First time here. Small, nice and clean environment. The people working there were very friendly and explained everything to us first timers. They not only give quantity but also quality home style food. They even had warabi! I love warabi! They were a little surprised when I knew what it was and said a lot of people thought it was green beans! LOL! All in all it was a great experience. Food wise...it was great! I got the steamed fish with kalua long rice. It was awesome. Steamed fish was light and tasty! Kalua long rice was a little on the salty side but was still ono! My girlfriend got the baked spaghetti and kalua pig and cabbage. I tasted a little bit of hers but didn't want to eat much cause I want to go back and try it for myself! Lol. This place was an absolute gem and find on our trip. Hidden behind a busy industrial area and tucked in an alleyway this is where you find the heart and soul of Honolulu. It is deceivingly small and has all sorts of workers coming and going giving you a sense of authenticity as it is where the locals eat, not where the advertisements tell you to go. I was lucky enough to try a local favorite the black mushroom and pork stew served with two heaping scoops of white rice and a side of macaroni and potato salad. The only word I can use to summarize this gastronomic adventure is WOW! The flavors where as rich and genuine as the people who helped us, and the furikaki chicken I got to accompany this masterpiece left a smile on me for the rest of the day. This mom and pop shop didn't disappoint at all. What made me sad while leaving is this cultural life force and icons just like it are slowly going extinct thanks to chain restaurants and fast food. I only hope they stay strong and more people find there way to Tatsuo's so that next time we are in Hawaii they can win out hearts again. read more

I live across the street from their lunch wagon in Salt Lake which is great. The thing is I won't be recommending them to anyone. I got the pork and squash which was all pork and only one piece of meat. That's a rip off. Two scoop rice, about 15-20 squash and ONE piece of pork. Last time I got the hamburger steak which looked and tasted like it wasn't cooked good. So far I've been unhappy or disappointed with the food there and not planning on eating there again . Your typical "plate lunch" place. I work near by Sand Island Access Road, so we normally visit here maybe 2-3 times a month. They have different specials every day, so you'll never get bored with their food. They have awesome cookies, you must try! Sometimes they have butter mochis, banana bread, and assorted cookies for dessert. One of my favorites is SPANISH RICE. Trust me, you'll want to try this!!! Good: Place is clean inside, has parking, near my workplace But: Sadly I'm disappointed with my first try of their food. I tried teri chicken and ahi/tofu patty from the entrees out. My husband and I went here for breakfast after picking up our rental car at the airport. We chose this restaurant because it was on Google as a "place the locals eat". We were also trying to avoid the high prices in Waikiki. The parking was a little rough due to its location. However, what it lacked in parking, it definitely made up for in food quality and quantity! The owners were incredibly friendly and even offered suggestions for things to do during our vacation. We got the Samurai breakfast and the two egg omelet and were both stuffed after. We definitely recommend it to start your day!! read more

Kinda hard to find, but the food is really ono. The hamburger steak is homemade goodness, cooked just right. The beef stew is one of the better ones I have had (I like it on the sweeter side). Wed - pastele stew. It's a nice change from the regular plate lunch and it's great over the Mexican rice. If I don't know what to get, I'll just get mochiko chicken or a burger. Went to their tent at the Kaneohe open market today. Ordered 1 fried Akule plate and a bowl of Sari-Sari, 20 bucks just for that. Way over priced and the Sari-Sari didn't even have 1 piece of Shrimp or lechon. Tasted pretty bad as well. Thank you to tatsuo's for making it a great experience for me and my family today...me and my father in-law had the rosemary baked chicken with potato's, it was hands down ono!!! My wife had the chop steak and that was also awesome, the meat was tender and delicious. My daughter had baked spaghetti and took some chicken long rice home for dinner. We also had desert, tatsuo's chocolate chip and almond cookies that just melt in your mouth. That is a must try when you go their! it was so go that we are going back tomorrow for the pastele stew and furikake chicken and to buy more cookies for our friends and family....we also found out they do catering so we will go back to them for our catering needs and they also have a different menu everyday so it doesn't get boring....mahalo's to tatsuo's, you guys are the best!!!!! This review is for the Tatsuo's food truck. I really really wanted to like Tatsuo's because I've seen the food truck around a few places. So I finally got to try the food. The truck was at the Salt Lake Elementary School for their fair. I ordered the barbecue chicken plate with Mac salad and rice. The guy told me they were out of Mac salad so I said ok to tossed salad. I also ordered fried saimin. The barbecue chicken was alright but I was disappointed that there was no dressing on the salad. I love tossed salad but with dressing. The iceberg lettuce was brown and wilted. The fried saimin was for my son who has never met a noodle he didn't love but unfortunately, he took one bite and ended up eating the spam and kamaboko and not the noodles. I couldn't understand why so I took a bite and almost choked because it was soooo dry. Maybe it just wasn't good because it was the food truck? I'll never know :( read more

Walked in the restaurant 1:45 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. The BIG sign on the door said "OPEN". Went inside only to be greeted by a mean lady who said "we're closing you know" I said your sign says open and its 1:45 p.m. She reluctantly said "well we're cleaning the grills, so nothing fried or grilled, but still get plate lunches that are left over from the day if you like. I asked what are the choices. She went over the choices. Since I am there and I NEEDED to get lunch, i ordered. I got charged over $15.00 for two mini plate lunches that were dried and sure enough leftover from the day. One of the order was beef stew plate which had only one meat cube in the whole plate that was nickel sized. While waiting for the food, another man came into the restaurant the same lecture like talk started from the lady behind the counter. I felt sorry for the man more than i felt sorry for me going there. Tatsuo's, I am truly sorry for bothering your business during business hours and for ordering lunch while you claim you are still OPEN!! I WILL NEVER BOTHER YOU AGAIN AND NEVER WILL I EAT OR ORDER YOUR OVER PRICED DRIED OUT LEFT OVER PLATE LUNCHES!!! SO NO WORRY, In Summary: Rude people, below average food, above average prices, dirty, dump, They don't appreciate your business and there are many other decent places that really appreciate your business for much better quality food. My wife and I found this place on yelp while we were waiting for a flight at the Honolulu Airport. We definitely recommend the short trip to this hole-in-the-wall breakfast shop. My wife got the lunch meat omelette and a mochi, and I got the loco moco with homemade hamburger patties. For a great price, we each got a full plate of delicious food.
