The interior is nice and everything looks clean. I think the food is good if not great. The spicy pasta isn't actually spicy which was a bit strange but it still tasted good. Our server was polite but it looked like he'd rather be anywhere on the planet than in the restaurant which was a bit of a bummer for us. Went on a weekday and it was still a little busy which I see as a good sign. I first visited Tavern in the Square a few years ago and at the time felt a little underwhelmed by what I ordered. I waited a while before trying it again, but ever since I've been back, I have returned a bunch of times! Not only have I dined in but also ordered takeout and have enjoyed all of the food (and drinks) I have had since that first time. Some of our favorites for starters are the fried pickles and buffalo cauliflower. I also love the fish tacos and bayou pasta for entrees. They are very good with food allergies, and it's so refreshing to be able to order food for my nephews and know that they have a lot of really delicious options to choose from. read more

Great place to come and grab a drink after work. I sat by the bar and ordered a strawberry margarita with sugar on the rim and it was bomb! I visited the place for the first time during the severe power outage the week of July 4. My power was out for a good day and a half and I had to get out. I ate some food so I wouldn't have to throw it out tavern in the square was open because they had power. I was dropped off there. I took two bartenders of the first shift and one bartender from the second shift that I was gonna be here a bit got another box saying I couldn't get another beverage until I had something. Went to have a drink and appetizer. Nice restaurant cool environment lots of TV's indoor and outdoor seating windows open up large bar. We ordered two sour ale beers and the chicken nachos. The beer was tasty. The nachos were piled high but the chips were burnt and I felt like the chicken might have been canned. It was piled so high that it was actually difficult to eat and all the topping were on top so once you got past the top you just had a bunch of overcooked chips with no toppings left. I'd rather get a plate of nachos on a more spread out plate so it's evenly distributed and not so many wasted chips. We didn't try any entrees so we'll have to go back and try something different so I can update this review and hopefully have a better rating. The waitress was great and super nice. We had a great experience here. We were able to get a last minute reservation for 5 people. I didn't feel crowded in, and they're still doing a good job with social distancing even if masks are no longer required. The service was very good, and the drinks were great! I had the sangria, which was awesome. The fried pickle chips were delicious, and I really enjoyed the bbq chicken pizza. I got it with the cauliflower crust, and it was really good. I didn't feel like I was eating cauliflower. The kids menu is amazing. There are a lot of choices and my daughter was delighted she could get plain pasta with butter. The atmosphere was great, for a Wednesday night it was very busy but there was no trouble seating us. The staff were super nice and the food came quick. I really wish this review was better. After going multiple times, I will say the food is awesome, pricey but awesome. Service is lackluster. I don't like leaving reviews after one visit as it may have been a one off, but after the third visit things haven't changed from the first. I prefer to sit at the bar, usually better service, not here. Multiple bartender behind the bar but trying to flag one down to order a drink or food was a struggle. At one point not one bartender behind the bar. I'll go back one more time and hope that the previous three were an anomaly, but we shall see. read more

We went here for an interview lunch and it was pretty busy for a Wednesday. The weather was perfect at the time so they had the area open with wind blowing in which was nice. I ended up getting the fish tacos. The fish had a great flavor which sometimes can be an issue with fish tacos; the fish has no flavor. The avocado which is usually don't eat added a nice creaminess along with the sauce. The salsa added a nice mild heat and the cabbage was crisp. Really enjoyed the tacos. The service was really great. Very nice, attentive, and served with a smile. Also, the establishment had an upperclass sports bar feel compared to most sports bars I've been to. I sat at the bar and and the bartender was attentive and polite. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of gluten-free options they have as they had so much more than just salads. One of the things I miss is general Taos chicken, and they have it on their menu and it's gluten-free. While their food and atmosphere is not necessarily a five-star restaurant, I gave it 5 five stars within, the category they exist in which to me is a chain restaurant. I have been there twice now. The first time we went with a large group it was great. The second time my husband and I went it was just fine. The space is big enough to accommodate large parties. It is a more classy sports bar with better food. I have ordered the chicken Cobb salad twice now. Each time it has been very large and delicious. The warm pretzels with warm cheese fondue were great. The table we sat at, everyone was leaning against it and talking really loud while they waited for a table. A wall or partition should be in place. Food was mediocre. Came here on New Years Eve after the PC game (sorry about that, Georgetown fans) because I received a gift certificate from people at work and they take reservations on Open Table- a perfect storm. I didn't even know this place existed, as I am not a big shopper at Garden City, but it was crowded when we arrived, someone knows about it. As it was 8PM, there was no parking issue, as only the other GC restaurants were open at this time. We were seated immediately in the deceptively huge, open air, warwhouse-style dining area. There's good energy in the room, not too loud or overwhelming, however, for a very large, high end type sports bar style restaurant. There are lots of TVs and most of the seating allows opportunity to enjoy them. Not from my seat, however (see pictures of the lovely brick wall I got to look at). Dining room is clean and well maintained. Good sized oak tables, modern lighting and open architecture make the room simultaneously inviting, warm and "cool" (no charge for that one, Gina). The bathrooms were equally clean and well appointed. The faucet on one of sinks was broken, however and therefore only one sink was operating properly. The other issue that came up was the screws that are inexplicably drilled into the tables on all sides have rough edges heads and the one by where I was sitting caught and pulled out my sweater. Not a great feature. Menu is interesting and there are a lot of favorites and little twists on classics. We had a couple of burgers, a pizza and a quinoa bowl. There's also an extensive drink selection, with 36 different brands of bourbon/whiskeys, etc and a large selection of beers and wines. Food came reasonably quickly but was served to us in a hit and run style. Dropped and ran. No one asked if we needed anything else. Fortunately, our server came by a few minutes late(r) and cleaned up that issue. The pizza is hand stretched, with very fresh toppings. The thin crust dough is chewy and tasty and the perfect size as well. The quinoa bowl was "delicious" with "a lot going on" in a medley of beets, squash, green beans, goat cheese, cauliflower, avacado and some other toppings that could not be identified, but added texture and taste. The beef and turkey burgers were devoured so quickly it was hard to get a review beyond two thumbs up and smiling faces. Add a warm skillet chocolate chip cookie and ice cream and you've got a pretty great dinner for the family and friends. Overall, great room (depending on where you're sitting), average service, really good, fresh, creative, from-scratch food at good (for the location) prices. It's worth the visit, as the things that kept this from being a slam dunk may be ameliorated at another day/time. It's quite a good option for a family or sports enthusiast. Something for everyone. This for me was just an okay meal. I came here to meet a friend for a quick bite and we hadn't been able to hang out for a while so it turned into a longer dinner. We ended up getting the bang bang broccoli which I thought was terribly mushy and I didn't quite care for it. I ended up getting the Nashville hot fried chicken which also was just okay. For my drink I ended up ordering a cider which was pretty good. Service was okay They are very busy The waitress spilled a lot of alcohol and water over my purse. Totally her mistake but it's something that I would hope they pay more attention to and not being such a rush. Overall I thought that the value for the money was a bit overpriced and I'm not sure I would be in a rush to come back here again especially with legal Sea foods down the way and it being such incredibly good food. read more

While this restaurant has been open for a year now, I finally decided to stop in for a quick bite. Located in the beautifully updated and ever expanding Garden City, it's quite deceiving from the outside. I walked in and couldn't believe how big this place was! I went on a Wednesday evening and it was pretty busy with most tables occupied. My friend and I really enjoy sitting at the bar and there were a few open seats. The bar is big with plenty of beer choices on tap. Our bartender was very personable and friendly. I had the spicy Margarita and my friend had a beer. My drink was delicious. We were only there for a quick bite so we ordered two appetizers. One was the buffalo style cauliflower bites and the other was their classic pizza. The pizza was very good and the cauliflower bites were nothing I've ever experienced before. They were really delicious! Perfectly seasoned with a tangy buffalo sauce with a side of bleu cheese dressing. I was eyeing some of the entrees that were ordered by other peeps seated at the bar and they looked delicious as well. The tavern has a modern industrial decor with beautiful lighting. There's a large steel open oven with an open kitchen. I didn't count the number of tv screens there were, but there were plenty!! This is a great place to dine and drink, a bonus if you enjoy watching sports in a really nice environment. The prices were reasonable as well. We have not been to Tavern in the Square since just before the Pandemic as their wonderful buffet has been discontinued due to what we are all undergoing. However, we were in the area in the late afternoon and decided we wanted a late lunch and so glad we did. My husband and I were thrilled with the vegetarian pizza or as the menu indicates: Pumpkin & Goat Cheese Pizza, consisting of caramelized onions, pumpkin seed pesto, hot honey. It was scrumptious! And to that, we shared the huge, tasty chopped Greek salad with romaine, veggies, roasted chickpeas, mint, toasted pita, kalamata olives, and feta served with a lemon tahini dressing. We were both very satisfied with the quality and quantity and would definitely order those two items again. It's a convenient location in garden city to grab a drink with a friend. Nothing to write home about. Plenty of space for larger groups too. Tavern comes through again! Weekday lunch, seated by all the big corner windows up front. Second visit here. Awesome rewards program and a special one day discount for items on the G-free menu items sweetened the deal. Server was on it, from A to Z. Ice tea was balanced with no bitterness. A choice of several huge side servings of their salads can be ordered with an entree for 8 bucks. We both had the Greek salad with roasted seasoned chickpeas, kalamatas, grape tomatoes and crisp lettuce tossed in a light, zesty dressing with a ton of crumbled feta and pita shards. I knew upon finishing the salad that we would be taking home a good portion of our mains. Husband had Steak Tips with bourbon glaze, generous pile of mashed and tender crisp broccoli. That leftover steak made outstanding sandwiches next day for lunch. I did the killer Bayou Chicken Pasta. Roasted jalapeno and onions in this one. GF rigs, spicy cream sauce and plenty of melty cheese. Chicken was tender and great grilled flavor.Took half home as well, but finished it later that night. Great bang for your buck and excellent quality! Atmosphere is animated, but not overbearing, and sitting by the windows is great people watching. People are happy with spring. I find this place just ok. We have gone here a few times mainly for a bite and a beer. I do like their draft beer selection which even includes my favorite, Allagash White. We usually just order appetizers, so nothing too special there. They have TVs for anyone interested in watching some games. I'm docking another star since last time we went, we were urged to leave 40 minutes before closing time. They turned off all TVs and music 20 minutes before that. Not like a second round of drinks from us would have made their evening, but it was a shame that they advertise closing time to be 10 when they start closing by 9 with no explanation. It won't prevent me from returning (although it won't be on a late night again), but I wouldn't recommend the place to others. read more

We came here on a Sunday at 2 and it was packed! Parking wasn't too difficult to find, but a table for 4 was a 30 minute wait. However, once we were sat down our appetizers and food came out at a good pace. We started off with the honey sriracha wings and baked feta dip. The wings could have been a bit spicy to bring out the sriracha component but I feel as though it was overpowered with sweetness. The baked feta dip was good but I thought it would be more viscous. Instead it was liquidy and hard to pick up with the pita chips. I don't think the portion of pita chips they give are enough for the dip. I did like that there were a lot of competing flavors like nutty, sweet, tangy, and sharp. The picante burger was not picante at all. It was a very basic bacon cheeseburger essentially. I didn't really think I'd like the fries based on how they looked so I opted for the steamed broccoli and I was glad they did not overcook it like most places do (or use frozen broccoli). It takes about 10 minutes before anyone comes over to us. This is a new place, no welcoming which you'd expect. Drinks: We order 2 espresso martinis, the drinks were good but 11 bucks for a 3 ounce drink no side car is a bit pricey. * Took a little nap waiting for the server to come back to take our order Food: We ordered the Greek wrap and the spicy tempura broccoli. I'll give it to them both items came out pretty quickly after we ordered and were delicious. Tip: House fries are frozen, go with the tots. Drink #2: A couple of simple draft beers, both were standard quality (not flat or dirty lines) Overall: Nice decor, large space to bring a group. The food was surprisingly really good, but you are paying 15 dollars for a sandwich, so it should be. The burger is simply delicious. Juicy, seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. The nachos were a bit lacking for the price point. There wasn't much more to it than melted cheese and chips for $13. There were a few bits of tomato and jalapenos, but no guacamole or sour cream. You could add chicken for $3 more, but was disappointed chili wasn't an option. The nachos definitely needed more flavor. Sat at the bar, so many tvs and typical loud atmosphere. Lots of good beers on tap and pretty extensive mixed drink menu. Came here to meet my husband for a quick dinner. We shared nachos for an appetizer, he got the fried chicken sandwich and I got the pasta dish with the chicken and jalapeños and corn. This place is good for what it is. Someone said it best when they told me it was a high-end Applebee's. My pasta dish was pretty good, and my husband liked his chicken sandwich. But I had to take a star off for the nachos they were terrible. They have a lot of potential but very poorly made. There was only cheese and toppings on the very first layer, and underneath that was just all crushed chips with nothing on them. For the price of $12 and then the additional up charge of guacamole this should have been a lot better than it was. For the same price you can get amazing nachos at a lot of other restaurants. Been here a few time now and it has always been solid. Mostly went for picky food and apps, but I would say it's in the upper side of pub food. I'm not 100% sure how many locations there are but it does have a chain like vibe, but that's not a negative. Wings, fried pickles and nachos were good. Fried pickles exceeded expectations actually. My daughter got the kids pancakes, in was during brunch, and they were huge and really really go. Overall I would definitely go back. Only downside was the booth we got in the back was like a high top/booth hybrid, and it was very awkward and difficult to get in and out of.
