We are so glad we found this place on trip advisor and yelp. By far the best dining experience we had in New Hamshire. Inspired by eclectic tapas and gourmet pizzas, Tavern 27 also has a great wine list and a full bar. We started with a complimentary amuse-bouche of pumkin bean spread on toasted pita triangles that I would order off the menu in a heartbeat. We loved their chickpea fries (similar to Falafel), fried haddock (with an outstanding gluten free crust) and sweet dreams pizza (with figs and drizzled honey). I had a lovely apple cider martini on a sugar and cinnamon rimmed glass and my husband had an ultra fresh pear mojito. We greatly enjoyed the attention to detail throughout this adorable venue and appreciated the lovely plate presentations. The couple that owns this place knows what they are doing and is incredibly hands on and friendly, rounding out the overall experience quite nicely. Definitely check out the gift shop next door, and if you are there during the day make it a point to take in the gorgeous golf course views. read more

My wife and I had an good experience at this restaurant located in a building that we were told "has provided some form of hospitality to guests for over 150 years". The current owners are a husband & wife team (he's FOH and she runs the kitchen) who relocated from Boulder, CO and have resurrected this space and an adjoining golf course (Ray's day job is as the resident golf pro). The menu is designed with tapas plates larger than one might find in Spain and with culinary inspiration drawn from various cultures. I had the clam chowder which was very good although a little thicker than I like. A selection of interesting olives was great and very generous in size. Due to our server's recommendation and Yelp reviews we ordered the chick pea 'fries' which were really good but were enough for a party of six to share (fortunately, "party of six" is my middle name). I think this is the restaurant at which I had calamari with remoulade (too many meals out lately to be sure, mea culpa if this isn't the place) where the mayo based sauce was placed over the squid and kind of melting; maybe I'm being picky but I would prefer the sauce on the side and to be able to add as much or, as little, as I want to. My wife enjoyed her 'stacked' spinach salad and my lobster deviled eggs were excellent. Service was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely return. One caveat: they do have a pool table but I didn't get the sense that this is a place to go "looking for a game". read more

Tavern27 is the best restaurant in the Lakes Region. You can't go wrong and you are missing an amazing experience/delicious food if you don't take an opportunity to go. Make reservations - it is popular because it is so terrific. Every menu item is superb and creative, with generous portions and only $8- $10 each. Some favorites of ours are the Powerhouse Salad, Superfood Salad, the Haddock Bites, the gourmet Pizzas (2 for 1 on Sundays - that is amazing!), Steak Roulade, Fried Calamari, Seared Scallops, and the Sirloin Pinchos. The restaurant itself is beautiful - like a historic home - lots of wood, charm and ambiance. We were there last night and felt compelled to write a review. Selfishly, I want this place to remain a secret. (It's that terrific.) Ray, the owner and executive chef, readily credits others, including his wife, for a menu comprising incredibly delicious over-sized tapas, among other delights. It is among the most interesting, finest dining you will find in the Lakes Region. The period home is as quirky as it is charming, and creates an atmosphere celebrating live music, New England charm, and a sophisticated menu. They even have a really fun outdoor patio bar where we had a few after dinner drinks. The place deserves broad recognition for its outstanding food, fun atmosphere, and spot-on service. I'll start with the positives here. LOVED THE FOOD! The garlic poppers are delicious and a must try. They come in a pretty big portion of 8 pieces. The seared scallops are tasty as well and cooked very well. Just two pieces which is an individual size. And then the shrimp flat bread was outstanding. The best item of the night! Very flavorful. Very large serving size so there were plenty of leftovers. Only negative thing I have to say is that the service was slow. There were like 2 waiters for the whole place on a Friday night. Tavern 27 in Laconia,  NH has a 4.5-4.7 rating on Facebook,  Google,  Yelp and TripAdvisor,  so despite first visiting this restaurant about 3 years ago and being underwhelmed,  my wife and I decided based on reviews maybe  it deserved another visit.   We took the only reservation they had left at 5:15 on Saturday,  7/16 and arrived on time.   Things started off bad when all the tables had "reserved"  signs on them and they wanted to seat us at a 2-top right in the front entrance across from the hostess station and right next to two swinging doors in and out of the kitchen   After our insistence and some obvious annoyance on their part, they moved us into one of the empty high-tops in the dining room.   We are "Foodies"  and having lived in CT and NY we set the bar pretty high, so  here are our honest opinions. Baked Haddock - 4 small (1.5 oz) pieces with light batter,  but under seasoned and bland - you needed the uninspired tartar sauce to make this dish OK Calamari - we have this dish in every new restaurant we visit as a benchmark of their food quality -  bland,  mushy and under seasoned (my husband had to ask for salt) - also by far the smallest portion for equal price we have ever been served - not a platter or a bowl,  but a ramekin Duck Confit - the tastiest plate with 2 steamed and 2 fried spring rolls,  but again under seasoned (we ordered the chili sauce and rémoulade which helped) and each roll was half the size of conventional rolls served anywhere else. Colossal Grilled Shrimp - We ordered these with soy ginger sauce and they were as tasty as any I had made often on my own grill.   However,  the owner needs to be made aware of the International Shrimp Sizing Chart before they are sued for false advertising.   "Colossal" means 14 shrimp per pound,  yet these were "extra large" at best,  which are 28 per pound.     In summary they have good wait staff and nice eclectic ambiance,   but unfortunately the food is not up to par and overly expensive for what you get.   There are better restaurants in the Lakes Region! read more

Bit of an up-and-down experience. Food was mostly good, service was fine, no complaints about the atmosphere, great value. Food: -Chickpea fries: not all they were cracked up to be! I've had chickpea fries elsewhere too, the ones at Tavern just didn't have much chickpea taste at all! -Duck confit rolls: ordered all 4 to be steamed and glad we did! Very flavorful and if they had been fried I think it would've taken away from the dish -Stuffed dates (original): probably our favorite dish of the night! No such thing as too much chevre...or bacon...or chicken... -Steak roulade (wild mushroom): good, but not great. Just about what you'd expect from reading the description. Bit of a downside is that because the steak is sliced so thinly, it has to be cooked well done -Ciao bello bocadillo: again good but nothing to write home about -Cuban bocadillo: better than the ciao bello; surprisingly tasty in fact -Tuscany ultimo pizza: Excellent combination of toppings -Honey mustard chicken bacon: ordered at our server's recommendation...kind of boring compared to the others so I wish we had picked a different one here Service: -Started out warm, friendly and attentive...slowly became less and less attentive. Meal took 3 hours! THREE! We did not expect to be there until 10 and had to cancel some evening plans unfortunately -We asked about the Sunday 2 for 1 pizza deal, to which our server quietly responded that it IS indeed offered, but they "try not to advertise it..." despite being well aware that this was our first visit...he was very strange about it to be honest Atmosphere: -Fairly quiet, and we'll call the decor...interesting. If you have a fear of Bernese mountain dogs I would steer clear Value: -As much as I at times was wishing we had chosen a different restaurant, the bill ended up being $80 after tax, before tip...between 4 people it was next to nothing. Granted we didn't order drinks but still, definitely less than we were expecting to pay We come from Philly and Boston so maybe the expectations were a little high, but nonetheless, some of the dishes could use improvement. And if you don't want to offer 2 pizzas for the price of 1 every Sunday...don't!! read more

Wow! This place was absolutely perfect in every possible way. Our family of five ate here after the Timberman (ironman race). We ordered ten different plates and every single one was superb. The stacked spinach salad and chick pea fries were high end twists on old favorites. The pork, chicken, crabcakes, cucumber chicken rolls, and everything else we ate was exceptional. Everything was fresh, made to order, local and/or organic, and presented beautifully. If you appreciate quality ingredients and excellent food, this is a place not to miss. There was a bit of a wait so we sat at the bar and they provided complimentary pumpkin bean dip - delicious. We came while on a weekend away based on online reviews and were not disappointed. Great unique atmosphere... we loved that our 3 kids could all find something they loved even though there was no specific kids' menu (one wants to come back for her birthday dinner). The flavors of everything we tried were complex and layered without being too unfamiliar for younger palates. Several agreed that the chowder was the best we've had. The vegetarian French onion soup was also fabulous. Service was on point: attentive and informative without being intrusive, and the owner was very friendly. The pace of tapas-style dishes coming out one or two at a time was nice for enjoying each one on its own. We're already looking forward to coming back when we come to NH for our summer vacation. Had reservations at 5, ordered our food maybe at 5:10. We had two servers so it was kind of confusing/annoying when they would both come up to us at different times and ask the same questions. There were maybe 2 other parties in the restaurant at the same time and the waiters both seemed like they were stressed and aggravated. My salad came out right away (great) but my boyfriend ordered a pizza and I shit you not, i.t came out an HOUR later. The thing is, not once did our waiters say anything. Never asked us how we were doing, never even looked st us! And when the pizza finally came out he didn't mention anything about how long the wait was. Like hello??? I had already finished my salad long before his meal came out and we were almost about to pay for the salad and leave. 3 other tables were sat after we ordered and all of them got their food before his pizza. I felt so bad! It DEFINITELY was not worth the $18!!!! Was it good? Yes. Will we be coming back? No. Service was 4/10 and the prices are too high. I wanted to love it but it just wasn't for us. We went here for the first time last night for something good but low key for our anniversary and we are definitely glad that we did! First we were running, late and called to let them know and they were very gracious when we arrived the place was jammed and people were at the door waiting. Our table was in a corner of the bar area- next time we are hoping to rate a table in one of the quieter rooms, but the food made up for the table location. The owner welcomed us, explained the menu, told us who would serve us ( just about everyone) and off we went. We had several different small plates, each one better than the last. We started with the stacked spinach salad then on to artichoke hearts with chèvre and candied pecans, duck confit, calamari, steak bites and a flatbread. Despite the strange assortment, it was fabulous both by themselves and as a wonderful meal. The ingredients were fresh, cooked to perfection and the spices and sauce options amazing. Just when we thought we couldn't move from eating so much, they brought out a plate of 5 desserts as a complementary ending to celebrate our anniversary. We will go back to Tavern 27- often. We have lots of options in Boston but this place would compete with the top selections. Luckily we spend weekends in NH but we would drive the 90 Mins for this one read more

I've being going to Tavern 27 for 5 years and seen it grow from a curious gastronomic experiment into one of the best restaurents I've had the pleasure to visit. Their Tapas are not Spanish but they are original, creative and well worth trying. Ray - the owner/manager - has a superb staff and has created an outstanding ambiance. Just stopped here for lunch based on the Yelp reviews. We weren't disappointed. Love that they have a lot of gluten free options. They bring out sweet potato chips with a bean dip to start. I could eat that all day. We got the spicy cucumber lobster rolls. They were a bit overpriced (imo) but really delicious. The haddock bowl was very yummy. Gluten free breading and flash fried so not greasy. We got one of the salads with quinoa and they were great about dietary restrictions. Overall great experience! read more

So glad I read the reviews in & called ahead for a res. We got the only available table at 5:45. Our table was ready. Our server was pleasant and provided good, courteous service. The food was very good and between the 4 of us, we tried a good portion of the menu. Loved the Brussels sprouts, calamari, steak skewers, duck confit potstickers, clam chowder. Pizza was flat bread style and good. We were not crazy about the pork loin because it was tough and served on pita. The whiskey sour type cocktail also in that category because of being more fruity than sour. The most bizarre thing was the red wine by the glass arrived chilled like a white wine would be served. We were up in the Lakes Region with visiting friends, and decided to give this a try after looking on Yelp for someplace local to grab a bite. We were very pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by the owner, Ray, who got our table ready, and served by Nick, who was new and FABULOUS (you know you are!). We had such a good time and the food was awesome. Loved the duck confit eggrolls, although I would have preferred an entire plate of the fried ones - what's a little more fat? The accompanying sauces were very tasty. We also had the steak roulade, scotch eggs, fried haddock bites, brussel sprouts (to-die-for fresh), and calamari (which I can't vouch for because I don't eat it). Loved that there were lots of gluten free options, including the haddock bites, which were crispy and delish with a slightly spicy tartar sauce. We thought the portion sizes were great, and I don't think any of us wished we hadn't ordered something we did - it was all good. We were given a complimentary dish of sweet potato chips and a spicy pumpkin bean dip when we were seated. It was amazing! Also, the pomegranate sangria was excellent. Heard great things about Tavern 27 and the place did not disappoint. We were greeted at the door by the owner and given a great review of the menu and concept. What a find! It's a little out of town but well worth the extra 2 or 3 miles. Tapas menu with a twist was without compare. We had artichoke bites, scotch egg (my favorite) and haddock. We had dinner there last night. First let me say the food was very good, well priced and good portions. Granted, we were not the typical group for this type of restaurant, But we wanted to split the checks and the waitress made it out to be a hassle, and wait staff overall was not so polite. They recommended a drink special, which my girlfriend ordered. The drink was quite large, watered down and very little alcohol, and when we received the check, that drink was $18, something that should be mentioned wheni recommending a special. read more
