First of all, I have no problem with the food. But my wife and I went in there today, and the server immediately barked at my wife for having brought a glass bottle of water which he saw sitting on the table: "YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT IN HERE!" he barked, gaining the attention of nearby tables. My wife asked what he meant, and he barked again, "YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT IN HERE. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT'S INSIDE OF IT. NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK". My wife responded that it's filtered water, and he said theirs is too. She asked if it was reverse-osmosis filtered, and he scoffed "I DON'T KNNNOOW!" (as if the question was stupid, as if all filtered water was the same). She put it away and we quietly ate our food and left him a measly tip, because that experience was so off-putting. The first words out of his mouth should have been: "Hi, how are you all doing this fine day? Oh..I see you have a bottle of water there...(grimacing)...I'm so sorry, but we don't really allow that. But you can order filtered water or mineral water if you'd like...!" But instead, there was no greeting, but an instant: "YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT IN HERE!" as if we were brought in a dirty dog, or a lit sparkler, that we were doing something obvious illegal and wrong, and we had to immediately stop it. Been three times and the food was really good. I've always got the burger sometimes with sweet potatoe fries and other times veggies.

Decided to try Tavern for a weekday lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see if fairly full. I was excited to get a nicer dining option in this area and the food did not disappoint. My wife and I each got a burger - Impossible Burger for her and BBQ for me. The burgers were large, well cooked, and the sides (fries, salad) were very solid. The decor was nice, we especially liked the booth seat material and Edison lightbulbs throughout. The staff was attentive and friendly. Looking forward to trying the drink menu, it looked like a lot of great craft cocktails. Unfortunately Tavern lost a star for the slow service. We were sat directly after a large group so I'm sure that was partially to blame, but it was nearly 45 minutes from being seated to getting lunch. First time and thought rather then going down town we would give this a try. First thing that caught my eye was an expansive list of select bourbon's and Scotch's. If they had a cigar area life would be great!! Ordered three appetizers: Kung Pao Calamari, Bussel Sprouts, and asparagus, I believe. They were Outstanding, not only the flavor but presentation as well. The service was equal. Sadly the main entrees did not follow in suit. Caesar salad I was told was not good and they only ate half. I had the house green salad with Italian and it was nothing worth mentioning and I love salad... I had the nights special "Halibut" $38.00 The fish was very good, the green beans were cold (Not room temp but cold) and had to be replaced as well as other vegetable that were delivered. The "special" rice it came with had ZERO flavor and I had to add Soy sauce. One ordered the Salmon and that was good.. Two people ordered steak, one Filet and one Ribeye. Both came way under cooked almost raw (One ordered medium and one Med rare) and they said they were not worth the price. (Whatever that means) LOL Yes, they could/should have sent them back... I think they are trying to be a bit high end and trendy but not really reaching the bar. We dropped over $500 without a tip and for that $$$ I do expect more. I want so badly to love this place. It's close to my house, just the right level of upscale, and offers a pleasant atmosphere and wait staff. The problem? The food. It's atrocious. I see the chef in back with reading glasses on, looking stressed as hell with 25 minute ticket times and garbage food coming out. Garbage? What do you mean? I mean coconut shrimp that looks like a crab cake and tastes fishy. I mean Mac and cheese that looks like soup. And a yam side that is a microwaved pulverized sweet potato cut in half and no salt. Poor thing. Again; I hate to write this. This was my second visit after a lackluster performance month ago with my parents. Oh and last -- they are slow. The wait staff is nice about it but food takes forever to come out of the kitchen. You'd think it wouldn't taste so awful with the time it takes. read more

This place was pretty good. We came here for lunch and there were some flavorful options. I ended up ordering the salmon salad which has capers, olives and salmon. The salon was freezing n cold anD really salty which was a little disappointing but otherwise prettyy good. My husband got the jalapeño burger and it looked delish. He finished the whole thing and it was pretty big. I did get a bite of his sweet potatoe fries and those were really darn good! I ordered our almost 3 year old the cheeseburger kids meal which he didn't even touch but that's not because of the foood and just because he's a picky eating 2 year old. An inner sanctum of dark and basically uninviting ambiance. The cooking left a lot to be desired and was expensive for what we got. A salmon bisque so thick and pasty that the spoon stood up by itself. And so salty, we sent it back. No apologies or suggestions for a better choice. Splitting a sandwich was no better. Small, but we still left some on the plate. The brioche bun fell apart as we tried to eat it. Yuck! Don't think we will return. read more

We met friends here for dinner. It is in a sort of business park so the outside hadn't jumped out at us. There is a lot of free parking. Once inside, the atmosphere is really fun and comfortable. We received excellent service from a really friendly server. The four of us each had different meals and all were delicious. The Buffalo cauliflower appetizer was absolutely delicious!! I prefer brioche buns but they had potato buns,one of the best burgers in the valley.We sat at the bar and the service,as usual was excellent. It was alright. Mostly booths and I prefer tables so I sat at the bar. Nice attractive suburban restaurant and bar space, efficient if quiet bartender. I ordered a Reuben with steak fries. Reuben came with mustard instead of thousand island or Russian dressing, so the sandwich lacked that sweet undertone. Fries were good, not as big as what I normally call steak fries but good flavor and texture, not greasy. Bloody Mary was tasty but not that big and kind of spendy. Stool was pretty uncomfortable but bar stools are usually uncomfortable. Might try it again sometime, not in a rush though. I used to eat here 5 times a month. I brought my mom and brother from out of town. So excited to share a local treat. It was a huge disappointment. First no crown Royal, no halibut special, nothing on the downtown menu that I also love. I ordered the half wedge salad with extra dressing (which is my usual start)....this is how it arrived after 49 minutes. I hate to be a jerk but they can do so much better. I know...I've seen it. Alas it will be a while until I return. And my out of town guests will probably never know how great the tavern could have been. We are very happy to find that on a Saturday afternoon the tavern at Eagle Island was not too crowded. My husband and two young children and I were quickly sat at a table and given menus. Drinks arrived as expected and we looked over the menu. My husband decided on the Steak Grinder sandwich and I got the Fried Chicken sandwich. Kids got the Mac and cheese and added fruit (it didn't come with a side). The chicken sandwich was good, big thick piece of meat with flavorful chipotle sauce, onions and pickles. I thought the chicken itself was a little lacking in salt, and after I asked for salt and pepper it was much better. Unfortunately that was halfway through the sandwich because the waitress was nowhere to be seen after dropping off our food. My husband enjoyed his steak sandwich, I'm not a fan of horseradish so it wasn't for me. The fries were thick, nice unique steak fries. My entire meal was hot, while my husbands was lukewarm. My daughter's Mac and cheese was barely warm, but had a good flavor. The restaurant was probably half full, and I have honestly found that when places aren't that busy, service is worse. My biggest complaint was our server, who did not refill our drinks several times and I had to ask for ranch twice. She was only waiting two tables, not sure where she kept disappearing to. The food is not cheap, but it is good quality. I would have given five stars if it weren't for that subpar service- I asked for mac & cheese to go and it took a long time even though I ordered it early. We will probably give it another chance, maybe it will be better service during dinner time or with a different waitress. read more

First time at this location. Greeted with a nice smile and friendly hostess. Our server, Rose, was so friendly and helpful. She made suggestions for the appetizer, garlic hummus, which was divine. Made a great suggestion for the chicken potato soup and salad. She constantly filled our water and checked back to ensure we were fine. Our check was brought to us and processed quickly and we were quickly on our way. I'll be back for the service, Rose and the food. The only drawback to this location is the tight and limited parking. Finally drug the ol' Ball & Chain down for a really nice dinner here at Tavern. We were served outstanding food by a really excellent waiter named Johnny. I had the surf n turf special which was absolutely a-mazing and the Missus had the lobster tail on pasta (capillini?)... we also hammered down some of the asparagus tempura app which also exceeded expectations. Whoa! This place is really good! I think I've been there three times now in the last three months and I've been surprised each time even though I come back with high standards. This last time it was the pot roast nachos that astounded me if you haven't had those yet or if you were checking this out, considering trying out this restaurant, I will only say ...save this one for the date night, because it's a little bit pricier, and because date nights need that special place in reserve. Wow Wow Wow. If you've read my other restaurant reviews you know that my wife and I always order a Calamari appetizer if it's on the menu. I have to say the Kung Pao Calamari appetizer at this place is off the charts great and the best we've both had! We each had a hamburger for our entree and both were excellent!!!! The bun was so light and flavorful that we looked at each other and said "whatever they used or made is awesome" The steak fries were great and crispy. I had regular steak fries and my wife had the sweet type. When I looked at the menu online a desert item caught my eye. We don't usually order desert but I had to try the three berry cobbler with ice cream. The wife rolled her eyes as if to say She was already full and had no room for desert. Absolutely TERRIBLE -and we won't be back!! This place has gone so downhill and the GM does take time to care about satisfying his customers. We dine here quite often but the last three visits here were terrible. I'll write about the latest. Ordered a half wedge salad, literally came with 3, small quarter layers of lettuce leaves and the rest of the salad was walnuts, bacon and tomatoes. It wasn't even an actual wedge. I asked the waitress where all the lettuce was and she agreed it was pretty small. She brought me out another one and it was exactly the same, 3 layers of leaves and the rest toppings and dressing. Her excuse was "perhaps the vendors". I also ordered the Boursen chicken with steamed broccoli For $18. They served me literally 3 chicken tenders with boursen suace on top and a few small button mushrooms...not even a whole chicken breast! The worst part was the broccoli. They should have been utterly embarrassed to serve (pictures posted). It was like old bagged broccoli that had turned black, that they didn't bother even going through to pick the bad pieces out or cut the black stems off. When I showed the waitress she acted like She didn't know what I was showing her and said, "well I wouldn't know. I don't eat broccoli!" She then said she'd send the manager over, in which he never came but she came back and said, "yea he said that's how it's served!" I demanded for him to come to the table to look at it. When he did, he agreed it looked black but acted as if it was no big deal and said, "what would you like me to do cut the ends off?" After having to educate him what bad, molded bagged broccoli looked like, he offered to make me more himself. Once he brought the new ones out, he made a point to tell me he cut the ends off, however it looked NO better because the floral part of the broccoli also had black molded spots that he neglected to see and throw out! I told him it looked no better and he just walked away. At this point my meal should had been comped out of embarrassment to have served that at a restaurant like the Tavern. The waitresses excuse for the GM was perhaps his age. My complaints and education of what fresh Vs. old broccoli looked like fell on deaf ears. My dinner was disgusting and I will not be back. As a sister restaurant to The Owyhee, I hope the owners take review of this location and make some changes soon! read more

We've been here many times now and we continue to return because the food is almost always good. Sometimes even great. The only thing I can't get over is the service. Slow is an understatement. Sometimes it takes 10 to 15 minutes, as did today, to receive the initial drink order. Servers are almost always pleasant and the food is usually good. I would go as far to say very good on occasion. Great menu selection, great ambience, pretty clean, but the only thing that keeps me from returning frequently is the service is slow. It's about 2:25 PM on a Thursday afternoon. No one was attending the front desk when I arrived so it took at least five minutes to be seated. Once I was seated it took about eight minutes, possibly 10, for someone to take my drink order. If the service was on par with other great restaurants and the Treasure Valley, this would be a 3 1/2 to 4 easily. Today's visit was one of the better ones. Great food, service was good. By good I mean timely. Great personalities as usual. I will continue to return because it's fairly close to my home and the food is usually good. I really wish somebody would fix the service issue though. Just to be clear, it's not that I want to be in and out in a hurry, I would just like my food and drink in a timely manner so I can enjoy the atmosphere that you've put so much time and money into. read more
