New Hong Kong Waffles for dessert.
    Tanya L.

If you like Hong Kong style Chinese food, this place is rather authentic. We go here when craving some Chinese food that's less oily or salty. We've enjoyed everything we've gotten so far. They just added Hong Kong waffles with ice cream for dessert so I'm super excited for those! This place is casual but kinda pricey. It's good quality food so I'm not disappointed but you're getting fast service with not too much attention. Bring your loud kids and they'll fit right in.

Great Chinese restaurant in Irvine located in a large plaza with tons of parking. It's a great spot to come with friends or a larger group, especially if you want to order family-style and share a variety of dishes. We ordered the wonton soup, beef chow fun, and a few items from the dim sum menu. Everything came out quickly and tasted great. The roasted duck and pork are also definitely worth ordering. & of course have to get a Chinese donut as an appetizer. The service is always friendly and kind, and the overall experience is easy and enjoyable. I really like coming here and will definitely be back!

This is my family's to go spot for hong kong food. They never miss (except once the food was too salty). My favorite comfort food here is their chinese broccoli (gai lan), they made the veggies so delicious and flavorful, plus the wonton noodles. 4/5 because I wish there were more wontons in the wonton noodle dish. There's 5 and then a ton of noodles. I assume most people do family style when eating at a restaurant like this, so at least 6-8 would be nice given the volume of noodles.

Paying people for writing good reviews. As a long time vendor on Amazon, I absolutely hate this kind of practice. Shame, I liked their food.

I came back to Tasty Spot Cafe to try their other dishes and they did not disappoint. All the dim sum items were available at dinner during this visit. I love the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, the black cod with black bean sauce and the braised tofu with roasted pork hot pot. The staff were friendly and checked in as needed (you can flag any of them; all are willing to help). The ambiance is casual, bright and comfortable.

The service and value of this location is one of the better Cantonese cafes in Irvine. The unlimited refill for Hong Kong style milk tea and also lemon tea is the best. I would definitely recommend the Taiwan cauliflower and try Cantonese bbq.

I come here with my family all the time - its the best Chinese food around the area. The staffs would help you customize dishes to your request and willingly replace a dish if you're not satisfied. Clean restaurant, highly recommended!

I really like the dimsum here, especially the shrimp dumplings and shiumai. Also, the shrimp and eggs were good as well.

Service is great and fast !! Kids friendly, the food always tastes good here. Dimsum is a must if you want small meals for brunch or after school. My favorite dishes here are dessert in authentic Asian style:)

Ask the Community - Tasty Spot Cafe

Do they serve breakfast at the Irvine location? What are the hours on Saturday?

They do! It's from 9am to 11:30 am

Do they still serve dim sum?

Yes, we had No Mai Gai and Siu Mai this past Sunday. There is a separate dim sum menu, no carts.

Are they still closed for renovations?

According to their website, they are closed until Summer 2023.

Does anyone know when the soft opening will end?

Think another 6 months at least

Is there anything for vegetarians here?

Egg Tofu w/ Assorted Mushrooms Vegetable Chow Mein (crispy or soft noodle) Chow Fun (ask for no meat)…

    Can you order food online?

You can order through Yelp, but when I did it, I didn't know they were closed for renovations and I still got charged. I'd call first to make sure they're open, and you can order ahead.

Do they have the HK style toast?

There are a few Canto cafés around here, but this one is definitely one of our favorites. Dim sum is pretty easy to find, but authentic Cantonese cafés are much more of a rare find. The lower reviews are probably due to the service, but in my opinion, a truly authentic Cantonese restaurant should have questionable service because that's exactly what you get at the good places in Hong Kong. The philosophy in Hong Kong is basically "food over service." If they're being too nice, they're probably overcompensating for something haha. Getting either the hot or iced milk tea or lemon tea is a MUST. It's the traditional way to do it, and they even offer unlimited refills! Just be warned that you might not sleep that night because Hong Kong-style tea is no joke when it comes to caffeine. Pro tip: If you get the lemon tea, you have to crush the lemons into the tea to get the right flavor! My friends and I are regulars here. They're open late, and the ambiance is so fun, with tables decorated with mahjong tiles and neon lights that basically scream Asia. The food is top tier and, in my opinion, some of the best Cantonese food you'll find in the U.S. Our go-to orders are the tomato baked rice dishes, stir-fried vegetables, 3-cup dishes, and brisket curries. For something sweet, we always share the classic Cantonese French toast with peanut butter inside or one of the pineapple buns. Definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for an authentic Canto café experience! :)

And what a happy accident that turned out to be. If you're searching for a super authentic Cantonese restaurant, look no further. This is the REAL DEAL, and you'll be able to tell the moment you walk in. The atmosphere sets the tone immediately: pineapple buns displayed on a shelf by the entrance, wall decor showcasing the Hong Kong waterfront and all its buildings, and a back section that carries the waterfront theme even further with a Macau setting. Step inside and all you hear is Cantonese. They even mimicked a train station in the back, where the windows let you peek into the kitchen. Little touches like this are everywhere -- I loved the decor. Now onto the food. The menu is extensive and I wanted to try everything, but I always gravitate toward brisket since it's something I never manage to make at home. I got the brisket over lo mein and it was tender to the fork and full of flavor, with a really good sauce coating the fresh noodles. My husband ordered the cheung fun; he found it a touch too chewy, but still tasty. We also got the century egg and pork jook with a Chinese donut, and it tasted just like home. To drink, I had the lemon tea done the Hong Kong way -- made just right with fresh lemons -- and an HK milk tea that arrived in the classic original milk tea mug, exactly how they serve it back in Hong Kong. The details are what really sealed it for me. The tables feature mahjong tiles set into them, which felt so authentic, and instead of table mats they use Chinese newspaper complete with real estate ads and all. Very Hong Kong. Service was good and friendly, parking was plentiful, and the value was excellent. I love this place and can't wait to come back. 5 stars!

I feel like this Irvine based Chinese restaurant is so much like the LA "Chinatown" restaurants that are legitimate! In a span of two weeks, I have been here 3 times! I had two dinners and one lunch. Each dinner ordered their most popular "Sheng Jian Bao" a.k.a. Shanghai Grilled Pork Buns. They are beautifully prepared with sesame seeds sprinkled at the top and grilled into the base. The inside pork filling has the delicious juices, so make sure you eat this carefully and don't lose all the meat juices. Another delicious old school Chinese dish I had was the Crispy Fish Fillet with Seaweed. The fried dough has seaweed in it, so the flavor is so good. Dip this with some black vinegar... *chef's kiss* So gooood, too! The third memory lane Chinese dishes I had so far that was delightful was the Shanghai Rice Cakes. This tasted exactly how a lot of Montrey Park, Arcadia, and San Gabriel restaurants make them. The only thing about rice cakes is that reheating them is not as good, so try to eat this and not have a doggy bag. So today for lunch I ordered the Shanghai Kao Fu... and O... M... G... sooooo goooood! This is totally my favorite cold appetizer. It has the soybean product, woodear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, peanuts, and this veggie that I have no idea what it is called. So on point to authentic Shanghai Chinese food! The overall guest service is very Chinese-Irvine. They are stoic, but get the job done. You tell them how delicious the food is and they nod in acceptance (reminds me of my dad lol). Parking is super easy. It is in an Irvine Company shopping Plaza. Plenty of spaces. Totally safe area. The only thing that ducks is that in the afternoon, the sun beats down on the restaurant. It gets warm in there and the window seats are hot during the summer. In the end, I am 100% okay with their service and simple ambiance. The food is where it makes the experience worth it. I cannot wait to go back and try more dishes that remind me of my childhood.
