Much better dumpling places in Houston such as wanna bao for example. The soup dumpling broth here wasn't that good and for the spicy wontons the wrapper was SO thick it wasn't enjoyable whatsoever. The only thing decent that we tried was the spicy beef noodle soup but considering everything else was below par I wouldn't come back for that either. We also tried the appetizer of famous chicken I think it's called and it wasn't as flavorful as I hoped. It was ok. Quite disappointed with this place considering some of the good reviews I've read. The fam wanted some dim sum on New Year's Day and we ended up choosing this place. Got beef rolls, pan fried pork buns, Xi'an spicy cold noodles, pork xiao long bao, and fried buns w/ condensed milk. Beef rolls: huge portion, but quantity over quality. Uneven hoisin sauce coverage; some pieces had a salty glob of it and others had none. Also the beef was really dry. Don't really recommend. Pan fried pork buns: photogenic little things but the fried bottoms just made them a little greasy to eat (they weren't crispy at all). I'd stick to just steamed dumplings. Xi'an spicy cold noodles: my favorite out of the bunch. Very tasty with the perfect balance of chili oil spiciness and tanginess from the vinegar. Yum yum. A non-spicy option is offered here. Pork xiao long bao: great xiao long bao bun size and like the soup amount in the buns.....buuut wasn't a fan of the taste. Too much MSG added into the pork filling. Big bummer as otherwise they could've been top-tier xiao long baos. Fried buns w/ condensed milk: buns tasted stale. They had the same hard crust like if you sit bread out for too long. .....I guess I do sound like a dim sum snob I'll admit lol. Overall I strongly recommend getting the Xi'an cold noodles. My friend and I went to Tasty Dumpling this afternoon for lunch. When we arrived there were two other parties. There isn't many tables but it's nice because then it doesn't feel overcrowded. It's counter service. We took a menu picked out what we wanted and my friend went to the counter order. At each table they had extra chopsticks, spoons, napkins, dumpling sauce, chili oil, vinegar, and I think soy sauce. We ordered (I forgot to take pictures): Cucumber salad it was light and refreshing. Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao the broth was so flavorful and there was so much of it. I didn't think it was spicy at all. It had some heat but didn't knock your socks off. If you want more heat add chili oil to it. Beef Streamed Dumpling. The beef in these was really tasty and they were a really good size. Pan Fried Juicy Pork Bun. These were so good. I dipped them in the chili oil with vinegar and added extra green onion. I was excited to finally try out Tasty Dumpling today! It seemed very similar to Journey to the Dumpling or Din Tai Fung, which I love so I was looking forward to this place. It's a pretty small place in the new Crocker Village shopping center. There is no table service and you order at the counter before sitting down. The place was almost full when we got there but people were finishing up so by the time we ate, we got a nice booth in the back away from the other tables. Our favorites were the spicy chili pork wonton, and the beef roll. The wontons were perfectly spicy. The beef roll was packed with meat. I just wish they left the lettuce out of it, seemed like an odd pairing and that part didn't fare well as leftovers. I wish it had a dipping sauce too like some other places but I just ended up using the vinegar. The beef brisket noodle soup was pretty good too. A fair amount of meat and a very generous amount of yummy chewy noodles. The shrimp and pork XLB was delicious, and they were huge! I wish it came with ginger though to pair with the vinegar. Our least favorite was the scallion pancake. There wasn't enough scallions at all and it was oily. The only plus side of it being so plain was that our baby could enjoy a couple bites. Definitely one of the nicer takeout Chinese spots we've been to. Plenty to love here! This surprising little restaurant serves up some rarified Asian fare that is hard to come by in our city of Sacramento. I'd say the main attraction has to be the xiao long baos that they have on the menu. If you're unfamiliar with what a xiao long bao is, it's a dumpling that is filled with hot soup and meat. When you bit into it, the soup comes out and makes for a unique eating experience. Just be careful though, as it is hot soup and can be very hot. I personally like scalding hot liquid in my mouth but that might not be for everyone. Xiao long bao is not something that you find often in Sacramento, so being able to enjoy it at Tasty Dumpling is definitely a treat. The menu is also full of noodle soup dishes and other Asian goodies. Another favorite of mine were the cold noodles. They are topped with cut cucumbers and are perfect on a hot summer day. Overall I'm very impressed with Tasty Dumpling and can see myself frequenting this restaurant often! read more

Tasty Dumpling shows up with the highest rating on Yelp! Let's go! When I'm in the shopping center, I find out the parking lot is jam-packed. I get lucky a car pulls out just right in front of me. I got parking not too far from Tasty Dumpling on a rainy day. Many customers wait in front of the cashier/order counter. Tasty Dumpling is a pay-first, and you get a number placed on your table restaurant. I got lucky again after I ordered my food. I got the last table :0) The dumplings are excellent. Came here a second time to try other things! Food came out pretty quickly, even around the lunch hour...like within 10 minutes. Service was very nice; someone brought us out utensils and water. He returned during our meal to give us more napkins. It was nice of them to bring extra bowls for us to share our noodle soup...some places might assume you aren't sharing the dishes you ordered. While you wait, you can watch at the side window where the workers can be seen making fresh noodles and dumplings! - braised brisket noodle soup - had a generous amount of bok choy for a noodle soup! It also came with some large chunks of lightly cooked Roma tomatoes and fresh cilantro. The brisket was pretty soft. They give you a generous amount of the thin noodles, which were soft and chewy. The soup was a bit spicy, which I enjoyed, but it's more of that low level Sichuan pepper kind of burn. Just be aware of the spice if you're ordering! - stir fried wide noodles - a bit greasy. Not as seasoned as I would have liked, or it just didn't have enough soy sauce, so I just added more myself. It came out with the wok char aroma, but like without the actual char. The noodles are fresh, so it seemed like they broke easily when it was stir fried...not bad, but not something I would really order again - pan fried juicy pork buns - if you've had the Journey to the Dumpling ones, this is basically the same! I'd probably choose Tasty Dumpling's because they have other great dishes you can get. It has soup in there, so make sure you get your technique down, otherwise if you bite quickly, the soup will explode everywhere on yourself and maybe the person dining across from you haha. Anyway, the pan fried part gives the bun a bit of a crisp, but chewy texture. The pork filling was soft and had some ginger, making it fragrant. I think you could eat this without extra sauce, but maybe the soy sauce or chili oil could be a nice touch. I feel like the vinegar overall is too acidic for me. Overall, this was probably my favorite of the 3 dishes we ordered today. I had my first visit to Tasty Dumpling for lunch this week and it was tasty indeed! I ordered online (super easy platform to order ahead) and my food was ready for me at the scheduled time it said it would be (which is easier said than done, much of the time!). Now onto the food itself - I ordered the pork xiao long bao and these perfect eight soup dumplings were just what I had hoped for. So comforting and delicious inside, soft, supple dumpling skin on the outside. Just oozing hot soup liquid! I ate the first four and probably could have stopped - but when you get eight, come on... I finished it off. They were fantastic. I regret nothing. The meal just cleared my head and made me want to take a nap! I will be back here again to try more of the menu. Dumplings made fresh on site! Through the window to the kitchen, you can see that the staff use flour to make the actual dumplings and noodles on site, fresh. It's also obvious when they serve the dumplings, that the dumplings are fresh because they taste fresh. The dumplings are always served hot with steam coming out, and the bamboo containers always look clean. The bao buns are also made fresh from flour, and taste super fresh when served steaming hot out of the bamboo containers. I don't think I've even eaten fresh baos like this--even when I when to visit Asia, the so-called "fresh" baos are usually pre-made and pre-steamed and kept warm until you order it. I have never ate baos at a place where they steam it the moment you order. It tastes really good. The xian spicy flat noodles also taste great, with just the right amount of spiciness. Mostly because their spice sauce is pretty well made. The beef noodle soup is also not bad. Inside, the place is kept super clean. The staff are also very friendly. The place is located right across from Safeway & not very big, but comfy. Pics of dumplings all over the wall will make you hungry, lol. A good variety of dumplings to choose from & you can see dumplings made in their open kitchen. So you know they are freshly made & not frozen. We didn't like the beef roll since the wrapping is over dry (crispy tortilla) & so are the ingredients inside. Will be better if they comes with some hoisin sauce. My husband's aunt influenced us to try the dumplings here after our go-to spot was closed. She recommend the following (and we got it all): - xiao long baos - pan fried dumplings - pork and shrimp steamed dumplings - green beans - cold noodles - scallion pancakes - sesame balls - steamed pork buns Everything was tasty, but my favorites were the steamed pork and shrimp dumplings and the pan fried dumplings. The porch and shrimp had such a great flavor without the juicy soup inside, and I love how the pan fried dumplings were juicy (prepare for them to squirt!). I was hesitant to order from this establishment due to the mixed reviews and poor customer service. However, I am glad that I decided to try the food/service for myself. My take out order was ready by the time I arrived. The restaurant was very busy. All the tables were taken and there were people waiting to dine in. My wife and I had ordered the pork xiao long bao, pan fried pork crispy soup buns, and dan dan noodles. The reason for 3 stars was because I was disappointed in the misrepresentation of the menu labels regarding the dan dan noodles and the lack of good customer service when I inquired information of whether or not the dish was spicy. It was very spicy and the menu did not indicate the chili pepper icon like it did for some of the other items. I've had dan dan noodles that were sweet and salty, and some spicy, so I asked the person who took my order at the counter if the dan dan was spicy and he ignored me and just put the order in. Since he didn't say anything, I assumed it wasn't since on the menu it didn't have the chili pepper symbol. Boy was I wrong after I took a bite. I tried to not waste the food and eat as much as I could, but it was just way too spicy that I ended up just leaving over half a bowl left on the table. Truly disappointed that I spent money on a dish that I wouldn't have bought if I knew it would be that spicy. Even if I did want it spicy, I felt like the spice level was not appropriate for that dish. I can eat things like Thai Green curry that has a high spice level, but this was just too much in my opinion. Yaaaay another spot in Sacramento that has XLB! I went to Tasty Dumpling twice in a week, so you know it's good. Their pork XLB are filled with lots of flavorful soup, the pork is delicious, and the skins are thin. Yum! They bring you ginger and they have black vinegar and soy sauce on the table. The pan fried juicy pork buns are also delicious, though I prefer the XLB. The bottoms were almost a little too crispy for me so they're more difficult to eat. The braised beef brisket noodle soup was flavorful and the portion was generous. My brother in law said it's the best he's had! I wasn't a huge fan of the coconut dessert - it was a little bland for me and I can make better lol but that's nice that they have a dessert available. This is a very casual spot with many standard dumplings and cold noodle options that is great if you just need a quick bite to eat. This dumpling spot is located in a plaza right by a community college so it can get quite busy. I came on a weekend in the afternoon. While they seemed to be quite busy with to-go orders, the cashier still managed to quickly take my order and I found a place to sit. I was surprised when my food came out within 5-10 minutes of being seated. 6/10 Xiao Long Bao- I ordered the soup dumplings to see how it compared to other dumpling spots in the area and thought the food just tasted... okay. It was a little salty for my liking and found myself needing to drink a lot of water in between bites. Other than that, the filling had good flavor and was nicely filled. It also smelled delicious. 5/10 Dandan Noodles- The dandan noodles I ordered also had decent flavor. However, considering this is traditionally a "chili oil" type dish, it was not at all spicy. That threw me off a little bit. I am use to a bit more heat to balance out the meat sauce that the dandan noodles usually comes with. I would not order this dish again. Overall? Tasty Dumpling may still be in their soft opening phase, but they are off to a fine start in my book. Located in the busy Crocker Village shopping center, it's a fast casual kind of place with some indoor seating. It's a good thing those bamboo steamers stack because our group of 4 quickly covered the small table with an array of dumplings and side dishes. For me, the big standout was the delicious vegetarian (actually vegan) dumplings that are stuffed full of mushrooms, cabbage, carrots and tofu. These are twice the size and pack so much more flavor than the veggie dumplings at Journey to the Dumpling, they are in a league all their own. So fresh- they were some of the best vegan dumplings I've had in a really long while. Unfortunately, none of the vegan items are clearly indicated on the menu so I had to ask several questions of the staff. They were friendly and helpful, but I really hope they consider throwing some V's (for vegan) on that menu to help us plant-based folks out. The cucumber salad tasted good but the presentation was sloppy and needed to be chopped more. Veggie eggrolls were nothing special and I would pass on those. The Thai iced tea is (sadly) made with half and half so I couldn't order one - I wish they made it traditional with coconut milk. The Xi'an cold noodles, however, were vegan by default and spicy - I'd definitely order those again. You can view the dumplings being made fresh in the visible kitchen behind a large glass window. Bonus: Track 7 and Fountainhead breweries are down the street. I'm elated to have a solid spot for vegan dumplings and plan to be back soon. read more

Came at 8pm on a Thursday and there were plenty of tables available. We ordered steamed soup dumplings, pan-fried soup dumplings, beef noodle soup, cold noodles in chili sauce and stir-fried string beans. The cold noodles came out within 6 minutes and the other dishes followed shortly after. The soup dumplings were our favorite. The pan fried dumplings were tasty, but a little on the small side. The beef noodle soup was flavorful, but the noodles were overcooked. I haven't had issues with their beef noodle soup a in the past, so maybe they were just having an off night. Tasty Dumpling has only been opened for a couple of weeks now and we been here twice already. We dined in both times and overall we are happy with the quality of food and service. So far we tried all three kinds of Pork soup dumplings (XLB- regular, spicy, and pork and shrimp), pan fried dumplings, chili wontons, steam and pan fried potstickers, cream cheese wonton, fried rice, beef roll, and green onion pancake. I would say hands down the best items are the XLB, both regular and spicy. The other items are good too but XLB was our favorite! As for the service, you need to order and pay at the counter first and they will give you a number and will bring your dishes to you. We did have to ask them for water and small plates when we dined in. They are a new restaurant so we were patient with the service. I've ordered takeout from Tasty Dumpling many times, and I'd have to say that the flavors are not always consistent - though it's not to say that that's a bad thing. Pork Wonton Soup: this soup always taste slightly different every time we get it, but it's still good. The most recent time it was a tad bit too tangy as if they put a little too much vinegar into it. Although, they've definitely upgraded their packaging because the soup came in a two-in-one container that had a tray for the dumplings nestled over the bowl of soup. Pork XLB: these are pretty decent for soup dumplings in Sacramento. When I'm unable to visit Elk Grove for better ones, the ones here usually suffice. read more

However, I do not like having to wait at the restaurantt for 40+ minutes after placing a pickup order 6:05 - order placed with 15.mineta 6:15-i arrive and pay, I see that my order has 2 dumpling dishes already out of 5. 6:20- 2 more dumplings are ready. 7:00- last dish, which was the only non dumpling comes out My order, #70, was skipped as dozens of orders get filled, many of them largeish orders like mine. It was by 80 something I decided to check the progress of my food. My last dish they were waiting on had been sitting on the counter for who knows how long. I think like 15 mins plus? Before they give me my food I check the temps of the containers of dumplings and the bottom 2 are already cold. The mid 2 are getting there. I tell the cashier my food is cold and he says I'm so sorry. I tell him that it sat there for 40 minutes and he says I'm so sorry. I'm home now and my pan fried dumplings are obviously no longer "pan fried". The rest of my dumplings are either cold dry and brittle or a soggy mess of dumplin skin. Hate that I tipped for this. My new go-to spot for authentic Chinese dumpling house! This restaurant is a newer addition to the Crocker Village area, and ever since trying it 2 months ago, we have been back for either dine-in or take-out at least once a week. The prices are extremely reasonable, the food always made fresh, and the service fast. They are also available on Doordash. First things first- the main attraction is xiao long bao (小籠包- what the kids call "soup dumplings" on the Internet these days). The quality and flavor of the XLBs and spicy XLBs rival many of the dumpling restaurants in the Bay Area/peninsula. The XLB skins are made fresh- you can even watch them roll the dough from the viewing window. The XLB skins contain the perfect amount of elasticity - being able to pick them up with chopsticks without the skin ripping is the mark of a legit XLB. The beef roll here is delicious- and fills the void that Yang's Noodle left in my heart. Other items we love include the wontons in spicy sauce (紅油炒手), garlic stir fried green beans (四季豆), and beef noodle soup (牛肉麵).
