Addicted and in love! This is the kind of restaurant that is giving me my childhood memories of having dinner with my grandparents in Monterey Park / Arcadia. I feel like this Irvine based Chinese restaurant is so much like the LA "Chinatown" restaurants that are legitimate! In a span of two weeks, I have been here 3 times! I had two dinners and one lunch. Each dinner ordered their most popular "Sheng Jian Bao" a.k.a. Shanghai Grilled Pork Buns. They are beautifully prepared with sesame seeds sprinkled at the top and grilled into the base. The inside pork filling has the delicious juices, so make sure you eat this carefully and don't lose all the meat juices. Another delicious old school Chinese dish I had was the Crispy Fish Fillet with Seaweed. The fried dough has seaweed in it, so the flavor is so good. Dip this with some black vinegar... *chef's kiss* So gooood, too! The third memory lane Chinese dishes I had so far that was delightful was the Shanghai Rice Cakes. This tasted exactly how a lot of Montrey Park, Arcadia, and San Gabriel restaurants make them. The only thing about rice cakes is that reheating them is not as good, so try to eat this and not have a doggy bag. So today for lunch I ordered the Shanghai Kao Fu... and O... M... G... sooooo goooood! This is totally my favorite cold appetizer. It has the soybean product, woodear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, peanuts, and this veggie that I have no idea what it is called. So on point to authentic Shanghai Chinese food! The overall guest service is very Chinese-Irvine. They are stoic, but get the job done. You tell them how delicious the food is and they nod in acceptance (reminds me of my dad lol). Parking is super easy. It is in an Irvine Company shopping Plaza. Plenty of spaces. Totally safe area. The only thing that ducks is that in the afternoon, the sun beats down on the restaurant. It gets warm in there and the window seats are hot during the summer. In the end, I am 100% okay with their service and simple ambiance. The food is where it makes the experience worth it. My daughter wanted Asian foods so we decided to try Tasty Noodles. The restaurant is a typical Asian place with about 12 tables. The lady that waited on us was nice and she recommended couples of good dishes. The Shang Hai bao was tasty, the xiao long bao was good. For the price - it is quite good! I appreciated the quantity and quality of the food. It's perfect for families and friends - just grabbing a nice meal together. We did a birthday dinner here. My friend spoke Chinese, so we ordered with less oil, not too salty, no MSG, no tapioca starch in the soup or stir fry, etc. I am sure they loved us picky eaters. Well the food came out and it was very healthy tasting. The customized our order to be more healthy. We had a great time. There were 3 servers. Staple taiwanese dishes are my comfort food, but the braised pork belly didn't taste as good as it did before. The other dishes also seemed like a miss this time except for the green bean with pork and spicy beef noodle. - Crispy Seaweed Fish: the crisp was nice and the seaweed was fragrant, but it seems the flavor is easily masked by the heavier flavors of other dishes. - Cumin Lamb: the lamb was waaay too fatty. Every bite was too soft and chewy, or it would have a tendon or something tough in it. I was expecting a slightly more dry/lean cut. - Braised Pork w Preserved Vegetables: this dish in general is one that I always look to since I love fatty pork, BUT, this one was too dry. I tried to remedy it with the sauce underneath but it didn't help much. Will say it's still tasty though. There was too much preserved veggies. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I don't know why Tasty Noodle House doesn't have a higher Yelp rating. This is one of our regular Chinese restaurants. Their dumplings are always good (order steamed/boiled ones if you don't want their super oily grilled pork buns or potstickers0. Other faves are their preserved vegetables and fish noodle soup, black pepper seafood rice cakes, Shanghai style chow mein, and spicy fish with tofu on rice. Prices are pretty reasonable. The only reason why I don't give it five stars is because the food can be very greasy. read more

Their pan fried buns which are featured was just grease balls. So oily and not delicious couldn't even finish one. Their Shanghai noodle was good. Their pan fried onion cake was not authentic. I don't even know what that was. I ordered string beans and they brought out a heavily sauced dish with eggplants. The restaurant had a very unappetizing pink wall color. I love Shanghainese food. Located in Culver Plaza near Ranch 99. Plenty of parking in the front. I like coming here for their Chinese food. It's not too Americanized and it still has some Hong Kong/Taiwan/Chinese flavor. I typically get their house rice wine chicken dish as an appetizer and the Shanghai pan fried rice cake. Both were good and made fresh but too salty!!! Their basil seafood fried rice was good and large portion so that was good. Even when I asked for low salt content it was still over the top. Service was ok. My fiancé and I love coming here. The juicy pan fried buns and sautéed snake gourd with dried mini shrimp are our favorites. The food comes out quickly expect for a 20 min wait for the buns, but those buns are worth it! This place is always relatively busy but we never have to wait more than 20 minutes. read more

Came here on a whim, but loved every dish that we ordered. Service is fast and your food comes out even faster. While the interior isn't strongly decorated the atmosphere is still pretty warm and friendly. The xiao long bao has a thin dumpling skin, which makes the soup in the meat filling much more satisfying to bite into and the stir fried green beans, according to my mom, are very true to the original dish. Fair bit of vegetarian/vegan options here and they label them on the menu clearly. The vegan noodles look pretty boring though so I didn't even get noodles despite the namesake. Kao Fu (4/5) - pretty solid with good amounts of wheat gluten but a bit on the sweeter side. I know this dish does traditionally have some sweetness but I think it was a tad too much. Stinky Tofu (5/5) - wasn't labeled vegan but I got it without pork so hope that was enough! I just missed stinky tofu so much. Not many places serve it so this was a surprise. Very salty and savory but I haven't in a while so maybe it is supposed to be. Still very tasty! We ordered the #11 Shanghai Grilled Pork Bun, #25 pumpkin pancake, #34 spicy cucumber salad, #26 spicy marinated mix, and #29 roasted pomfret. The pork bun was fluffy with a crispy bottom and a juicy interior. The pumpkin pancake was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, like rice cake. Our initial plan was to go to Din Tai Fung but the wait was too long! We have a tasty noodle house in San Diego so we decided to check this one out since it wasn't on the way home from Anaheim. I would give Tasty Noodle 3.5 stars but rounded to 4 stars. This is my second time here and the dishes I ordered the last time were consistent in flavor. The mushroom and eggplant dish with basil is always fantastic. The vegetables taste fresh and the hint of basil is so tasty. The pan fried pork buns are also very good. The value is excellent compared to others restaurants as you get 8 buns for $13.50. Crunchy bun with tasty filling and soup inside. The order is made to order so you need to place the order as soon as you sit down and it'll probably be the last dish you get while eating. The other two dishes were not too bad either but the stir fried rice cakes were too sweet. I'm not sure if the chef mistook sugar for salt? The rice cakes were nice and tender though. The fish noodle soup was also not too bad. The noodles seemed to be homemade as well. The fish was tender and not fishy tasting. The restaurant is located in a strip mall so there is plenty of parking. It is also not that large, it may be able to seat around 50 people. It is a very casual eatery. Food smelled amaazing! The menu was pretty big and overwhelming. Everything was good, but my favorite was the Grilled Pork Buns. Juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Salt Pepper Pork Chops were better the next day, not sure why! Lamb in Cumin sauce was really good but would go better with some rice. You can fit probably two more people at the ends but it would be tight and the table would not be able to hold lots of food plates unless they joined another table. Shang hai pork buns takes 20-25 minutes to prepare. They were decent but so many other carb options to choose from. Shanghainese style cuisine. We tried the wonton soup (soup itself was very mild and comforting, the wonton has thicker skin and tasty fillings), shanghai style chow mein noodles (great, had a charred complex taste, well cooked), pan fried string beans (well cooked, crunchy and gleaming with oil), A-choy sautéed and stir fried with garlic (my favorite dish so far!- I couldn't stop eating it, crunchy oily and perfectly flavorful- I could eat it all day and maximize my greens intake). We also ordered roasted pomfrets (totally not a fan and can do without). Same with the spicy marinated mix, didn't love it and had a peppercorn numbing effect afterwards. There are soo many delicious options. I can't wait to come back to try the other items on the menu. They also offer dim sum dishes. Overall great meal, service is quick. The place is clean and simply decorated. The beef noodle soup flavor was good and a little spicy but the meat was hard to chew and a bit dry. The rice cakes had good wok flavor but there wasn't that much meat or vegetables. The pork buns had a little bit of juice but some of them were already popped and they did take much longer than the rest of the dishes to come out. Everything was fresh and affordable, which hits my expectations for what I look for at a restaurant. The ladies spoke English and Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese. I took my friends here to try it out for lunch. Only con is it takes awhile for the baos to come out, at least 20 minutes after you order. Cannot comment on service or ambiance as I ordered takeout. I have never been let down more by a restaurant. The baozi had thick outer layer, without the crunchiness at bottom that characterises shengjianbao. The roasted pork was mediocre and it was the best out there. The hot and sour soup was a total letdown, failing to be accurate in flavour, and the meicaikourou was the absolute worst, with incredibly dry and stringy meat and flavourless vegetables. In fact, the flavour letdown can be described very simply: it's as bad as pre-pared food. I will bet actual money the meicaikourou was frozen and just reheated, there is no other way to replicate that level of dryness in the meat. Would never order again, would never recommend to anyone. After I placed my order, I was repeatedly told to come back in 25 minutes, without any explanation. The restaurant was mostly empty, but I was not allowed to sit and wait. Only later did the staff say it was because of "reservations." I asked if I could leave when the reservation arrived, but the staff ignored my question and walked away to the back kitchen. We revisited this eatery on a Sunday around 11:00 am. We were a bit early and had to wait several minutes before opening. It was empty at that time but seats were filling up fast. By the time we finished our meal, there wasn't a single table available. We ordered their signature grilled bun first thing before we even seated as they would take a while to serve the order. Of the dozen or so items we ordered, the egg plant was good, the pork's hock with house spices was tasty. The string bean was OK, so was the Shanghai pan fried rice cake. The braised port and tofu skin in soy sauce was a bit plain. The vegetable with fish soup came piping hot but had few fish bits. The crispy fish fillet with seaweed and the walnut shrimp were OK! The house sauce with pork noodle was a bit on the sweet side. The grilled buns were not as good as our last visit so it's a bit of a disappointment.
