I was in the area and this place was on my yelp list of places to try so i stopped by to have lunch. Its a cash only spot with a few tables to eat. There was no cheer whatsoever in the customer service but they weren't rude either so I genuinely can't complain. I ordered pork and cabbage boiled dumplings, pork and chive fried dumplings and a scallion pancake to go eat in my car. I didn't get any soy or hot sauce so I ate the dumplings "dry" but they were far from!!! Like the boiled dumplings were dripping with their own broth. The wrapper was on the thicker side so one order of boiled dumplings is enough to fill you but it was so good, I couldn't stop. The pork and chive pan fried dumplings have a slight sweetness to them, not like syrup sweet but brioche or caramelized onion sweetness that I can't put my finger on but it's so good. Lastly, the scallion pancake, which looked like it would pale in comparison to the dumplings and didn't seem to have a ton of scallions sprinkled in but someway somehow there is so much scallion flavor in every single bite. It was soft and chewy and of course greasy Unrelated note: there was an angry customer who swore he didn't get the right change while the cashier swore he counted it twice infront of him. After going back and forth for a while, I'm guessing the manager went into his own wallet and gave the guy the money back himself and I thought that was really honorable. This WAS my go-to for quick, cheap, and tasty pan-fried noodles with a side of dumplings. However, that all went out the window once I found a cockroach in my noodles. There were no tables available because a tour group of 15+ arrived a little before I did. The lady that took my order was kind enough to make space by the side counter. Although I ordered after the group, I received my noodles and dumplings before the tour group did which was nice. I ordered the pan fried pork noodles along with pan fried pork chive dumplings. The noodles and the pork were good but halfway through the noodles is when I found a massive pan fried cockroach underneath the pile of veggies. I understand that NY has roaches and I get it. I've lived here all of my life and have had my share of roaches, but for a restaurant to serve you a roach!? that means there is an infestation. The roaches are probably all over the ingredients and the staff don't bother checking/washing beforehand. The lady that took my order by the counter saw the roach about the same time I noticed it. She quickly grabbed my plate, disposed of it, apologized and gave me a refund. Went here with my friends to try some NY Chinatown Dumplings. If you come here, note that it's cash only but there's an ATM outside thats available for use. I ordered the chives and pork dumplings, which in my opinion were pretty greasy and got tiring after a while since there wasn't a good sauce or anything to pair it with. Despite this, the price was great compared and I was able to get (16?) for only about $10. The store itself was pretty small (expected) and the tables and chairs were somewhat dirty. I didn't have breakfast that day so I was famished by lunchtime. Warm, pillowy dumplings on a drizzly day was my escape from the stuffy jury hall. Sadly, the dumplings lacked flavor and the thick, sloppy wrapper only added to the disappointment. With a crispy exterior and gooey dough, every bite has a salty kick from the amount of soy sauce I put all over them. I always think of dumplings as Chinese fast food, but it took a good 10 minutes to get my order. The hot and sour soup had a lot of corn starch in it, making it almost gelatinous. There are a few bottles of black vinegar and a Tabasco-style hot sauce on the tables. The long and short of it is: the dumplings are indeed tasty, the soup less so. Decided to give this place a try since the other dumpling place is very oily. Came on a raining monday during lunch time and the place was packed. I guess cheap lunch places are scarsed lol Dumplings are better than what I thought and 5 for $1.50 (fried ones & $5 for steamed) is really a good deal even though they don't look so appetizing. I ordered chicken corn soup and bean custard with scallions, which ended up being just cold tofu. I guess this why you stick with what they are known for and don't explore the menu.
