We popped in for dinner and were immediately greeted and seated. Once we were seated, that's about where the great service ended. I'm not sure if they were short staffed but we had a very difficult time getting a waitress to come back and take our orders. It was about 30 minutes before we placed an order for food and drinks. I ordered the macaroni with meat sauce. The food came out pretty quickly but my meal was undercooked. The macaroni was still hard. The sauce was good but due to the macaroni not being cooked, I couldn't enjoy it thoroughly. We also ordered a drink that was made absolutely incorrectly and couldn't address it and have it fixed because no one came back to the table. Once we finished eating, we had to wait another 45 minutes for another person, who was not our waitress, bring us the check. The waitress that brought the check slapped the check down and walked away, without saying a word, as if she was inconvenienced. I just had some of the worst food that I have ever eaten mixed with the worst customer service by the owner. Everything was too salty. Food is over priced. Never received the drinks I ordered. I order the calamari with marinara sauce and peppers for an appetizer. The sauce taste like it was out of a can. No flavor. The calamari was way to salty. Then The entrees came. Two entrees were Veal Saltimbocca and the chicken Franchise. The food was way to over salted as well. Could not eat more than a few bites. The staff did ask if we liked the food and we said it was to salty and couldn't eat it. The owner then addressed me in a very rude tone and informed me that they do not use salt in there food in the entrees that was ordered. I never once asked for the manager or owner to come over to speak to me about the food. I was just going to pay and leave. I have never had such a horrible meal that was not even edible. Horrible customer service by the owner. The girls that took the order did they best they could but failed to ever deliver any drink that we ordered except for water and a coke. On top of that. When we were leaving the owner may have thought we left out the door but I didn't leave fast enough because she was then complaining about how she has never had a bad meal from there and complained about me being there and not eating the food. She clearly is either delusional about her food or has never tasted her food. I rather eat fast food that has been sitting out for hours rather than ever go back here and try there food ever again. It is no surprise that they were not busy. Especially with the owner that just sat at the bar and only seemed to get up to address me about her food not being to salty. Save yourself the money and literally go anywhere else but here. Kind of a bizarre place. You have to order your appetizer and mains at the same time, no option to order your appetizer first. They served the Moscow mule in a pint glass and it was pretty gross. Plus a $10 split fee! The calamari was thin with no body to it but the sauce it was served with was good. The chicken parm was like a chicken patty - bad quality and in no way worth $24. It's old and charming and has delicious basic Italian food every visit. Had the veal parm last night and it was pounded perfectly, tender, fresh and yummy. Sauce was light and sweet and wonderful and the pasta was like your grandma made- orecchiette . And the crusty bread-- omg. It's nothing fancy at all, just good homemade food. Also had a great Gavi by the glass. If you are looking for fancy decor, waiters with an attitude and "nouveau cuisine" dishes, you won't find it here. Solid Italian fare! We often stroll by Tate's on our occasional traipses through Wickford and tbh, never thought much about trying them until this past Saturday evening when we were hungry and at loose ends. So we went in (fortunately at a seating lull as we didn't make reservations) and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. The table bread and olive oil were respectively crusty/chewy and aromatic - very nice. We shared some very good appetizers of their grilled artichokes (with a piquant aioli) and crab cakes (with a spicy remoulade). My wife had a caesar salad while I had the veal saltimbocca which was very satisfying. We finished the meal with a knock-out almond cake and a couple of cups of piping hot aromatic coffee. Really had high hopes for this place based on reviews and photos but what a let down this past Sunday. Most of the food was pretty decent but the vegetable served with two of the meals were a pile of sautéed onions!! I ordered the veal saltimbocca and somebody else ordered chicken parm with potato and veg. And we were served sautéed onions. Since when are sautéed onions considered a side? For a place that serves food looking like it does, this is completely unacceptable. Even a cold salad would have been appreciated but not even a mention or choice, just a pile of lukewarm onions. Chicken parm was good, and the other meal of sausage and broccoli rabe was ok. Nothing to complain about but nothing to write home about. Overall hard to look and taste past the onions and pretty disappointing! read more

Our first visit with some Wickford locals who call this their "favorite". Their name of "Italian Kitchen" is spot on - traditional Italian appetizers and pastas - latter with various proteins. Karen the owner greeted us at the door, and got our evening off to a great start. The atmosphere is so unique. Housed in a Worcester Lunch Car built in the late 1940's Karen and her Partner provide an Italian style refurbished atmosphere that flooded me with memories of growing up in Boston and Providence. For dinner my wife had the clam linguine in a white sauce with fresh garlic and tomato and topped off with a fresh parmesan. The pasta was home made!! I had the Veal Parmesan with a side of fresh homemade pasta shell, and the finest red sauce I have ever eaten. For desert I had the homemade fresh almond cake and my wife had the carrot cake. Never can go wrong with those choices. We finished off our evening with two 3 bean Sambuca's. Tate's is not just a restaurant. There is a sense of family to Tate's, the people are just down to earth and great fun. The menu is simplicity with heart and pulls you in. Wow! When you get Wow'd by takeout you know it's fantastic! The chicken Milanese with greens, beets, Gorgonzola and balsamic was delicious and fresh! Veal parm with homemade shells- YUM! I'm surprised by the mixed reviews my experience has always been great. The fluke is prepared kind of like a piccata was slam dunk. A Can't miss meal is the meatball appetizer with a side order of pasta oddly pasta and meatballs is not on the menu so I make my own entrée. I went to Tate's tonight and was so very pleased!! The drinks were all made perfect. They use real espresso in their martinis and the gin and tonics were good as well. The chopped salad was great. And the VEAL PARM was awesome! The veal was cooked perfecto with some homemade shells!! I wish I took another veal parm order home for tomorrow because it was so good. What an amazing little cozy place in Wickford! We came right at opening on a Friday night and got the perfect window seats!!! I got an aperol spritz to drink and calamari for an appetizer! The drink was delicious and the appetizer was the perfect calamari, perfectly crisp with delicious sauce!! For food my husband ordered the veal saltimbocca which he thought was tasty but for the price the amount of veal, veggies and tiny slice of potato just wasn't what we were expecting! I got the eggplant parmigiana which was yummy and definitely more filling than my husbands meal but still a pretty small serving. We had dinner here while passing through to our hotel and we had different experiences food wise. I really enjoyed the texture and flavor of the bread they brought us before the meal, my fiancé thought that it would have been better hot and served as is she didn't like it. I had the Shrimp Fra Diablo and it was great! Decent amount of shrimp, pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was really stand out! My fiancé's Pork Rago on the other hand had very little sauce and the noodles were really tough like they hadn't been cooked long enough. The pork itself was fabulous but the rest left a lot to be desired. I think they just dropped the ball on the Pork Ragu this time but my dish and the flavor of the pork itself makes me think that on a different night it would have been stand out as well. The service was also great. Our waitress checked on us often, the guy that brought us our food checked on us a couple of times, and a woman who I think might have been the owner even checked in on us to make sure someone had taken care of us. Tate's is the type of place that you may stumble into and leave so glad that you did. For starters, while other popular coastal Rhode Island restaurants may get very busy during the high season, we were able to walk in here and be seated right away. It is a cozy, small space that, aesthetically speaking, is pretty austere, but does emanate that mom-n-pop feel. Nonetheless, the food is where Tate's shines. The meatballs were arguably some of the best I've ever had. They were tender and covered in a deliciously sweet marinara with creamy ricotta swirled in. Honestly, I'm going to have to return if not for anything else, then for these meatballs. For entrées, we tried the buccheri bolognese which was cooked perfectly al-dente and covered in a rich bolognese. The texture of the pasta complemented this sauce quite well, but cannot say it was the best bolognese I've had. We also tried a succulent pork chop baked in a tasty candied crust. It seems the menu often changes; I will definitely be looking forward to the seasonal variations. I would definitely recommend eating here for the convenience and authentic food. read more

Me and my Friends wanted to go out to eat for New Years Eve, once we were seated, me and my friends noticed that there was tiny particles floating around in the water. we just decided to brush it off. The server we had was very polite and was great, but the owner of the store named Karen was very rude to her staff and was very loud and obnoxious. Once we received our food I orderd just a basic pasta and meatballs, i took a few bites and realized then that that there was a piece of hair. Me and my friends just stayed silent about it not trying to make a scene. but I'm making a review about this because not just me, but Multiple people have experienced almost the same things I have. not only was the owner rude but the food was not acceptable to my liking either and very overpriced for something I just can't enjoy. I'd title this review "Yelp hits home run in bottom of ninth" We stopped here on our overnight from SC to Martha's Vineyard. We thought we were going to be late after our 6 AM flight was cancelled. I called the owner Karen (famous from other Yelper reviews) at 545 AM at their business number (not knowing it rang in their home off hours). I left a message indicating that we would likely be late. She later spoke to me by phone in Detroit (yes, Detroit) saying we could arrive anytime. So we did arrive only a couple minutes late. Karen, a charismatic, bubbly New 'Yawker' greets us and escorts me immediately back into the kitchen to introduce me to the staff as "the guy who called me at 545 this morning." A real stitch!! The place was small but very comfortable (see photo). Noah, our waiter, appeared to be a charming VERY TALL college kid and greeted us warmly to take our martini order. Starters: Barry, meatballs. Lisa house salad Lisa's salad was very good, she loved the dressing and it was gargantuan (by her standards, she is queen of doggie bags). My meatballs (2 large) were accompanied by a dollop of whipped ricotta and amazing italian sauce. They were lightly spiced and delectable. Main course: Barry, veal saltimbocca. Lisa, roasted cauliflower. Lisa's dish was really interesting accompanied with pine nuts and raisins and drizzled with a quality balsamic. I tasted it as she was getting 'full' and it was delish. My veal was also excellent. Nice portion with a very nice prosciutto and a slightly sweet demi glace. The sweetness and the saltiness of the ham gave it a wonderful balance. A very nice Tuscan Sangiovese for $34 accompanied our meal. Overall, it was a great experience. Noah was also awesome. Outstanding! 10 stars. Had the butternut squash lasagnette. AAMMAZing. Best dish I've had in long time. Homemade pasta layered with mashed butternut squashed and mozzerella. Topped with sliced green apples, drizzled with apple cider glaze, and garnished with cranberries and pistachios. It was outstanding. My husband had the veal parm which he raved about. Large portion of veal which was tender. Smaller portion of spaghetti. Sauce is fresh, mild and light with a little chunk to eat. Perfecto! read more

Tate's is a quaint little Italian place in downtown Wixkford which offers the perfect little get away for a date night. The food is absolutely delicious, the staff is friendly and if you score one of the window seats there's even a view! Overall Tates is great for small groups or more intimate fathers, though larger groups may find it a tiny bit small for their needs, we defiantly recommend it as a go to for Italian in the area. The drink and wine menus also offer some hidden gems that are worth a look and there is a small bar for those who want to sample more drinks than food or just want to quickly drop in to slake their thirst. Full disclosure, a neighbor in Wickford gave us a gift certificate to try them out. Last time ( 2 years ago) , we tucked in for chowder and a beer on the upper level, during Christmas shopping. A complete different experience this time , in the lower, 2 steps down, intimate dinning area. We ordered appetizers and drinks, and were advised they couldn't put order in, until we ordered the Secondary: entree. Some confusion, we quickly established an entree only order, pause, then , order was put in. Not sure of the need for immediate entree order, but will remember next time. We FINALLY went to Tate's for dinner last night & gosh, I wish we had tried it earlier!! It's been on my list of restaurants since we moved 5 years ago. We had a wonderful experience & the food was so delicious! Every single thing we ordered was excellent! We had 3 appetizers, the calamari, artichoke & crab cake. All delicious. Each of us had a different main dish, all excellent. We tried all 3 deserts offered, also all made in house, all 3 excellent as well, especially the carrot cake & the almond pound cake. Food is decent, but not exceptional. Dishes can be replicated for a quarter of the cost. The owners are trying to run a NYC restaurant in the small town of Wickford. They are extremely rude and have no problem rushing you out before your last bite. Just look out their hours below. Closed 2 days of the week and open from 5-Till whenever they want you out the door! If they do survive it will be because they are the only gig in town. Not for any other reason! Take the NY attitude back where you belong! We have plenty of good restaurants a short drive away that exceeds their limited 10 item menu. We've given you plenty of opportunities to make it right. My family typically gets take out and the food is always amazing! I have dined in and the service was nice and accommodating.

Living in the area, we like to support local businesses. Prices are on the high end, quality is good, however, their customer service is horrible. Never have we felt more uncomfortable and rushed in a restaurant. Our server acted as if we were an inconvenience and she couldn't get us out fast enough. We have been to this restaurant a few times, have brought friends, and this was the worse experience. A horrible dining experience that has made us cross this restaurant off our go to list. The service deserved "no" tip, however we gave her more than she deserved because she had no change in the restaurant and had to run next door the the pizza place to grab change. Not even a smile on her face with a more than deserved tip! Hope she spends her tip on something that might put a smile on her face! read more

We shared the burrata, peach, and prosciutto appetizer which was delicious. I chose eggplant parm for my entree and I gobbled it up. The eggplant slices were nice and thin, but plentiful, and the sauce was tasty. We sat outside and enjoyed people watching, as it seems everyone knows each other in Wickford.
