, but after having it one time, when we came back again and wifey and I ordered one to share, I didn't really care for it. Something is missing. Your chocolate chip cookie and brownie are meh. That brownie tastes like it's been there for a day or two. Not fresh. Your cookie doesn't seem that fresh either, but it's better than the brownie. Tartine bakery is on green street in a apt building and next to back of Ralph's market. We arrived there at 8:05am and found meter parking across the street. There was line of people to buy bread or pastries. As I got closer to the door, I could smell the aroma of the breads. There was 2 workers working on the online orders for pick up and one worker helping get the orders at the counter. They had a variety of pastries of croissants, tarts, cookies, bread. To get to the cashier, the wait was 20 minutes. After we paid, other 2 workers was able to help at the counter after the online orders. The chocolate croissant was flaky and buttery. It was so delicious when I had my first one at their previous Dtla location. Best to go after 8:30am during weekend-the line is shorter. read more

Just had a lemon curd pastry from Tartine-Pasadena. Divine! It just melted in my mouth, and the crust was buttery, crunchy, and so so good! I selected this pastry from a box dropped off at our office by a co-worker's parents and everything else looked scrumptious as well. Taking a gander at the online menu, however, I doubt I will be going there on my own as it is quite expensive, but I'm grateful to have a little taste of the "high life!" read more

A bit pricey but the sandwiches and pastries are really good here! My matcha latte was tasty, however I will request it extra hot next time. The ham and cheese croissant was quite meaty and it was crunchy even though it was sitting at room temperature. I wish my slice of quiche could have been warmed up, but they were baking something in the oven. It was a lot better when I took the leftovers home and popped it in my toaster oven.  My friend and hubby each got the turkey panini sandwich and they both enjoyed it a lot! 3 stars as in its A-Ok Got a few croissants (couple butter and a chocolate) and a cup of coffee. Was interested in the morning bun but my friend who got it during soft opening didn't think it was very good so I passed on it but might come back and get it in a later date. They seemed to have some issues on opening day, their espresso machine broke (in its first day??!) and they didn't seem well versed on how their credit card machine works despite having had open days during their soft opening to sort out basics like the credit card machine needing to insert card upside down. My 3-star a-ok review has nothing to do with opening day foibles as sh*T happens and it's sometimes beyond your control. The croissants are good, flaky and not "moist" the way most SoCal croissants tend to be. A good croissant should have a crunchy messy shell that crumbles as you bite into it, and then a moist interior. So in that sense it's more authentically French, as I've had in Paris. The chocolate croissant was severely lacking chocolate inside. Needed about 2-3x more than it did. The croissants are very large. So while expensive around $5 each, you're getting a big pastry. 3 croissants and coffee ended up being just over $20, and while I enjoyed it, it didn't blow me away to where I'd rush back.
