My husband and I went to Meredith, NH for our "minimoon" in September 2014 and found this gem of a restaurant! We actually went two of the three nights we were in town because we enjoyed it so much. The service was friendly and attentive, the pianist was great (he took requests via texts!), and best of all the food was delicious. The menu is creative and uses fresh and local ingredients. We loved the superfood salad, the pizzas are to die for, and the haddock bites hit the spot. The food comes out right when it's ready-- no waiting in the kitchen... the chef even delivered one of our tapas! Also, highly recommend the basil lemonade (we did non-alcoholic, but I bet it'd be great either way). Don't miss this spot! read more

This was our second time at Tavern 27. The first time was terrific, so we returned about a year later. Unfortunately, tonight the crab cakes were very dry and the shrimp was overcooked. My date was upset because the chai tea did not come with milk. The two salads we had were terrific (Superfood and Steak and Cheese (I forget the proper names)) and the bread pudding was great. I liked everything about this place. The martini glasses and drinks were perfect. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the owner Ray was gracious and loved to tell the history of the building. We found this place when driving through the area and searching for restaurants with Gluten Free options. We were skeptical at first glance but know better than to "judge a book by its cover"... especially when it comes to discovering new restaurants ! We were greeted promptly and were seated at a small high top right near the piano. The live piano music made the entire experience somewhat whimsical.. We really enjoyed that. The extensive tapas menu was really fun to explore.. We tried 7 plates ! The dishes were all pretty unique ... Our favorite was the Garlic Poppers. Just got back from Tavern 27 and I highly recommend checking this place out, The food is incredible, the atmosphere quaint and the wait staff were knowledgeable and very attentive. We started with the stacked spinach salad followed by the scallop tapas and sweet Asian grilled shrimp. We couldn't pass on the famous bread pudding and it was incredible. We will definitely be going back.....the only decision now will be what we order next time. read more

I just finished having my birthday dinner at Tavern 27, and I can hands down say this was the best meal I have ever had. I have traveled quite a bit, and nothing has compared. The excellent food, quaint and warm atmosphere, extremely friendly and helpful service all made this so worth it. We would drive back up from Cape Cod to come back here. Every single plate that came out was better than the next, and it was very clear that the food was made with truly quality ingredients. The owner surprised me and presented me and my guests with a plate of unbelievably delicious treats - including his family recipe of apple cake, amazing bread pudding, and chocolate cake. Everything was absolutely perfect, and I would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat. I will most certainly be back. read more

We had dinner there last night. First let me say the food was very good, well priced and good portions. Granted, we were not the typical group for this type of restaurant, But we wanted to split the checks and the waitress made it out to be a hassle, and wait staff overall was not so polite. They recommended a drink special, which my girlfriend ordered. The drink was quite large, watered down and very little alcohol, and when we received the check, that drink was $18, something that should be mentioned wheni recommending a special. read more

Our waitress was very sweet and it was obvious the staff cared about making it a treat to be there. We didn't have reservations but Ray made room for us at the piano. It was great and the service was excellent. The bread pudding is a must have! Went to Tavern 27 with my wife last night with anticipation from all the high reviews. I'll start by saying the food is indeed outstanding as well as the service. But there is a bit more to a dining experience than food and service. Tavern 27 is located in a small farm house. Although the house was rustic and clean on felt like someone had come in and built a restaurant in Grandma's front parlor, everything just felt odd. The first bad impression was upon our being greeted by the host who clearly ignored me and only addressed my tall blond wife. A gentleman in his mid to late 30's was just unprofessional and made me feel he was flirting with my wife... In front of me! Just plain weird. After we sat and ate for a while, (the alcohol drinks good by the way) we notice an occasional shout from perhaps the kitchen we assumed. The shouts became a point of amusement as the short outburst would sometimes last up to 10 seconds long. I asked the our waitress what the shouting was about and as expected is was the cook yelling: "Runner" I've been to restaurants all over America and that was a first , hearing such inappropriate shouting coming from a Chef. A young man in his late teens played an old saloon type piano, perhaps to mask the drill squad shouting coming from the kitchen!!! I feel bad for the "runner" waitstaff. Like I said, the food was wonderful, the drinks were generous but the staff (the "trolling for date" host who seated us) and the contrived feeling of the old house left me feeling out of place. Prices were fair and we left a generous tip. I'll mention that there is absolutely no handicap accommodation to assist the handicap population so that excludes a number of people right off, to bad. Would I go back? Perhaps some day but taking small kids and the family would not be likely... I'll give my experience 3 stars. A rather disappointing dinning experience. read more

Our first time to Laconia, so we checked out yelp for places to eat and after reading the reviews picked Tavern 27. We were not disappointed at all! Being in a renovated old farmhouse, the ambiance was unique and cozy without feeling crowded. The wait staff was friendly and attentive without being pushy. The food was absolutely delicious! We were starving, and ordered 5 tapas plates and I'm hard pressed to pick a favorite, lol! My husband was kind enough to agree to dessert and the dark chocolate flourless cake was to die for! My only regret was that I was too full to do it justice, lol! read more

First and only time visiting this restaurant. We entered, stood for a FEW minutes with no greet or instruction, so sat down figuring we were supposed to seat ourselves. Well apparently that was a mistake; the OWNER quickly intervened and said, "We have a problem. First of all YOU don't have a reservation and YOU don't seat yourself." We should have left but reluctantly waited for a table. We ordered soda and I got a glass of pinot grigio; my wine was completely watered down! We ordered 4 'Tapas' for three of us, after the waitress said we would have SO MUCH food! Needless to say, the crab cakes were little balls of dryness on a stick, the French fries were small serving for one, the 'steak remoulade' or something like that was nothing more than deli roast beef rolled with mashed potatoes. To be honest...I don't even remember what the fourth 'tapas' was. I left after dropping more than $50 and felt beat up and hungry. Will NEVER recommend this place and will NEVER return. So accomodating. We increased the number of guests multiple times - ending with 17 (the largest single party we think they have had :) Because of the size of our party (adults & children), we went with the chefs choice and didn't have to choose a thing. They were ready and waiting for us - no wait! Which is fantastic when you have little ones. I loved the "square deal" beverage and believe I tried everything they had to offer. I would have given 5 stars but we weren't fans of the haddock bites - a bit overdone and some said they were "fishy" (my bites weren't fishy). (also, would like a changing table in the restroom). My favorite was beef bourguignon!. If I am ever back in the area, I will be returning. read more

My boyfriend and I have tried this place twice. The first time we went in for an appetizer and a couple beers. We loved some sort of poppers we had, really special and good. But the whole time the owner was next to us talking with a couple about how the business came about, what brought them there... on and on, I think the couple enjoyed meeting him but I just got tired of hearing him talking...blah...blah....brag...brag...So a couple months we went back. Worse! The staff is great, friendly and hard working and soooo nice. The wife/ owner is also nice and always working really hard- but her husband is easy to spot. He's always sitting down with a big glass of water and blah...blah...blah....doesn't seem to want to help or work. Hard to ignore him because he is kind of loud and a real presence and I'm not sure why he isn't helping at all when his wife and staff are running around-- and look like they could really use his help but he doesn't seem to notice. He just won't stop talking! I think other guests find this charming, but I really felt the owner thinks he's the whole show. read more

The first time we went here we had to wait which is acceptable considering we did not have reservations. The food is delicious. I can not deny this. I do draw the line when I had reservations and the waitress was extremely off in another world. She kept forgetting what we ordered and the experience turned out to be the most painful one I have had in a long time in a restaurant. She forgot to order my son's steak and our second round of cocktails. All in all we were there for 2.5 hours before we finally got our main meal. We will never go there again. I will go to the dentist to get my teeth pulled before we go there again. They claim it is busy when only four tables were occupied. Unless you want to wait for miniature portions and they will tell you they are out of this is that go somewhere else. I really don't think it takes 45 minutes to pour one glass of beer and one glass of wine! read more

I've had several good experiences here in the past, but this Valentine's day this place just seemed to be going downhill. The chickpea fries which I always look forward to getting, were dry as a bone and there was so much raw garlic in the poppers that 2 brushings later I could still taste it - yuck. This last visit my husband and I ordered 5 items, and 2 of them were forgotten. I'm a vegetarian, which is one of the reasons I have loved this place and I understand it generally leads to a smaller total on the check. The table next to us, who were seated a good half an hour after we were, ordered 2 $30 specials and a round of single malt scotch. There's very little that can be more irritating in a restaurant to see people who were seated after you receive food before you. I understand it's human nature for the server to want to pay more attention to the table that's spending more, but what happened was a little ridiculous. Had they had a special that I could eat I would certainly have gotten it. The last item to come out, long after we had finished the rest of the food, was the pork dish for my husband, and it was just awkward for both of us for me to sit there and watch while he finished his dinner. We pushed the plate to the center of the table, waiting to be offered a box, and when the server came back, she didn't even speak, she just STARED waiting for us to either ask for a box or a refund. My hubby and I decided not to order dessert and coffee like we had planned, and just left. We still tipped 20% despite the awful service, and our check before tip was only about $58. We'd driven by this place fore more than 25 years and wrote it off as an odd little 9 hole golf course and what we assumed was a burger and sandwich menu. Didn't realize that new owners had taken over until a friend recommended Tavern 27 to us last week. So thrilled that we went there tonight to add this to the top of our favorite restaurant list , which is pitifully short.. The owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly. The farmhouse setting is funky and attractive. Great acoustic guitarist singing soft rock from the 70's. UNBELIEVABLE food! Three of us ordered a variety of things from this awesomely creative tapas menu: baked onion/kale soup, clam chowder (best I've ever had!), chickpea fries w/ chipotle ketchup & spicy mayo, huge bowl of varied olives served w/ the best, most delicate lightly grilled sourdough bread, caesar salad and a bocadillo - thinly sliced, perfectly seasoned & moist pork topped with candied onions on warm naan sourdough. All of it delicious beyond belief. Tried 2 desserts: flourless chocolate cake, dense and delish, and a trio of tiny apple tarts topped with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. Fabulous both. If you are looking for a fantastic local restaurant off the beaten path, I highly recommend Tavern 27. We were greeted by the proprietor, Ray, who was most hospitable. He went out of his way to seat us without a reservation, even though it is highly recommended due its limited seating capacity. We were treated to a complimentary bottle of PI mineral water which is bottled at the restaurant, as well as a fantastic appetizer consisting of home made sweet potato chips and chic pea dip. The restaurant is a converted country home, and the ambiance is the epitome of New England - very rustic, casual and comfortable. The menu is simply irresistible, offering a vast array of original tapas recipes created by the proprietor and wife team. Ray is a true restauranteur, which is reflected in his love and pride of the culinary arts, and his establishment. Also to no ones surprise, is that his staff is as equally impressive - highly knowledgeable and very attentive. Ok...guess it's time I write a review of this place. First of all, don't let the outside deceive you, a little rough around the edges, but all is good once you get inside. Had a girls dinner out last night, have been several times in the past and have never been disappointed. The food is cooked to order, so yes, it does take some time, but that gives you time to enjoy what you just ate before you move onto the next course. Local as much as can be and unusual. Ramps anyone? Had my first "tipsy jar" and will be having one of those again. Refreshingly delicious. Food included French onion soup with kale, artichoke bites, Scotch egg, T shrimp, haddock bowl and the special grilled steak tip pinchos and let's not forget the best bread pudding you'll ever taste. Old stagecoach tavern atmosphere, always changing specials for both food and drink, piano bar, open mike night, entertainment on the others. So flawless, my boyfriend joked we had dreamed it. We drove to Lake Winnipesaukee from NYC for a weekend & found the food in the Lake Region very underwhelming - until Tavern 27. From the complimentary Pi water & sweet potato chips with bean dip to the flowers our server drew on our takeaway box & the owner's insistence on walking me to our car with an umbrella, this place is almost too good to be believed. We were impressed by the wine list, the focus on local ingredients, the chowder, the spicy pork & onion jam bocadillos, the speed of service accomplished by the small staff, and maybe most of all, the prices. Given the quality of our experience, I was expecting our final bill to be twice what it was. Don't let me give you the impression this place is highfalutin or inaccessible; it's small with paintings of Burmese Mountain dogs & kitschy golf memorabilia on the walls. Very disappointed in my last visit this past weekend. I will note that me and the party of 2 I arrived with did not arrive with reservations, but that does not excuse the demeanor and attitude of the staff. Once we were able to find a couple of seats at the bar, we were ignored for approximately ten minutes. When asked if we could order some drinks, the bartender quickly told us he had to prioritize other customers. Approximately eight minutes later, he said he could take our drink order. Two of us ordered martinis, the third water. We were then told I could not be served as I was standing. Instead of doing the correct thing and just recommending the person not drinking and I switch places, I received a condescending attitude. Not that this should have mattered, as I have been many other places in NH where serving a standing person is not an issue. This will be my last visit, there are plenty of other local businesses in the area that can use my disposable income. read more
