We were happy to find a Lao restaurant with good reviews nearby and wanted to give it a try. Once we ordered and received our water cups. The water cup was dirty. Of course I found out AFTER I had already added water to it. This was already the first red flag. We let it pass and chose not to drink it. It then took 25 min for us to recieve our SIMPLE dish. We ordered two sticky rice, 1 papaya salad, and Jaew on the side for $24 ( the sticky rice was $3 each and Jaew was $1 each. You can do the math). We thought the papaya salad was going to be a good amount for two for the the way it was priced. We were wrong. You can definitely find better Lao restaurants elsewhere. Hands down one of the best restaurants I've ever had in Seattle! Thom Khem (pork over rice) was the star of the show - just the perfect blend of savory explosion from the caramelized pork and the crisp satisfaction from the Brussel hash brown. The Lao burger takes just the regular burger to the next level by mixing together the perfect mix of pork belly cheese and others. The Phad Lao (rice noodles) was amazing with its refreshing taste - was it's just the right texture, the ingredients complement this dish so well and makes the noodle really shine with its encapsulating flavor. Love this place and you can't go wrong! Really good outdoor seating with heat lamps, covered area, and plenty of seating. I love that all their Takeaway containers are compostable. The menu is short but I have yet to find anything I don't like on it. Not a ton of vegetarian options but the ones they have, like the curry, or really good and I would highly recommend. read more

This place has amazing food: great flavors, thoughtfully prepared, and excellent customer service. The serving sizes were just right. I called ahead and they were even able to accommodate my soy allergy. I am so happy that Taurus Ox has opened in my neighborhood, and I'll definitely be back. My only request for them would be to fix the second bar stool from the right. I'm not sure if it was the chair itself or the floor underneath, but I felt like I was sitting slightly slanted uphill to the left. I can't stop going to this place. The staff is friendly and their food is incredible. I'm pretty sure I've eaten every dish at least once and there wasn't a single one that wasn't delicious. Their khao Soi is delicious too! It's different from what I was used to, as I worked at an Isan-style Thai restaurant. I learned that khao Soi is actually a dish represented in a multitude of ways across Southeast Asia and their's, of course, is a Laotian representation. If you're looking for a hearty curry dish with ground meat and warm spices, then look no further! Also, this is the best burger in town. There's not another burger spot that can touch the one they put out- especially when you add their chili oil to it (not for the faint of heart). read more

We wanted to try this restaurant out. My boyfriend and I ordered the lao sausage and khao soi. The sausage was good but the sticky rice was old and hard. Who wants to eat hard sticky rice? you can see it's dried out that it looks like it's been sitting out. I wouldn't serve that to my customers if I wanted them to come back. The Khao Soi noodle soup was not good in my opinion. It just taste like water with the fermented soybean (stinkybean). We asked for sriracha & hoisin sauce they only had fish sauce. Had sky high hopes but cannot say I enjoyed our meal. Khao soi had a strong flavor of pork and sour but not much else going on despite looking visually arresting - it looks like it should taste really really good. I removed the ham from the Khao Jee because the thickness of the fat detracted from the sandwich. The two entrees had a lot of fat (I love fat), but so much so we couldn't eat half the meat. The Soop Pak tasted fresh and healthy but was more bitter and sour than yummy. I think you either love this place or the flavors aren't for you. read more

I used to live in a Laotian community in Issaquah. Through this experience, I learned to love the distinctive flavors of Laotian cooking. I came here, with my Saudi friend after touring the CHOP area. He wanted to see this area and got hungry after the sightseeing. We both chose the, "Lao Burger. Two smash-patties and pork jowl bacon with jaew tomato and jaew b ong mayonnaise, cilantro, provolone cheese, taro stem and pickled onion." We got the papaya salad and lemongrass limeade. The pork added to the burger was really good. The overall combination of flavors, made this a delicious and unique burger. The salad was a explosion of flavors. Refreshing lemongrass limeade. For me, these were tastebud tantalizing flavors, not familiar to American palates. So, it was a lot of fun to try and expand my usual choices of food to include my memories of my Laotian friends. read more

The Thom khem was good flavors, but some of the pork was tough as opposed to the moist, fall apart near I'd want. Their Lao burger is THE BOMB!!! Oh sooo good - MUST HAVE!! Their beef jerky is so good too, perfect consistency and so flavorful, not hard or chewy - LUV!! Unfortunately, their Lao sausage was very bland compared to what I'm used too and their papaya salad was too fishy and tasteless, would never order these two again.....considering this is a Lao restaurant and the reviews it's given, you would think the lao sausage and papaya salad would be good...but oh sooo totally disappointing im Lao so I have tasted a many great sausages n papaya in my days and am still looking for a restaurant in WA that could even compare to a store deli in CA that serves this type of food for $3-$5!!! Went there and was seated outside pretty fast on a weeknight. It's a small restaurant so be aware when trying to dine in! Food was okay, I've definitely had better Laotian food in the South end. And, okay, maybe I'm a bit of an oinker but I thought the portions were small for the prices we paid. I'm not sure if it was the spices used in the food or just the outdoors but I had this weird slightly b.o. reminiscent aftertaste. I ordered takeout during COVID-19. I got the Thom Khem (pork belly. $14), Burger ($14), and side of sausage ($8). To preface this review, I'd like to say that I'm no expert in Laotian food and this might have been the first time I've had it. The Thom Khem was reaaally good. Tender juicy pork with a savory sauce and chilis for spice. They also added a braised egg and it was delicious. The charred cabbage paired perfectly with the meat and rice. The Burger was good but I didn't feel like it was anything special. Maybe it would have tasted better if I ate it fresh (I ate it after I got home). Sausage was unique and has rice cake and chilies inside it. It was good but I wasn't the biggest fan of it (I've never really enjoyed Asian flavored sausages). I think the portion size was not worth the price, so maybe if the Burger and Thom Khem was $3-4 cheaper I would have given this 5 stars. I think I just expected more for the price I was paying. Overall, the food was solid and worth a try if you want Laotian food in the Seattle area. read more

So glad I followed my instinct to say "Hell, Yes!" to Taurus Ox. The place is this gem of a restaurant in a tiny corner spot. The space is smartly organized and tastefully detailed. The Thom Khem stole the show for me. The meat melts in your mouth, the egg is perfectly cooked, the sauce you may find yourself using every possible food item to absorb its rich deliciousness and the brussels have just the right toasty crunch to balance this decadent meal. Came here based off a recommendation from a friend (even though they haven't tried it yet)! The place is quite small and gets filled up quick. So call in for a res or eat dinner before the rush. Staff was so friendly, I would rate them 5 stars just based off our experience. I love that the menu didn't have 1000 items on it. Every dish sounded so good, it was hard to pick. We asked the staff what they recommended and went with their suggestions. Each of the plates were quite large (we did 3 mains for 2 people). Great serving sizes for the prices. Food was excellent and taste was great! One dish was a bit too spicy for my personal taste, but it was still great to eat. I also got their tea w/ milk and that was A+. We heard excellent reviews for Taurus Ox and was not disappointed. We ordered three items and a drink. Lao burger - the #1 item I wanted to try and it was delicious. Nice and juicy with this unique flavor. It would be nice if we could pay a little extra to opt for a small side. Thom Khem - The pork belly was tender. The sauce with rice was incredible. The Brussels sprouts was crispy. Given it's pork belly, the sauce is a little greasy but it is to be expected. Khao Soi - least favorite of the three items. This was mediocre and its very oily. Lemongrass limeade- we love tart so another thumbs up. Excellent service and ambiance. I requested a knife so we could share the burger. Staff offered to cut it for us and asked if we needed extra plates to share. It's great that the server was attentive to our needs without extra prodding. read more

I am not a fan of burgers or noodles so bravo to Taurus Ox for making both of these dishes so delicious that I can't turn them away! The burger is juicy and saucy and I love the taro stem and pickled onions. The Phad Lao are actually refreshing, I love the crunchy texture that all the toppings provide and the noodles themselves do not taste greasy or heavy. They are delicious! Everything I have eaten here has been amazing but I am going to shout out the burger and the thom khem specifically because these are things I would 100% come back for, and have not had similar versions of anywhere else. The burger (dinner only) has everything I need in a burger. The beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked, there is melty cheese, pickled onion crunch and sweetness, and the mayo sauce is creamy and delicious. They also happily cut into a peace sign for my odd group of three. :) The Thom Khem is also insane. Pork belly is always a star. We got it with jasmine rice that soaked up all of the sauce as we ate. The crispy brussle sprouts and the fresno chilis in this were a perfect complement. Can't forget the eggs! Lastly the staff is so friendly and accommodating which is always a plus. We are hard core foodies always seeking new adventures and Taurus Ox didn't disappoint at all. The burger (even as take take out quality) was outstanding. I loved the bun as it was chewy and soft while also holding together. I could go on and on about the noodles and pork belly but as a die hard veggie lover was blown over how nice the steamed veggies were. (Sort-of) hidden gem. Loved coming here pre-covid, got takeout recently and it was as good as I remember.

I would come back just for the thom khem! It's so flavourful and it melts in your mouth just as it should.
