Wanted something different for my noodle tastebuds and strolled into JCHF potato noodle on a solo date. Minimal English within the servers but they were so nice and you can atleast point to the things on the menu and they have translations so it works out. The potato noodle is a huge bowl, was not expecting that size to come out of the kitchen. Great bang for your buck and right now they are having a special if you dine in you get complimentary green tea, not just a cup of it but a whole jug at your table. Such a nice refresher since I was eating spicy noodles haha. You can choose no spice, mild, medium and spicy for your bowl and you also have an option of seafood balls or house made meat balls. They have a menu if you want to add additional items to your bowl like quail eggs and beef slices and various other options. The sides are delicious like the chicken bones which I was skeptical about but it had a sweet soy marinade and gnawing on them was like eating popcorn chicken just with bones. It does take more work so if you're not into that then they also have chicken breast tenders I saw a few tables ordering. I came back here the other night since it was cold out and I was craving something warm and simple. This time I went with the special handmade potato vermicelli. It comes in a comforting broth with enoki mushrooms, tofu skin, seaweed, black fungus, baby bok choy, and your choice of handmade meatballs or seafood balls. I went with the meatballs and also added a side of spicy black fungus, which had a nice punch of vinegar and heat and was surprisingly good. The portion was pretty big and filling, and the potato noodles were still the star for me. Super chewy and satisfying, exactly what I wanted on a cold night. They're also currently offering free green tea for customers, which was a nice touch. Overall, this visit was much better for me. Simple, comforting, and solid. This spot is low-key hidden in San Gabriel Valley, They only serve five things, but every single one hits. You have to get the potato noodles. they're super bouncy, elastic, kinda chewy in a way that's actually fun to eat. Way better texture than regular noodles. broth is flavorful, and it doesn't make you crazy thirsty after, so I'm guessing they don't load it up with fake seasoning. Just clean, solid flavor. It was our first time trying potato noodles. The texture was interesting, but quite tasty. Good chewiness to it. We got mild spice and was a lil spicier than most other mild places. Nose was running a little. The fried chicken was meh. I think a lot of people order it, but it wasn't our thing. It was on the sweet side, which I don't prefer my fried chicken to be. Also it was way too bony and hard to eat. But for me, it was the taste. Did not like the taste. Maybe that's how northern chinese people like. Would not get again. Ya'll, this little shop is so good! I found this place on Yelp a while ago but due to very little reviews, never tried it. Today I was feeling adventurous and decided to stop by and it was the best decision ever! I thought it was going to be a smol shop with little to no customers but to my surprise this place was PACKED for lunch on a Wednesday. I ordered the special handmade potato vermicelli with meatballs, mild spicy. Portion is generous - I filled four bowls of noodle and soup. Potato noodles were delightfully chewy and delicious. I found the mild to be pretty spicy haha. Everyone around me also ordered the qq chicken bones and it smelled amazing! You do have go wait a bit for your noodles - I waited about 20-25 minutes. You are greeted by the warm and cozy feeling of a small restaurant with nice decor and happy people. I went in around 6:20PM and had to wait a good 30mins before being seated, even though there were empty tables. I ordered a a potato noodle bowl, shenyang QQ chicken, and a what gluten noodle. You are able to somewhat customize the noodle bowl with toppings and spice levels. The noodles are sooo chewy, but the broth was one dimensional. The toppings and noodles are also plentiful, but I don't recall there being any protein in the base order I ordered. The Shenyang QQ chicken was definitely the star of the show due to its flavor, albeit the meat quantity was small due to the amount of bones. For your protein fix, I recommend ordering this dish, as it adds a different flavor and texture. Service attitude could've been better, as our server appeared rude when seating and taking our order. They were dismissive and after every item, kept saying "and then what" in Chinese. Overall though, given the limited choices of potato noodles, this place is a decently priced and portioned spot to go to if you're ever craving that texture. read more

For $13, the portion was quite large, but I do wish there were more toppings. The house made noodles are satisfyingly chewy. I would have preferred soup a bolder soup with more depth, as it was kind of one dimensional. However, adding black vinegar helped elevate the dish a bit more to a hot and sour type flavor. Stopped by here after the San Gabriel Christmas festival and it was a good remedy for a chilly day. The noodles are VERY chewy, more than udon - which was a little much for me. JCHF Potato Noodle is a solid spot for noodles in San Gabriel and they have phenomenal fried chicken! I never had potato noodles before and was interested to try when recommended to come here by a friend, I was definitely not disappointed! The noodles are very different from wheat noodles and they are very soft and "QQ". This did make it a bit difficult to eat as I either had to take big mouthfuls or try to bite off the noodles which took a bit of effort but it was definitely worth it! The toppings that come with it are solid too, I liked the tofu skin, bok choy, and bit of seaweed! I didn't really like the meatball though and would recommend the fish balls instead. However, the main attraction was the fried chicken which was absolutely delicious! It has a really nice fry to it as it's crispy but flavorful and really supported the sweet soy taste it had! Definitely try the fried chicken if you go! The service wasn't too bad, it's a small restaurant and there aren't many workers which makes service slower than other large restaurants. We also ended up waiting around 30-40 minutes for a table since they only had around 6 that were all full and around 25-30 minutes for our food plus an additional 15 for the fried chicken to come out. Honestly wasn't even that bad of a wait but just something to keep in mind. The restaurant itself was small like I mentioned before and only has around 6 tables to sit at so it does feel a bit tight. They also have a small bar seating area too for solo diners but I'm not sure it gets used much since nobody was on it when we were there. Gas, hidden gem in my opinion. Their chicken bones is delicious. This side with a bowl of noodles is good enough for two people to be honest. The chicken "bones" which do have a decent amount of meat on it are fried to perfection and you can just chew and swallow the entire thing if you wanted. Started with the Spicy Black Fungus (酸辣小木耳) which was had a sharp sour and numb spicy flavor with a crisp texture. The main star of the show is the Special Handmade Potato Vermicelli (特色手工土豆粉) with handmade meatballs and all the veggies for toppings. The potato noodles had a really chewy noodles texture almost stretchy sitting in a hot and spicy broth. The meatball textures were quite werid and different than any other meatball I've tried before. This place is off the chain if you're a fan of potato noodles. IYKYK. Hidden in a strip mall with a US Navy recruiting station and a shady AF massage place as its neighbors, you might not expect to find delicious noods here. But once you enter this unassuming place, you can tell they're not playing around. The place was packed on a rainy day with Chinese people (not even Chinese-Americans) so you know it's the real deal. There's one lady running the show and she's absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of product she's offloading between dine-in and delivery, but nonetheless she makes sure you're taken care of and is quite warm. As for the food? It's really good. They make the noodles in house- I repeat IN HOUSE (none of that dried packaged business) and it shows in the texture of the noods. The broth slaps (tailored to your desired spicy level of course) and the portions are decent. Only gripe if I had to pick one is I wish there were some more add-ins, but I guess the main event is the noods after all. I never had potato noodles prior to this. I found this dish to be absolutely delicious during the cold snap in LA. My only issue with this location is their lack of non-spicy options for young children. Their soup has a significant kick but not overwhelming. The meatballs also had a strange texture that wasn't pleasing to eat. The plaza is a little difficult to get in and out of, but parking inside the plaza is plentiful.
