The spicy sauce in medium heat always hits so good!!. I always go for the bullfrog and meat, or the shrimp - they even devein the shrimp, so the flavors really soak in. Service is always good here, too. I love that the small size feeds two people comfortably, and the large could honestly feed up to 5 people! read more

This is my first time trying dry pot and it is so yummy! We ordered on the QR code and food came out pretty quick. We got the lamb pot with garlic flavor and mild spice and I added sausage and gluten. The only issue I had was with the gluten which was still undercooked and chewy but everything else was tasty. The sesame noodle was also really good. The sauce is nice and nutty after mixing thoroughly. Love the pickled green beans on it as well, I wish there was a little spice in it but that's okay. I underestimated their definition of "master large size" because the three of us barely made a dent in the food. The dry pot is very customizable which is nice because you can each have your own small one or just get one and have it family-style. We ordered the griddle cooked beef and beef ox tripe combo and various toppings: napa cabbage, taro, fresh bamboo shoots, king oyster mushroom, frozen tofu, wild vermicelli, dried bean curd sheets, and Shuanghui sausage. We chose the spicy flavor and got medium spicy. I don't regret the spice level but it's not for the weak because they mean it. I would personally opt for mild next time so I don't need to take a break every few bites. That said, the food was delicious. The meat was so tender and flavorful and every single item was coated well in the sauce. It's also over a heat source the whole time so it stays piping hot if you mix it up. Also, don't skip out on the pumpkin cakes. I heard that they were good so I ordered them skeptically but it was so addicting that I kept eating more. It has a crispy outer shell from being fried but the inside is mochi-like so it has a chewy texture. It was pretty empty on a Monday night so they seated us right away and there's plenty of parking in the underground structure. read more

I came to try Yipinxiang with a friend, and honestly, I thought, "Malatang or dry pot? I can just make that at home." But after trying it--wow, I have to admit, it's really good! No wonder they've been around for 13 years. They offer combo meals, which are actually a great deal You can also choose your spice level. We went with medium spicy for the catfish + lamb combo, and a non-spicy combo with chicken wings + squid. Everything was super flavorful and well-marinated--not like some places where they just boil everything and quickly stir-fry it (I had that recently somewhere else...). The medium spice level was very aromatic The catfish absorbed all the flavor perfectly, and the lamb (with skin) had zero gaminess--the skin was pleasantly chewy too. The chicken wings were all mid-joints and nicely seasoned. The non-spicy version had a rich soy-based flavor, and the squid was bouncy with a great chewy texture. The combo also comes with potatoes, cauliflower, celery, and bean sprouts. I added spam and tofu skin, and they were both super flavorful as well! We also tried the stinky tofu (my friend said it might be new?), and it totally surprised us--in a good way! Crispy on the outside, soft and tender inside. And the dipping sauce is the real highlight--so good!! Definitely coming back next time I'm craving mala dry pot read more

Dry hot pot was all the craze in 2015 but I feel like a lot of them have closed down since COVID. I'm so glad tasty dining is still open and going strong. There's 7-8 tables inside this small establishment but the minute you step in your help with the warmest welcome by the owner. She immediately sat us down and we ordered with the QR code on each table. Food was out in 5 minutes. My favorite is the beef spicy pot. You choose from medium or large upgradd for 11 dollars extra. Medium is more than enough for 2 in my opinion. There's 5 different types of spices you can choose from and I went with the traditional spicy, which has a more richness to the spices. You can of course dial up or down the spice level according to your preferences. The pots come with potatoes, celery, cauliflower, and bean sprouts. There's so much add ons that you can put into your pot from their endless choices. They even have it separated in categories to make it easier for you. Different categories include vegetables, meatballs, Mushrooms, and tofu. You can even add an entire meat choice in your existing order if you would like. It's entirely customizable which is another perk. Definitely recommend that you try if you haven't! read more

Came here on a Friday night with my parents and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy dry hot pot so I was excited to try this place out. Located in a plaza on Valley Blvd, parking can be a hassle because there are other crowded businesses using the same parking lot. Street parking is often available which is what we did yesterday. This is a spacious restaurant with plenty of seating. The vibe is very casual and relaxed. We got there at the right time because we took the last available table and everyone started lining up and writing their names down to wait. We got there at about 7:30 PM which was during the dinner rush. I scanned the QR code and ordered a medium bullfrog pot, medium pork intestine pot, wuhan noodles, 2 rices and an additional beef tripe for us. Service was kind and the waitress spoke Mandarin and English. The bullfrog and pork intestine pot comes with celery, potato, bean sprouts and cauliflower. There are additional meats and veggies that you can add onto the pots but we chose not to add anything. We were able to personalize the flavor and spice level of each pot which was nice. My parents and I enjoy eating spicy food so we opted for the medium spice with the garlic flavor. The pots were each flavorful and large in portion to be honest. Medium was a good size for 2 people but we opted to try two after speaking with the waitress haha. The wuhan noodles with sesame sauce was pretty good! The sesame sauce helped cut the spicy flavor when it became a little too much for me. I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes noodles. I don't really like rice so these noodles paired well with the very spicy dry pots. Lastly, we ordered an additional side of beef tripe which I really liked! The texture was great and the flavor was nice and spicy! This place would have been PERFECT 5/5 if they had beer! I usually enjoy drinking beer when eating super spicy dry pot. Tasty Dining specializes in Chinese Dry Hot Pot where you can select spicy, mala or non spicy sauces such as their garlic sauce and pick what proteins, seafood, veggies or noodles. This savory garlic sauce exceeded my expectations in flavor and how it coats all the protein and veggies I selected. I practically all the proteins which included beef short ribs, chicken wings, sausage, pork belly and fish tofu. Tasty Dining is one of my favorite spots to revisit anytime I am back in the 626. They specialize in Chinese dry pot, which is kind of like a mix between stir fry and hotpot. The best part is the meal is fully customizable!! You pick your sauce, spice level, dry pot size, base and toppings!! I've been here several times with my mom and family. We always order the garlic sauce and get mild or non-spicy depending on our mood. This past visit, we got their griddle cooked beef short rib combo with fish and griddle cooked chicken cartilage (my personal favorite) with spam, noodle, mushroom and rice cake add-on. All griddle pots come with bean sprouts, cauliflower, potatoes, and celery. The portions are quite big and can be taken to go!! The food is always packed with flavor and I love the variety of texture/items in the dish. The chicken cartilage was crunchy, while the fish filet is tender. The beef short rib was a bit chewy for me though. In addition to good food, their prices are fair (around $20-$30 per person) and they also have lunch special where you can order a small size pot! I've been to this location for countless times over several years. The flavor has always been tasty (no pun intended) as well as consistent (although the spicy level may vary a bit depending on the day). My favorite being the fish fillet + spam as the add on. Although the server turnover seems quite frequent, I've never had a bad experience. The server I've had always seems to be better than the average expectation. The overall environment is quite pleasant. Often with Chinese pop music playing in the background. The tables and utensils are clean, nothing sticky or dirty. Overall this is one of my go to places if I just want something that's flavorful and packs a punch. read more

We ordered a sizable spread for two people: Chong Qing fried chicken, dan dan noodles, wontons with chili oil, and pea tips with garlic. Everything was delicious, most of all the Chong Qing fried chicken, crispy nibbly bits of breaded chicken stir-fried with green onion and hot pepper. I love dan dan noodles and wontons, and thought both were great, if not the best I've had in the area. The pea tips were lovely, bright green and not spicy, but abundantly flavorful. I'd love to come back to Xiang La Hui and try more of the menu. It seems like a restaurant that does everything well, and I'll keep it in mind whenever I'm craving Sichuan.

If these aren't your jam, it's probably better to select the dishes individually, especially if you can't handle spicy! Hunan dishes contain lots of chili and is often pretty oily. I didn't feel like cooking today, so I took my wife and kid to Yi Pin Xiang for dinner. It's a Dry-Pot restaurant that I haven't visited in a long time, but I used to eat here frequently during my study abroad days. The restaurant is nice and clean, and each table has a QR code for the menu, allowing customers to scan, browse, and place orders directly--very convenient! I personally love it. I ordered the large Dry-Pot with beef, choosing the hot and spicy flavor. Besides the beef, the dish included cauliflower, jalapeno peppers, French fries (potato strips), celery, and bean sprouts. I also added luncheon meat and lotus root extra --because to me, a Dry-Pot without luncheon meat is incomplete! The taste was just as I remembered--the beef was tender and chewy. It seemed like the restaurant had pre-cooked the beef in a braised style, then sliced it before adding it to the pot. The meat itself was beef shank, and since I often make braised beef at home, I could tell right away. The beef was flavorful and had a great texture. The luncheon meat was also pre-fried to hold its shape before being added, so it didn't fall apart. Combined with the fresh vegetables, the dish was flavorful , spicy, and incredibly satisfying. The fact that this restaurant has thrived in the competitive San Gabriel dining scene for over ten years speaks volumes about its quality! The portions were generous. After eating my fill at the restaurant, I packed the leftovers to take home. Plan the next day, I reheated them in a pan and added instant noodles--it was absolutely amazing, just like the flavorful stir-fried noodles from street vendors back home! For my wife and child, I ordered the Dry-Pot with chicken wings. The wings were tender and easily fell off the bone, with no unpleasant taste. I recently had a Spicy Dry Pot and it was great! The moment it was put down on the table, I was hit with a super nice smell. The pot was filled with a mix of different meats and veggies, all cooked in amazing spices. It looked so good! When I took the first bite, the flavors really packed a punch. Spicy, but not too hot that it takes away from the yummy flavors of the food. With every bite, it got a bit more spicy, which was exciting. The best part was all the different ingredients. It had chicken, beef, tofu, shrimp, and different veggies like mushrooms and lotus root. Each piece tasted of the spicy sauce while still keeping its own flavour. Super bad service! We were there for lunch, they still have two tables available, one is for four people, the other one was for two. Our party total have three adults and one baby, the baby and me were there first, the guy there said when our party all here we can have the table, 5 mins later one of my friend come, we only missing one person now, and another 5 mins later, two old lady come, and told them they have party of 3, that guy ask them to sit on that big table, which is they missing one person too. WTF, I was there wait for 10 mins still have no seat, why you give the table to them!? Do you know what is first come first serve? Will never go to this place again! read more

Been coming here since my student days and it still hits every time. One of those old-school spots a lot of Chinese international students know about. The pig trotter was probably my favorite -- super soft and gelatinous, almost falling off the bone, and the spicy sauce soaked all the way in. The beef looked simple but was really flavorful and perfect with rice. We also got chicken wings and crispy chicken cartilage for snacking with the hot pot. Everything tasted freshly cooked and super comforting. Not a fancy place at all, but the kind of spot you keep coming back to when you want legit Chinese food and a super satisfying meal. read more

Tasty Dining has one of the best Mala Xiang Guo (dry pot) I've had in a long time. The flavor is bold and addictive--perfectly numbing and spicy without being overly salty or greasy. The hot pot itself was okay, but it honestly felt more healthy than flavorful. The beef was supposed to be fresh, but I couldn't really tell much of a difference compared to frozen beef. Service was also pretty slow. You order through a QR code, but it still took a long time just to get two bowls of rice we asked for. Overall, the meal felt kind of bland and not really something I'd crave again. Maybe next time I'd skip the hot pot and try some of the cooked dishes instead.

She is just there, watching you. If you have a strong sense of nostalgia, this is the place for you. The whole restaurant feels like a Chinese third-tier city renovation project from years ago: non-English-speaking waiters, Snow Beer, a whole lineup of Chinese internet-famous drinks like Chi Forest and Ye Shu Coconut Milk, plus those thick, clunky plates and bowls. You name it. I visited this restaurant twice. The first time, I thought I had found a new go-to spot. The second time, I changed my mind. The biggest issue is the pricing. It keeps going up, and you never really know how much you are going to pay in advance. Let's talk about the food first. No matter what name they give it, this is basically a hot pot restaurant. Even if you judge the soup base as a real hot pot broth, it is not going to score very high. It is just average. The menu is interesting. It has English, but it is full of typos, misspellings, strange spacing, and random symbols. More importantly, you can never clearly tell the actual price from the menu. It is AYCE, but there always seem to be hidden charges, and you always end up paying more than you calculated. They offer several kinds of pots. I ordered the Frog Fish Hot Pot both times. The bullfrog was fresh, but not live bullfrog. Chinese people do have a special enthusiasm for live seafood and freshly killed meat. They also provide more than a dozen small side dishes, all included in the AYCE price, so do not hesitate to ask for more. I have to say, most of them are actually delicious. The portions are tiny, so if you like something, ask for several orders. Just be aware that almost all the dishes are salty and spicy. The Braised Lamb and Braised Intestines were good. I would not recommend the Braised Beef because it was way too spicy. I also would not recommend the Braised Chicken Feet, Cold Spicy Crispy Chicken, or Sweet and Sour Ribs. They looked like they had been sitting there for a long time.

Extremely disappointing and disturbing experience…read more While dining here, we found what appeared to be a cockroach in our food after we had already eaten part of the meal. I immediately notified the restaurant and took clear photos of what we found. Management refunded our entire bill in cash, but what disappointed me most was how the situation was handled afterward. When I raised concerns about what we had just eaten and asked how they intended to address the incident, I was essentially told that there would be no further resolution and that I could seek medical attention if I felt unwell. Since the incident, I have personally experienced persistent nausea and loss of appetite when thinking about what happened. I have retained the original photos and have reported the incident to the appropriate health authorities. Finding something like this in food is disturbing enough, but I also expected the situation to be handled with greater concern and professionalism. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

The bad: Not all of the menu items had photos that loaded (or perhaps there were no photos to go with all the menu items but it looked like there were empty squares where images would be). There aren't too many options if you want non-spicy food for kids (there's fried rice, veggies and regular rice). They were really busy when we came so our rice and chicken came out at different times after the main dish. We had to ask the server a few times for the rice and they seemed really busy. The interesting: They did a mix of plastic ware but also ceramics. The cups were plastic. The kids "plates" were togo containers. The container for the side of chicken wings in the lunch special were to go containers. The main dish for the lunch was in regular ceramic plates.

The sides are delicious like the chicken bones which I was skeptical about but it had a sweet soy marinade and gnawing on them was like eating popcorn chicken just with bones. It does take more work so if you're not into that then they also have chicken breast tenders I saw a few tables ordering. This restaurant only seats about 16 people and has some bar seating so just be aware it's not good for big groups. Located in a small center on the corner of Broadway and San Gabriel Blvd, there is plenty of parking. Would recommend this spot to anyone wanting to try something new. It comes in a comforting broth with enoki mushrooms, tofu skin, seaweed, black fungus, baby bok choy, and your choice of handmade meatballs or seafood balls. I went with the meatballs and also added a side of spicy black fungus, which had a nice punch of vinegar and heat and was surprisingly good. The portion was pretty big and filling, and the potato noodles were still the star for me. Super chewy and satisfying, exactly what I wanted on a cold night. They're also currently offering free green tea for customers, which was a nice touch. Overall, this visit was much better for me. Simple, comforting, and solid. I should definitely be coming back more often.
