Relative to the other DFC's, I believe this one upholds the chain reputation. Quality of food is good, and is satisfying for anyone craving HK style cafe cuisine. Interior is bright and new still (not sure when it opened) so it's welcoming and warm. It certainly can get busy for breakfast so come earlier. Parking is plentiful. I had no issues with service of the waiters. Try one of the porridges, it comes with choice of fried dough, rice roll, or chow mien. There aren't many good authentic Chinese restaurants in south OC but this is one of the closest I've found to my old favorite Sam Woo. It's located in the same plaza as Zion market. The restaurant is spacious and super casual. It's so laidback, they even still have Christmas decorations up and it's May. We came on Saturday around 2pm and were seated right away. It looked like we had just missed the lunch rush. The service was fast, from taking our order to getting our food. You can order individual dishes but it's better to order family style and share. We got the Beef Stew Wonton Noodle Soup ($16.95), Beef Chow Fun ($16.95), Singapore Style Vermicelli ($17.95), Two Delicacy Combination Plate ($18.95), Shanghai Juicy Dumplings ($7.95) and Sticky Rice ($7.95). This was a good amount for 4 people and we had leftovers. Their beef wonton soup was flavorful and comforting. I would come back just for that. The beef chow fun was pretty standard. The Singapore noodles were good if you like spicy. I enjoyed the crispy pork in our combination plate even though it was fatty. The duck was tasty but the meat quality wasn't the best. I would skip the Shanghai dumplings. They weren't juicy and only came with 4 pieces instead of 5 like in the photo. If you're in the area, this is a decent option for Cantonese style Chinese food. I was craving Peking duck so we decided to try this place out. It was packed for a Saturday morning and they had a lot of great American and Taiwanese breakfast deals and dim sum available. We ordered: Sticky rice with chicken - comes with 2 sticky rice wrapped in tea leaves. The sticky rice was so fragrant and the chicken was good. Peking duck - we ordered half duck to try since it was $40! A bit pricey as other places charge $40 for a whole duck. The duck was flavorful but on the dry side and wasn't worth forking out $40 for such a small portion. Milk tea - love that they serve milk tea here, either iced or hot with free refills! Overall, service was very slow and it was also very packed and crazy in the restaurant. As a Southeast Asian, my standards for HK style food aren't quite in the best context. But I will say that it was a good sign that I came on a random Wednesday at ~6PM, and the place is packed with multiple generations of people enjoying what seems to be mostly classic HK food. There are a few foods that are culturally questionable on the menu (ie some American/Italian foods), and I'm curious what happens when somebody orders them. Regardless, everything we had was great and unexpected in a plaza that focuses more on Korean groceries and restaurants. Of note, I've seen some reviews commenting on the coldness of the servers. Honestly, that's a good sign for these types of restaurants as the focus is more on efficiency and food quality, not "hospitality." My one star off isn't for that, it's really more held hostage until I get to try more of their unexpected items on the menu. read more

I like their house specialty lobster. Unlike the typical lobsters served in SoCal that have two large claws, this one is a "Spiny Lobster" (or "彩龙" as they call it) without claws. The waiter mentioned it was on special for $38/lb, with an additional $10 for noodles. The chef's stir-fry technique was impressive - the heat control was perfect, as evidenced by how the noodles didn't release any liquid even as we were finishing the dish. This is a stark contrast to XX Garden's overly starchy, goopy plates. The roasted pork belly didn't meet my expectations - perhaps they should have used suckling pig, though they do offer that by special pre-order. The roasted cauliflower was delicious. The claypot rice had good flavor but was served in an aluminum pot rather than traditional clay, which concerns me for health reasons, so I won't order it again. I'm giving it a bump up to 5 because it was more enjoyable to eat here than other casual Chinese restaurants. Food: 5 Three Delicacy Combination Platter allows you to pick 3 of the BBQ options. We opted for BBQ pork, crispy roasted pork, and soy sauce chicken. All 3 were well cooked and not dry. The roast pork skin was indeed crispy and the 5 spice marinade was not too strong. After my initial visit, I haven't been back. I was sick and didn't want to drive too far for Chinese food so I decided to give the place another try. Surprisingly the place has expanded its menu. I'm definitely liking the menu. My late husband's favorite was the Shrimp with Scrambled Egg chow fun. I was excited to see that they offered that. It's one of the dishes I've been ordering besides the usual beef chow hor. Besides the usual Chinese dishes, I was surprised to see they have the claypot rice. Granted I haven't tried it yet but one of these days, I plan to. The prices might seem a little shocking to some but in Irvine, it seems to be a norm. As with most Hong Kong style cafes, there were western and Chinese style breakfast combos at a reasonable price point with free refillable milk tea/ coffee / lemon tea / coffee & milk tea. There were some hit and miss items that we tried: Good: DFC Wonton Noodle Soup $14.95 (paired with HK Style Bun w/ butter, steamed rice noodle rolls, or choy sum): The noodle was a bit too al dente for me, but the broth was light and flavorful; wonton was good too. Seafood Congee $14.95 (paired with Chinese donut, steam rice roll, or fried noodles): the congee was very homey and comforting, and the portion was good for 4 people to share. It was a GIANT bowl of congee. However, the stir fried noodles and HK Style bun with butter were okay, not bad, but not wowing. Mixed feeling: Satay beef with instant noodles $14.95 (paired with HK style bun with butter) - this was a bit odd for me as I've never had pineapples and bell peppers in my noodle soup before. The first few tastes of the broth were good, but got tired of the flavor quickly. However, there were a lot of beef in the noodle soup. This is a Cantonese restaurant in the Northwood area of Irvine. I would give 4 stars for the food and 3 stars for the service as our waitress did quite a bit of upselling. The food is very good for Orange County. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are fair. We ordered a vermicelli, chow fun, clay pot rice, tofu, eggplant, fish with black bean sauce and the 3 BBQ combination platter. All dishes were tasty. I'm happy to have found a local place with good Chinese BBQ. Since Sam Woo has closed, I have been looking for a good BBQ place and this place is pretty good. The roast duck has crispy skin and tender meat, the char siu is tasty and the crispy pork has very crisp skin. My only complaint would be the crispy pork was about 80% fat and 20% protein. This restaurant is located in a strip mall with the Zion market. There is plenty of parking and we didn't have a wait as we made reservations. The host was friendly as was the wait staff that brought our dishes to the table. The noise level was quite high as I had to elevate my voice to talk to the person across from me. However, the server was rude, made several mistakes, and clearly was afraid of getting in trouble, when she asked us not to send back an incorrect order (we asked for an item without the meat, since we had a vegetarian in our group). Have been here before and after the reopening. I was hoping they would begin to serve Dim Sum after the re-opening, but they still don't, so that's a bummer. I have always gotten take out from here. It's not the most convenient, as they don't have an online order system for this location, so you have to call in, and they don't always answer the phone. No complain about the food tho, it's HK style cafe, and food is always good. Price is high but it seems comparable to Tasty Garden. On our most recent visit, we found a rock in the fried rice that we ordered. Not sure how it got in there. The xo sauce seafood fried rice barely had any seafood in there. TLDR: A Cantonese style cafe that has all the favorites one would need when trying to mimic Hong Kong. The food is more expensive that its cousin from Monterey Park, but it still maintains the good quality and taste. Baked rice Seafood and Chicken: I'm gonna combine these 2 since the core of the dish is the same for both. You get a good amount of rice that has no shortage in sauce. The chicken version offers 2 solid pieces of thigh that could really be eaten in 2 meals. The seafood version doesn't skimp out on the amount of seafood provided. Where this dish falls short is in the consistency. The cheese is sometimes over cooked so it hardens almost like a layer of soft rock. In the to go container, the pieces were so weirdly cut it was difficult to differentiate which were the breast pieces. Unless the duck they have us simply wasn't very meaty. Taste was fine, sauces were really good. Singaporean vermicelli with seafood and BBQ pork was pretty good, slight spice kick. Slightly on the dry side. Shrimp was good, no weird fishiness. Inside there's plenty of seating and we've dined in for breakfast and dinner. In both cases there wasn't a wait to get seated. This review will be for the breakfast items. Pork & Preserved Egg Congee with Fried Noodle - The had generous ingredients of pork and the black preserved egg. This whole bowl easily feeds two people. Congee was seasoned well and not too salty. Get this if you like pork and the century egg in your rice porridge. Seafood Congee - like the other congee, they were generous with the ingredients with octopus, fish, shrimp and overall portion size was strong. Get this unless you don't like seafood. Fried Noodle (comes with congee) - a bit bland, noodles were dry but overall you can skip this. Chinese Donut (aka YouTiao) - crispy, fresh and delicious. Pairs perfect with the Congee. Get this over the fried noodle. Fried Chicken Wings & Squid w/spicy salt - this really isn't a breakfast item, but I really wanted to get it. You could also get just a plate of wings or just a plate of calamari. This offers the best of both worlds. The squid was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It was salted just right and delicious. The chicken wings were fried and crispy on the outside but not overly greasy. They were seasoned just like the squid. Both weren't too spicy and you could easily just pop in a few of the jalapenos and peppers that were on the plate used in the frying process. Get this. H.K. This Cantonese style cafe reminds me sooo much of home! I am very happy they opened up a Delicious Food Corner in Irvine only 15 mins away from my place. I have been to the 626 locations, and I can definitely notice the difference in those locations, but I honestly can't complain too much since this location is much closer. Clay pot rice: my friend and I shared fam style the clay pot rice as our main entree. The rice was extra crispy at the bottom of the clay pot and there was plentiful of preserved meats. I just wished there were more Chinese veggies in the dish. Curry fish ball: I wasn't expecting such a saucy dish to come out, but the curry sauce was very delicious paired with the fries fish balls. Pineapple buns with butter: This was actually just ok as we found the bread a little too toasty, we would've preferred that the bread had more of a doughy chew to it like how Kee Wah does it. Iced lemon tea: My childhood favorite, and you can also ask the waiter for free refills which is great. What's not to like? Came by on a weekday for breakfast because we were craving something hearty, filling, and homey. The food does not disappoint. It is exactly what you expect and that is what we wanted. Every item we ordered definitely takes me back and although the prices definitely has become somewhat steep (thank you, inflation), it is still a worthwhile visit. The bolobao was an excellent finish to a wonderful meal. Since we went during a time when it wasn't too busy, service was generally fast. The interior was clean and definitely gives you a HK vibe. In short, whatever you order for breakfast, finish with the bolobao and if you want to go old school, be sure to get the lemon tea. This place used to called Delicious Corner, foods were ok. After remodels and changed name to Tasty Sport Cafe, foods taste way better and service is also good. We ordered the Pan Fried Preserved Meat with Lotus Root, Shrimp Wonton Soup, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Short Ribs with Black Bean Sauce, Two Delicacy Combination Platter (BBQ Pork + HK Style Roasted Pork), Peking Duck, House Special Filet Mignon, Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetables, and Chicken w/Ginseng Soup. To have me pick 1 favorite dish would be impossible, but if I had to - it would be the Pan Fried Preserved Meat with Lotus Root. It was so good! My only complaint about the dishes we ordered was the Braised Pork - it was kind of on the dry side - and this dish normally has some fatty meat in it to keep it moist. But, everything was really good - and we finished every single dish - no food went to waste. The service was good overall, but the water service was pretttyy slow. When we asked for water for the whole table, they brought 4 waters and disappeared. We had to ask again for the remainder of the table. They also never came around to ask if we wanted refills. As far as their utensils, my cousin got a tea cup with a hair on it, and when she got her plate, it also had a hair on it. That was pretty gross - so we asked them to switch it out, but taking off 1 star for that. Anyways! Now that I know DFC has a chain in Irvine, I'll definitely be visiting more often especially now that I know the food is so good! Overall I would consider this restaurant as very authentic Hong Kong style restaurant with a very HIGH price. Including tips, I would probably say $50/person. For the dinner hours, it's a bit understaffed and many customers are waiting in line while those seated are underserved. My waiter forgot the bring us two bowls and the customers next to our table had to get the chopsticks themselves. I say it's authentic because you can order soda with salted lemon here. It's rarely found in US but quite common in HK. The salted fish pork rice in the clay pot is another must have in HK: but in this restaurant, the pork wasn't very tender and juicy and it's a bit dry. You can't taste the texture of pork cake because the pork was grounded completely. Salted fish is good and very salted but in a very small amount. It's too pricey. For the combo, I personally recommend roast duck, marinated chicken and crispy skin pork. I would say they slice the crispy skin pork too thin and hence I can't taste it with the texture. It should come with a cubic shape. House special fried rice noodles are a good option: reasonable portions and shrimps and squids and sausages. Wok hey wasn't very strong and the seasoning is not very strong to me as well. Curry beef was okay with slightly spicy. Beef was tender and thin sliced. It's was that kind of beef you would expect from a HK cafe and it was definitely marinated before. Cod filet pot was greasy and fishy and with too much oyster sauce. Ready for some Hong Kong cafe style food without having to drive up to the 626 area to get it? Luckily, the Irvine location recently just opened up again so I knew it was my chance to try it. I went in on a Wednesday evening around 6:30pm and the place was super busy. Despite a busy crowd, I feel like the servers did a wonderful job in making sure orders were being taken care of and dishes were being delivered to the customers in a timely manner. While I'm not familiar with the prices of the DFC in the 626 area are cheaper than the Irvine location, I still think you're getting a decent sized meal for what you are paying for. Overall, some improvements can be made (see below) but I would definitely come back to try out their other popular dishes. || L O C A T I O N / P A R K I N G || -Cross Streets are Yale Ave. and Irvine Blvd. -Located in the same plaza as Zion Market, Dada Shabu, Hako and more! -Large parking lot with plenty of spaces. Majority of the nearby spots were all full but you can definitely find a spot if you don't mind taking a couple extra more steps to your destination. || F O O D || Fried Salt & Pepper Pork Chop - For some reason I couldn't locate it on the menu but I showed our server the photos and they mentioned that we could still order it. I'm very particular and picky with this dish because this dish is a family favorite, so you know that I've tried almost every restaurant that has this dish. I really enjoyed the seasonings, but I felt like it wasn't well incorporated with the fried pork chops. Another thing to mention is that the meat used was very thin, which makes it subject to being over fried at a faster rate. Perhaps it is just my preference to have thicker meat cuts for this kind of pork chop dish. 3 item BBQ: I selected the roast duck, roast pork and the bbq pork. My favorite chinese bbq to order is usually the roast duck or the roast pork. The bbq pork is usually third or fourth in line, but at DFC, their best bbq dish that I ordered was actually their bbq pork! It was super tender and juicy (not dry like some other places). The duck was good, esp the crispy skin, but maybe it was portion of duck that was given to us, but it had little meat to it. There were only one or two pieces that actually had a decent amount of meat and weren't just bones. The roast pork wasn't bad, I liked how the meat was tender and that the skin was crispy. Grilled Chicken Steak (from their western menu) - I always order either the grilled chicken steak or the pork chop whenever I'm craving hong kong cafe style food, hence, i was curious about how they would tackle this dish. The portion for this dish is super generous. You get two big pieces of grilled chicken steak that is super flavorful. The best part is that the skin is super crispy. I got mine with noodles instead of rice and chose the black pepper sauce. That sauce definitely had quite a kick to it which I enjoyed, but those who do not like spicy may not think so. read more

I was on the hunt for some Cantonese food in irvine and I found this spot, which comes pretty close to what I'm familiar with in SF. I got the wonton noodle soup, century egg and pork congee, you tiao for my porridge, and an iced lemon tea. Portions were pretty good and the bonus is they give free refills for the iced lemon tea and most importantly the workers there spoke Cantonese so I felt right at home. Wonton noodle soup - 4/5 I finished the bowl in 5 min. Noodles were good and the broth was perfectly salted. The wontons were good but l only got a few. Century Egg and Pork Congee - 4/5 Well seasoned and gave lots of century egg bits. The pork shreds could've been a bit softer. Overall not bad. You tiao - 5/5 Was piping hot when it came out and paired nicely with my congee (iykyk) Iced lemon tea - 5/5 Thought it'd be sour but was surprisingly sweet and good. Since Sam Woo closed, I have been searching for good roast duck and Cantonese food in the Irvine area. Hubby saw this restaurant listed when he did a Yelp search for 'roast duck'. We've since had dinner, lunch, and takeout recently. The Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings were fantastic! Hot out of the fryer, they were so tasty! Hubby wanted congee with fish fillets. We should have ordered the Chinese donuts, but we forgot. He thought the Beef Chow Fun with Black Bean Sauce did not have enough flavor, but I thought it was okay. The next time, we ordered Beef Chow Fun (Dry style). I thought it was just so-so. For takeout, we got the whole roast duck and Sweet and Sour Chicken. They roast the duck rather than have it brought in. I liked it better than Frank's BBQ in Lake Forest. This one was more flavorful, and it reminded me of the Sam Woo ducks. For dine in, we've been seated immediately, and the staff is cordial. The building is a stand-alone in the shopping center at Yale and Irvine Bl, so there is plenty of parking. read more

I was looking for Chinese comfort food and specifically jook and so happy that I found this place! I absolutely love the jook and chow fun they had to offer. It definitely reminded me of home. Definitely very busy here, but the service was quick and efficient. I love that they had so many options and you were able to share all the dishes! Will definitely be back soon! read more
