Smoked salmon, avocado and egg sandwich
    John Y.

We had a gift card and the wife bought a Smoked salmon, avocado and egg sandwich from Tatte in Belmont. This place is right in the heart of Waverly Square, and is very busy on a weekend. The place is clean, open and bright. They have huge displays of ready made pastries to go with lattes and coffees etc. They also serve sandwiches. The Smoked salmon, avocado and egg sandwich that my wife ordered was very good. You can tell nothing is pre-made or mass produced. The eggs are real scrambled eggs, not like the precooked rounded eggs in a McDonald's breakfast sandwich. There is great care in not just the ingredients, but the presentation of the sandwich as well. However, due to the presentation, we did have to re-orient the contents to form a sandwich we could actually pick up and eat like a sandwich. There is plenty of street parking and potentially a lot in the back of the place (overheard it, not sure if it's true).

Tatte reminds me of a more current Dean and Delucca. With a clean cozy vibe and pastry filled displays. The staff is friendly and the food is amazing. I opted for a seasonal farro salad for lunch and my niece adores the chocolate croissant. Another family favorite is the cauliflower pita. Definitely a staple when I visit the Boston area.

Loved that every bathroom had changing station for babies. Great place to grab lunch and a coffee with my little one. Had their leer quiché and it was delicious.their house latte was just right. They have outdoor seating though it is limited and often sought after so act fast.

Interior of the new Tatte location in Belmont! / Sept. 2023

I've been to quite a few Tatte locations around the Boston area and also in DC, so it was exciting to learn about this new location in Belmont. It's near Waverley and the commuter rail stop, an area that has sorely needed a quality cafe. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon when the place wasn't too busy. To me it's a decent sized Tatte (larger than the Brookline or Beacon Hill locations but smaller than the huge Newton Centre one), with plenty of room in front of the counter and tables at either end. It looks like there will eventually be chairs along the windows too, like at the Harvard Square location. The Tall Man and I loaded up on pastries and drinks for a midday pick me up with the parents. Everything looked beautiful and comparable to other Tatte locations. The pain au chocolat and kouign amann were less flaky than I've had elsewhere, and the apricot danish was a bit less generous with less fruit, but they still satisfied. The gluten free walnut brownie was spot on (very fudgy and delectable). (Note that while Tatte has gluten friendly items, they are not a GF facility so there's a lot of cross contamination. Still, you can ask for them to put GF items separately.) My hot chocolate with almond milk hit the spot -- chocolatey but not too sweet. The Tall Man enjoyed his flat white (8 oz). I'd like to come back for some lunch sometime. This will likely become one of my go to spots in the neighborhood, with it being more convenient and less crowded than other Tatte's. I hope it gets good business without getting overrun like some of their other locations! (This is me selfishly feeling hopeful; clearly I'm not the business owner.)

Brand new location in Belmont, MA just opened this week! There are variety of food options, from grab and go pastries, to sit-down style breakfast & lunches. They offer a variety of coffees and other drinks as well. I definitely recommend looking through the menu before you come as there's a lot to choose from. There are plenty of tables all around however it was quite busy so it took a few minutes to find an open one. They give you a number and bring your items to you if you decide to eat here so that's pretty cool! It's like a causal, sit-down establishment if you will. I like this aesthetic of this place. They have a cool Belmont sign but it's behind a pole so you can't get a good photo...RIP. My only complaint, haha. There is a parking lot behind the building and free 1-hour street parking surrounding, so it wasn't too difficult finding a spot even on a busy Saturday afternoon. Definitely check this place out!

Short Rib, Broccolini, Lentil & Couscous Bowl

Flavor: 5/5 Delicious, tender braised beef. Well oiled and seasoned couscous & broccolini. The pomegranate seeds were a burst of fragrant flavor that complemented the saltiness of the couscous. Portion size: 5/5 Filled me up perfectly, even after giving some to my partner. Service: 5/5 Long line, quick service! Went around lunch time and the line wrapped around the entrance, but had my order taken fairly quickly. Bang for your buck: 4/5 Spent around $20 for my bowl, which is a bit pricey, but I am willing to pay slightly more for a special meal like this one.

It's a bit expensive but everything is so top-tier it's kind of worth it. They're baked goods are on parallel. I got the cheese bureka and nitro cold brew both outstanding

She also made my coffee in a unique way which really surprised me. They have a giant jug of iced coffee that they keep in the bottom cabinet, instead of having drip or brew. The coffee itself was pretty decent, though. My ham and cheese crepe was okay but there was not enough ham or cheese, it was mostly just egg. My friend's portion was also small but the food was good. I think I would give it another shot.

I had fruit cup of melon, pineapple, cantaloupe and strawberries in lieu of toast and hash browns. The omelet was very good with lots of veggies inside. The fruit cup was on the small size but it beats additional carbs. I had to wait for my bill. I think they forgot about me. I finally had to get up and ask for bill. I would have to try again before I would pass judgement.

The perfectly preserved railcar diner (even down to the original refrigerator and clock on the wall) is only one of a few dozen still operating as a diner out of the hundreds that built by the Worcester Lunch Car Co. in the 1940s and 1950s. Maria Kitidis Mackay and her father George bought the diner in January 2020 and one or both of them are usually working the griddle daily.. as they were when I recently visited. I recently stopped in for breakfast two days in a row while visiting friends in Concord and the food was excellent both times. On my first visit, I had the two-egg platter ($8) with a unique Greek loukaniko sausage (+$7). The next day, I had the same platter with traditional pork sausage links (+$3). Both platters came with home fries and toast, and everything was incredibly fresh, hot, and really tasty. My dining companion also thoroughly enjoyed her meals and the classic diner ambiance. She tried the Florentine benedict ($14), which came topped with perfectly sautéed spinach and tomato, and on the next visit went with the spinach and feta omelet ($13). Our servers stopped by a few times to ensure everything was good. The only minor disappointment we experienced was that our servers didn't offer to refill our coffee, but otherwise, it was a fantastic visit. Maybe I should have asked? It is a terrific experience all around. Highly recommend checking this place out if you want great food, unique history, and a classic diner atmosphere! Even taking away a 1/2 star for our coffee snafu, it's still a solid 4.5 stars for the overall experience -- rounded up to 5 stars. PRO TIP: Bring cash. Wilson's does not accept credit cards.
