    Hair from Sandwich

Food was great, service friendly, and it was late in the afternoon so speed of service was not an issue. My only complaint is a piece of hair was found inside our sandwich. I don't think any of the food prep crew wore hats or had their hair tied back hence the possibility of this happening. This is our first visit here, and we ordered to go so couldn't bring it to their attention on the spot. I'm willing to give this place another try because their food was actually quite good, but this type of mishap could've been easily avoided if appropriate hair restraints were used.

Tuscany Italiano and Grilled Pork Banh Mi!

What a great little sandwich and tea spot! We stopped in for a quick lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was chill and I liked that you can order either at the counter or through the kiosk. We tried the Tuscany Italiano and the Grilled Pork Banh Mi, and both were fire. The bread was fresh, the Italiano was loaded, and the grilled pork banh mi had really good flavor. Definitely top notch sandwiches. We noticed they have a nice selection of boba drinks and teas that we didn't get to try this time, but they looked tempting and they are on my list for the next visit. We'll be back fasho! See you next time, Arome Cafe!

IMHO Came upon Arome while cruising the neighborhood for a place to eat lunch after some Christmas craft fair shopping. We figured we'd go in, check out the menu and decide whether we stayed or went in search of something else. After perusing the kiosk touchscreen menus, we decided to give Arome a try. Menu offerings range from Sandwiches, salads, pasta, coffee, boba, tea lattes, and a few savory pastries. We ordered the Roast Beef banh mi sandwich $10, the Shimeji Mushroom sandwich $12, and the Tuna Club sandwich $13.99, and one sweet tea (I don't remember which one, but it was really sweet!) It took a while for our sandwiches to make an appearance at our table, maybe 15 minutes or longer, but they were definitely worth the wait. These sandwiches were big and stuffed with yummy goodness. You definitely got bang-for-your-buck. The interior of the restaurant is spacious, clean, bright and welcoming. The beautiful cherry tree adds a peaceful element to the surroundings. Service was friendly, polite and helpful. Will I return? You bet!

I've been very satisfied with the service and drink consistency and quality at Arome. Arome is located in a moderately busy plaza in Evergreen with sufficient parking. It has a spacious interior, which is quite rare for boba shops nowadays. I've ordered their Green Thai Milk Tea and their Duo Thai Milk Tea at times. They both had authentic flavors, and although you can't make many modifications to those drinks, the sweetness was fine. What also draws me to Arome is the affordability of their drinks and the ample seating space. I love to stop by here when I need to relax and grab a quick sweet pick me up.

Took my mom for a quick bite last weekend. We pleasantly surprised with our delicious sandwiches. It look awhile to get our order but it was worth the wait. The sandwiches were packed with meat and the bread was warm. I didn't care for places that use a kiosk but the 2 young gentlemen that were making the sandwiches were polite. We will be back!

Very spacious cafe with lots of parking. They have wifi and seatings inside. I got the $8 banh mi and it was yummy and freshly toasted. The portion was pretty good too. The service was fast and their bathroom was clean.

Boba!!! Four stars instead of five because I tasted more of the mango purée than the Matcha. Other than that, I saw their menu and they have some delicious bowls that I'm interested in trying on my next trip. One of them included salmon! Super happy that this place is walking distance so we'll be coming here again. Not much service besides the gentleman in the back making the drinks being nice and saying hi. They didn't have a problem with engaging with customers, even if this restaurant has an ordering kiosk. Love the decorations by the way! Before walking into the restaurant, I noticed that the open sign wasn't turned on, so I didn't know for sure if the restaurant was open before attempting to open the door, but yeah... Just a little nitpick here, but it might matter.

Croissant sandwich with ham, cheese and fried egg

Enter and order at one of the two touchscreen kiosks. I like this style, but it can be a little slower your first time because there are a lot of items to choose from. And because it's a kiosk, I didn't capture any menu photos. I ordered the croissant sandwich with ham and egg. It took a solid 15 minutes to prepare it, which seemed a little long since I was the only customer. Anyway, when it came out, the first thing I noticed was the sandwich was BIG. Which of course I like. I asked if it was a warm sandwich and he said yes, but it wasn't really warm. In fact, it was bold except for the fried egg. I guess that's alright. Another lesson learned for me is to ask for without the dressing. It's a little too much on the sweet side. For drink I had the classic milk tea and added boba. Pretty good, not the best I've had but good. I say that because the boba weren't all the way soft and I didn't see a location to change the sweetness level. But it's possible I missed it. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated. They have faux cherry blossom trees and other similar plants. It's nice and bright and very clean. I'll give them another try soon.

Final Thoughts: 3.49/5 A little in between stars here. The food and experience wasn't bad...but it's just not to my preferences. Simple brunch day with my friends before some shopping. Honestly, nothing extravagant at all. Overall, so-so experience here today. Food: Brisket Phở Dip Bánh Mì: 3.4/5 Starting with the pros, I actually really enjoyed the flavors of the filling of this item. Very nice marinade and balance of umami, saltiness, and sweetness was good. This item does need the dipping sauce broth item on the side because it just adds another flavor component. The meat texture itself is alright. It felt a little dry because of how thin it is. It does tear apart upon biting, but that seems likely related to how thin its sliced. For the vegetables, they were nicely pickled and leaned more on the sweet side. Not too much acidity or saltiness from it at all. Not actually a complaint because it adds this freshness to the overall taste. For the bread, I'm not impressed. It was big, but it was too much bread for me in general. Yes, it does present as a larger portion size, but the ratio is slightllyoff for me. Flavor and smell of the bread are subpar. By far, my favorite is the bread from Bánh Mì Đức Hương and this is where my standard is. There's a lack of this nice yeasted bread smell and crunch from the bread. For something that took around 20 minutes to come out, I would expect the bread crispy and hot, but it was not. It was warm at best. Bread also seemed quite dry and somewhat stale because the inside part of the bread kind of fell apart as I carved it away from the crust. Asian Chicken Schnitzel: 3.6/5 Starting with the bread this time, I actually thought it was really good. They use a ciabatta bread and I thought that it was going to be dry, but this one seemed quite fresh. The crust has a nice crunch to it while the inside is quite soft and soaked up a lot of the flavor from the sauce. For the aroma of the bread, there was this mild wheat and tangy smell, which I liked. The chicken schnizel was something I also really enjoyed. Quite the thick piece of flattened chicken. The inside was juicy and not dry. When I made a cross-section of it, it was nicely cooked and still retained that juice. Crust was lovely. Very crunchy breading that just still remained that way even after soaking in some of the sauce. Speaking of sauce, while I did enjoy a lot of it, the sauce felt a little bit too acidic for me. There seems to be a drizzle of teriyaki sauce or a soy sauce based sauce in there too which added another flavor component. I wished the flavors were more balanced though because the red sauce (maybe marinara sauce) was so acidic and overpowering, that it overwhelmed the other flavors involved. -------- Quality: Alright Quality was alright. The bánh mì was actually just warm, which is interesting because it took around 20 minutes to come out. Perhaps it was just sitting there while the other item was being made. The bread was not crispy though, which is unfortunate. It felt more stale and hard if anything. For the meats and sauces, those were actually quite good. The meat is fully cooked through and is a very lean meat. The sauce was a nice flavor. For the veggies, they looked quite fresh in general, which is nice. Price: Expensive For the item that's provided, the price does lean more on the American sandwich pricing, which means that it is more expensive. For the two items that we got, it was around $30. At other Vietnamese bread places, the prices haven't reached $10 yet, so for these items to exceed $10, is a bit excessive for me. While the item that is provided is slightly bigger, I personally don't think it's worth it. Service: Limited; not too significant Limited interactions for today's visit. We ordered on a kiosk at the front and then they just called out our number to get our food once it was ready. My one note is that the food takes quite a long time to come out. For bread items, I would expect the wait to be more within 10 minutes, but the food came out within around 20 minutes. There were only three parties (mine included) at the café too. One party of 1, one party of 2, and my party of 3. Quite the long wait time though. Ambiance: Calm and Tranquil The interior was very calm and tranquil. There looks to be a peach blossom or cherry blossom tree built inside of the café. I can only imagine how nicely decorated that tree will be during the Lunar New Year. Very soft and tranquil area to be in though. Would definitely go here to study and work. Location/Parking: Aight This spot is located in the plaza on San Felipe Road and Yerba Buena Road. It's right on the corner too. There are a few other food places within this area. There seems to be optimal parking, but the parking spaces appear to all be for a compact car or a sedan. SUVs might have a more difficult time. I can't see an issue with finding parking though since this place doesn't look like one that gets oversaturated with people.

Mango Matcha Latte Thai Tea Matcha
    Amie N.

cute mini cafe, hardly busy, peaceful study spot. the owner insisted i try the matcha in store. had i disliked it, he would've REMADE IT ON THE SPOT. love a small business that prioritizes customer satisfaction appreciated the option of oat, almond milk (i got almond). if ur looking for a deep, slightly bitter, earthy matcha then this isn't it. i got more creamy notes. once i got 2/3 of the way done, the heavy cream started overpowering. i'd rec less sugar bc the mango bottom is pre sweetened, REAL MANGO YESS!! this was like a hybrid milkshake/latte so idk if refreshing is the right word. the thai matcha was solid. both flavors came through equally and more places need to offer this OH MY GOSH !!

Grilled pork banh mi and pork pate chaud
    Bao Chau N.

I love this spot in the neighborhood. The best grilled pork banh mi for $8.50. You cannot get better value. The fluffy Pate Chaud is huge and so good. Give this place a try.

I've been a regular at Arome Cafe on San Felipe Rd for months, mainly for the banh mi. It's usually been solid, which makes this experience especially disappointing. I placed an online order at 4:06 PM with a pickup time of 4:21 PM and arrived at 4:22. Two young employees were hanging around and only started my order after I arrived, telling me it would be "5 minutes." It ended up taking about 15 more minutes. The wait wasn't the issue, the food was. The meat smelled bad, tasted off, and had a rubbery texture, as if it was undercooked or cooked straight from frozen. I couldn't eat it. Shortly after, I felt extremely nauseous and spent a long time gagging, feeling like I was on the verge of food poisoning. Thankfully, I felt fine the next morning. Because of this, I can't see myself ordering here again. I'm giving 2 stars only because my previous visits were good, but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in years.

Nice cafe to have your lunch and do work at. Went in for coffee and could not decide what to get so I got the egg coffee and sea salt coffee along with an oolong milk tea for my son. I order thru the kiosk which was pretty easy. I prefer ordering with a person rather than the kiosk. Coffee were both creamy but was more sweet than normal also not as strong as I usually like them. Overall it's ok drink.

For $8, a dollar a sip. In this economy ?!? I got robbed. Next time I'll stick to Izumi or soyful. Wowowow finally got to try Izumi's drinks. Not sure if they need another 5 star review lol, this…read moreplace is heavily known by matcha lovers and SJ locals. What I had: - Lychee Matcha (double matcha, regular sweet, regular ice) - Yuzu Matcha (double matcha, regular sweet, regular ice). Double matcha was not overly strong or caffeinating to me (love that they do not charge extra for this option btw)- my caff tolerance I'd say is relatively high or above average for sure. Surprisingly, at that matcha level the taste is not overly bitter at all. And the regular sweet is perfect (I normally get 50% sweet at boba shops). Same with the ice level, I think their regular ice level is fine (I normally get less ice at boba shops). The Lychee matcha has great lychee taste, not artificial tasting, it's a great blend of both lychee + matcha. The Yuzu is leaning towards the 'lemonade' profile without being overly citrusy. More refreshing than the lychee matcha, but both are refreshing anyways due to the nature of their flavors! I think I prefer the lychee matcha normally, honestly hard to say which flavor is better! I thoroughly enjoyed both these drinks! Their flavors are blended well with the matcha- not overly sweet in flavor, and matcha is great quality while not overly powerful or bitter. Drinks are of course mixed well and composed nearly perfectly. ---How I Rate on Yelp:--- (5 stars): Exceptional!! -- food, service, and atmosphere all outstanding. Worth going out of your way. (4 stars): Great! -- very good experience overall, minor flaws but nothing major. (3 stars): Good -- decent, acceptable, but there's room for clear improvement. (2 stars): Poor -- disappointing experience, multiple issues (food, service, or setting). (1 star): Terrible -- very bad experience, would not return or recommend.

Izumi is a must-try for matcha lovers. They use high quality premium powder from Uji so you know…read morethey farealreal! You could buy tins of Marukyu Koyamaen matcha if you want to make lattes at home! Came here twice with my boo because their drinks slap! The Hojicha latte is not too sweet and very roasted, nutty, and smooth. The matcha crème brûlée swirl drank seemed to be their popular drink because a lot of those were being whipped up when we were waiting for our order. It looks aesthetically pleasing, but damn she thicck. It's like a milkshake and you need a big boba straw to get the liquid through. It was good but my boo said it was sorta a challenge to drink. A spoon is needed to thoroughly mix things together. The 2nd time around we ordered the matcha latte and the Hojicha cheese mousse. The Hojicha was a little stronger in flavor since there was no milk added to it. The cheese mousse was thick. I started drinking it through the sip top but eventually went in with a straw to mix it up. The hint of saltiness from the foam paired pretty well with the tea. My guy got the matcha latte with oat milk and the oat flavor is pretty overpowering. You'd taste the oat and then the matcha. It was okay but my boo finished it with no complaints. The shop is small but there's a long bench and a few tables to sip and chill. You mainly order from the kiosk, but when a long line forms, a human assists with ordering. The drink competition is strong in the plaza that they're in. There's at least 3 other boba shops in the same strip they're in and 2 more across the way. But Izumi stayed pretty busy the times we were there. Parking is kinda limited though because they're in a busy plaza. The last time we came we parked across at Target nearby and walked over. Overall, great Hojicha and matcha. The prices are decent for the area. They'll charge you if you want a cup of ice btw. Service is quick. I'd definitely come here again or to any of their other locations. When it comes to matcha they know what's up!
