Went to this place on the recommendation of a colleague. It looks like a hole in the wall but is very busy. They staff inside was very friendly and didn't rush me to order. There were two tables inside but pushed to the side. I decided to eat in my car. I ordered a roast beef with provolone, lettuce and tomato, OV, oregano. They did ask twice what I wanted on it but it's better than not getting what I wanted. The making is like an assembly line. First they cut the roast beef and put that and the cheese on. The next step is the other stuff. I got a water and small cup of macaroni salad which was really good. I should've gotten a bigger container. I would've given 5 stars but on the first half of the sub the roast beef wasn't to my liking, as it wasn't rare enough. It was borderline well done. On the second half, the roast beef was rare. I do recommend this place and will definitely try them again when in the area. I hear their Italian sub is superb. read more

A solid sandwich . Nothing fancy. Nothing extra . Solid bread , solid deli offers and fresh toppings. The portion is big so that's a plus . I got a whole (largest ) tuna , and it was okay- good . If I am ever was craving a regular deli sub , this would be a go to . I wish they had more hot sandwich offerings like steak and cheese but it's an old school traditional sub shop . You cannot order Doordash from this store. They mess up the order every single time. You have to be standing there watching. I just paid $54 and got a single sub. I didn't get the platter I also ordered. And, my sub is made wrong. Once again. I asked for lettuce, onions, vinegar, and hot peppers. I said to put the vinegar and hot peppers on the side, and to put a ton of onions, more than even the lettuce. I cannot eat a whole sub from this place in one day. I can barely eat 1/4. So I do NOT want the vinegar put onto the bread, because it will get very soggy. So what do I get? I get a sub with the bread drenched in vinegar, the salt and pepper on the bread, and NO ONIONS. Not a SINGLE string of onion. I don't know why the orders would be wrong all the time, since the instructions are in writing. Another thing is, I prefer to have the cheese put on last, because it then helps to hold down the onions (if you get any) and the lettuce. Instead, they put it down right on top of the tuna, so instead of the condiments being pressed down into the tuna, the cheese makes it slippery and the lettuce and onions slide off the sandwich. The cheese could be acting like a wrapper to the veggies and instead they put it first, like a barrier to the mushy tuna. Also, the vinegar should go ON THE TUNA, not the bread. The cheese could act like a barrier against the bread getting all soggy. I'm very angry right now so I'm complaining, but I will say the tuna is awesome, the bread is usually fresh, the line moves fast, I love the pickles, and the potato salad is good and fresh. I consider making a sandwich a type of art form. For me, all the components have to come together. Since I am not big on sandwiches and subs, it's very hard to please me. From the bread, meats, toppings and dressings, if something is off, I will open up the sandwich and try to fix it. If I really don't like it, I make my husband finish it for me and I would go make myself a bologna sandwich instead. The long lines here are constantly present but it moves fast. Parking is tiny and it's hard to get in and out of the lot. Have patience. A second location is in Franklin Park, less busy and just as good. The first sub I ordered here was the roast beef. Upon first bite, I remember widening my eyes, letting out a Mmmmm and slapping the table hard. Finally!! Someone who can make a dang good sub. I couldn't wait to take my second bite. Since then, I have tried the tuna fish, ham and Italian sub. I recommend them all. My son who is also not big on subs, loved it. It has just the right amount of fresh meat, toppings and the dressing wasn't overpowering with vinegar like most other sandwiches. The meats are sliced to order, the bread is nice and soft. You can ask for hot peppers on the side if you want. When President Obama was in office, he did a tour of successful small businesses around the U.S. Tastee Sub Shop was one of his stops. I found out today that Whole Wheat Bread was available for an additional 40 cents- a good deal since Tastee's subs are substantial (pun intended). We also requested and received extra containers of Onions, Vinegar and Chili Sauce so that family members can customize their Tastee subs. We fed 6 people with 3 subs (half a sub was leftover). It's not a foot-long Subway's sub. It's like Subway's cousin who's been hitting the gym with a hot girlfriend. Mine was about 18"? It's so long that they know to cut it into fours. The cousin's personality though is down-to-earth and he's still that slightly older cousin who used to teach you how to play videogames. The taste is a classic deli-style sandwich with a spicy kick if you decide to add in the red pepper sauce / banana peppers. All in all, a great sandwich shop if you're looking for something big, clean (not greasy if you get the cold cut combo) and hoping to have enough left over for that night's dinner or tmrrw's lunch. Prices are dirt cheap. For her a 8 inch turkey sub on white for less than 5 bucks. My sandwich is a very popular # 5 Super sub (16 inch) with ham, salami,cappacola,proscuttini with the works. Whole wheat bread was still fresh and is 45 cents extra. 5% off if you pay cash. My only drawback is both are a little light on the meat. Total was about 18 bucks. This is Tastee Subs, this is what all other New Jersey subs shops(and major sub chains) strive to be. Since 1963, Tastee has been making good subs for the central Jersey crowd and they do it well. So well, that President Obama made it one of his stops when he was campaigning years ago. They obviously are doing everything right. I have been going since I was little, so I can't really tell you how many of their sandwiches I have had over the years. But nothing has changed since the beginning. Except they added wheat bread within the past five to six years. If you go during lunch, be prepared to wait. Tastee is small and lines snake outside the building. There are literally around six tables inside, so most people tend to grab and go. I have had most of the menu but I tend to go for the Italian meats and usually add either smoked or honey turkey to it. Ordering is simple, you step up to the person slicing meats and tell them your order then step to the right for your veggies and dressing. Lettuce, tomato, onions, oil & vinegar, oregano and of course hot pepper relish. Add chips and a drink and you are on your way to the best sub you've ever had, or will have. Being that I live in Texas, I get one rarely now and it ends up on the airplane with me. They are accommodating to that. They will put the oil, vinegar and pepper relish in plastic containers and put a piece of wax paper between the top bun and meat and wrap it in foil. So I thank them for that little extra. Just go, from wherever in the country you Yelpers are from, but go and get a Tastee sub at least once in your life. You won't ever forget it. read more
