My husband and I eat at Tavern on Main at least once or twice a week. The food is good, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. We always sit at the bar and the number one reason we continue to come back time after time is their great bartender, Sara. It's not an easy task to find a bartender that can pour a great drink, tell a funny story, listen to her customers, all while managing a fun bar and Sara does it all effortlessly. This was my first (and last) time at Tavern on Main. Upon arrival, the place seemed nice and looked good. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken sandwich and I ordered a soup and salad. There was nothing wrong with the soup but the description for the Hummus salad was far off. I was told I was going to get hummus, avocado and other greens. When I got my salad, there was no hummus, just a black bean paste. There was also no avocado, just tomatoes and lettuce. My boyfriend enjoyed his sandwich but less than 24 hours later, got food poising/salmonella. He had terrible abdominal pain and needed to call out of work the next day. Update for the owners comment: Hummus is made with chickpea and this tasted like just mashed beans, not hummus at all. Hit or miss. Ambiance 5/5. Food 4/5. Service 3/5. Place could only improve considering how badly the last pair of owners managed it. Great to see the space looking beautiful and being appreciated. Food was hit or miss the caesar wedge was our favorite it had a spicy ranch dressing with fried avocado bits and my friend loved her bratwurst. The mixed drinks were creative and delicious. The issue was my steak I ordered it "medium rare more rare" and it came out well down. Everyone at the table agreed it was chewy and inedible. The waitress realized I wasn't eaten my steak and asked if it was OK. When I pointed out to her that it had been way overcooked she asked if I wanted another but at that point everyone had finished their food and it didn't make sense so I politely declined. The bill came and we were still charged $27 for the dish. I mentioned it to a manager on the way out and he got extremely nervous and just clamored "OMG sorry. Sorry". My boyfriend ordered the breakfast casserole which tasted bizarre. It was very spicy and at the same time smothered with a creamy maple syrup sauce which made the tater tots mushy and unappetizing. The flavors and textures were totally unbalanced. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing but the poor service didn't help. We'll return but will sit at the bar and try different items. read more

We are vacationing in Narragansett and found this restaurant on Yelp. Our visit was on Sunday when half price sausage sandwiches are offered. The Crispy Crab Cakes app included 3 cakes sitting on top of black bean hummus drizzled with red pepper aoli. Nice combination of flavors, served piping hot. read more

So glad that this is here! Needed a local place with delicious food, good craft beer and superior service. Found all three at Tavern on Main. Our server was Molly and she was friendly, courteous, funny and super helpful! Food was delicious with good local (New England) fresh food. Sausage board was amazing and let's talk tater tots... I would sell my kidneys for them. Great selection of craft beer that goes beyond the local, normal selection. They do flights! I had the breakfast chimichanga and also the New Belgium Hemperor. Visited on a Thursday evening and had Margaret as our waitress. She was very helpful with cocktails, and the menu, We arrived before 6pm so there were 1/2 priced apps. We tried 4 of them - Lobster Roll Lettace wraps, Scotch Eggs, Crab Cakes and the Cheese board. They were all great. The Scotch Eggs being our favorites. I had the Smoked Salmon salad which very good. The cocktails were good. The wine list is differnent then what you usually see. The manager came over and explained many of the wines and let us taste a view before ordering. read more

If I could give zero stars I would do do. This is the first time in a very long time that I have walked out of a restaurant due to being ignored. This place has a major management issue. Our go-to restaurant in Wakefield is the Mews Tavern. The beer is great, the food is good and the atmosphere is vibrant. The problem is they are so popular that there is usually a long wait. Plus they don't take reservations. Thus my decision to try the Tavern on Main. I made an 8pm reservation to follow a nearby theater show on Sunday night. My wife and I arrived 1/2 hour early, which wasn't a problem as the place was dead. There was one couple outside and two couples inside. We were told by the bartender to sit anywhere, so we sat at an available booth and started watching. The place had a dead vibe. 3 waitresses were either cleaning silverware, bussing a table or chatting with the one customer at a booth. A couple of them looked at us, but nobody greeted us. After 10 minutes of being ignored we just left. We are in our 60's, dressed well, and I had said that we had a reservation; it wasn't as if we looked like vagrants. We went to the Mews, and I told my wife I didn't care how long we had to wait. They were busy but not full. We were seated immediately and were greeted by a server at our table within 15 seconds of being seated. This is the place to go in Wakefield. read more

My girlfriends and I were in Rhode Island for a weekend trip in the Narragansett area. Friday night we realized we had no plans for dinner and searched up some local places. We all agreed on Tavern on Main because their menu seemed to have a good variety. We were able to get a table within the hour. Food was really delicious! We shared the steamed mussels and the spinach bacon dip (highly recommend). I ordered the scallops with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes and I was really happy with it. Special shout out to our waiter, Peyton, who couldn't have been nicer! Great atmosphere and all around experience. Would definitely come back when I find myself in RI again. read more

Great new venue! Had the famous "Jennifer dances" cocktail, it was wonderfully refreshing. Tater tarts were fabulous. I wasn't expecting much in the way of an innovative menu or excellence in service, value for the money, or ambience. The previous restaurant in this location failed on all counts. But the reborn Tavern is a nice surprise and I'll certainly be back. They are still getting the kinks out and there doesn't seem to be enough physical space to house the wait staff you'll need to handle volumn, but we'll see. Bon appetite! read more

This is a wonderful, long-time option in Wakefield, RI. The historic location is home to an interesting building with many different dining areas. The lunch menu is extensive with a variety of sandwiches, salads, and heavier entrees. There is a large selection of beverages in the bar area. There are stairs from the back parking area, but there is a drop-off location in the front at street level for those who want to avoid stairsteps. It's a worthwhile lunch stop. Love the atmosphere and costumer service. It's one of those places that you can go to bar hop in Wakefield, have date night, or just a casual bite to eat. I notice the owner or manager (or both?) seems to always be present which is great. The bar is always full which shows me they staff great bartenders. The food is great. You have to try their sausage! My boyfriend swears their burger is just as good as the Shanty's - that place is hard to beat. I wish there was just a tiny bit more on their menu but I suppose it's better to offer less and do it very well than to offer more and have some mediocre items. read more

My girlfriend and I went here for a drink following dinner elsewhere on a Saturday night. It was just after 8pm and it was dead. 2 tables with people and 2 other people at the bar. We had to listen to a bartender b*tch and be catty with a young hostess/bar back talking about fellow employees. I watched 'clean' pitchers covered in soap be put away and the bar tender put her fingers inside the glass that my drink was poured into. We are tourists coming from NY and this place hit the spot!! We tried the Mac and cheese which was absolutely delicious and I had the chicken parmigiana. Service here was unbelievably slow. Restaurant was 1/2 full and it took 40 min to get our spinach dip appetizer and an hour and a half to get our entrees. We were told they were short staffed but there were at least 3 members of staff just walking around aimlessly not actually doing anything. Food was just not coming out of the kitchen. Every time the kitchen door would open, it would just be another staff member walking out with nothing in their hands. The food is not worth sitting around for 2 1/2 hours total for dry fish and chips. Won't be back. read more

It's a small pub like place. A few tables out on the sidewalk as you come in. Industrial decor. Friendly staff. AC was a bit cold especially with ceiling fans but asked if they could turn it down a bit and they obliged. Waiter was friendly and helpful and seemed to know the menu as we had diet restrictions. Our vegan in the group had a few selections to choose from which was great! Instead of the typical bread basket, we were presented with a small dish of pickled veggies which was a pleasant change. Apps were good..corn and bacon chowder was delicious! Tator tot app was a meal in itself (one of the dips has a delayed kick...wait for it!) Onto the meals: scallops were good although I prefer having a bit of glazing in them, fish and chips seasoned just right, steak cooked just right and impossible burger had all the right fixings. Drinks from the bar were also good with a nice variety of beers. "Mocktails" were also good. I will say the only downside to this menu was the desserts...wish they followed thru for the vegans ..because they didn't have anything for our vegan, we all bowed out of dessert and went elsewhere...hence the 4 stars instead of 5. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. **One more silly but unique touch to this restaurant? The dishes! We all had different dishes for everything put in front of us! So, my friend and I tried the new Italian food upstairs. There were not many other people but it was only 5:00pm on a Thursday. We ordered a pizza with cauliflower, arugula & balsamic drizzle and a small side salad. The food was delicious!! The waiter was super attentive.
