The food here was good but the service was very slow. On a Wednesday morning, my boyfriend and I waited for 17 minutes for someone to come greet us and provide a menu at the table. Later, when a waiter came to help, she was clearly not listening to my order as she stopped to engage in another conversation behind her and also asked me the same questions multiple times. From there, it took 32 minutes to get the food. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us and we had to flag two different people for our check. I did like my matcha latte and the loaded tater tots were quite filling. This is ON THE SPOT review worthy. I'm now tapped out sipping the rest of my Tata's latte writing this review. It's Sunday morning it was a decent wait for a table so we opted no wait bar seating at the street end of this place. Started with our coffees, horchata latte and tatas latte (both with oatmilk) both were so delicious. I got tatas latte and it's my NEW FAVORITE. Honestly you just have to try it. Yelp helps so much with all the food pics so we went with the Chorizo breakfast burrito (for our savory meal) it's a wet burrito with half red and green salsa. The presentation is on point, it looked too good to eat. I love the green salsa, next time I will go with all salsa verde the burrito was a shareable size for two of us. Now for the sweets, we went with the French toast! Again the presentation was lovely and it was just as great! The toast was crunchy (in the best way) so pouring the syrup all over it was a great balance. All the fruit was amazing and fresh. They are playing all the early 2000 bangers it definitely gives Hawthorne vibes (we're Hawthorne locals) taking us back to our school days here. I would say if they played some Mana or loungey brunch music it would make the environment more cozy and warm. The service was great! We waited 30 min but worth the wait. Cute decor inside. Food portions are big. Enough for 2 meals. I believe they open until 3pm not 4pm. Too bad they don't have dinner. I would love to come back for tomahawk steak and eggs. Golden milk latte was surprisingly good. Loaded tots were crunchy and tasty. Burrito was pleasing to the eyes and super tasty. The food was pretty good , I got the pancake sampler and it was nice getting a different taste of pancakes that are not on a usual menu. The inside is spacious enough for people on a weekday to dine in and eat. The service is why my rating is low, we kept getting ignored. We didn't even get our drinks in and a couple who came in after was served their drinks and had their order in before us. I'm not going to lie I felt a bit racially profiled here. Wow! This is a hidden gem. The food is very pretty and it's delicious, too. You can tell the owners take pride in this establishment. We went on a weekday about an hour before closing and we were seated right away. Parking lot is in the back, across from the hotel. Service was prompt and friendly. We got the turkey sandwich, montecristo, and kids short stack pancakes. All had reasonable prices and good portions. Turkey sandwich had cheese, tomato, and spread on sourdough bun. It came with well-seasoned crispy fries. Montecristo had ham, turkey, and cheese with a bread that was battered and had powdered sugar. On the side it came with a type of lavender dip. Short stack pancakes were cute; it came with three teddy bear shaped pancakes, some fruit, and some whipped cream with sprinkles. Something that immediately stands out is that when you get seated, they give you water with dried lemon and for kids, water with a couple Lotus biscuits. While the staff is always super nice and friendly the food sometimes comes out colder than it should and it happened more than one occasion. We ordered chilaquiles and both orders were barely warm. While the portions are crazy giant for me and my wife I sometimes can't figure why the food is barely warm. That's not the end of world right, but I think it could be corrected. The good thing is that the food always tastes good tho. It's a great place for groups. If you're trying to come eat here on Sunday's prepare to wait because it will get insane packed here. TaTas Cafe - Hawthorne, CA (09/20/2025) I arrived with my girlfriend at 2:35 p.m. and was placed on a waiting list; no problem there. About five minutes later, the young, short Latina hostess approached and offered us seats at a long table facing the wall. Honestly, the setup felt like something straight out of the Jim Crow era, and we politely declined, saying we would wait for a regular table. Roughly 10 minutes later, a Latino family walked in and was seated immediately, even though we were still waiting. The hostess glanced at us with an "OMG" guilty look, clearly knowing something was off. My girlfriend and I are African American, and the way this played out didn't sit right at all. I asked if they took reservations, hoping to make sense of the situation. The hostess said no, then instantly turned attitudinal; complete with the exaggerated neck-snapping stereotype that society unfairly associates with Black women. It was unnecessary and unprofessional. At that point, I told my girl we didn't need to spend our money at a place that can't treat all ethnicities equally. We left and chose to support another restaurant that respects its patrons. Bottom line: Food might be good (we'll never know), but customer service and fairness matter more. If management allows guests to be treated unequally, it sends a message about the values of the establishment. Until this is addressed, I cannot recommend TaTas Cafe. read more

I'm a big fan of the food here -- it's consistently great, and I've always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back in person anymore, especially not with a group. As a party of 5, the wait time was just unreasonable. I understand places can be short-staffed and seating larger groups takes more time, but the way the seating system is managed needs serious improvement. We waited over an hour and a half, and during that time, we watched several parties of 2, 3, and 4 who arrived after us get seated before us. I get that smaller parties are easier to accommodate, but it's really frustrating when people who showed up well after you are able to eat and leave before you're even acknowledged. It feels unfair and poorly managed. After waiting nearly 2 hours, we finally got a text saying our table was ready -- but by then, we had already left to eat somewhere else. It was a waste of time and really disappointing, especially since we genuinely love the food. I hope they find a better way to manage the waitlist and seating system, because the food deserves better service to match. read more
