This location is always a hit or miss for me. Popcorn chicken and fries are incredibly salty, without any dipping while drinks are 50/50. I've been going to this location since it first opened and they used to have jackfruit bits as a topping so to see the quality decline saddens me. 90% of the time I order on the app and pick up. They typically get my order right except during my most recent visit, they couldn't make the fried tofu because it was discontinued. If that were the case, I wished they'd just taken it off the app. They provided me the option of ordering something else of equivalent or get a refund so I just opted the former. This is where my second gripe comes in -- popcorn chicken. I had already ordered a large popcorn chicken and fries so I subbed my tofu order for a small popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was nothing but seems like the fried ends with barely any meat. Both fries and chicken here are so salty as if it was doused in fish sauce. Drinks here are subpar. I previously came here for an avocado avalanche and rather than a smoothie, it was crushed iced iced cubes with milk and avocado bits like smashed avocados but worse. During my recent trip along with the food debacle, I also ordered three drinks for my family: 32 oz blueberry blush, 32 oz peach me sweetea, and a 20 oz bootea shaker. Service here is...interesting. In my previous experience, I ordered a drink from here and as I'm sipping + driving out of the plaza, I realize my cup has a leak with a piece of plastic falling out so I go back in to ask for a replacement cup. Instead, they just put a second cup over it lol. During my most recent pick-up, the to-go trays could BARELY support the two 32 oz drinks so upon pick-up, I told the workers I will get the drinks and rushed out to just place the tray in my car. After getting the drinks and food then going home, I realized they forgot to put in a topping (that I paid extra for) in the bootea shaker. LE SIGH LOL. Not to mention my peach me sweetea tasted like pure sugar water despite adjusting to medium sweetness. I'm assuming it's probably because I had x2 boba but I've done this years ago at this location and it was never this sweet until recently. Haven't had tastea in years and always loved the popcorn chicken before. Decided to give it a try for a quick snack. Shaded patio outside. Unfortunately was let down with the popcorn chicken. Decently sized portion but the popcorn chicken was soft and soggy. Only crispy parts were all the small pieces that are usually at the bottom of a bag. Too many crumbs as well. Opted for extra basil but wasn't much there. Would also prefer fried basil instead of raw. I got the matcha Thai tea and it was mainly just Thai tea flavor. Not balanced well. This Tastea is my regular spot. Drinks are good, and I usually come for the stevia drinks and snacks. They're fast too, which is nice. Today was really disappointing. I ordered a small popcorn chicken and it was $10 for barely anything. A one dimensional layer of chicken... Looks like they changed the portion size. If this is how it's gonna be from now on, I'm not getting snacks here anymore. Opening the box of chicken was actual rage bait. Feel like the picture doesn't really do it justice of how tiny it is. I stopped by here for some tea to fight the Sunday scaries and get some work done. I got Thai tea with honey boba and lychee bits, medium sweet and light ice. The medium sweet was still plenty sweet so if you're not about sweet drinks go lighter or order something else. My drink was made so quickly that it was ready by the time I walked over from the register to pick up. The lychee bits were a bit smaller and fibrous than I expected so I probably wouldn't personally get those again but the boba was done well. They have a few tables and seats if you want to stay and eat. I've also had their chicken before which was pretty good. I'll probably be back at some point to try something else. read more

I ordered the Peach Me Sweetea, one of their more popular flavors. I thought it was okay. The light sweetness was perfect for me, as I prefer less sweet drinks. I enjoyed the bits of fruit inside the drink a lot. However, I think the issue with the drink was that the peach flavor tasted artificial and not very tea-like. I didn't try a milk tea drink, but as someone who is lactose intolerant, I appreciated that they offered an oat milk substitute for every drink, cold or hot. Their menu is as vast as you'd expect other large boba chains in the Bay Area. All the teas are brewed individually with the flavor syrups being responsible for your added sugar intake. They offer non-dairy milk options which is what I always look for whenever I frequent a shop. I ordered a regular milk tea with soy milk and boba, and it hit the spot. Shop worker was very nice and my drink came out quickly. If you get overwhelmed by the options, be sure to ask the workers there for recommendations. Last time I'll ever waste my money in this establishment. Clearly, there hasn't been any improvement in customer service at this boba shop. I already expected a long wait ordering here due to the limited amount of shops open during Christmas so I ordered ahead and even then, I waited pass the "due by" time they provided to leave my house. I arrived 30 minutes after I ordered online and I asked the person handing out the drinks if she could check my order and she completely ignored me. Instead, I took a step back and looked behind the counter if my drinks were ready and I didn't see any hot drinks so I continued to wait. Another worker mentions to the person handing out the drinks that their machine is broken for the hot drinks so she'll just pop in the microwave. Seriously? Why did I even pay for my hot drink if I knew they're just going to microwave it. I knew she was talking about my drink so I come up to the counter again to check to see if the other drinks were ready and all I got was "we're still waiting on your hot drink." Overall wait time was about 40 minutes for an online order and by the time I received my cold drinks, the ice had already melted since the hot drink was taking a long time to make. I understand that it was busy, but super disappointed at my experience overall: long wait time, inefficient workers, broken machines, and bad customer service. Why pay a little over $7 for terrible customer service and subpar boba when there are sooo many other boba establishments in SJ? I'll take my money elsewhere. read more

I usually love Tastea but this location was not it. It was almost 20 minutes and still hadn't received my drink. I noticed the girl in front of me went up and asked about her drink and they gave it to her. I went up and they also had my drink sitting behind the counter. No apology or anything for the long wait/that they didn't call our names. They were calling names previously so not sure why they stopped. The girl after me proceeded to do the same thing. The drink was fine, as normal except they seem a bit more stingy on the toppings than the other locations I've been to. I had asked if they did catering for weddings and the girl said she thought so and gave me the owner's business card so that was nice of her. Today I visited Tastea. Drink was made perfectly. I sat outside to enjoy the morning weather and drink. When I needed to use the restroom, I asked the staff for the code to the restroom and I was quickly answered back," Restroom is for customers only." I had to humbly explain to this young man that we just made a purchase and that we were sitting outside enjoying the drink. He looked at me. Profiled me. And reluctantly gave me the restroom code so I can use their restroom. I have never been asked to humble myself, for my looks and appearance as a customer to use the restroom, but there I was, humbling and explain that I was a paying customer. This is San Jose. There are definitely more choices for me to spend my money. Tastea will not be one of them. Ownership will need to review their discrimination and profile practice that they have instituted with their staff. read more

The last time wrote a review for this location it was 5 years ago and they recently had their 5 year anniversary which I attended and was able to score some goodies. The first 100 people got a custom anniversary tshirt. This location has held the test of time and looks the same. The drinks are still my top 3 in fruit teas. I like coming here for the excellent selection of teas. Also glad they have a pretty massive 32oz option. Although I have to say, their boba balls are a little too big to fit through their straws. Often times I'm sucking super hard to get these balls into my mouth, and all I get is a slow drip of liquid. Sometimes I'm sucking so hard to get at those balls I have to take a break because I'm winded. If they could get larger diameter straws, that would solve the issue. Or I guess a little smaller balls but I don't think anyone would prefer smaller balls than larger ones. Perhaps I'm the only one who has a hard time sucking balls through a straw. YMMV. read more

Bootea shaker (subbed black jelly with lychee coconut jelly) - at 50% sweetness, it was extremely sweet. I'd recommend 25% sweetness. I couldn't really taste the mango, peach, or pineapple. It just tasted like a fruit syrup tea. The lychee coconut complemented the tea well.
