From my experience, the pork Xiao long bao have been the absolute best. They are soup dumplings, so they explode with flavor when you eat them! I just tried their pork wontons in a spicy sauce.. amazing! They are soft dumplings with bok choy in a spicy chili soup. I also tried the Dan Dan noodles, which I did like but I wished were more saucy. But that's my first time ever trying them, so I'm not sure if that's how they are typically prepared. When the weather is cold, rainy, and miserable, the hot food cravings are what most of us crave. This takes me on a journey to the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento where I had the opportunity in trying out "Tasty Dumpling". Located in the Crocker Village shopping center off of Sutterville Rd. and just a couple blocks away from Sacramento City College, this place has been dishing out tasting dumplings and other Asian-inspired dishes since the summer of 2021. This particular restaurant is in a relatively busy shopping center with a ton of other businesses, restaurants, and a Safeway grocery store. Which is why on any given day, parking can be a very challenging process. I came here during the afternoon of Sunday 2/26/2023 at around 2:30pm. The ordering process is fairly simple as you order your food at the front register while they provide you with a number and sit wherever you like. The inside is rather spacious with enough seating to accommodate at least 50 people. Each table includes condiments including soy sauce, vinegar, chopsticks, and spoons. Since I was starving, I ended up ordering the 8-piece of the D4 which is the Beef Steamed Dumplings. For my sides, I went with the N3 - Egg Fried Rice as well as the S7 - (two) Egg Rolls that have vegetables and chicken packed into them. I also opted for a Thai Iced Tea and helped myself with self-serve iced water. It was a busy Sunday afternoon but I still received my food in less than 10 minutes; first the egg rolls (with sweet/sour sauce) followed by the fried rice and dumplings. As far as the dumplings themselves, these are steamed and cooked to perfection; no issues here. There wasn't a ton of beef inside (compared to some of the other dumpling places I've been to in the Bay Area) but it was seasoned well. Overall it was a 3.5/5. The fried rice though, they did not disappoint as it was moist and flavored well. But the real winner was the egg rolls as these were crispy on the outside while being loaded with an abundance of chicken on the inside. The service itself was above average as several different waiters refilled my ice water. All in all, "Tasty Dumpling" is one of the better dumpling houses in the Sacramento area. Prices are reasonable (being around $30 for everything including drink, tax, & tip) while the ambiance itself was cozy and inviting. I definitely will make a future visit trying some of their other offerings down the road. With that said and done, I am giving Tasty Dumpling an above average four-star rating. read more

3.5/5 My first impression coming in was that the layout felt very familiar. A bit small of a restaurant, but they managed to fit in a line of tables to the left of the restaurant. Looked at the menu and was greeted rather slowly by the cashier. A server actually greeted us and told us that there would be approximately a 15 minute wait for the next available table and informed us that our order would be taken when we get seated. That didn't really happen. We were sat down at a table that was occupied earlier by a family. The table wasn't wiped down clean and we weren't given any menus to look at. We ended up taking a menu from the front counter which was already marked on and then walked back to the register to order our food. Ordered a Beef Wrap, pork & shrimp dumpling (ha gao), Xi an cold noodles, and pan fried juicy pork puns. My favorite dishes turned out to be the pan fried juicy pork buns and the pork & shrimp dumplings. Xi an cold noodles had flavor but just not enough and it was rather dry and the noodles were slightly overcooked. The beef wraps were also flavorful in some areas but not enough - overall, dry and flavorless. The wraps were crunchy but a little hard and fell apart easily. The pan fried pork buns and the pork & shrimp dumplings were very juicy and had a good texture. Pan fried pork burns were a little small in size but was satisfying inside. Overall, probably wouldn't come back to eat in person and would prefer ordering their dumplings over other dishes! read more

I got their spicy cold noodles and their pork and vegetables dumplings. Both dishes were good. The noodles were not overly spicy while the dumplings have a thin wrapper that compliments the filling well. Here is my two cents on the taste quantity and quality of Tasty Dumpling.. they were delivered by GrubHub in a timely manner. I ordered hot and sour soup, fried golden bun with condensed milk, pork bun, spicy pork Xiao long Bao & their version of Thai iced .. My order of hot and sour soup was just mediocre at best ... though it was thick it was just not that tasty not very hot not very sour.. My order of fried golden buns with condensed milk was just mediocre at best also .. The order of pork buns tasted just like the pork sausage that you would get from McDonald's breakfast sausage sandwich.. The spicy pork Xiao long Bao. was horrible.. Din Tai Fung meet your match. The Spicy Pork XLB's were definitely the star of the show. The dumpling had the perfect soup to meat ratio and the skin was just thin enough for optimal piercing but not too thin where it disintegrates when you try to pick it up. The spiciness added a much appreciated kick and surprised me with how spicy it actually was. I can't recall any dumpling place I've been to having this as an option which is crazy to me because it seems like such an easy inclusion. The beef rolls were to be as expected. Nothing too fancy, but at least the portion was good with 6 large rolls. The beef dumplings were slightly above average. I could've sworn they also had broth inside which was more than welcomed, and once again Tasty Dumpling hits it out of the park with their beef ratios, nothing to complain about there. As for the everything else, we went during a busy lunch time but were able to secure a table and within 5 minutes we received all of our items. I can also appreciate how the employees have uniforms with their restaurant branding as well as their plates too. Tucked away next to a Peet's coffee in the Safeway parking lot, you could easily pass by this place without noticing it. However, once inside, you're greeted by the delectable smells of fresh steamed and pan fried dumplings. Baskets of bamboo abound inside the kitchen which is visible from the front of house along with a dedicated team of dumpling makers. Everything was served hot and fresh. In fact, I recommend letting the dumplings cool off a bit before digging in. For the soup dumplings, I poked a hole in the side to let some of the steam out before eating it. We really enjoyed the soup dumplings and the pan fried were also really good. The vinegar sauce and chili oil were nice accompaniment. Will definitely return! I stopped by Tasty Dumpling while running errands for work and thought it would be the perfect lunch. I love dumplings of all kinds and my husband has just started branching out a bit so I decided to order enough for the two of us. I walked in and was greeted right away, I ordered the Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork & Shrimp Steamed Dumpling and Pork Potstickers. I took a seat while I waited for the to-go order and took in the space. The art on the wall is really fun and had instructions on how to eat Xiao Long Bao. It would be a cute place to dine in with friends. Once my order was ready, they wished me a good day and I went straight home. I liked that they had specific packaging for the steamed vs fried dumplings. They also packed chopsticks and sauces for us. Our favorite was the spicy pork Xiao Long Bao, followed by the postickers and then the shrimp and pork dumplings. Even after the car ride home the Xiao Long Bao were delicious with the soup inside. This is a dumpling place located in the Safeway plaza near Sac City College. It's small inside and seems popular. We had the pan fried juicy pork dumplings, beef roll, and braised beef brisket noodle soup. The dumplings and beef roll were ok. The dumplings were probably my slight favorite of the three, with a nice seared color on the bottom and moist and juicy inside. The beef roll looked too pale for my preference but tasted alright. I prefer a crunchier exterior so enjoyed it more when I pan fried the leftover roll at home. The soup wasn't as flavorful as we'd like. Overall we weren't wowed by what we had, but there were other items I saw on other tables that looked good. If we went back I would try something else like the soup dumplings. read more

I was surprised to see how busy it already was. After taking quite some time to look over the menu, we walked back up to the register to order. I went with the Shrimp and pork xiao long bao and the beef steamed dumplings. It was pretty busy so it took about 15-20 minutes to get our food and it comes out as it's made, not all together. It's a beef brisket though so more tendon like pieces. The XLBs were pretty good, thin skin with some juice inside. I really liked the potato salad side dish. It had a little kick of spice to it and the potato was a little crunchy. The cucumber was a little too sweet for me. The hot and sour soup tasted different to me. It was a lot less sour and spicy than usual. It had more of a salty flavor to it so I didn't love it, but my family liked it. The pan fried buns were pretty good. The xiao long bao, pork buns, and green beans were all tasty. The soup dumplings were among some of the better I've had in the area. I would order any one of those dishes again. The Dan Dan noodles we had were bizarre. They were ridiculously starchy with a very strange almost cardboard taste. They also arrived to the table Luke warm at best.
