The happy hour menu is smaller than it used to be, but I can always find something to nibble on while enjoying a cocktail. On this visit, I had the Crustino, which is ricotta cheese, prosciutto, and fig on small crunchy, chewy baguette-like bread. The mix of savory, salty and sweet makes this a hit for me. We hadn't been here in years and came here today with a party of seven. They seated us at a big table in the covered patio area. Our waitress, Brittany was awesome. She gave her food and dessert suggestions which were helpful to us. Four of us ordered the Taverna Hash and all loved it. My wife ordered the orange vanilla french toast and said it was amazing; she loved that it wasn't too sweet. Finally a warm sunny day to have lunch outside at the Domain. So many choices but Italian food paired with cold beers seemed like a no brainer. Our server Dodd was great despite being super busy and took great care of us. The mussels a la diavola were just the right level of spice and dipping the bread in the sauce was heavenly. My eggplant parmigiana was thinly sliced and very lightly breaded so it didn't feel as heavy as it can be at other places. Would have this dish again... and again. The short rib bolognese gnocchi had so much meat. The carrots were so sweet and the meat so tender. Another great dish. Only complaint is that we ordered a second beer that they did not bring until after we were done with our meal. Other than that, excellent experience. read more

Went here as a group of 10 people with reservation. We were seated on time and the server was friendly. Whether you sit inside or outside the ambience is great. Appetizers (zucchini chips, bruschetta al pomodoro, meatballs), drinks (Italian old fashioned, Mandarin Mule), main course (ravioli, pizza, pasta) were all well plated and tasty. The main courses were smaller in portion for the price. Ravioli was lukewarm, and was more on the colder side. It had hardly one spoon of sauce and the server spilled half of it while serving. Visited Taverna for brunch as my first brunch in Austin! About a 30 minutes wait but staff was all very friendly! Nice bar and even have windows that open to allow patio type seating. The Taverna Hash might very well be the best hash I have ever had. Two eggs, brisket, peppers, onions, roasted potatoes, hollandaise. Seasoned to perfection and flavors went so well together. ROACHES! They're everywhere outside, flying, crawling, landing on everyone trying to eat. I witnessed many of them crawling under the doors to get into the restaurant. I'm from San Antonio. I always enjoy a visit to Taverna! The bruschetta is delicious- I love the way they grill the bread and the fresh ingredients. You can never go wrong with anything involving risotto, and always remember to ask about their daily specials! Taverna used to serve much better food. Seven people in our party ordered the Tonnarelli Cacio E Pepe (cheese wheel pasta) and six of them had to put a significant amount of salt on their pasta as the dish was extremely bland and tasteless. It was actually very funny to observe as everyone was fighting for the salt shaker. As for cleanliness, two of our menus were very dirty and looked like they had kids' boogers on them. The service was okay but none of us got any utensils when the appetizer arrived. We all agreed this Taverna has gone down in food quality. On the positive side, the interior decor improved as they got rid of the booths for more regular tables. For good Italian food, I recommend Reale's Italian Cafe just north of the Domain area about 10 minutes or North Italia at the Domain. I did enjoy my mushroom and truffle pizza so I give this place two stars. read more

Perfect pace to share a meal with friends and family. I've been here a few times and it's always great. It's a beautiful restaurant, great service, and the food is delicious. My friends and I came here on a Monday night when they have discounted bottles of wine to share. I highly recommend the lasagna and the pizza is great as well. It's been a hot minute since the girls and I decided to brunch, I chose Taverna bc 1. I hadn't been in forever and 2. I remember loving this place! Though we were all a little underwhelmed this time. What worked were the mimosas (strong!!), their fried calamari appetizer & the purse stand they brought out (a great detail btw). What didn't work? Our service unfortunately. Our server was very sweet but there were a lot of misunderstandings. And one of our friends plate came way later than the rest of ours. They did sincerely apologize which was nice of them. Our food outside of the calamari was decent, nothing to write home about. Me and my friend both got different salads with chicken but the chicken was on the dryer side. My friend who is GF was not a fan of her meal. However I did hear the chicken and waffles were scrumptious from my other friend. Overall the experience was okay. Was excited to try Taverna with my boyfriend on a Sunday. It was not busy but we waited for a host to show up for about 5-7 minutes with no hostess in sight. A few servers passed us and didn't smile or say anything. The hostess finally showed up and was not rude but was not welcoming. We sat inside and waited about 8-10 minutes but no one made eye contact or came to our table. No one was paying attention, 3 were chatting at the bar and one was on her phone by the kitchen. This place used to be IT when it came to Italian food, but the quality has gone WAY down while the prices have gone up. We were there last night and had the following: Caesar salad (which consisted of two whole romaine leaves while the rest of the salad was bagged/pre-chopped romaine); calamari (obviously frozen and then over-fried); tagliatelle with bolognese (good flavor but barely warm upon arrival at the table); the pasta special--ravioli with shrimp and lobster (both of the latter were cold and obviously previously frozen, plus the lobster tasted like green beans); and the chocolate lava cake for dessert (which included the saddest looking "scoop" of vanilla ice cream I've ever seen). The one saving grace was Jamie, our server, but even she couldn't save the food. And when is it appropriate for one server (female) to give another server (male) a shoulder massage in the middle of the restaurant, seated at one of the empty tables in the dining room?! The answer is NEVER. But I guess when your restaurant is mostly empty, management doesn't care. Spend your money elsewhere. There are better choices for this price point. Won't be back and honestly, won't be surprised when it eventually closes. read more

I've had quite a few of the entrees on the menu, and nothing I've tried has disappointed. The wait was an hour and 15 minutes when we arrived Saturday night, but they called us about 10 minutes after we put our name on the list. It is a good North Italian restaurant for Austin, but the lasagna had almost no texture, the risotto was cold and lacked seasoning, and the ravioli was a little too dry. Carpaccio di Manzo Very much enjoyed the carpaccio. There are many Italian restaurants that don't even have this on the menu but yay for Taverna. It was a hit. Risotto Ai Frutti Di Mare FAVORITE DISH. The risotto was nicely cooked. The rice was not too hard not too mushy. The broth was so flavorful. If you are not a big fan a seafood, I would opt for a different protein. The clams were the most "ocean-y tasting". Overall I will definitely come back to try the other risotto dishes. A5 Wagyu Special A5 Wagyu decently prepared. Nothing over the top. Very unattractive plating for a $45 dish. I would not recommend. It isn't worth the price not experience. Such a great location at the Domain. Came right at 3 pm so in mix of Sunday Brunch and dinner menu swap. Started with Brushetta. Tomatoes needed a tad bit of salt but the bread was phenomenal. Ordered a kale/rotisserie salad to share at the table along with a side of fruit. I think our server forgot to enter our main course as service was prompt until then. For main courses, we ordered short ribs, bolognese, and California pizza. The main course took a long time to arrive. Everything was great. Note: I come from NJ, land of the Eye-talians, and have super high cuisine standards. That said... For appetizers, we got the bruschetta and chefs focaccia. Neither were super impressive, unfortunately. The tomatoes in the bruschetta didn't taste fresh, there weren't enough tomatoes for the bread, and the bread did not have that nice crunch I expect for a bruschetta. The focaccia was slightly better, but kind of bland and felt like it was missing something. After we ate 3 days worth of carbs, it was time for more carbs. For entrees, my boyfriend ordered the Paglia & Fieno (a very fancy way of saying "pasta with a sh*t-ton of mushrooms with truffle"), which was recommended by the server and was FANTASTIC. A strong flavor but fabulous. I wish I ordered it too! I got the Fiocchi alla Gorgonzola which was also delicious. Savory, sweet, crunchy, and right up my alley. They had amazing service. Staff was very welcoming and got us the table we requested. We added Burrata pizza hoping it to be as authentic as I have had in other places. It came out to be soggy and watery. We complained about it and the staff was kind enough to replace it with a Margarita pizza. It was soggy as well but we didn't complain about it and ate most of it. I really wanted to like this place as the ambiance and location are unbeatable. The Domain is an incredible Austin location for shopping and food. Everything feels walkable and quaint, which made me really want to love this place. But I didn't. It was just okay. Starting with the positives: our server was excellent. He was extremely attentive, kind, and had some really solid recommendations. He was very patient with us reviewing the menu and giving suggestions for what might fit what we were craving. He was the best part of the evening. We started with the zucchini chips recommended by our server. The chips themselves were excellent, but I could've done without the truffle aioli. It was just very truffle forward and a little thick. But the chips were delectable. I could've eaten a whole bowl full of them! For dinner, I ordered the margherita pizza, my husband had the burrata pizza, and our friend ordered a seafood pasta. Her pasta looked good, but I didn't steal a taste, so I can't vouch for it either way. My pizza was okay. It was a little different than most margherita pizzas I've had. I was expecting fluffy, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, and sliced tomato, especially for the price. Instead, I got melted, hard mozzarella, and maybe three leaves of basil. All this to say, it wasn't inedible; I actually ended up eating a little more than half of it. It just wasn't what I expected and wasn't up to par for the price. The pasta dish was also very pricey at almost $30. I understand seafood is pricey, but I've never paid that much for a small portion of pasta. Overall, I'm not sure this was worth the price. The ambiance is great, we were able to get a reservation on a Saturday night, and service was incredible, but the food was disappointing.
